I enjoyed this very much but I wish the DLC wasn't as expensive and if there were way more maps and a Death Star map otherwise this would be a higher score.

Basically this is a game to completely avoid if you are a die hard Star Wars fan. If you are more of a casual shooter fan then there is some fun to be had here but be aware that it wears out it's welcome very fast. Not worth anywhere near the $60 price tag. This is a $30 game at best and EA is out of its mind to charge $50 for the Season pass.

My final thought is how much I wanted this to be the game that gives me an alternative to the washed up run of the mill COD series and gives me a new shooter to enjoy for months and months to come. It failed me miserably. Don't think I got 3 weeks out of it before I felt like "Is this it?"

Otherwise, this game is overpriced for its dearth of features. Unless you are a student or have enough free time to kill to master it and buy all of the equipment, like the 30% of reviewers who thinks this is a good game, you will find it extremely difficult and the gameplay repetitive. This way how we can pilot it is really unfair and this is the same with everything else like hearoes/vilains or with the Millenium Falcon!!! After a month of playing I have never been the one who pilot an AT-AT because always were other who are faster to find that. It's ok that the chances are the same for everyone but in this way it's not. EA just show much more better trailes what this game became. What a big hang-up... :(:(:(:(:(
Anyway this game can be 8/10 for me if they change this chance and if they will put 6-8 (3-4 in both sides) more heroes/villains in the next DLCs.

This is a tough game to review... It's so technically good that it hurts to score it so low. But I have to agree with the general consensus that SWBF is flawed, to say the least.

Let's start with the positive. The game looks AMAZING for one. The atmosphere feels right, just like star wars. The general feel of the game and the authenticity is spot on. It's almost worth it to buy it just to experience, by far, the most realistic virtual Star Wars world ever created - at least in terms of the atmosphere and graphics. The sound is also pretty spot on I have to say. And I have to give credit for how OPTIMIZED the game feels! Not only does the game look AMAZING, but it runs without a hitch! I am running it at completely maxed settings including AA at a resolution of 2560x1440 and it runs 99.9% of the time at a locked 60fps on my Radeon R9 390 - which is only a $300 single card solution. That is impressive.

The bad. There is no single player campaign.... Okay, so yeah it is Battlefront, it's msotly about the multiplayer. But Star Wars is a universe we all crave to dive into. Instead what we have here is what feels like a mix between Call of Duty and Battlefield in the Star Wars Universe. It;s unbalanced like crazy for one. I started playing after a lot of people already had a bunch of unlocks. I do perfectly fine when I am not getting one shot by bowcasters or whatever other weapons seem to deal WAY more damage than the first few blasters you unlock. I think 90% of the time I died was from the 1 or 2 enemy players who happens to have all the unlocks. It's pretty unfair when everyone on the map is flying around via a jet pack and you have a pistol and a grenade because you have to spend a dozen hours playing to unlock anything else useful. Even so, I managed a 1.06 K/D ratio after about 6 hours of gameplay despite being at an obvious disadvantage. That said, the gamepaly is just shallow after only that small amount of time. I feel like I'm playing an arcade game with bigger, beautiful maps. It's like a Vegas VR experience or something that's only meant for a short period of fun and to experience a realistic Star Wars atmosphere with battles going on above and walkers around you. There's just no depth to this game. If you start late, you'll get crushed by OP weapons. If you start early you'll get bored of the mechanics... And then there's the unlock system itself and cards and floating power ups on the battlefield. Ugh.

If Dice could team up with Bethesda, Square, or Bioware maybe? Maybe then they could develop a technically brilliant game, just like this one, but with a deep, interesting campaign and story and more interesting, balanced game mechanics. That's what this game should have been. A campaign that pulled us in and some innovative tie-in to multiplayer battles. Hell, even Titanfall was better than this and kept my interest longer. It's such a shame that possibly the best looking, best running game I can play on my PC is jsut boring and unbalanced after half a standard video game campaign worth of gameplay...

This would be effective except for the fact that at some point inside of 0.5 seconds of overheating you can quickly press X to instantly cool your weapon and begin firing again. Do not expect to ever be able to beat someone using this weapon unless you have several squad mates with you. The flight simulator has a similar problem. At some point during the match players can gain control of either the Millennium Falcon or Boba Fett's ship. These ships are near invincible. You can literally be blasting them for several minutes non-stop and they just will not die. Also they seem to be able to shoot missiles at you, even if you are directly behind them. Their dominance in game will determine what team wins the match regardless of other player's performance. Expand

One can argue that in today's gaming culture, the graphics of a particular game may not matter much. That gamers really care about content and reliability. Well, one thing we won't have to worry about in Star Wars Battlefront is the looks.

From the first battle, I was astounded at how well this game really does in the art department. Every battle field is gorgeous, with scenery that really tugs the eyes and says "look over here!" That being said, the rest of the game isn't so great. Where to start:

    1) The balance of this game is ridiculous. On some maps ( Jundaland ) the Rebels get a clear head start in conquering the first control point. When most of your side can reach it in 2 seconds, it's pretty lopsided. On others, the vehicles of the Empire will always turn the tide of a battle. Calling in multiple Tie Fighters and AT-ST, the Rebels soon find themselves overwhelmed.

    2) Weapon balance is incredibly outrageous. When I can be killed in two shots by a pistol wielding storm trooper from 200 yards away, we know we have a problem. The stats for the weapons (range, damage, cooling power, etc. ) are pretty much useless. I don't know how many times I have been sniped by a pistol, but apparently pistols are basically long range blasters in this game, so yay.

    3) I like the addition of the card system, giving you different hands and so, but it would make much more sense to have one primary weapon and a much less powerful and close range side arm. Instead, if you want a side arm, you have to buy the scout pistol card and take up on of your 3 cards spots. And..

    4) Those card spots are oh so important. Many of them remove the skill needed to shoot someone. A "homing shot?" Like, really? Not much skill in a homing missile that you can use every 10-15 seconds. Also, not that I am a Star Wars expert, but I'm pretty sure that most troops weren't shooting around the battle field in jump packs. Makes the Supremacy mode very annoying.

    5) The other game modes fail to inspire any real fun, and had me always going back to Supremacy and Walker Assault. The various power ups you can pick up help to give each battle a small difference in feel, but after being sliced by Vader, or sniped by Han Solo for the 1000th time, it becomes monotonousness. Almost an inevitability that I will die, again and again, which leads me to....

    6) WHY THE EVERY LIVING F**K WOULD YOU SPAWN ME THERE! Almost every match I am spawned in an incredibly stupid location. Just killed three rebels before you died and feeling good? Well here, how about you spawn in front of 8 rebels, see how you like that! I mean, I have spawned literally in front of the entire enemy army, in front of a blasting AT-ST, and oh RIGHT ON TOP OF A PROXIMITY MINE. My god, how stupid can these developers be?

I have put 25 hours into this game, which isn't a lot, but I feel it's enough to render a verdict on this game. I want to love it, I really want to love it, but I find myself struggling to even like it. Hopefully, the balancing issues come up and are fixed and in the future this game will get the credit it deserves.

    Maybe then..maybe.

The several game modes are almost all just slight variations of the same thing, with only Walker Assualt being anything close to entertaining. Even then though how many times can you do the same mission on the paltry selection of maps before it becomes a chore?

The leveling up system is shallow and only seems to reward time spent playing as opposed to actual skill. And many of the unlockable weapons or items are next to useless, such as the jet pack that allows you to travel all of about 10ft before running out.

As to the battles, you will find yourself subject to constant cheap deaths, such as being one hit killed by one of the way overpowered hero characters, blown up by almost unavoidable homing missles or unluckily spawning 5ft from a group of enemies.

It is hard to believe that the 10 year old Battlefront 2 has vastly superior gameplay to this mess.

Cheap, one hit kill weapons like the Pulse Cannon, Homing Shot, and Bowcaster are annoying, and the frustration is added onto when you are repeatedly killed by the (over powered) DL-44 blaster pistol that EVERYBODY uses, and the never ending grenade spam, since everyone can have an unlimited amount of grenades. The small amount of maps, weapons, and (quality) game modes will quickly bore you of the game, like it did to me and countless others.

There is no difference between a good and bad player, due to the cheap, easy to use weapons, the heroes are almost unstoppable, there is little to none squad and team play, since everyone tries to go Rambo. And no one cares about the useless emotes and diorrama mode.

"Star Wars: Battlefront", DICE's revival of Pandemic's online shooter, is similar to their own "Battlefield" franchise in terms of both structure and gameplay. The best thing I can say about it is how faithfully it re-creates the famed battles from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. The game's presentation captures both the look and feel of the classic movies with its stunning graphics, iconic sound effects and John Williams' legendary score. While "Battlefront" does not contain a campaign, it does include numerous maps and modes that can be enjoyed both online and off. However, compared to the "Battlefield" games, it is lacking in depth. There are numerous weapons, gadgets and abilities to unlock, but nowhere as much as you'd find in any other comparable shooter. However, if you're a fan of both "Battlefield" and "Star Wars", you'll certainly enjoy "Battlefront".

The game includes 14 maps, 10 multiplayer modes, 5 tutorial missions and two single player modes which can be played with a partner. But it must be said that not all are on equal footing when it comes to enjoyment. "Supremacy" and "Walker Assault" are 40 player matches and are the best modes the game has to offer. Aerial combat can be found in "Flight Squadron" and melee combat is exclusive to the two "Hero" modes which feature three heroes from the good side and bad. "Droid Run" and "Conquest" has you protecting an area of the map from the opposing team. And "Battles" is basically "Kill Confirmed" from "Call of Duty" (you must pick up icons left by dead adversaries to score). Lastly, "Survival" is a horde mode where you must survive 15 rounds of Imperial attacks. Additionally, the game includes mini-challenges that unlock artwork when completed and you can also purchase various skins as you earn currency.

DICE has made the announcement that free maps and modes will appear throughout the year, so even if you haven't bought the Season Pass, there are some add-ons to look forward to. In the end, "Star Wars: Battlefront" is a good addition to the "Star Wars" universe. It celebrates the original trilogy very much like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and is more enjoyable than the uneven "Force Unleashed" games. So if you're a fan of DICE, "Star Wars" and FPS game in general, then you'll certainly enjoy it. 7.8 out of 10

The visuals and sound (along with John Williams' score) really immerse you into the world of Star Wars. The X-Wing battle in the canyon on Tattooine is stunning, as well as the Hoth setting. I've seen it mentioned that the game sorely lacks prequel settings which is absolutely true. Yes, the films were terrible, but some of the visuals and worlds should be included here.

The game is not deep at all. There are training missions, some "vs." battles, and online play, but no real campaigns, and what there is is limited by a very small amount of character customization. Casual gamers like myself will enjoy it, but hard-core people will become bored quickly.

Overall, this is a fun foray into the Star Wars universe that should have been a little more broad. I'm curious what the expansion packs will add, but I don't think I'll be curious enough to buy them.

I thought the best part would be playing a hero.. Never been so wrong in my life.. The heroes animation just look strange and it only brings more type of game that completly sucks.

Despite the currently unfavorable reviews, this is truly not a terrible game. I think people should understand 2 things when buying this game, which in my opinion are the two big negatives that people are really upset about:

    1) This is not going to be the same experience you had with the previous battlefront games 10 years ago. Quit simply, this game currently does not play like the previous ones did. There is no classic 'conquest' mode to it-while 'supremacy' is similar, the way its set up causes the game to not flow like the old battlefront did at all. There is no strategy really in terms of attacking-no flanking, nothing like that. In supremacy (which seems to be the mode most people play) at any one time there is at most 2 bases in play-they will be bases that are right next to each other, so there is a constant 'front line' effect (where everybody is fighting in the same spot), which essentially rules out any real tactics that would be involved. I think most people who were very excited for this game to come out were people who previously played this game and wanted it to essentially be like the older games with larger maps, more maps, and better graphics. You won't get that, this will be an overall different FPS experience. The air combat seems to be pretty bad. I prefer to run around and shoot as opposed to flying an x-wing or whatever, however even I noticed that the flying is pretty bad. I would also say that currently the game modes that involve 'heroes' are not so fun. For Battlefront 2, the Mos Eisley hero fight was epic fun. It's not quite the same on this.

    2) EA, in classic style, is trying to get as much money out of this as they can. In doing so, the game that is currently on the market is incomplete. That is the main reason this game is getting bad reviews. In a year this game will be a 9/10. However, the game that is currently on the market only has maps on 4 planets; Hoth, Endor, Tatooine and Sullust (a world thats important in the expanded universe of star wars but never in the movies). There are only currently 6 heroes-Luke, Vader, Leia, Jango Fett, the Emporer and Han Solo. When you consider that the previous game (which came out 10 years ago) had more hero options-thats quite annoying. There seems to be a lack of game modes, but again, the lack of game modes, heroes, and maps will all be resolved when more expansions come out. However, you will end up paying anywhere from $50-$80 for these expansions, which is bad and we as a gaming community should not support these practices.

While I've ranted a bit about the negatives, it's time for some good things about this game. The graphics are stunning. Probably the best I've seen in a FPS ever. Also, the gameplay is incredibly smooth. I've experienced no lag, no servers crashing, nothing of the sort, even once. I personally find the controls intuitive and once you get the hang of the style of this game, I find myself generally being one of the top 3-4 players each match, having an absolute blast jumping around in my jet pack, using my ion shots to blow up turrets or piss of people who are in vehicles. The game can be great, mindless fun. While I've read some reviews that rip on the upgrades and customization-I think those are actually pretty good. You have a dozen guns to choose from, you can purchase like 100 different outfits your character (depending on level), and they added an option where you can essentially have a special ability (For me I shoot ion bullets) which adds another element to the game completely. The maps that are there are good, which gives me faith that newer ones that come out will be good as well. You can also run around and pick up upgrades, which adds another element. You never know if that grenade that landed next to you is just a thermal detonator or thermal imploder, or whether you are being locked by a homing shot or an infantry turret.

If you will only be satisfied with this new Battlefront if it plays like the previous ones, I would say do not purchase. It will not be with your time or disappointment that this is a different game. I would also say that if money is an issue for you at all that I would wait a year or so to purchase. All of the expansions will probably be on a single disc that will be only $60 by then. However, if you have an open mind (sounds kinda lame I know), and simply love fun, first person shooters I say this is a decent purchase. You absolutely will enjoy playing this game, the graphics are stunning, the gameplay is incredibly smooth, the soundtrack is great, you will feel like you are in the world of star wars. However, shame on EA (or maybe us) for obviously using the Battlefront franchise to take as much money from people as possible. I think if they waited a little bit and released a complete version of this game, the sheer volume of people purchasing it would have given them more profit than the current state of people purchasing it, and then paying for upgrades.

Looks amazing but is hollow. There is nothing to this game without the visuals. Game play is very VERY bad in terms of fun factor and when compared to the originals.

Remember in the days when a game was released, you got the full game, not HALF a game! well this is pretty much what SWBF3 is, a rushed, repetitive, game where you can only play in small sessions until you get bored. The customization in this game is a joke, only allow certain faces and facial features. The weapons system is fair, but not good since theirs a unfair system based on how hasRemember in the days when a game was released, you got the full game, not HALF a game! well this is pretty much what SWBF3 is, a rushed, repetitive, game where you can only play in small sessions until you get bored. The WORST part of this entire game is the lack of maps and game play(I find your lack of maps disturbing-Darth Vader), their was so much potential, instead they took out what made BATTLEFRONT unique, instead a BATTLEFIELD with a star wars texture pack with dlc. It's ok the graphics area some of the best I've seen how ever it's clearly lacking in the game play department I miss the instant play from battlefront 2 and splitscreen and the fact you have to spend 50$ for season pass on top of the 70$ you buy it

This game is shallow, yes, but there is so much fun to be had playing online, with more content to be added soon that will increase the fun. This game isn't worth full price, but at a discounted price I would tell you to pick it up

Why all the hate for this game? I mean I have fun with it and all but there are somethings I dislike about this game. One of these is the fact that the game is half finished and the only way to get all the content, is to get the dlc. The game is very dry but to me it is still fun.

Without campaign, many believe DICE should be remorseful; however, the multiplayer brings a New Hope to the ever-expanding franchise that is Star Wars.

The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
