I will keep this short and sweet. Yes the loot system is still wonky (the system has been fixed to some degree however), yes the story mode is as generic as it gets, and yes it still feels as arcadey as the last EA iteration.

The game is as faithful an adaption to the star wars legacy as any other and the visual aspects of the game are still top notch. Multiplayer wise, the game is a blast IMO. Now is this a title that is going to hook you? Probably not, however it is a serviceable title with FREE updates that are still going as well as a fun multiplayer component that you can breezily hop in and out of.

That's the real problem though for me, there is no hook here other than the faithfulness to the star wars universe. I had hoped the story mode would be engaging, but it is anything but that offering a bland adventure that finds you hopping from one shooting gallery to the next.

Overall, Battlefront 2 isn't the hit EA was surely hoping for however it is still a fun time with barely enough content to pass the time and enough fixes to not call it a complete and utter failure...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When the game was launched in 2017, it was an empty shell of blatant and obvious money grabs by EA and DICE to use the Star Wars name to get a quick buck. But, after nearly two years of updates and listening to its players, this game has become the best Star Wars game on the market at the moment. It provides a massive online multiplayer experience that has had its progression system completely redone to that it is not pay to win, but rather play to win. Also it has an offline campaign that’s is cool too so. Expand

I don't know why there's so much hating on this game. I'm no fan of EA, they ruin everything with their corporatism, but this is a fun game! Good graphics, solid mechanics, good voice acting. I give it a solid 7. Not finished it yet though, am playing as I write :)

To be honest, the game turned out to be not so bad, and such ratings from users on Metacritic are extremely unfair at the moment, but even calling this game ideal is not even a language.

The company in the game is not required at all and is only needed to get acquainted with the many abilities of the game + a couple of heroes + a couple of space fighters. The story itself is extremely secondary and boring. It was especially humiliating to play as Luke Skywalker, who just cut down bugs, it's ridiculous.

The arcade mode is downright dull, including the scenario, which is just for practice for multiplayer. The multiplayer is a little better, but looking at the general situation with class customization, one thing can be understood - the community lost, although it naively thought that it won. There are very few modes active online, there is an imbalance between the forces of Darkness and Light in favor of Darkness, there are few cards, and there is very little variety and tactics in battles. Microtransactions have not been removed from the game, there are two currencies, and cosmetics are not imported + there are no new updates and game support is at a minimum level.

This is not a loss for EA, it is a loss for the community. Although I played for a couple of weeks, I'm fine. For once. Glory to Ukraine!

Right now in 2021 we can say that it is the best Star Wars game. Its multiplayer is fun and it always makes us with my friends cheer as we were 10 year olds back in the days. I personally liked the story and the resurrection dlc too. Hectic and looks amazing, nothing brave but it is very enjoyable, which is the most important thing. I'm so glad it has a renaissance and that we are part of it.

At the moment I am playing coop mode, which I would suggest any new player to do the same. You can level up and learn the basics in this mode really well - it’s still multiplayer but only 4vs4 with the rest c- the rest of the teams are made up of AI bots so you can actually rack up kills and level up too. This game takes some learning but there areas many good you tube tip videos - definitely recommend watching some of those. Highly recommend this gorgeous looking star wars game - so much fun. Expand

I'm reviewing this in 2021 on the Series X.

Pros - Graphics and Star Wars look and feel is fantastic. I can't emphasize how good the intro sequences are when you are blasting rebels in corridors - it feels like you're exactly in the original trilogy. - The sounds of Star Wars is spot on. Voice acting is very good. - The campaign feels like it's very high quality - Smooth 60 fps

    - The sounds of Star Wars is spot on. Voice acting is very good.
    - The campaign feels like it's very high quality
    - Smooth 60 fps gameplay

    Cons:
    - Shooting is not very accessible on console. The reticle is basically a dot, which unless you are very good at the controller, you will end up missing a lot of shots by a hair, even with "aim assist turned on". Every shooter should use Halo controls with big reticles - I don't know why games like this or GTA5 use the smallest dots for as it's bad for people with poor vision as well.

    - Restarting a level after dying has a 5-second delay in single-player, which got really annoying in some hard sequences in the campaign. It keeps asking you to change your cards and weapon loadouts every **** time.

    - Strafing is extremely slow, even if you're not crouching. I have no idea how to dodge in this game at all. Not a clue.

    - You are often vastly outnumbered in the campaign. In a corridor, this is fine because you can funnel enemies in a choke point, but in a forest it kind of sucks because they just surround you and your AI teammates do nothing to cover you.

    - Levels are not built for exploration honestly. There's a lot of dead-ends that are only there for enemies to come out. This makes levels very linear, but you waste a lot of time checking out these alternative paths and they all lead to nothing but dead-ends. In the more open areas, exploring too far off the beaten path just threatens to kill you in 10 seconds. Wonderful EA. Just Wonderful.

I can't even comment on the microtransactions - I haven't even tried multiplayer - but the single-player campaign feels compromised by the multiplayer aspects of the game.

    The graphic are ok.
    The maps are quite small...
The battle points system sounds good but its only good for the above average players who manage to get enough points and use them properly. If you are bad you will never get one, and if you get you will die fast with if because... well, you are bad...
Also on the first pvp matches you will notice being killed by people with 3 top cards while you have we'll... zero. This system is a disgrace for online gaming, should be like Overwatch were all players can get all heroes and the only diference is the player's ability.
Couldn't pass the second map of the campaign (space fight) because i suck at piloting the ships with a controller to the point i barely kill one or two enemy ships till the time runs off. So i can't talk about the campaign.
Arcade mode is a very good idea, a game with divided screen 2019 is most welcome to play with a friend but there are a few maps and the maps are quite small...

Battlefront II is fan service and little else; much respect to the craft, the attention to detail and the wealth of content, but sadly it just isn't enough. It's starting to feel as if Star Wars simply isn't a franchise suitable for this type of sprawling, large-scale multiplayer experience. It doesn't have it in its bones, and if DICE can't find a way to make it work, we're fearful nobody can. [Issue#195, p.72]

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will go down as one of the biggest screw ups in video game history. EA and DICE had the easiest job in the world and completely ruined it with the absolutely ridiculous and downright unacceptable progression system for multiplayer. Combine that with the incredibly boring, lazy, and cliche story campaign and you easily have the biggest disappointment of 2017.
