It's realistic but to a fault. The game is just beyond boring. You're literally going to spend half your playtime riding around on a horse. The world looks nice, but when you're forced to admire it for 50 hours in order to get through the game, that's unacceptable. Combine that with the ridiculous online microtransactions, and this is one of the worst games I've ever played. Avoid!

Rockstar is very difficult to surprise the audience: the games of this company have a stable quality. And the quality is so high that every time you think unwittingly: they say, the next time the developers just somewhere so wrong. However, the company does not give up. Red Dead Redemption 2 was an exceptional Western, though not perfect.

I doubt there is any movie fan boy loving to see an actor repeatedly opening drawers thousands of times or walking 10 mins just to talk with somebody, but you have to do these stupid things on your own in this game! They either never stop moving when you wanna stop or they slow down when you wanna keep moving. The camp system is even more annoying. You gotta keep going back to your camp to get quests and to turn in supplies but you CAN'T FAST TRAVEL! FFS, I don't have time to spend 30 minutes running back and forth to do this stupid crap, just let me fast travel you crappy game! Your horse is never around when you need it, either. I spent 30 minutes trying to find my horse only to steal someone elses by accident, then I got a bounty and had to reload. Then later when I just finished a storyline quest that afterwards, even though there were NO WITNESSES I suddenly had a bounty. So, of course bounty hunters kept coming and my bounty kept getting higher & higher to the point where I had to just shut the damn game off to end this stupid charade where the asses just kept coming after me. It's annoying as hell when I am trying to do something but the game just keeps shoving **** in my face forcing me to do what it wants me to do instead of what I want to do.

Sit down and expect to immerse yourself in a world that's not a battle royale or team deathmatch (although I'm sure they're coming). The detail in this game is beyond impressive, and the landscape itself is absolutely breathtaking. I will agree it takes a bit to get going, but it's mostly just the intro tutorial, which I'd still prefer over most any other tutorial I've played through. The story is amazing as well. Arthur is a very compelling character, who I would put on a pedestal in the gaming world next to characters such as Master Chief and Lara Croft. I loved playing as him, more than I enjoyed playing as John in the first RDR. Overall, I had a blast playing through this game. I can't wait for online to release. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an exceptional example of modern video game design, but it is also far from the infallible masterpiece many claim it to be. Several nagging issues detract from what is otherwise a great game.

To start, I want to say that this game has a target audience. Rockstar has not tried to "cast the widest net" with RDR2. If you find much of your gaming time filled with fast-paced, hectic, reflex-based games like CoD, Battlefield, PUBG, Fortnite, Assassin's Creed, Fallout, Spider-Man, God of War, or Overwatch, then it is unlikely that you will find much enjoyment in RDR2. Likewise, if you think the game will be "GTA V, But Cowboys" then you are in for a quite disappointing revelation. The gameplay is slow, weighty, and methodical. It will take you a *minimum* of 10 minutes to cross from one side of the map to the other. There is no easily accessible fast-travel mechanic. If your preferred gameplay is "press A to attack, press B to block" simplicity and zero-gravity, weightless characters that walk faster than Usain Bolt sprints, you are better off spending your money elsewhere.

With that out of the way, I'll do my best to dig into what RDR2 is at its core. You can't merely categorize this game as a third-person shooter, an adventure, an RPG, or even simply an action game. It's not even necessarily a mix of those genres, but a unique beast. Personally, I consider the game to be a "Narrative Driven Sandbox" of sorts. The story is undoubtedly paramount and always present, but it isn't something that bars your path to content. While story progress does unlock new items and weapons, you can also find these same items in the world through side-quests and exploration. The majority of the map is entirely open for you to explore as soon as you finish the scripted intro sequence, minus a few areas (more on that later).

The gameplay itself is, for the most part, satisfying and enjoyable. Gunplay is heavy and punchy, with a focus on realism (Pull RT once to fire, Pull RT again to cock the hammer, repeat) that blends into the action fairly seamlessly. Arthur feels like he has some weight to him as he moves, like a human being walking across a room rather than a figure skater gliding on ice.

Visually, the game is stunning, even on my OG launch Xbox One. Every aspect from the wind blowing through the grass on the prairie to snow drifts being broken up as a horse passes through is well designed and executed. Facial animations are some of the best I've seen in recent years. And all of this graphical beauty has little effect on performance. Aside from a few cutscenes and more "urban" areas, my framerate held constant with only minor dips in the aforementioned circumstances.

Unfortunately, the game struggles in most other departments. For me, the pacing was the biggest issue. The game's opening is *agonizingly* slow paced. It feels like a chore to get through the first quarter of the game. From there, things pick up nicely, and the pace is almost on the verge of being "good" through the midgame. Unfortunately, as the game reaches its final few acts, the story's pace slows to a dragging crawl once again. By the last few missions, I found myself simply rushing through, asking myself "So, this is the last one right? It feels like the last one." only to be surprised (dismayed?) at the new yellow quest marker appearing on my map. The Epilogue was no better, equally slow and poorly paced. While the writing itself was quite good, it was irreparably hurt by the weak story direction and drag-on chapters.

The game's AI is also severely lackluster. While it is better than GTA V's to a degree, you will always have the upper hand in any conflict. Enemies rarely seek cover, rifle-wielding bandits/lawmen charge into close range instead of taking distance shots, and they will often shoot at your cover until their weapons run dry, giving you ample time to peek out and dispatch them at your leisure. Pedestrian AI is equally poor, mainly the AI responsible for wagons and horsemen. I can't count the times I've been thrown from my hose due to an NPC veering in front of me as I was about to pass by.

And lastly, the endgame is very disappointing as well. Without spoiling too much, after the story you are still permitted to roam the map and do side quests, with a few changes. I don't care for these changes, but that's just preference. The problem is that the previously inaccessible portion of the map is now "unlocked" to explore. Unfortunately, it's pretty much empty. There is quite literally nothing to do. Perhaps this will be fleshed out with Red Dead Online, but right now it's simply a waste of map and Hard Drive space.

And that's RDR2 for you. Despite these flaws, it is still worth a playthrough if it sounds like your cup of tea. A good game, and one I certainly recommend, but far from a perfect game and indeed no masterpiece. My rating would be 7.6/10 (rounded to 8 due to site limitations)

The controls are a major issue in this game as others have pointed out, and the game seems good at first, but quickly fades as you enter into the meat of the game. In the first two - five hours it felt extremely linear but still filled with exciting and immersive material that really draws you into the feel of a western. Even more so than the original. The menu system for grabbing guns and selecting them from your horse felt wonky and unintuitive. The brief explanation of what to do with skins and where items you drop in camp go could use a better explanation and maybe a better system for handling. At this point I felt the game didn't deserve a 98/97 rating...

After those first handful of hours the game really takes off. I got used to thinking about taking my guns from my horse. I got used to the weapon wheel and what I thought was clunky gun play turned out to be realistic firing mechanics (i.e. the repeater round loading). I experienced some great missions and random world encounters that were hilarious and really made me think if I wanted to be good or bad. I quickly realized that this game deserved every accolade it had been given by reviewers.

Strangely enough the best work is in the camp. Every one of the Van de linde gang feels great. They have their own backstory and history with Arthur Morgan and when you return to camp their interactions feel organic and new every single time. Sometimes I enjoy just sitting in camp and play texas hold'em listen to banter and the daily chores going on around me.

Hunting and fishing aren't just afterthoughts, on the contrary, they are WELL thought out. Especially hunting, the tracking mechanic is good and hunting prey feels almost too real. I won't spoil the feeling for anyone who hasn't experienced this yet.

Get this game, play this game, and enjoy the most immersive experience in gaming history.

From what I've experienced so far, Red Dead Redemption 2 offers the player an unprecedented amount of options in what to do and how to tackle the, both optional and integral parts of the game. Fortunately these options do not overwhelm the player, but are instead revealed progressively, allowing you to first master what is already there. After several hours spent with the game I was still constantly being surprised by a steady stream of new features and added complexity to pre-existing mechanics.

All this depth, however, wouldn't be worth 2 cents if it wasn't for the incredibly high degree of fine tuning and polishment that went into the game. The frame rate stays smooth and constant throughout the whole experience and, incredibly enough, so far I haven't encountered a single bug during my 14 hours of playing the game. Rockstar have certainly nailed the shooting mechanics, but there are also more discreet options for those who aren't completely certain that lead is the be-all end-all problem solver.

To summarize: Red Dead Redemption 2 is a must buy for anyone looking for a deep and fleshed out experience, that gradually unfolds during many hours of game time. It's not a game that you can rush through over the weekend (though, admittedly, I myself might in retrospect have been a bit too hasteful in order to experience as much as possible in a short time window). If you're willing to put in the time however, Red Dead Redemption 2 is guaranteed to offer you a complete and thrilling experience, brimming with possibilities for the player to discover. If I have one complaint regarding the game it's that it didn't come out sooner.

For the first time I've played a game, the world really feels alive. Things happen with or without your impact, and characters often have interesting things to say. Rockstar certainly captured the feel of the original Red Dead, while still being innovative and new. The pacing is slow, but the game is intended to be that way. This isn't GTA, you're expected not to treat it that way. If you do, expect a large number of bounty hunters after you at all times. I always enjoyed the music, but by far the most during gunfights. The tension is kept high, and combat exciting. As far as the story goes, I've been kept engaged and interested throughout. Even random unimportant side activities like playing poker with your gang feels real and interactive, with the other players commenting on the game as it goes on, or referring to previous ones. If I had to nitpick something, I would say that the health/stamina/deadeye system can be a bit overwhelmingly confusing at first, but it quickly begins to make sense.
All in all, I absolutely love this game, and anyone who has enjoyed a Rockstar title up to this point will not be disappointed.

The following day I played a bit more and just got bored of it. After 12 hours of gameplay I was certain I was done with this game and was I very dissapointed with it, I was telling people that it wasn't worth it and that it was boring. Well the following Monday I gave it another chance, I played a few hours and something just clicked. I realized that everything in this game is amazing (characters, story telling, setting), and the story just kept pulling me back in. Before I knew it I was almost done with the game and I was having a blast with it. I finally completed it and now I understand why all these critics are praising this game. You really have to devote your time to get into this game. It's not a game that you can pick up for 20 minutes at a time and enjoy it. I have never played a game with an amazing story like this. As much as I love this game it still has some downfalls. On my play through I encountered many bugs that ruined missions, and as some others have pointed out some missions are very linear and you cannot complete many missions how you want to. I would always try to run around the enemy to flank them, only to have my companions die or have the mission ended because I was too far from my companions or the area i was suppose to be in. The controls and the speed of the game do take some time to get use to. Before playing this game I completed The Legend of Zelda: BOTW for the second time, and have been playing a lot of BO4, so It was kind of hard to get into this game. At first it felt very slow and clunky but you get use to it. The positives of this game greatly outweigh the negatives, so do not worry too much about the negatives. This game is really something else and I am glad I gave it another chance. You really cannot go wrong by purchasing this game. Just remember it may take some time to get use to the pace of this game but it is well worth it. All in all this game is amazing!! Expand

And yes, the game has gorgeous views, but it just so shallow that the graphics can't make it better. Empty world, lack of exploring and feeling of the artificial world. Even GTA 5 feels more alive.

Second, the overall Rockstar's problem: you need only a few hours to experience almost everything in the game. It has no deep progression and after a few hours you will start thinking "Why am I doing the same things over and over?".

Third, realism doesn't matter. It's just made for nothing. You can starve and stop caring about all of your bars, and it will slightly affect your gameplay.

Fourth, the NPC behaviour is not as good as it was promoted. It's the same fake as it was with the "new revolutionary Skyrim system". Just a shame because it's not a big difference between the last GTA.

I can honestly say that the game has a fake promotion campaign altogether with media overhype. Yes, Rockstar is a big studio, but it shouldn't be the primary reason to give the game such high ratings

I do it, cause I don't see it as boring or time consuming. It just adds to the game. Don't play this game if you want to rush to the end of the story. That's really not what it was intended for. This game was built to give you hours of playtime, with a decent story as a guideline, but which wants you to go out and do things on your own other than just looking at the map and going from mission to mission. I can't remember all the things that have crossed my path while traveling on horse to a village or a mission. Strangers requesting my help, gangs trying to hold bridges,... After spending a decent amount of time in this game, you know you are going to be playing this game for a LOOOONG time. I mean, I'm 20+ hours in this game and still have only 1/3 of the map covered. To set the stage, I am not a fan of Rockstar Games. What I mean by this is that my impression of the game is not influenced unfairly positively because of my view of the company as a whole. They have made games that I enjoy (RDR1, GTAV, Bully) as well as games I did not enjoy so much (GTAIV, Rockstar Table Tennis.) With that being said, I'd like to jump into my review of RDR2.
The first presentation of the game is stunning, wasting no time in immersing you in a detailed setting of the year 1889. This world feels almost tangible with its level of detail in it's sky-box, weather, and the characters within. The game is not without graphical glitches, but nothing I found as game breaking. The story does well to explain Arthur Morgan's (your player character) and gang's current situation without feeling unnecessarily expository. Once you have had the opportunity to watch the opening cinematic and finally jump into controlling the game, the immersion is not broken. In controlling Arthur, you can feel his surroundings in the way he moves through them and interacts.

This, then, brings us to the controls of the game. The controls seem quite responsive though a bit sluggish and clunky at times. I had thought that this might be due the weather and environment of the prologue mission. However, even well after leaving this area, I occasionally would still experience this same issue. It is not overwhelming when it occurs but it can leave you frustrated as you choke an innocent bystander rather than mounting your horse right next to said bystander.

I'd like to use this as a chance to segue into the next major topic, the honor system and fine details of your player character. While Arthur has an established history, the game gives you ample choice in what kind of man "your" Arthur Morgan is. I can tell that a ton of TLC went into this character and his systems. You can be a man of high honor and upstanding morals or the dirtiest of outlaw scum. This will, of course, also determine the ending you receive upon the completion of the game. Even during the duration of the game, NPC's will treat you differently based on your honor or even recent events. Arthur also has a plethora of customization and stats to help make him your own. He can gain or lose weight, both of which have certain benefits and detriments. Visual customization such as hair and beard style add a visual touch further differentiating one player from another, though, you will have to grow your hair and beard out for certain styles. Hats and clothing can be bought and worn as well.

In terms of sound, musically, this game does well to sink you into the ambient feel of the "wild west." More of the music seems to be ambiance aiming to immerse you further into the game, but there are certainly some stand out, dramatic, tracks to be enjoyed. The ambient noise seems to match you surroundings from the noises of nature while out in the wilderness to the idle chat of NPCs while riding through town. The voice acting of the NPCs are great and the conversations can range from somber and serious, to outlandish and ridiculous. Your posse's voice actors are splendid. The conversation seldom feels forced and never feels out of place. The detail is exquisite. If you are speaking to a character as they walk away, Arthur will begin to raise his voice to ensure they can still hear. The same is true for characters walking closer. They will go from shouting to a normal volume for conversation. If you have an event interrupt your conversation with someone, after the interruption has passed, the character's will apologize for the disturbance and get the conversation back on track.

This game is beautiful and does well on improving the original RDR formulas. In many areas. The "dead eye" aiming system is back as well as fun features such as the lasso. Horse riding has been improved to offer a more versatile system. Horses are all different. Some are large and slow, others are fast and small. Some are balanced. Taking care of the horse also effects it's performance. There is an area that I do not believe to be so improved though, the weapon menus. When opening the menu, a wheel comes up and time slows (but does not stop). One space may have multiple items which can be navigated by pulling RT or LT. I often found myself having to cycle though multiple slots to find the one item I needed.

In summary, while this game is not perfect, it's darn close. I believe this game to be on par with other such masterpieces as GTAV and The Witcher 3. It has it's flaws but I think buyers will certainly be getting there money's worth as it is now for all edition's of this game. Even more so when the online beta hits later in November of 2018. If you are a fan of open worlds, good characters, great stories, and solid game play, this game should not escape your radar!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, so this game is just fantastic. I came in almost completely blind as I had barely seen any content within the game, along with the fact that I never played the first RDR. From what I had seen, however, I felt as if this would be a sort of "Western-style GTA." Once I got into it I realized that I was partly right, but there was so much more than just a different theme. The beginning wasn't too much of a bother as I am used to being patient with a game. On the other hand, I did enjoy being in the snow and navigating through the blizzard. I also liked the first train robbery a lot because, in GTA V, the trains were sort of just there, and I enjoy being able to do something with them now, especially with a good old-fashioned steam locomotive. I would talk more about the story, but I think I've said enough about that.

I think one of the next best things would be the map and the scenery. The map is great. There's so much space for exploring and riding around with your horse, and standing on a tall hill, viewing the vast, detailed landscape all around is breathtaking, even on an Xbox One S. I love seeing the huge lightning bolts striking the ground with the huge roar of the thunder, especially when using headphones with Dolby Atmos.

Overall, I think this is a great example of what a AAA title with years of work should look like. Even the overall ratings of this game show that it's worth the $60. I do agree with some users that they should make a PC-version as many people invest a good amount of money in a high-performance gaming computer (I even have an Alienware Aurora R7), but I think that they shouldn't rush it so the PC community can get the same great experience as the one on consoles. I'm extremely excited to see how Red Dead Online works out and how Rockstar will handle it with future updates and gameplay content. I can actually say that this turned out very well compared to other games stuck in development for around 8 years gaining a lot of hype near the release.

Definitely a 10, Great Job Rockstar!

But I want to talk about the story the narrative. The thing made me feel in love, but also broke my heart. You play Arthur Morgan, a 36 year old outlaw, member or the Van Der Linde gang. The story draws you in quickly with the emotions, the connections everyone has. You feel like they are a real family. Arthur, Dutch, Hosea, Sadie, Lenny, Hosea, Javier, Ms.Grimshaw, Karen, Pearson, Abigail, Jack, John, Swanson, and Micah. They all are a big part of the gang what one doesn't do another can. But I want to talk about Micah, the secret antagonist, from the start and to the end he is a jerk to Arthur. By the end you find out Micah is a rat and has been telling agent Milton everything. You also find out around chapter four or five that Author has tuberculous a disease that back then was most certainty a death sentence. So after hours upon hours you find out all you have been trying to do will be for nothing. Micah feeding Dutch lies driving him insane even more than he already is, You dying quickly and painfully, members of the gang dying, Late in the story Dutch leaves you to die. You manage to escape by Eagle Flies a character you meet saving you barley, but also losing his own life in the process. By the end John and Author have fixed their friendship, as it was rocky the whole game. But you are given a choice at one point to help John escape or go for the money. I helped John escape but after he gets away and you kill groups of Pinkertons that are after you Micah the rat, piece of garbage, filth, jumps on you from above and you get into a fist fight that ends with you being on the verge of death from being beat and the TB you were diagnosed with. You crawl towards one of Micah's guns that was thrown in the fight, but as you grab it Dutch shows and stops you. This is where you choices and how you played come in. If you played like an outlaw after some words, and pleading Dutch lets Micah shoot you in the head and kill you. The ending I got though was the honorable ending. Almost all the same happens except that Dutch ends up leaving and Micah does too because you are about to die anyway. You crawl with the last bit of energy you have and watch the sunrise as you begin to breath you last breaths and a sad song plays. Author passes away sadly. It broke my heart. A character I came to love like my own brother dies in front of me. I feel like I just lost a member of my family. Then the epilogue starts, The very long epilogue. You play as John a few years later trying to live a normal life. it sets up and lets you know how he got his ranch while tying up some lose ends left. By the end of it John marries Abigail, as built the ranch up with the help of Uncle, Sadie, and Charles (Another member of the gang I didn't list). But their was one last thing. Micah is still alive, you spend the very last mission with John, Charles, and Sadie going into the mountains to kill Micah and end everything. When you get there Charles gets shot, Sadie stabbed, and you as John the last one able to really keep going. You reach Micah, have a small shootout, but Sadie ends up stopping that but as you and Sadie both have guns pointed at Micah, Dutch comes out of the building, you have a small standoff where Dutch surprisingly shoots Micah in the stomach and you go into dead eye and get to shoot him as well, I personally put all 6 of my bullets into is head, one for Author, one of Mary, one for Lenny, one for Sean, one for Kirrean, and one of Hosea. With that their is a little more cutscene. Then you go home and the credits role then everything that has happened sets in and if you have any sort of emotion it feels good but hurts at the same time. As the credits role little scenes play letting you know were everyone who is still alive is, and also sets up the story for the first game. After putting well over 60 hours into this masterpiece of a game I want to thank Rockstar and everyone there for making it. I has quickly became my favorite game ever. 10 out of 10. Expand

Take it for what it is - I'm a huge fan of R* games - still play GTAV Online all the time (sorry if I blew your ridiculously expensive car up multiple times) but really, if you like westerns, if you like open world, this game is it. Beautiful imagery, sounds are great, acting is top notch and believable, controls operate responsively. RDR2 is utterly entertaining and satisfying for both white hat and black hat cowboys.

Is it perfect? Find me perfect and I'll debate with you why it's not. Perfect is in the eyes of the beholder. Nothing is perfect, but RDR2 is as close to it as you can get - and for what's not perfect, that's what patches and DLC are for. I find it excels over RDR1, truly... and the debate between RDR2 and GTA4 - well, if you can suspend the fact that you're comparing modern-day over the old west and pair it down to basic video game mechanics, well, yes, it excels there too. Is it better than GTAV - again, different genre, but given it's made for this generation of gaming systems, I truly believe R* delivered on all fronts. That said, I am looking forward to GTA6... just because... but I digress...

The weapons are satisfying to shoot. The anarchy and crimes are satisfying to commit. Yes, there is a lot of traveling on horseback, which I admit, I was concerned about before release, but now that I've played it, it works - plus all of the mayhem that occurs between points A and B are a hoot.

RDR2 will NOT make everyone happy - obviously - but given what I've said here, if you are into this sort of game, this game delivers.

In summary - if like don't like fish, you won't like a fish sandwich. If you don't like westerns, you won't like RDR2. But if you do - you'll love this as this is one hell of a whale dinner.

The game is a work of art. It compels you to slow down (like life in the old west) and take in all the details. Sure it has elements of a game - missions and such - but it really is more of a landscape to be savored. The game does not provide rapid fire doses of dopamine like COD or Fortnite, no superficial high here. Instead, pleasure is derived from immersing yourself in the world.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is possibly one of the best games of this generation. From the captivating story line and intriguing characters to endless extras such as random encounters, mini games etc. This game has so much to offer and looks incredibly stunning.

The game can be quite slow at some parts, but in a game that's all about story and character development, it doesn't hinder the experience in any way. From my time playing, the only thing that does get a little tedious and repetitive is the sheer amount of collectable strands, and the time you have to commit to complete said strands. Whilst the collectables are quite varied, it's still not exactly fun the longer you're doing it but that's the only negative thing I have to say, and that alone isn't worth dropping a point over.

Even though the game world is significantly smaller than Rockstar's latest release, GTA V, it doesn't feel like it because you're not driving around in 200mph hyper cars. However, this does mean that the world is incredibly detailed and you can find yourself just exploring for hours finding all kinds of interesting and strange things. This could be discovering houses containing interesting secrets, the skeletal remains of some creatures that lived long ago or simply just running into other NPC's out in the country with some of the hilarious random encounters. There are also, as with any Rockstar game, a ton of Easter Eggs for you to discover.

Overall, I'd absolutely recommend this game to anyone, even if you haven't played the first Red Dead Redemption. This 2nd instalment is a prequel after all, so I'd recommend you play the first game after this one. That is of course if you are interested in the story. It is a true masterpiece of this generation and with the introduction of Red Dead Online soon, it can only get better.

Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the most detailed, content filled, and beautiful games ever. I do have my issues with this game, mainly with the story, but it doesn't take away from this game at all, if anything it takes away from Red Dead 1 or R* at that.

I've beaten the game once already, and it's so good, I legitimately started a new play through 10 minutes afterwards, and I'm still coming across random events, strangers, side missions, and more, that I never saw in my first play through. The game play, gun play, horse riding, walking, looting, pretty much everything in this game is great, a little clunky at times, but amazing. It's worth playing if for nothing else than shooting people in the west.

My issue is the story, mainly how Red Dead 1 never mentions ANY of these IMPORTANT characters, Arthur is Dutch's right hand man and basically his son, Arthur is basically John's brother, but he is NEVER mentioned, even Sadie Adler, who plays a big part is never mentioned. Charles Smith who plays a huge part also, is never mentioned, I don't even think Hosea is mention, and he was like a brother to Dutch and a father to John and Arthur, but none of these important characters are mentioned at all. I don't think it takes away from this game RDR2, but it definitely takes away from either RDR1 or R* because if you're going to create as important of characters as these people, you need to find a way to have it make sense that the man that they saved and was raised with never mentions them at all, ever.

It's kinda why I disagree with prequels, you create all these important characters for the prequel, but then when you think about what it's a prequel of, and how these characters are not mentioned at all, it kinda pisses you off, and you see why prequels are a bad idea.

But all the same, this game is downright amazing, Arthur Morgan, Sadie Alder and Charles Smith are 3 of my favorite characters in gaming history, right there with John Marston and Geralt of Rivia, maybe even higher, Arthur at least. This game deserves a 10, no matter what. We have over, way over 100 hours of content in the base game, and we still have yet to play Red Dead Online, which will add hundreds of hours more of content, thousands for some people, including myself.

If any of these, wild west, amazing gun play, amazing horse riding, great characters, an amazing story, or watching a horses nuts shrink in the cold weather, pick up Red Dead Redemption 2 as soon as you can.

And yes, the $100 edition is totally worth it, you will not regret a damn thing.

Taking numerous features from it's predecessor, Red Dead Redemption, it not only includes things such as "dead-eye" and bounties - but improves on this exponentially, for example depending on the type of character you play, you'll either have a heroic dead-eye experience, or a far more bloody/gory one all depending on the choices you make in main missions and the plethora of side-quests and strangers. I found myself struggling to continue through the main story due to these side-quests which were plenty, as every corner I turned there was something going on.

Alright, so I honestly decided to make this account just to review this game. Let's try to make this as concise and critical as possible.

First thing's first, I'd like to back up my opinion on this game by stating three facts.

    A. I have completed the first Red Dead Redemption.
    B. I have completed this game, Red Dead Redemption 2, as well.
    C. I am not a Rockstar fanboy. In fact, I have now only finished three of their games. Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Grand Theft Auto V.

With that being said, onto the review.

This game is absolutely perfect for me as a player. Obviously there are gripes people have, but those gripes don't necessarily reflect as a bad thing for me when it comes to how I play the game.

Yes it is clunky, but I enjoy the weighty feel of my character moving and interacting with the world. You also get used to the controls pretty fast as well. As for the immersion and survival elements, I am entirely okay with them as I am big into survival games already.

The big thing with this game is that is has absolutely an absolutely superb story that nearly moved me to tears three separate times over the course of ten minutes. The characters are layered and actually evolve as the game continues, whilst also staying consistent to how they would act. This story has to be, without a doubt, the best video game story on the market right now.

The sound design is another big plus. The music system they programmed to create tracks on the fly is nothing less than impressive, and the general design and feel of the sounds you hear throughout the gameplay keeps you immersed throughout the entire experience.

Finally, the graphics are fantastic for three separate but equal reasons: character models, lighting, and facial animations. Everything about these three specific things are executed masterfully.

I personally think the definition of a perfect game is something that does exactly what it set out to do and this game passed that definition with flying colors. It is a must play.

While it has some notable but minor flaws, it's hard to argue that Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a masterpiece.
