I wanted to love this game but I've ended up kind of hating it.

It's an amazing premise but the exploration is not fun and it gets more and more tedious the further in you get.

I feel terrible giving this original concept that seems well executed a poor rating, but I really dread the thought of ever playing this game again.

Now i am going to be honest when I say the outer worlds is refreshing in that it’s a new game, but what were they going for here? The game is really ‘meh’ to be honest. I started to get bored after I left the first planet; just like how I felt after getting the ship on borderlands 3.

More suitable for teenagers and big children.
I was able to test it yesterday in the "Game Pass " of the One.
Very nice story with decent graphics. Only I seem to be too old for that. The spark doesn't jump over.

I really wanted to like this game, and I really tried. It's not for everyone. I would definitely love to see more games taking inspiration from the exploration aspects and the non combat nature of the game, but I would also like a story driven form of this game, as my natural curiosity wasn't aroused enough to keep playing, I personally prefer a story

8 hours. Didn't finish. It all seemed completely pointless. But it's a technically great game, it just doesn't seem to have a purpose worth striving for. Pleasant if repetitive music and a curious atmosphere. I just wish there was a point and a mystery I cared about.

A very interesting concept which offers an overall satisfying and unique gaming experience, with a few gameplay annoyances that bothered me.

A very interesting concept which offers an overall satisfying and unique gaming experience, with a few gameplay annoyances that bothered me.

You are thrust into the solar system as an explorer, with space exploration being the only objective of the game.

Within your journey, you unravel more and more of the mystery present throughout the worlds you discover, usually done through written accounts.

The lore and story are very rich and compelling and it is driven entirely through your own curiosity, piecing together the events past.

Knowledge is also what will almost always help you get past obstacles and understand the mechanics of some natural or artificial elements.

I would recommend everyone to at least try playing this once as it is such a unique and wonderful gaming experience.

All of that being said, the technical performance on the PS5 was very disappointing, the game not being able to keep a steady 60 fps. There were very frequent fps drops and lots of stuttering for me.

The game also feels like it's not respecting your time, I've found myself just waiting for certain world states to happen for me to progress to where I wanted to be, or dying in ways where it wasn't really my fault which all prompted a lot of backtracking, and more waiting, which was quite frustrating.

Requiring key items that you had no business of having once you've found your way into important areas through incredibly confusing mazes, would also require backtracking.

Missing very tiny time windows in order to solve some puzzles would also make it so you'd want to restart, and thus, wait and waste more time.

All of these issues and more will bother people in different ways, or not at all, so if you can get past them there is definitely a lot of good stuff to uncover if you like this type of game.

One of the best exploration games ever, thanks to a small but perfectly crafted setting. [Issue#179, p.85]

Outer Wilds is well worth checking out. It’s got an intriguing hook and even better execution, and it’s one of the more inventive games you’re likely to play this year.

Outer Wilds is simply a wonderful and brilliant space exploration adventure. Inside an hand-crafted solar system, the game is an ode to adventure and curiosity where you journey through space, trying to understand the stakes of a quantic situation.
