MXGP2 doesn't deserve to be the only motocross game of this generation. The game looks ugly, it's technically outdated and has lots of bugs. Don't buy this one.

Tries to address fans' wishes, but wobbles under the weight of its hollow generosity. [June 2016, p.86]

MXGP 2 is a great example of how to take promising ideas, and then squander them all with terrible execution. There’s a decent motocross game in here somewhere, but it’s buried by technical issues like a fallen rider under mud.

This game seems to be getting a lot of negative reviews. I'm only 2 nights in, but I'm starting to feel like they're unwarranted. Firstly,This game seems to be getting a lot of negative reviews. I'm only 2 nights in, but I'm starting to feel like they're unwarranted. Firstly, the learning curve on this game is steep, the controls are different from your run of the mill racing games and the techniques are as well. I was immensely frustrated for the first hour or so until I spent a solid half hour on the first career track just doing laps and getting the feel of the game. That being said, its still incredibly challenging; one slight mistake and you're off course or on the ground. I'm all for shutting off rewind features on other games, but I'll use it on this one. The gameplay seems competitive even though the AI isn't top notch.

Visually, the game in my opinion looks really nice. There aren't many (any?) other MX offerings on the Xbox One and too be honest, this one is very par with offerings in the past. Graphics are nice, animations are stiff, and sound is pretty terrible. I usually prefer racing third person, but this game is much easier first person.

My only complaints thus far are the sound quality (the bikes just don't sound good), the rough animations, and the occasionally touchy handling.

Other than that, this game is exactly what I was expecting when I bought it which is good. Its not Forza Horizon level of quality, but I've never played a motocross game that comes close. This seems to be about as good as we get in this genre.

If you're needing a MX fix, pick it up now, it will scratch your itch quite well. If you're kinda just wanting to try it out, but have some other games to play now, wait until its about half price. It will be a much better value at that point. If you're just casually interested in motocross, this one likely isn't worth your money.
