    As a strategy game, it offers enough depth and complexity to stand out from the crowd. As an RPG, it's simply burdened by too much complexity to reward the player. Sadly, thanks to a story that is difficult to appreciate and a heavy focus on run-of-the-mill missions, the gameplay becomes repetitive far too quickly as there are not enough interesting story missions to breathe life into the experience.

    Playing Mordheim is an exercise in tedium. It’s slow, dreary, ugly, frustrating and repetitive, with no sense of excitement and a distinct lack of polish. The amount of numbers and stats and rules the game has give the illusion of strategic depth, but this one simply belongs in the depths.

The few user reviews on xbl and reddits etc that i read convinced me to buy. That was 2 weeks ago i havent played anything since. This is awesome turnbase strat RPG Warhammer fantasy setting this is GOTY for me hands down. Its the kind of unique little game system much like XCOM in that you can choose how you upgrade your warband at end of each fight but also choose the difficulty session of the mission, so there are ways to milk the missions so that if you choose only deploy near their wagon missions your chances of survival are better than choosing say scattered. The arena battle style is always changing, theres objectives you push for as you get more daring than just winning toe to toe so as its 3D theirs line of site and ambushes on your team possible. Its as good as XCOM, and its combat systems some of the best turnbase ive played including Gladius which was on ogxbox got a 92/100 and was stellar.Mordheim is better in everyway.

    Look at these paid reviewers they have no idea, NONE...Developers dont get rewarded for making games like this when they should be more of it. Read the user reviews, take my word for, if you love the old dice, papers, pen, figurines and moving your party around the environment in turnbase combat, initiative, movement etc like D&D...then this is the BEST IN 37YRS gaming ive played     … Expand

    Really, really good stuff. I'm so glad this game got a turn based treatment as opposed to what was done with BFG on PC. The graphics areReally, really good stuff. I'm so glad this game got a turn based treatment as opposed to what was done with BFG on PC. The graphics are solid. Playing with controllers is a snap. Customizing your warband is a lot of fun (I've won my first few battles with my Skaven). And the battles are very deep in terms of the tactics you have to employee. Example:

    Running my Skaven band, I've had my warp guards up front with my Assassin Adept delaying his moves until the enemy is located. I have to play LIKE Skaven. Like inherent cowards dependent on overwhelming the enemy through numbers and cheap shots. The grunts pin the target in place, then my leader charges (advancing from his time honored position in the rear) into the opponent's flank to slice him with the rat man's poisoned blades....but not before my pesky little Verminkin has peppered that dude with shuriken. I've had to use the terrain to funnel the other side into situations where it's outnumbered, exposing itself to my dual claw-wielding hero, who jumps down from elevated positions to stab them in the back. And all of this....dodging, parrying, delaying (while considering the initiative sequence at the top of the screen), charging, ambushing, denying the enemy archers long lines of sight, climbing, who flees, who grabs the wyrdstone off the pavement....requires so much thought that it results in a huge sense of accomplishment when you score five kills without a single downed warrior. I see some gamers used to twitchy arcade games complaining about the difficulty. Mordheim is supposed to be hard....but it's far from overly difficult as long as you employ some strategy. If you simply rush forward and think you're going to win unsupported one-on-one contests you're out of your mind. And it goes against the entire philosophy behind the game. You're in a brutal, dark setting. You're directing a band of desperate scavengers. You need to think about the long term picture and do what's needed to keep everyone intact until they've developed the skills and scrounged up the equipment needed to be true a-- whuppers.

    I've already purchased the Witch Hunters DLC and I will happily gnab up anything these developers release in terms of content (they've stated we'll be caught up to the PC players.....Undead and Hired Swords by Christmas).

    If you've got any interest in a deep, demanding, turn based strategy game along the lines of X-Com, but set in a bleak, blood fantasy world, do yourself a favor and grab this now.

    Oh, and unlike Blood Bowl, you can exit a battle and come back to it later. So don't feel you're trapped on your sofa until the fight is over.    … Expand

It is based off a tabletop game of the same name, which I played when I was younger. It is a turn-based strategy RPG with brutal and realistic consequences for members of your Warband being taken out of action. Now I'm going to shoot down ICXM's review:

    It's only tedious if you lack the brains and/or patience to plan and strategize. BURN! Building your team and carrying out your plan based on your objective, your starting locations, your warbands strengths, and your opponents weaknesses is insanely fun! It is slow because it's a TURN BASED GAME! It's dreary because it's in a city destroyed by a natural disaster that is overrun with mutants, demons, and the undead. What did you want, sunshine and rainbows? The graphics aren't great, but that's not what makes the game good. It can be frustrating but again, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE! The game is hard. Every skirmish is a struggle to survive. Members of your warband WILL die while others will become injured to the point where they lose their usefulness. But the ones who survive become battle hardened a** kickers. The game has an immense amount of stats and rules, but this is because it is a video game version of a table top game.

    In a nutshell, this game is awesome if you are looking for a brutal turn-based fantasy RPG with great depth. Giving this game a bad grade would be like rating Guitar Hero badly because the graphics suck and there just isn't enough action.    … Expand

    Difficile en effet de faire pire dans le genre du tour par tour qui connaît certes ses vicissitudes ici et là mais à ce point, tout de même, c'est inacceptable... Commençons par les graphismes très médiocres, continuons avec l'interface à la fois laide et pas ergonomique pour un sou et terminons avec le (sale) caractère abscons de l'ensemble : voilà le tryptique de la nullité caractérisée !

    C'est bien entendu tiré d'un jeu de plateau aux règles nombreuses -on s'en doute- aussi nombreuses qu'inutilement compliquées... mais ça regarde les jeux de plateau et leurs joueurs après tout. Or l'adaptation en jeu vidéo exige précisément un besoin... d'adaptation d'un médium à l'autre ! sinon, on se retrouve avec un étron injouable.

    Et ici, on a tellement de "règles", de conditions, d'éléments divers et variés, de lois, de systèmes et sous-systèmes, de mécaniques bizarres et avariées, le tout allié à une difficulté hallucinée et une présentation dégueulasse et encombrée, qu'on est perdu en un rien de temps. Et surtout considérablement soûlé. Mordheim mord donc la poussière, direction la poubelle la plus proche.    … Expand
