While nothing to blow your socks off the main story was compelling enough to keep me interested. And the actual detective work off putting all the pieces together and solving a case was very interesting if not always engaging and is definitely something id like to see explored in a similar game or a sequel if such a thing could even happen now. Where the game lacks is in any sort of compelling side actives or good gunplay and an ending that left me disappointed. L.A. Noire is a very flawed game but if a big open world detective game interest you its defiantly worth a try. just be warned that what game play you do get you'll probably be sick of it towards the end. LA Noire is stylish and always compelling. The facial animation, quality writing, and noteworthy characters, make for a consistently engaging narrative experience. The world is well crafted. The gameplay is okay, but there is little variation (pretty sure, 5 times someone waited around a corner after i had chased them for 5 minutes, only to whack me in a fixed, awkward animation). Also, inspecting clues felt unnecessarily slow. There was a lot of textures popping in late. All of this displayed a level of quality that was surprisingly poor. However, due it being a unique experience with a solid narrative, i think its well worth playing. Expand

Before I get to my thoughts I do want to say that for the current price of $39.99 L.A. Noire is totally worth it and if you never got around to playing the original version then I double down on my previous statement. When Noire first came out it was coined for being revolutionary in terms of character movement and body language. From what I remember not a lot was said about how the game played. I think a lot of people (including myself) thought this was a kind of GTA spin off. It especially seemed that way from the screen shots back then. I say back then like it was a long time ago but it wasn't. I just think that between then and now the gaming industry has changed considerably, almost like a growth spurt. Quickly out dating games that were only made months prior. In my opinion pacing is L.A. Noire's biggest problem. Solving cases, and cop chasing sounds like a blast but the solving part can be quite a slog sometimes. Part of solving cases is interrogating suspects. This is where the "revolutionary" movement and body language came in. By looking at a suspects face you are supposed to determine whether they are lying or telling the truth. In the original I think the main 3 options were good cop, doubt, and accuse. They are now good cop, bad cop, and accuse. By looking at the suspects face after asking a question you need to play close attention to not only what the suspect says but body language and face movement after they say anything at all. This is where it falters a little bit I think. Unless i was sitting about a foot away from my T.V I had a really hard time knowing when a suspect was telling the truth or lying, and unless I had the right evidence I would sometimes end up kind of falling the interrogation prompting me to go back to a certain crime scene to search for more clues or evidence. Effectively making into quite a slog. To be quite honest the new version doesn't do a much better job in that aspect. The stories for the most part are really interesting, and it made me want to keep playing despite mistakes I had made. For the most part if it wasn't for that kind of thing happening quite often this game would have a much higher score from me. Normally I would never tell anyone to use a guide on your first play through but in this case I say go for it. It is still worth playing just for the stories inside each case. Expand

I haven't played another game with elements of such disparity in quality. The atmosphere is great, with nice colour touches and details everywhere. The characters look and sound authentic. But the rest of the game is not up to par. The most interesting parts involve searching for clues and trying to picture who's the culprit in your head. Then there are the interrogation sequences: a controversial mini game which is half 'Have I understood the person's eyes and motives?' and half 'what does the developer want me to do here?'. It's frequently punishing out of developer laziness, and it becomes frustrating.
But not so frustrating as the elements that come out of GTA. Look, they're using almost the same engine, so why not throw in LOTS of driving with bad controls and, some half-baked out of character murdering..eeehm... shooting, and a bunch of totally raw on-foot chase scenes? These elements are so bad that they destroy an otherwise interesting game.
It doesn't help that the Xbox One port is half-baked. It looks as if they changed a few settings and repackaged it at almost full price, without even bothering to lighting up the community servers (so 2 of the ways to use your experience in the game are ALWAYS disabled, making it even harder and more frustrating).
In the end, after the fourth consecutive woman murdered for totally silly reasons, I got tired of the game and left it half-way.

Expand

L.A. Noire is an interesting game; the individual cases are all really fun to play through. The overarching story could have been better toward the end but is ok. The overarching story could have been better toward the end but is ok. All of the individual characters are great and well voice acted. The gameplay is somewhat stiff and has some frustrating moments, these include the driving mechanics and gun play. One of the unique things about this game was the ability to play as a detective and use clues and facial expression to try and solve cases and determine suspects. The frustrating thing about this game is that all the clues and dialogue options don't always make sense to the current situation the player is in, or multiple clues link to the suspect but only one is right. This frustrating system does drag the game down a bit. Another problem is if you go to certain places before others, you will miss evidence due to this which is a horrible design. The open world is faithfully designed and looks cool, but it is vastly empty with just a bunch of hidden stuff for people to find like I SPY. Overall, this game has a lot of great ideas that seem not completely complete any of them. The ending of the story is very disappointing not because of how it ends but because there should have been more. After 100% completion I think it's still a fun game to playthrough and figure out what is going on, it just could be done better especially if another game like it is made today. Expand

Хорошая игра, интересный сюжет. Но геймплей и взаимодействие с предметами хотелось бы более интересным и расширенным.

Technically there are not many changes, but the important core has remained: exciting cases, interesting characters, movie narrative, great atmosphere of the 1940s. L.A. Noire is a game like a few others, and despite some mistakes in a game design, the fun is same as it was six years ago.

Though ponderous in places, there's nothing quite like this curious sandbox caper. [Jan 2018, p.90]

With brilliant voice and face acting, a plethora of interesting characters to amuse and massive amounts of detail, L.A. Noire is a game I enjoyed and will continue to enjoy.
