    It’ll be over in an evening, but despite a poor first impression I enjoyed the challenge Kid Tripp brings to the table. The responsive controls, smooth gameplay and muscle memory flow meant it was easy to get hooked; even after my hundredth death the one-more-go feeling was still there. Well worth a look if you’re after something short and snappy to get in to.

Run and jump your way through 20 levels of intense platforming madness in this tough-as-nails plat-former. At first glance, Kid Tripp appears to be your standard fare, Mario-styled plat-former. It get’s frustrating, it gets repetitive, and yet I kept plugging along, ending up really quite appreciating the clever level layouts and fast gameplay. There’s no story in Kid Tripp but after some digging I found a brief synopsis online. It’s really rewarding to finally get all the coins and cross the finish line, but sadly after doing that there’s little more incentive to revisit levels again. Kid Tripp has found himself crashed on a desert island and the local wildlife hasn’t taken too kindly to his arrival, using rocks and his jumping ability he’ll need to find his way off the island. Each level is clever in its design insofar that enemies and obstacles are placed in such a way to aid the fast-paced nature of the gameplay. The game also excels at encouraging effort and perseverance on the part of the player by offering up sections that look impossible on a first attempt, and asking the player to find the right strategy and timing to pass them. If you can overlook achievements and just play Kid Tripp for the fun of it, then you might find it a little more enjoyable. It’s repetitive, electronic and so irritating when you’ve tried to do the same level 100 times already. On a side note I’m yet to complete the game because I’ve died so many times I had to spend all my coins to buy some lives back. The levels are all fairly short, and even if the enemies provide a significant challenge thanks to the wonky hit detection, it’s rare that you reach a point where you can’t see the way forward. The challenge, of course, is actually doing it, and that’s where your tolerance for controls comes in. If you enjoy Auto-Runner games and enjoy them being difficult, Kid Tripp may be just what you're looking for.… Full Review »
