Why? Because it didn't live up to the hype or expectations and what we got was a half-baked campaign at best and a multiplayer where aiming feels like you're shooting at ghosts that aren’t there and connecting to servers outside your region results in many missed kills because hits wouldn't register.

Turns out 343 decided to remove the region restrictions, matching Aussies with Americans. And as someone living in Australia if you're connecting to a server in America you're not going to have a good time with a ping over 200ms.

The single player story sucked, it left you with a Halo 2 style ending and left many players thinking, wait *Spoilers* *Spoilers*
Cortana is the bad guy now? What? *Spoilers* *Spoilers*

Locke is just as strong as chief when the chief should have been beat down in less than 5 seconds. Hmm. The campaign felt linear and very repetitive too. You fight the same boss over 6 times! Amazing.

And why am I only playing as the Chief for 2 levels? Wow that sucks. At least it's a long campaign... Oh wait, I finished it in less than 6 hours. /sigh

The multiplayer levels feel very poorly designed where jumping off accidentally happens a lot, and spawning at the edge of the level facing the outside boundaries don't help. And don't get me started on the broken spawning. Just hope that you don't spawn in the same location more than twice or you're going to give the enemy team an easy win.

The aiming as I said is terrible, the removed all the auto aim from the previous halo games and implemented their own bullet magnetism. So if you aim near then you're going to hit them anyway regardless if you're reticule isn't actually on your target.

Warzone feels like Pay to Win, I've opened over 20 packs and yet to see any heavy drops like scorpions or wraiths. All I've got are Mongoose and Ghosts. Where if you decide do drop your hard earnt money you're more likely to get these heavy armored vehicles.

But one you use them they're gone forever so the cycle continues! I guess they need to feed their children some way right?

After Halo 5 all I can say is give up 343, you had your chance at Halo and it's time to pass the torch to a better developer

I'll close with this statement: 343 doesn't cater to pros or casuals or classic fans, so who is left? This is not Halo... this is the death of Halo.

They effectively took all of the bad elements of Halo 4 and made them worse. Less customization, barely any multiplayer modes, no BTB at launch, no split-screen COOP, stylized poor graphics, and the addition of micro transactions.

Halo 4 had its problems, but this is the first in the Halo franchise I regret buying. 343 is the worst thing to happen to Halo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not what the commercials said we had in store. There's no big fight between the 2 Spartans and it focuses on Locke who no one cares about. The campaign is shorter than destiny, a lot of elements and names for things seems copied from destiny and it's just not fun. It's 4 in better frames but not graphics. I think the PVP was mostly better and had less issues but for long time fans who like the story they will be very disappointed. The end itself is a mask in the face and for the amount well I'm very upset I dropped so much money on it... I wouldn't even buy this for 30 bucks if I was you. 343 showed promise with 4 but lost it completely with 5. I think Microsoft messed up a lot and missed out on any chance at "goty", I know that's hard with exclusives but in the past it anyone had a chance it would've been halo. I honestly see Microsoft giving up on console gaming in the next 3-5 years. They're not doing well and their biggest exclusive is ruined. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A truly disappointing game fashioned by 343 Industries who have officially sold out and lost their connection to their player base and their grasp of the Halo mythos and what made it so successful. Case in point: No split screen co-op, the brazen implementation of micro-transactions, and most of all a convoluted train wreck of a plot that tarnishes the unique story telling of the previous entries.

For all its criticisms, I enjoyed Halo 4 and held a great deal of faith in 343 in crafting the next installment of the Halo saga. While the multiplayer is commendable, the writing and mechanics of the game-play are not. Squad based combat is underdeveloped, the AI is incompetent and the campaign can only truly be enjoyed cooperatively online. This is a hindrance to many fans who are drawn to Halo's storytelling instead of its multiplayer. I also can't help but feel as if this is some ploy in order to sell more Xbox Live gold memberships.

The game borrows too much from the side material, and meekly introduces so much in its short campaign that it accomplishes very little. The campaign in its entirety feels like it was just setup for Halo 6.

Look at everything 343 discarded for "higher frame rates", because the graphics certainly don't reach 1080p. Forge, split screen co-op, a satisfying campaign, popular MP game types from previous halo entries. And in return the only worthwhile addition we get is Warzone. Oh, and they put guns on the mongoose.

Locke is a bland protagonist, and instead of Master Chief coming to terms with his humanity as we were led to believe at the end of Halo 4, nothing is explored, he just keeps on being the archetypical silent hero. As for that meaningful death, you know, Cortana's, well you can forget that too because an hour into the game we find out she's alive. No build up, no mystery or anything leading up to this revelation. And apparently everyone else knew this before Chief did. Every other spartan besides Buck has no personality or charm. Cortana and Halsey suddenly have these radical changes in character. Cortana wants to be the tyrannical overlord of the universe and Halsey finally expresses concern for her "children" soldiers. Its not like they've been embroiled in decades of perilous warfare in space all this time. And where's the Didact? The Librarian? The former died in the comics and the latter is on vacation.

    Final Thoughts:

Jun should've been on fire team Osiris.

Any single member of Blue Team could've probably wiped out fire team Osiris by themselves.

No climactic battle between Chief and Locke like in the trailers.

Cliffhanger ending to a deeply mediocre story.

    Why isn't dual wielding back?

    Why is Cortana wearing clothes?

Hey, what's the domain and the mantle of responsibility? I shouldn't have to read the books to know what's going on in the story. Guardians should've been able to stand on its own.

Don't allow yourself to be entranced by the pretty visuals and production quality. This entire game is style over substance. 343 was either too ambitious, or simply became to preoccupied with profits to make an enjoyable Halo title. I dare say the story has now become unsalvagable. In Halo 6 bring back split screen, the flood, the brute chieftains who charge you with gravity hammers, get creative and find ways to develop all of these characters, reintroduce dual wielding, maybe reunite the Chief with the Arbiter (long shot?), and get rid of the filthy micro-transactions and then I might consider checking it out.

To everyone showering the game with praise and generous, undeserved scores you are pretty much telling 343 that its okay to churn out mediocre content. Objectively, this game is bad in many aspects. And seriously, if you collect all the skulls and mission intel you get ...nothing. Remember in Halo 3 when you got the vaunted Hayabusa armor for finding all the skulls and you could tell how good a player was by how cool looking and rare their armor was? When gaming was more of a meritocracy where skill was more important than deep pockets. Yeah, I miss those days too. Por que 343? Por Que?

Oh, and remember that OP suit of power armor from Halo Legends? Do something with that.

For a good squad based shooter with a more compelling story look to the retro title Star Wars: Republic Commando. Take notes 343.

Give me a break!!! Then respawn, take five steps and die from some Battle Rifle shot from across the map. This is pathetic and I don't know how anybody could consider this enjoyable. Maybe I've played too much COD but at least you get a MUCH more balanced set of scoring overall with players. And you can even just jump into a game and probably get 8-10 kills starting off. At least with that you feel like you've achieved something there and it keeps you captivated. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After getting past the initial excitement of having the first new Halo title on Xbox One, I can now write an objective review of Halo 5 Guardians.

    Let's start with the good:

-343 clearly spent a lot of time working on H5's Mulitplayer mechanics/player physics. It feels and plays wonderfully.
-Warzone is an interesting new game mode that may make Halo 5 have a slightly higher replayability factor.

That just about covers the positive attributes of Halo 5. Now let's get into the negatives.

-This is by far the worst and most disappointing campaign in this history of the franchise. Not only does 343i take a radical new approach to how the campaign is played by introducing fireteams, the story itself is boring and each mission feels repetitive and linear. The player never has a solid understanding as to what's going on in the story and the characters are uninteresting, dare to say, unlikable.
-you would think if 343i decided to take such a dramatic step in the campaign, the least they would do is make sure the AI for each fireteam works and gels well into what the player is trying to accomplish in each mission, but they don't. The AI is troublesome and subtracts far more than they add to the gameplay experience by dying, taking you away from the objective by having to revive them or should the player go down, they seldomly succeed in reviving you. Not to mention, they are not autonomous like a highly trained super solider should be, they require constant orders to be effective when playing on heroic or legendary thereby taking time away from the players ability to focus on completing the mission.
-the level design is flat out horrible. The doors a player can "Spartan charge" through are not what was portraid in Halo 5's marketing campaign, are misplaced and feel forced into each location. 343i's claim of the open world experience was clearly not implemented properly.
-the new characters are dull and the re-imagined cortana is not nearly as attractive as she was in Halo 4.

Bottom line, 343i should be embarassed at what they produced in Halo 5 and Phil Spencer should take a long hard look at what changes need to be made to ensure Halo has a place in the future of the gaming industry.

This game fails on many levels like no split screen multiplayer( A key feature in the Halo franchise), the lack of story and a repetitive game play(You fight the warden like 6 times and only 4 missions with Master chief and 3 with questioning levels), game-play similar to COD or other stereotypical shooters nowadays. The Graphics in the campaign and the developer made maps are gorgeous, a true positive in this mess. Another positive would be the covenant in the campaign, they were surprisingly fun to fight. I don't mind the visual changes on the Covenant, as long as they act the way they've always acted nobody would have a problem. Well that's pretty much all of the positive i can think of, so now onto the negatives, oh boy.

First of all, playing the campaign on Legendary is ridiculous, not for the difficulty, but the AI on your side. Countless times i watch as the AI stand there still as a statue while my timer slides to 0, this was probably the most infuriating Halo campaign i have ever played. Don't get me started on the Warden Eternal, the fact that you have to fight him 7 times easily knocks this game down 2 points. The Prometheans are not fun to fight in my opinion, they're just simply annoying and unsatisfying to kill. The campaign was not that bad until the first Warden Eternal, after this point it is a chore to do the rest of the missions.

Onto the multiplayer, a few seconds into the game i was stumbled by the fact that i can't choose my classes, why? After playing a few matches i switched onto BTB, and holy mother of god, i was disappointed beyond belief, the maps were horrid. They weren't fun, they looked terrible graphically, the maps felt like tech demos. So many players to my belief just want to be able to switch to the DMR and lay waste to the enemy team, but to their disappointment upon playing matches, they can't use them!
(unless you find one set in the maps)

Another huge thing that ticks me right off is the fact that they removed the gear unlock system and replaced it with a random crate system, almost like every new shooter now. When you see another players completely decked out in cool armor, they just simply were lucky, and the players know that. In past Halo's when a player saw a armor combo that they liked, they had the motivation to get it because the player knew if they worked hard to get the items they were guaranteed to get them. In Halo 5 you just hope luck is in you favor to get the cool armor, the motivation is slowed to a stop when you level up earning crates that get you the armor you didn't want.

Now onto split screen, oh wait, the game does not have split screen, remember, this is Halo we're talking about.

Moving on to forge, they truly made forge incredibly complicated. There should be options to set if you want a thousand different building parts or just wanted simple prefabs like Halo Reach. As a fan of forge i love the many additional features that were added, being able to add scripts, better snapping locks, etc. But i cannot wrap my head around why the walls/roofs/floors look so damn bad, i don't want my maps to look like tech demos made of Lego.

Well that is it, i felt like dumping a huge load somewhere on the internet to let out my disappointment, i may be wrong a few things here, i am just going on what i know.

The single player campaign, which typically gives Halo an edge over the competition, has fallen extremely short of the mark. It is poorly written to a degree that would shame a lazy, entitled sixth-year business major taking a last-minute creative writing course to fulfil his/her last humanities credit. Its reliance on lore is nice for some, but could have been a bonus / enhancement instead of a crutch. The AI is so bad, aside from being a lifeline in Legendary difficulty, that at this point the 4-man squad characters are there simply to be a drain, a clutter, and a cliché. Finally, because of the lack of quality creative design, the antagonist and setup for Halo 6 defiles what could have been a poetic end to a beloved character and writes the next team of creators into a corner from which they will be hardpressed to expressively work their way out of.

Good luck fixing this dumpster fire (more like a landfill fire) - you're going to need it, 343.

It just seems like they're just trying to milk the licence as much as they can now without thinking about the fan base. if they actually made a great game people wouldn't mind the micro transactions as much. if you're going to make a half made game and make the focus of the game its multiplayer mode even tho the franchise is known for its amazing story and lore not to mention its amazing gameplay. You're not benefiting your own company or the fan base surrounding it. Take your time even if you need to keep pushing the release dates forward, do not bring out a game that isnt ready, if you think this game was finished and this is what they had or have in mind for future halo titles.

Like Halo 4 343 continued their assault on the past art style and seek'd to change the look of everything from the past halo games despite clear fan displeasure for their changes.

Gameplay: 343 has clearly looked at titan fall and thought lets give the player all those abilites because that's fun in that game, but it breaks yet further the balance and flow of combat in the both the single and multiplayer game mode.

Forge was added long after launch and can only be used if you have Xbox live gold because apparently its unacceptable to save your maps on the console and they must be on the cloud.

Multiplayer warzone in fun but pay to win has been introduced to the game and 343 basically told fans the shut up they know what is best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halo 5 Gaurdians has to be one of the poorest entries in the series and that's coming from a fan of the franchise.

The campaign is far to short and doesn't deliver on the promises brought by the promotional material in which it was made out as if Locke and Master Cheif were going to have some epic battle. The revival mechanic which is ripped directly from gears of war worsens the gameplay and is poorly executed, couple this with special attacks that the player can do and it makes the story mode far too easy, also the plot is just a complete mess what with cortona being brought back without a given reason as to why.

The only reason as to why I haven't given the game a lower rating is because of the multiplayer which is okay though not nearly as good as what we were given in previous installments.

The AI is pretty stupid, I never felt like I was about to die in a fight, on top of that, you get a get-out-of-jail-free card, because your teammates revive you after you are knocked down, instead of accepting that you made a mistake. The game starts you off in an endgame-like battlefield, rather than slowly showing you the enemies like previous games. I never see any small group of enemies, it's always a huge army. Map design is meh, it has some open areas but it lacks detail, and has a ton of invisible barriers. The only good thing to me would be the weapons, since they are all very well balanced, in previous games I kept using precision weapons because close encounters was almost never a good idea. But here I feel safe using a shotgun or smg, but that would really be the only good thing about the campaign to me.

The multiplayer is mediocre. It focuses too much on competitive, and at launch it was bare bones. The lack of split-screen is unacceptable and was a terrible decision. Warzone has loot boxes and is pay-to-win, which absolutely sucks. At least the forge is pretty good, since it doesn't limit creativity unlike previous games.

BUT; 343i announced the omission of various modes of play as the compromises they had to make in order to make the game bigger and maintain a high frame rate. Well, the frame rate is high; I'll give it that. Graphics are not significantly better than the last gen. The campaign is weak with convoluted, unresolving story elements. Narrow paths winding to a boss battle - over and over again. AI is inconsistent. The best features of the game are online MP, and for someone who doesn't play that alone very often, it's not enough of a plus to justify the steps backward the developers have taken. With no local multiplayer, 80 or 90% of the game's long term value is gone for those who like to play that way. This is not progress. Expand

I did not find that the story line felt hopeless or as if humanity were on the edge of annihilation like previous titles. This was a disappointment to me because I felt the hopelessness and the will to fight to the end nomatter what the cost gave halo a unique twist on the series. I was disappointed with how blue teams relationships and story line was handled because it felt very lackluster if not non-existent. Halo, if you ever read this, know that I loved you.

I loved Frank O'Connor and his work at Official Xbox Magazine while you were still a baby. He was so funny. He was larger than life and a really cool dude. The best day of the month was the day a magazine arrived on the doorstep of our home in the woods of Alabama. Even a quarter page snippet about what was coming in Halo 2 would have me excited for weeks. Each new gun they announced had me dreaming. I cut out screenshots of Elites and Master Chief and taped them inside my high school locker. I didn't care that they had been super enlarged beyond their native resolution so they could cover a magazine page, and now they looked all pixely. I didn't even know what resolution was back then.

I loved your forefather, Bungie, and his beautiful works of art. I still remember the day that I played Halo for the very first time. I went over to my Aunt's house, and my cousin showed me his new Xbox. He started a new Halo co-op campaign, and we played for hours. Halo was the sole reason I ended my near 10 year gaming relationship with Nintendo and bought an Xbox instead of a Gamecube. We started a weekly LAN party at my house, and we played Halo splitscreen multiplayer every Thursday night. I still remember Tower of Power on Ascension. We had custom names for all our custom game modes. We made SWAT before SWAT was a thing. We called it Realistic. My dad loved the Scorpion tanks on Blood Gulch. He couldn't run and look around as fast as my brother and I, but if he got in a tank, he was happy. Mom would even play sometimes too. Her name was "EvilMomlady", lovingly given in honor of Calvin and Hobbes' Mom.

Back when I was a cool kid creating all my usernames on the Internets, I chose usernames that declared my love and dedication to halo. Its kinda embarrassing now, and I've tried to change most of them to be more "professional". Earlier this year, a software client wanted to use Skype for a group meeting. When we had setup the chat room, apparently my old Skype handle came through instead of my current Microsoft account name, and the client asked, who is "dude4halo"? I had to sheepishly own that one.

I bought every single Halo soundtrack that Marty O'Donnell made. They were incredible. They showed me how awesome orchestral and classical music can be. Another cousin and I would listen to them every time we rode in his car. He built a subwoofer in his trunk, and when we listened to Covenant Dance we almost peed our pants. The music was peaceful and beautiful, stirring and exciting.

I read every Halo book for a long time. They were my favorite science fiction for years. Eric Nylund's storytelling was amazing.

Starting with Halo 2, we began a tradition of picking up each new Halo game at midnight as soon as it was released. Our goal was to get as many people together as we could to huddle around and play the co-op on Legendary. We tried to beat the game before sunrise. We've continued the tradition to this day.
But now, I'm afraid that this good thing must come to an end. It appears that so many things are changing. The split-screen, the music, the main character, the big team battles loaded with vehicles, the forge... So many of the things I loved about Halo are now just... dust and echoes. There is certainly a chance for a reclaimer, but now, I feel that I must look elsewhere. Farewell Halo. I hope we meet again someday. Maybe we can relive the glorious times of our past.

Despite lobbying fanboys trying to resurrect a game that failed on too many levels, the overall experience of Halo wasn't there in Halo 5.

I'll try and be as thorough as I can when reviewing it, and will list 10 points that correlate with the 0 to 10 scoring systems on Metacritic. So here goes!

    1 - No split screen.

Sure, that doesn't really affect me too much anymore, but think back to when you were a kid. Going over to a friend's house or having them come over to yours and sitting back and playing some Halo together. Hell, some friends can't afford an Xbox so all the better they get to experience ALONGSIDE of you, which is no longer possible.

Well, guess you can always pack up your TV, Xbox One, controllers, and all necessary cables, head over to a friends, hook it up and play. Yay. -1

2 - The game is beautiful.

Mine you, it's not ground breaking or anything, but it's a definite improvement visually over it's predecessors. Despite graphics not making a game, there's definitely something to be said when reviewing it. +1

    3 - Microtransactions.

While it's not a huge thing in Halo 5, and things purchased with money can be obtained simply by playing as well, there's something to be said for providing an "easy route" for those who have money to burn vs those that don't. Gold Req packs do provide an advantage to players, and being able to purchase them with real money is doing what everyone hates... providing an advantage for cash players. -1

    4 - No map voting.

It doesn't matter whether you like playing Blood Gulch for the 5th time in a row or not, it's never a good idea to remove features. This goes hand-in-hand with the removal of splitscreen. Allowing playing to vote for maps was a way of ensuring that players aren't being stuck in less-than-desirable maps/gamemodes. With the added "You're banned for... (insert ludicrous reason for actually banning someone here)" players are locked into playing maps they do not enjoy, even thought nearly the entire lobby would rather be playing something else. -1

    5 - The Ban Hammer.

Have you ever been playing a game and decided "Well, I'm losing and there is no coming back from this. I'm no longer having fun. I'm going to play a different game mode"? Well, now you can do that and receive an automatic ban lasting for increasing increments of time depending on the frequency of quits. Sure, it's affects everyone when a teammate quits, but locking players into the "play or die" mentality is absolutely moronic. -1

    6 - Vehicles are useless.

This may just be a case of bad map rotation or a severe lack of large maps in the early game, but let's face it. Vehicles are almost useless in the current map rotations on MP. For a game that prides itself on vehicle variety, it certainly says something for not being able to use them effectively. Sure, some players might be more skillful and able to use said vehicles in tight spaces, but that's a small segment of the community. Making vehicles nearly useless for the larger portion of your fanbase is not a good idea... It's as if there was no QA for this title.... -1

7 - Campaign was okay, at best.

I kind of like the direction it was going, but there was no sense of any real urgency during the entire plot. Sure, the guardians are waking up and things are going to hell, but it's best if we just look for the Master Chief who, we all know, is off doing what he does best. Saving mankind. But let's waste time trying to stop him even though we all know that even if we could, we'd be dooming mankind. Genius writing. BTW, that was sarcasm. -1

    8 - The menus.

Face it, there's so many redundancies and useless submenus that it can be a little confusing. For the first 20 minutes of online after the campaign, I spent nearly all of it going through each individual menu to figure out where everything was essentially hidden. Simplify it, seriously. -1

    9 - Characters are bad.

The characters for this title just ooze political correctness. While anyone can appreciate having a diverse team of protagonist, that doesn't mean they prefer it over character fluidity. They all feel forced and there is near zero chemistry between any of them. I'd rather an all white, all black, all male, or all female team as opposed to what they offered. It's a game, leave the political agenda at the door. Not to mention some of the commentary from the female spartans mid game.... No one cares nor was it called for to comment on the gender equality of Sangheilis. Again, leave the PC drivel at the door. -1

    10 - Free map packs!

I can't stress how important this is. It speaks for itself and one can only hope they continue this trend. +1

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game completely detached itself from it's past games. It's story is terribly written and they attempted to write out it's main character to introduce another. 343i seemed to think that it's player base wouldn't care for lack of Chief, but it did. 3 missions with Chief and 12 with Locke, Soo much fun. The game also had one of the best marketing scheme's out there to hype the game and get players ready.... Too bad that fell hard on it's face and wasted hours of players times. None of the marketing comes into play, even Hunt the Truth. The multiplayer was ok, though the overall first impression showed that Microsoft wants back in the Mlg Scene and that completely ruined the mp on launch for me. Overall, this game could have been better, but it just didn't have the chops that Halo 4 had. Expand

In Halo 5 you have squadmades constantly squawking in your ear to revive them, and they never go away. You might think, "okay so if I hook up another controller and play split screen, I don't need to listen to these idiots?" You would be incorrect, because this game doesn't have split screen. You literally need to have a separate Xbox One and separate TV for each player, plus an internet connection because the game doesn't even support LAN.

They've also ruined the gameplay by introducing climbing and dodging mechanics. Please stop, that doesn't belong in Halo.

So you get it, they've ruined the ethos and interactivity of the game. But what about the story? Oh, that's rubbish too.

I've played all the Halo games, from 1 to 5, ODST and Reach.

Halo 4 was somehow different, but still "aligned" with past games.
Imho Halo 4 had the best gameplay, but it was probably too fast compared the other halos (everyone having sprint ability make the game totally different)

    Then Halo 5 came:
    Pros:
    - good/decent graphics;
    - 60fps is nice;

    Cons:
    - campaign plot is bland, flood are completely forgotten and overall now everything is switched to a generic sci-fi game. Bad. Really bad.

    - no split-screen. It explain itself. On Xbox One MS even removed the led indicators telling you which of the 4 players you are. MS is clearly yelling "PLAY ALONE"... to a big community who liked split-screen!

    - WORST auto-aim ever seen: impossible to disable. The feeling is totally different from any previous Halo game or ANY OTHER fps! It's incredible how BAD they made aiming! Even more... coming from the background of other 5/6 Halo games with perfect aiming!!
Once you get used to it the game is too easy! Like they wanted to remove the player ability to "flatten" the win/death ratio. So a new and unskilled player can overcome pro players. Totally BAD decision here.
You might play for 30 seconds, feel the auto-aim, and think "WTF is this!?", and uninstall the game!

    - online matchmaking is worse than MCC (incredible!). There is a store to buy weapons&stuff... bad. Really bad.
A small example, once you "unlock" a vehicle in an online match (by scoring points in game or by buying cards outside the game... LOL) you SPAWN directly inside a vehicle!!! WTF is this!
On every other Halo you FIND a vehicle and start piloting it! Fighting to get it!
Halo 5 is for... smartphone users!!

Everything is done with the "how can we piss of Halo fans the most?" motto.

Microsoft/343i managed to ruin the only good exclusive game they had.
I did buy Xbox One only because my 360 died and i had hopes for Halo 5.
They managed to make MCC with countless problems ("ruining" past good games) and Halo 5 without splitscreen and every other crazy stuff.
The 343 official forum is a "hen-house" where only the blind 343 fan manage to stay... gloating about everything 343 do, mindlessly.
Other users which try to use the brain and give their opinion ends up BANNED!
So the forum is "cleansed" by the problems! 343i is just burying the problems. Genius move!

Then there is still that aberrant "Halo Channel" app that even LAGS by barely navigating the UI alone!!!
It can't play any video, and the rare times when it works the video is in low quality!

343i tried to convert Halo in a "show" with Tv serials and other low quality stuff.... for bored people!

Everybody loved Halo from 1 to 3 , ODST and Reach. Those games will be remembered!
I liked Halo 4, but it had its problems... maybe...

Halo 5? It is ALREADY forgotten.
That's the result of over-milking and turning a good franchise in a trash-show for avidity.

Halo was the ONLY chance Microsoft had to make interesting buying an Xbox.
Halo Infinite already seems to be failing as much as Halo 5.

Multiplayer is also awful, all games are rated and your rating goes up based on games won, so if you play with good friends and later play on your own you're massively out of your depth. 4v4 means that games are very skewed and if someone leaves you're **** No idea why 343i chose to do 4v4 instead of the traditional 6v6. Maps are tiny and all the same, in fact its easy on spawn to be confused about where you are. Power weapons pretty much give the other team free kills until the next power weapon.

This is the first Halo game i don't enjoy playing, and replaced it with BF1 as my go to MP game.
    - The multiplayer heavily caters to noobs and new players. Over the few months playing something has felt suspiciously off about the aim and the gameplay of the multiplayer. It is until i realized it is littered with subtle noob assist mechanics all over the matches. I finally figured out what felt off from this installment. It's far more noticeable when you've been a fairly good players in previous games with a great K/D, yet somehow everyone seems to be "good" at HALO 5. There are countless times where noticeably mediocre players "somehow" get the edge and win on a 1v1 confrontation. I can get first shot on an unaware player, while he reloads then they will turn and kill me with less shots. There are so many **** kills in this game, so much grenade spamming. To make it worse the grenades are "strangely" accurate and will seem to follow and fall in proximity to enemies no matter how bad you throw them. Some power weapons hit boxes are either glitched or affected by that Noob Assist, since i've fired direct rockets at enemies and vehicles with no apparent damage and then they will just turn and kill me as if the Assault Rifle was no less powerful than a SAW. In FACT i've had a few 1v1 with my SAW against a AR and either lose, or nearly die despite shooting the enemy first and direct.
Weapon power is not really set, and seems to fluctuate depending if the game decides the match is "fair and competitive" it will either nerf or boost weapons as the match goes, all without players awareness, just to "keep a fair competitive" match going. Like some kind of SJW BS where noob players need to have a chance against skilled players, so they game subtly assists them.
Yeah, because it's not obvious Jimmy who threw a grenade the wrong way somehow bounces back to the right direction and kills me, and his bad aim somehow sticks to my moving Spartan and gets an insanely accurate hitbox on me despite his aim being all over the place, while i hold a steady aim and somehow Jimmy wont die with my full clip, and he spend only like 3 bullets with the same gun as me and the rest of his shots fly around me.
    - Can't use forge offline
    - Weapons feel greatly under powered in Warzone against AI.
Weapons need more ammo to balance their lack of firepower against sponge enemies. Something just feels off about weapons and hit boxes.
    - No matchmaking for campaign, has to be with friends.
    - Graphics are great but lacking in some areas. Blue Team level is a perfect example. Over detailed environment adding a bunch of random details in walls and objects that would look better simplified, but no shadow casting from characters onto environment and even flashlight looks like crap as it casts no light in dark walls. So it looks terrible.
    - Warzone firefight is enjoyable, and so is Arena.

Halo 5's map selection was advertised as the largest and most varied for any Halo game to date. This is untrue, many of the maps that came with the game are just forge maps that took no effort for the dev team to make. Besides that we are given 5 true arena maps, 3 of which are just remixes of midship, if midship were 3 times larger and filled with clutter. I haven't bothered to play any of the warzone maps, due to that mode's use of microtransactions.

The story is just bad and plays out like fanfiction. I'll leave it at that to avoid spoilers.

Other gripes: aiming feels clunky due to deadzones and aim acceleration, ranking system does not match players by rank, Master Chief is only in 3 out of the 15 missions, weapon sounds seem weak. ADS blocks part of the screen when zoomed in on certain weapons despite functioning the same as previous games, effectively making this mechanic a downgrade.

I don't know what is going on at 343 but the fact that they continue to release broken and unfinished games every year is a major problem. Their we'll fix it later mentality will kill this franchise. It's beyond my understanding how Bungie was able to release fully functioning Halo 3 way back in 07 filled with features and customization options after 3 years dev time, yet 343 with a larger staff and an equal amount of time can ony manage a game with about half the content of H3.

The game proudly shows its bright colors and new gameplay gimics, but it does every major fan of the Halo franchise a major disservice by creating the single most pathetic attempt at a Halo story to be seen by the series beloved fans. The potential story shown through trailers and teasers appears to show this amazing and intricate story experience, with depth and lore abounding- yet when you finish the campaign, you may feel like the series you have grown to love for its amazing and out-of-this-world story telling has decided to become a lump of coal among a group of diamonds. The story begins with what appears to be a halfway decent story, but as you progress through, it seems that the writers become more and more confused, throwing in random and meaningless story twists and events that in and of themselves make less and less sense. The game, going away from its roots of grandiose and colossal events and threat, and leaves it for a pathetic, all too similar story as Halo 4. The writers, instead of making an ending that at LEAST has closure and a meaningful or well delivered closing, leaves the campaign open ended and with the least closure possible.

If you are a fan of the story of Halo, forgo the campaign in this game. Do not BUY this game. Do not let companies take beloved and well written stories, and butcher them for the sake of online multiplayer. Halo fans deserve better than what this game delivers.

After 9+GB's of space for updates. Yes updates and also yes there is a micro transaction system. Which is fitting as the company that funded this trash is Micro-Soft.

There are so many improvements that could have been made.

    The issues are :

    -Cliff Hanger ending
    -Poorly executed cut-sceen choreography
    -A story reduced to filler.
    -still lack of split screen.
    - Depreciated by about 50%
-Takes up a estimated 87 GB of Hard drive space.
-Requires a 720p or higher definition to look good.
-Also the World Record for speed running the game on easy is close to about an hour and the legendary speed run is about only an 1 hr and half. Only about 20-30 minutes longer.(Falling short of 343i's promise. Of the game being longer than Halo 2.) To break it down a decent FPS gamer should beat the game on easy or normal in 3-4 hours. Heroric or legendary maybe a little longer.

Sorry, but this is the worst Halo game ever. Especially the singleplayer campaign is unplayable with this stupid Team-AI, which does not help you at all and let you die plenty of times. With the Promethean on Legendary you're going not to have fun in this game.
You're kinda happy when the aliance is forcing you because they're much more balanced and good to fight not as the prometheans

Only the "ingame look and design" and my love to the Halo games before saved Halo 5 from an 0 points rating.

Straight trash, Halo 5 is the worst in the series, by far, 343 doesn't know to make a good Halo.

By far the worst Halo. I keep trying to give it another shot, but it fails. OK graphics, everything else is a step down from the other halos. Just get the master chief collection and skip this one. As a huge fan of Halo, I played the collection, excited to play even more halo I started five and then dropped it pretty fast. The game itself is a platform without more, quite fast, with the typical story of light VS darkness.

Graphically it is beautiful, very colorful, with great contrasts in the same plane, but what gives a feeling of playing something that does not have all 2D platform games is the soundtrack, the perfect companion for the story, a soundtrack where Melodic wins the story itself that

It just doesn't flow, the feel of the game is off... No wonder DOOM has a higher Metacritic score than this, DOOM is simply the better first person shooter, Halo needs to be buried now, it is old and stale.

I'm going to rip the multiplayer apart. The barrier to entry in multiplayer is gigantic. There is no matchmaking, no elo or ranking system, and not a hint of team skill distribution. If you don't put together your team of experienced players you will get a random bunch. Many people are just hiding collecting points and there is constant logging off if your team falls behind. I know many of you are probably saying this is all typical competitive shooter stuff and you are right. All that BS is here in spades! Plus there is a bit of pay to win going on with the microtransactions. Expand

I haven't felt this ripped off by a game since Crysis 3. It's nothing more than a pile of melodramatic hyperbole capable of entertaining a little more than an infant. I appreciate the game mechanics and the technology that went into making it, but not even the graphics are as detailed as most other AAA titles. You really have to be lacking in experience to enjoy something like this. Doesn't matter though. Look forward to your recycled pile of crap next year, children. Meanwhile, all of the rest of the none Xbone fanboys are playing real video games that are actually worth the money. Expand

Terribly broken and horribly put together story. Lack of any split-screen gaming puts this game as one of the worst (if not the worst) Halo games created in my book.

Halo 5: Guardians is okay. Its campaign is rubbish, but the multiplayer is solid thanks to the foundation it’s built upon. Warzone is a really enjoyable experience, and while combat is still mostly about tossing grenades and hitting the melee button, the whole Requisition gimmick adds some much-needed flavor to proceedings.

The latest Halo is a big deal only for hardcore Halo fans. For me the single player campaign was unbearably pompous and despite 1080p and 60 fps the visuals are not as breathtaking as they once were in Halo 4. The game builds a solid foundation for Halo 6, but it’s not one of those games you absolutely have to play. [13/2015, p.48]

With a more accessible and engaging story and solid new designs for the Prometheans, Halo 5 is a major improvement over Halo 4. Warzone is a great addition to the multiplayer, though the mode seems to have some game balance issues. [Nov 2015]
