    The Coalition adds to its visually impressive resume with its second ever Gears of War game (after GOW: Ultimate). This new Gears game takes the cover-based shooting established in previous Gears titles and ups the ante in a lot of ways. The combat is similar to the other Gears games: there’s the ability to get behind cover and sprint, as well as pulling the enemy over cover and knife executing them, as well as the loadout of four weapons, and a class special ability in Horde mode. While this isn’t quite an inventive game, there’s tons of fun to be had in taking out opponents or interrupting a firefight with a grenade and getting a double kill.

    The controls are top notch. The Xbox One controller is second to none, and this game helps prove that point. I never ran into control issues during my 7 hour campaign run, or my 15 hour horde mode run. Thanks to the superb controls, the combat felt both precise and elegant overall.

    While it’s possible to earn points to spend on in-game items like weapons, upgrades, and items, there’s also a way to spend real world money as well. The season pass supposedly unlocks a good bit of stuff in order to boost your earnings and experience, but I didn't pay for a season pass, so I don't care all that much.

    All in all, the game is a very fun cover based shooter title with lots of replay and gorgeous graphics.    … Expand

    What was already good, it was even better. The story of the game is wonderful, the game is graphically gorgeous. I loved it! I look forward to a continuation of this beautiful game.

    If all PS4 and XBOX ONE console holders have to hold onto now is this and Uncharted we could be in for a world of hurt. Like Halo 5 this game pretty much demands the entry to another full priced game with not only its outrageous seasoned pass, but it's pay to win crates.     I've never played a Gears game that has been in development for this long be this bad... the matchmaking is almost unplayable, the hit detection is so bad no game feels official. Horde has less features, and the fortifications don't hold up well... this is half the game Gears 3 was, and it's almost double the price if you include the pass.

    Honestly, it reignites my interest and excitement in the Gears series. I was skeptical with the Coalition now taking control of the reigns, but now I'm certain they can do awesome things with the next game or two. My only two complaints are that the characters are weak and the story is mostly there to lay the foundation of a new game. Other than that, story was great and the game was great!

    The game is really good from the campaign all the way to multiplayer is almost perfect. The campaign is what you expect from a Gears game but with more humor and great pacing. Adding classes to the horde mode is brilliant, makes a different experience every time with all the skills and set up. The multiplayer is everything you expect from gears plus new modes.

    The reason for giving it a 9 instead of 10 is customization. These is were the game fails across the board in my opinion. In Gears of War 3 you have to obtain the characters and weapon skin by doing something in the game and sometimes even on older games. yes there was micro transactions too but it wasn't the only option and made you want it more. Example, in GoW3 you had to gain a certain amount of mvp ribbons to obtain the mvp Cole. So if you see someone with it in multiplayer you would think that he has to be at least a decent player. On the other hand if you see someone with a rare skin in GoW4 so say hey that guy has a lot of luck or money. Yes you still can get it by playing a lot and getting those coins to buy the packages but not everything. Example, the e-sport support package had exclusives skins that you could gamble to get what you wanted for $10 and no other way.    … Expand

The graphics are amazing but the gameplay is mediocre it looks copy pasted from the previous gears games and the animations feel kind of dated. The multiplayer does what it does out to do but not my cup of tea anyway.     The singleplayer was fantastic, with the perfect blend of old and new with loads of polish. The multiplayer didn't really hold me, but it's just not really my style (rolling and hip-firing shotguns all day).

    gears of war mechanically is a good game, all the new weapons feel good and the game feels awesome, the problems i have are with the story and the progression system. The story is meh and i didn't connect to the characters. The progression system is what really bugs me.     Better than expected. Variety in gameplay and settings throughout the campaign. Amazing graphics. Slightly bland characters mean the plot has less impact than previous games however. Great new additions to horde and multiplayer. No doubt good value for money.

    Gears of War 4 is a solid game.

    The campaign itself is a fun romp, with varied level design and set pieces throughout it. The Swarm aren't as good as the locus, but they still have some cool monsters, and the way the Collalition introduces them are all pretty cool. The writing is a step up for the series as well, with more personality given to the new leads (and some good lines to the    Gears of War 4 is a solid game.

    The campaign itself is a fun romp, with varied level design and set pieces throughout it. The writing is a step up for the series as well, with more personality given to the new leads (and some good lines to the old), and the ending was a great "WTF" moment as a fan of the series.

    The Horde mode is back and better then ever. Similar to Gears 3's horde mode except a lot more flexible, and it is very fun. I like the new class system and how you can choose different upgrades for them, so if two people are a soldier one can be focused on assault rifle damage while another can focus on other guns and health. The only thing is I wish there were a few more types of bosses, like maybe a few can be put in for dlc.

    The competitive multiplayer is back and fun. I do have a few problems with it though. One, I feel like there could be a few more maps. Some of these maps are simply amazing, maps that I will be playing a lot, but others, while still good, make me want more. Not only that, but I wish there were more social playlist then one that just combines all of them.

    My other big complaint is the store system needs some work. The player earns credits too slowly and the loot (which gives you horde upgrades, versus bounties and cosmetics) is too expensive, plus you can get repeats. If everything were cheaper and you earned a few by your self (like lets say every 20 levels are so) I would be fine, but as it stands it could be better.

    Overall, fantastic game that could have some work with its matchmaking, enemy variety (specifically bosses) and its currency system. I would recommend to any fan of the series or anybody looking for a good shooter, there is definitely $60 worth of content here. If you're not a fan of the series, I would stay away because this won't change your mind.    … Expand

    The game overall is very good and very close to the feeling of the Gears 1 which I adore. There are great and enjoyable "bruckheimer" moments like that improvised elevator or the plane chase and overall, everything feels fine tuned.

    I didn't like the "wave" phase in the campaign: they are too slow to prepare with a strategy that could be summed up as "choose 2 barriers or one turret".    The game overall is very good and very close to the feeling of the Gears 1 which I adore. It feels like the many boring netflix series where you watch a 40 minutes episode to realize that thing could have been told in 10 minutes without sacrificing the emotional charge. The characters (geek soldiers?) are not very interesting either but, to be fair, it's hard to measure to the original gears.    … Expand

The good : Loved the ending. it has that classic feel of gears 1 in both campaign and multiplayer. It brings back the old delta squad. The multiplayer is fun.     Return to the sources. This is the best GoW game in the series since the first one. It does not reinvent the wheel but it follows up and is a good successor to the GoW universe.

    Gear of War 4 is my first Gear of War game . this game is not bad, it is great game, but the story normally but still acceptable, gameplay is good with a lot of fun and blood,AI is good but boss is quite easy I do not like that, action is great and epic but shoot the enemy so much , sound weapons and voice actors is amazing , the only thing I give this game 8/10 because campaign isGear of War 4 is my first Gear of War game . this game is not bad, it is great game, but the story normally but still acceptable, gameplay is good with a lot of fun and blood,AI is good but boss is quite easy I do not like that, action is great and epic but shoot the enemy so much , sound weapons and voice actors is amazing , the only thing I give this game 8/10 because campaign is too short to play but this is still a good game for xbox one and pc… Expand

This causes players like me, who used rifles in gears 3, to be at so much of a disadvantage that we are forced to use the same weapons and tactics as everyone else. Some people like it this way, however it makes the gameplay get really old really fast. I can play more than 3Multiplayer is horrible. This is due to the unbalanced power of starting weapons.     There's no reason for hating this game. Simply, it's way too good for negative score. I also won't give it 10/10 (The Witcher 3 deserve it only). I know that Sony users drag this game down. Jealousy? Well, they have "No men's sky", we have GOW4! The campaign is great, such an epic battles, lovely ride! 10-12 hours really fantastic experience.     I am a HUGE Gears 3 fan! Especially the horde mode where me and several friends played for 5 years. The campaign was a lot shorter then I thought. About 8-8.5 hours. But I thought the story was pretty well done. I really liked how they introduced new characters as well as show us the oldies. Loved seeing some of the old characters. I also liked how they introduced a couple of newI am a HUGE Gears 3 fan! Especially the horde mode where me and several friends played for 5 years. The campaign was a lot shorter then I thought. About 8-8.5 hours. But I thought the story was pretty well done. I really liked how they introduced new characters as well as show us the oldies. Loved seeing some of the old characters. I also liked how they introduced a couple of new weapons. The overkill and buzzkill are awesome! It was very obvious they left it for another game or two which was fine by me.

    I don't do versus mode so much but I do know a ton about Horde mode. As I said before, I thought Gears 3 had the perfect horde mode. Gears 4 is ok at best to me. I guess one of the good things about it is that they have pretty much forced you to try new things and take you out of your comfort zone. My beef is not with the class system as it is more with a couple of other key contents. One is the "build the barriers wherever you want" thing. The combat on normal is so hard (with 3 people) that the only way to be able to survive long enough, you have to set up at one end of the map all the time. You can't experience these maps for what they are because you can easily get run over otherwise unless you find a one way funnel. In Gears 3 you were forced to take residence one place or another and try and defend it. Here, you are lucky if you can defend two barriers. The other thing is the 30 seconds they give you before the waive starts. Are you kidding me? 30 seconds? With all the crap that we have to do to prepare, they should have at least given us 1 minute. You can't just repair like you used to, one button and your done. Here you have to have a engineer with a tool to repair everything. That takes time. Then you have to have all the guys go out there and pick up all the "money" from dead bodies. Then bring it back to the base. If you coordinate it well, you are lucky if you can get everything done in 30 seconds. It usually doesn't happen though.

    My friends and I thrived on seeing how long you can go without using the turrets or Silverback in Gears 3. In 4, you can't survive unless you start using it at waive 8! Are you kidding me? And this is on normal. This makes the game very boring where you always are setting up at one end of the map trying to funnel them in and killing them with a turret or two. In Gears 3, we were well into the late 30's before we needed heavier weapons.

    The other thing in Horde that was lacking was the variety of baddies. In 3 there were so many different kind of guys. Here, there are basically just a handful. There are basically 4 different types of Robots and 4 different kinds of Locusts. In 3 you could tell which was which by the way they looked and sounded. In 4 for example, the Big lumbering guys all look the same but carry different weapons. Same with the drones. That was not the case in 3. The variety was a lot more.

    Again, I am basing this on playing this with 3 people, not the 5 online that most do. That is because we have found out that most people don't play horde the way it should be, as a team. They just go off running on their own being idiots and getting themselves killed. Gears 4 tries to address the team concept but I don't think it succeeded doing that. It just made it more difficult and tedious and not as fun to play.

    I almost forgot, the whole card business that most game developers are going to is just so annoying. It is fun to open them at first but then after a little while you realize you keep getting the same crap. And they don't tell you how you make money in order to get card packs free. Once we played until waive 20 on horde and got $1000. Next time we played till 30 and got only a few hundred. What gives? Anyway, just another way for us to spend real money which there is no way in hell I will.

    Gears 3 was the pinnacle of greatness in the Gears series. I just don't feel the pull to keep playing 4 like I did with 3 is there.    … Expand

The multiplayer and horde elements hold up fairly well, but feel shallow when you realise the end-game is just to get some skins that other people got before they played their first match! Gears 4 has less content than 3, 2, and arguably the original. It has a measly 7 maps, and averages on 4 chapters an Act, which is honestly pathetic. Some parts of the story try to make up for this, but in the end, based on my experiences with this title, previous 4 games, and other popular titles, I were to buy this game again, it would be on sale, for no more than around $/£30, once future updates have been released to add more maps to play & skins to work towards.    … Expand

    This Game IS FANTASTIC . The Coalition is the damn right developer to this franchise and they prove it with this magnificent game . The characters this time adds more emotion this time round in my opinion playing as JD Fenix, Fait and Del, i had great fun playing through the campaign and even more fun in Horde 3.0 a hybrid of Judgement and 3's Horde Mode, having class based characters and a improved currency system, the added game modes in multiplayer brings in new styles to play. The visuals are stunning on the standard Xbox One and no doubt looks better on the Xbox One S and PC, the only issue i came up with was the lack of campaign achievements but that's just my opinion on the fact, but overall i give the game a 10… Expand

It is good that not too much has changed here, given the disservice to fans that was GOW: Judgement, it seems TheGears of War 4 has the same charm as the original trilogy.     The campaign is pretty solid. The dialog is humorous but can be kind of forced at times. The waves of enemies can get repetitive at times but otherwise a solid Xbox One game!

Dopo il successo di Halo 5 Guardians, arriva sul mercato il nuovo Gears of War 4, atteso seguito della saga creata da Cliff Bleszinski che ha ''segnato'' xbox 360 e che, di fatto, entra e forma il triumvirato Halo-Forza-Gears, vere punte di diamante dell'ammiraglia Microsoft.
    Gears of War 4 è tutto ciò che i fan potevano aspettarsi, violento, crudo, tamarro. Si spara, si spara tanto e si spara bene. La formala è sempre la stessa: Tps con visuale dietro la schiena leggermente spostata di lato, dove le coperture sono la parte fondamentale dell'azione. Il feedback di ogni arma è magnifico, molte coperture sono distruttibili, e il numero di nemici su schermo diventa altissimo a volte. Sono state implementate anche nuove meccaniche di assassinio, nuove armi come un fucile a pompa che spara due volte con una singola pressione del grilletto e ovviamente una serie di nemici nuovi.
    La storia raccontata, è semplice e di impatto: siamo JD, il figlio di Marcus Fenix, adirati verso il nuovo regime di CoG e verso un padre assente, cerchiamo asilo presso un gruppo di sovversivi, ma una serie di nuove (e vecchie) minacce ci faranno tornare a combattere. La trama da un ottimo pretesto per macinare orde di avversari e il gioco si finisce senza sentire frustazione ne ripetitività, merito anche del gameplay perfetto.
    Graficamente il gioco è superbo, 1080p e 30 fps nel single player e 720p a 60fps nel multi, gli scorci e le ambientazioni sono come sempre pazzesche e l'Unreal Engine fa i soliti miracoli.

    The Gears of War game I didn't know I wanted! Was just looking for something until BF1 and COD remaster come out. Game is a blast. Graphics are spectacular. Horde mode is fun. Too bad so PS players don't have any fun games to play so they have plenty of time to come on here and tear down a great game. They'll have even more time next year when Project Scorpio comes out. lol lol

    When Microsoft announced that they were releasing a Gears of War 4 game, I was both really excited and really nervous to play the game. Microsoft hasn't been on the best of our mines. They've rebooted two key Xbox franchises: Tomb Raider and Halo. Tomb Raider was very successful, but Halo has definitely not been successful. I didn't want Gears of War to fall into the same category as HaloWhen Microsoft announced that they were releasing a Gears of War 4 game, I was both really excited and really nervous to play the game.     I'm very happy to say that not only does The Coalition (the company responsible for developing next-gen gears of war titles) revitalize the franchise with this reboot, it keeps the "Gears formula" as it was in the first three games! 343 Industries needs to take some serious notes on this game, so they make sure they know changing a formula isn't going to necessarily make a game better.

    The games campaign is really good! Like Uncharted 4 or even the recent Star Wars VII movie, the story isn't anything special, but the gameplay is great enough to keep players invested in the game. It also adds new environmental hazards that occur at certain moments in the game, which forces players to change their play style, duck behind certain cover points while staying away from others, certain weapons need to be shoot from a certain angle because the wind will blow the bullets away from the target, and little things like this that makes the game exciting while also adding new layers to the Gears of War formula. The graphics are great, the gameplay is great, the voice acting is really good, and I found it more surprising that I actually liked the new characters; JD, Kait, and Del. These characters aren't there to replace the old because we know that nobody can replace Cole Baird, Marcus, or Dom (Rest in Piece!!!). A big chunk of the game actually involves Marcus Fenix quite a bit. Some of the bits are actually quite humorous (like when the COG sends DB Bots to capture Marcus' son, and they destroy his tomato garden. Marcus gets pissed about it. It made me chuckle quite a bit) The enemy AI is arguably the best in the series. Enemies use cover more strategically then in previous gears games. It also offers new enemy types, including Juvies, Scions, and Pouncers. One of the issues I had with the campaign was, while a lot of the art design respects the original (unlike Halo 4 and Halo 5), the DB bots, which are the enemies of the first and second act look very colorful. This takes away from the grittiness of the game, and looks almost a bit cartoonish. It's just not as satisfying chainsawing through a machine than flesh and bone. I love that they kept the gore in the game and the same assets and designs. The snatcher, a mini-boss, is also very annoying. He kills you in one shot, snatches you up, and takes you away, which forces you to restart to the last checkpoint. This was the only major glaring issue with the campaign that I've had so far. There haven't been any continuity errors as far as I have seen, and overall, the campaign is a welcome arch to the new generation of Gears fans. 8/10! It's really good!

    To be honest, when I played the Gears 4 multiplayer beta, I wasn't impressed at all. In fact, I disliked it very much. The weapon balance was off, it was too easy to run and gun enemy players behind cover, and the strategy, which made the Gears multiplayer so engaging was lost. The Coalition has thankfully listened to the community. The game functions a lot like it did with past gears titles. The maps are decent, but I found the gamemodes to be unbalanced. For example: I played Guardian, where your team has to defend a player marked as "The Leader" and if the leader dies, the enemy team can begin killing off your allies. Our leader constantly ran out and got himself killed while the enemy leader stayed in the back corner defend by his team. It became a camping game rather than a third-person strategic cover shooter. I often find myself playing against experience players while my team consists of new players who attempt to run out and eliminate the enemy team as quickly as possible. They often get themselves killed, and I end up being the last player surrounded by a full 5 player enemy team. I want the Coalition to update the game's matchmaking so that it's easier to get match with players of equal skill. Overall, I really enjoyed the multiplayer. It's not perfect, but it is much better than I had expected it to be. 7/10! It's good!

    The Horde mode is back, and it's better than ever! I love playing this made with my friends in Gears 3, and Gears 4 definitely improves upon it! In between waves, you set up your defenses. Certain spots on the maps were set up to allow players to set up say, one turret in the back, barriers at the front, two decoys in the windows, etc. I'm hooked on this mode! I highly recommend it to any gears fan who wants a more cooperative experience. 8/10! It's really good!

    I'm surprised few mentioned the microtransactions! They aren't as invasive as most, but please take them out of the game Microsoft! Please!!!    … Expand

    Story: now admittedly, I am brand new to the series so many aspects of this game or throwbacks are either brand new to me or go over my head. But I think I get the main idea of the story, many people are getting snatched away by creatures being called “The Swarm”. You play as Marcus Fenix’s son James, who is trying to rescue some of the crew. Later on you learn that these “Swarm” have some sort of connection with the old enemies called “The Locust”, however we don’t learn a whole lot in this game as it feels the developers are setting up for the story to really take place in a future installment.
    Gameplay: this game handles extremely well. It strongly urges the use of using cover as often as possible and the weapons while varied all feel incredibly satisfying to use. Whether killing an enemy by filling them with bullets or ripping them in half with a chainsaw, you’ll be right at home no matter the weapon you enjoy using.
    Conclusion: this game is really enjoyable. It was well worth the price and I am always eager to get in and try out the multiplayer modes in the game. The story mode while not being short didn’t feel like it dragged on too long, nor did I feel like it was ever a chore playing the game.
    That being said I personally didn’t personally enjoy the three Fabricator segments in the story which are essentially wave survival modes.
    Score: while this game does do a lot of things right, it is not without its flaws. The Fabricator sections feel like they breakup the story a bit too much and at times just feel forced on the player. As for the story, while being amazing, feels a bit like filler to prepare for a future game. I give this game a score of 7/10 (note: this score is purely personal opinion and you should try the game for yourself before passing judgement)    … Expand

So now, you have to spend countless hours grinding (and/or spending more money) to get right back to the kind of abilities/power, you had in the past games to start off with. Last I checked, I was buying a shooter, not an rpg. Said another way: the game isn't any harder or innovative: they've just dumbed it down so you now have to grind 200+ hours and pay additional money to get right back to where you used to start out in previous games. It's the ultimate con, and Microsoft should be ashamed of itself for pulling an EA move. Your reputation as a company will suffer in the long run, and I won't be buying future games from this company without a lot of research as a result.… Expand

Мыс Асфо о котором написана целая книга изковеркан и засунут в миссию на 5 минут... Роботы... И самое на мой взгляд смешное босс вертолёт, которых Мэддисон ещё в своиг годы признал зашкваром.     What a disappointment this game really is just more of the same old tired Gears gameplay, uninspired single player that is incredibly short at 6-7hrs. Multiplayer is fine again very much the same as before (Which was always good,) however there is microtransactions (cosmetic items) which personally I feel have no place in a full price AAA title.

This game is definitely the most enjoyable I have seen this year . Gears has always been my favourite games and I simply love this one as well . Okay, but how are our new heros? Underwhelming. JD Fenix, Del, and Kait. JD and Del are no were near like Marcus and Dom were and Kait isn't like Anya or even Sam. The characters are all badasses except for JD Fenix, the protagonist who is your everyman boyscout, and this is a letdown considering how Marcus was one of the best protagonists in all of gaming, truly badass and undeniably the coolest ever and continues to be so in this game. The others are also pretty good, anyway we also have to put into consideration the fact that this is their first rodeo so of course, they are soft. the gameplay is as satisfying as ever and is more polished, it is easier to bounce in and out of cover and is overall smoother in every other aspect. There is a lot of variation, many enemy types and the AI is much smarter making you actually think where and when to move using which weapon and whatnot. The multiplayer has a few hiccups here and there, it lags from time to time and matches are kinda slow to find, however it looks gorgeous, each map is amazing in its own right and with the patch today its even better now with no lag. I hope that gears will take some tips from halo multiplayer and make it much much better. horde is a treat, very challenging and satisfying. the campaign is a bit short and the story is a bit small scale, you dont feel like as if you're saving the world but the future installments will obviously change that. I really hope they refine the multiplayer a bit more, because it is fun, there is no denying that however, it's very odd to find matches. Maybe i am a but too used to the halo 5 matchmaking but it's flawless and I am sure that with microsoft's backing it is possible to make the match finding more intuitive and overall easier to find. I would rate it a 9 but with the insecure sony fanboys still riding on uncharted 4 rating it zeroes i have to fight back. this game is easily 10 material but i'd give it a few months till it gets to that level.… Expand

    Superb graphics, dumb story and forgettable characters. I don't even remember the name of Fenix's dumbbell of a son. Weapons are near useless. Special weapons are poorly designed and placed. Epic had nothing to do with this dog and it shows. My advice is to wait until it hits the bargain bin if you must have it.

    Gears 4 is definitely in the top two of the franchise as it takes everything that worked from the previous games and tosses what didn't. It's simply put, a fun game to play. Whether you're looking for a good sized third person shooter campaign, a competitive multiplayer, or a great cooperative horde mode, Gears of War 4 has got the goods. Go pick it up.

    Nice game and this is masterpiece, to gear the living world, trees are realistic, all destroyed, but the storm is really felt, there are moments that are simply breathtaking, and the music evokes a sense of the atmosphere, generally get a great continuation of the new trilogy saga.

It does improve the combat system from Gears of War 3 and is a total overall improvement over Judgement BUT the storytelling and amount of content (at launch) is SO weak compared to Gears 3 that it's almost painful. The horde mode is fun but the class system isn't as deep as it could be, and again, the content to be unlock justIt's far from bad but it's also a ways away from great.     Such an incredible game including high graphics and nice gameplay. But I wish there were more innovations. The story was short however the storyline was great. Im a big fan of gears of war series but something that I don't understand is about some non-professional gamers claim 0 rate for this game. No game even the worst ones don't deserve 0 RATING!!!

    Gears of war 4 is fantastic! I loved the campaign and the multiplayer is so addictive! The return of the Horde mode makes the game worth playing hours and hours!

    the first 2 hours are a bit tedious, but the other 7 and a half are a blast, pure nostalgia and frenetic gameplay as ever with a few changes here and there that make the game feels new and familiar at the same time, the graphics are great and the story it´s best good i give it a solid 9 because it deserved, not like some idiots here that gave a zero to a game like it was nothing

    Now, on to my GoW4 thoughts. As far as the story goes: While it's short, it's my favorite in the series. It's funny, and action packed. I just hope that they can make 5 longer. There is so much variety that they introduce in the campaign that they really can make it longer.

    As far as gameplay goes... it's tight. This is a Gears game fo sho. I was worried, what with the new studio taking over. My worries are gone. This feels just as good as the first time I played GoW1. I would give it a 9 only because the story should really be a 10-12 hour length. But its just over 6 and a half hours. I'm giving this a 10 just to counter all the fanboy reviews.

    As far as transitioning to the new characters from the old. Think of Star Wars episode 7 and how it was done there. Masterfully passing the torch.

    Actually I didn't want to buy this game because I've heard that Coalition said that the game would be similiar (gameplay etc.) to the first games.

    After all, my opinion totally changed:

    Awesome, cinematic campaign and a stunning multiplayer which makes really fun to play. Everthing is made perfect with the awesome graphics, they really made the best they can with the Unreal Engine!!

    Gears 4's story is catching some flak from some reviewers. LOL a game's story? Really? None of these things are delivering Shakespeare, you know? Anyhoo, set 25 years after Gears 3 and the new COG isn't exactly fair and balanced. In fact, their soldiers aren't even human. Kinda fun twist that presents a new faction with new tactics to engage with. Also with them are two of my favorite newGears 4's story is catching some flak from some reviewers. LOL a game's story? Really? None of these things are delivering Shakespeare, you know? Anyhoo, set 25 years after Gears 3 and the new COG isn't exactly fair and balanced. In fact, their soldiers aren't even human. Kinda fun twist that presents a new faction with new tactics to engage with. Also with them are two of my favorite new weapons, the sub machine gun and the Overkill automatic shotgun. The embar rifle is tricky but packs a punch once you get the firing timing down and killing some larger mechanized enemies yields tri-gun heavy machine guns and 4salvo rocket launchers.
    The dialogue is subtle but unless you have made up your mind already (I find the main problem with people is they decide before reading, seeing, or playing entertainment) it is done well enough to gather the main three characters have known each other a while. They discover a new threat of organic creatures that takes humans one night and enlist the advice of JD Fenix's father, Marcus. And the 4 are off after JD gives Marcus a piece of evidence that peaks his interest.
    These new enemies, labeled swarm by Del (he comes up with most of the monikers for enemies) are similar to the good ole Locust Gears fans know only in the form of Drones. But Juvies which make wretches seem like an annoying fly are trouble. Extremely quick in side to side movement and agile so any surface can be traversed, these swarm and are very challenging to get a bead on with a weapon. Letting them in close for shotty blasts is the default strategy but playing on Hardcore at least, one needs to be careful as overwhelmed comes quickly after letting one in close.
    Pouncers are my new love/hate enemy. The creature shown in the very first footage from E3 2015, it shoots organic quills from its tail, has a tough, bullet resistant hide so it will soak up much damage. The name comes from its penchant for pouncing on a player and causing fast damage.
    Not looking to spoil all enemies to be faced, it is essentially still Gears. The movement additions like grabbing an opponent out of cover are very small button windows and getting caught reaching over cover to not make the grab leaves one very exposed. It has been my death a couple of times. The mantle kick or mantling in general is great because I no longer MUST slam up to cover and then mantle over. I can be full roadie sprinting and press B and not break stride which is a nice new addition. The Gears gameplay loop is the best TPS (Uncharted is fun but no, it doesn't match up in strictly TPS gameplay) imo. If you're tired of its gameplay then it isn't for you. Do not expect a totally mind blowing NEW experience. But if you like Gears, and that includes the tightest and most competitive TPS online, then this is for you.    … Expand

    Brilliant game. Maps, art, Sense of 3D environment is well done. Weapon balance is different and successful. Riotous carnage, looks great and sounds great on standard xbox one. Great job!

    Cover system works perfect, the new additions (grab a kill, etc). transitions from the old character to the new ones is really well done, the music and voice acting is great.

    I just finished the campaign and I love it. It was incredibly fun to play through. Since it is my first Gears of War game, I played through it on normal difficulty so I could get warmed up to the style of gameplay. As a new player to the franchise, this difficulty presented just enough of a challenge that it was not easy but also not so challenging to the point of frustration at gettingI just finished the campaign and I love it.     This is defiantly my now favorite gears of war game. Campaign may be a tad short (10 hours on hardcore) but is delivers extremely well. Horde mode is way better than the last one, took a bit to get used to the class system but it makes it more team based. And MP is and as good as ever, I like almost ever single map

The last time I played Gear of War was Christmas of 2006( thankful my parents didn't mind getting me 'M' rated games at the age of 15) and it was my favourite 3rd-person shooter that I had ever played.

    It's been close to 10 years now and I angrily waited as it took an hour from the moment I put the disc in the slot until I was able to boot up the game (Still think this is the dumbest thing about current gen consoles. Why on earth can't I pop a disc in and play immediately?) I selected the campaign and chose the 'hardcore' difficulty because sometimes a game can be less fun if it's not a challenge (remember; games were created to provide a challenge) The initial cut-scene rolls and I'm hooked right away. I am transported right back to how I felt 10 years ago watching the first cut-scene. The campaign is superb and has plenty of memorable moments that will stand out among many other shooters today. Horde mode is something I can't touch base on because I have never played and don't know what it can be compared to, but I can tell you that it is fun as hell.

    The real stand out for me though is the multiplayer. There hasn't been a good competitive 3rd person shooter since the first GoW in my opinion. The multiplayer feels just like it did except much more polished with better weapon balances and map design. I will be spending much of my winter bouncing between this and Battlefield 1 for all my shooter needs.

    TL;DR
    If you loved the first Gears of War than buy the game. It is a refreshing experience in an over-saturated market of shooters. This one stands out among the crowd and will serve you with a lot of joy from The Coalition and Microsoft.    … Expand

    This is an amazing game. Great story line and graphics. Great multiplayer which brings countless hours of fun after the main story is complete. It is easy to get lost in the horde mode and spend hours playing it. Anyone who is rating this game a zero is completely illogical and is either blind or mentally deficient. This is one of the best if not the best xbox one game released to date.

It's magnificent. 11gb day one patch aside (which was annoying), I managed to pump in about 10 hours since yesterday already (not counting the time I played in beta and early access). The single player is solid, with some great set pieces and great characters, but the multiplayer is where it's at.     4. I don't like the microtransactions. I much preferred grinding through the game and earning my characters as opposed to it being left to chance.

    5. 5 placement matches simply do not compile enough data to be accurately placed into a division. If your team sucks for 1 game, you're getting at best 80%

    6. Very little added content to multiplayer. Other than the addition of the grabbing and mantle kicking and countering system (which honestly is pretty useless online) it feels very familiar with different guns and maps

    7. The maps are not conducive to many types of play (But make no mistake, there is endless camping). There are way too many open corridors which allow nearly anyone anywhere on the map to respond to an enemy which results in an absolute mess of a game that feels more like a Call of Duty game, and not Gears of War. Considering the tight quarters, constant corners, and hiding spots, it is very obvious this game was designed with the idea that the only gun people should ever use is the gnasher.

    8. Horde mode to 50 wave classical feel with classes. I didn't like them back in Judgment, I don't like them here as I feel it is very restrictive and makes for some very rigid, uninteresting, and ultimately predictable gameplay.

    9. The Gnasher feels stupidly powerful and can now constantly land headshots even from a distance. There is no real reason to use any other gun other than the gnasher.

    This game the shattered body of a once excellent franchise. Please let it die.    … Expand

    The Coalition, welcome to the xbox family. They have truly earned their place with Gears 4. I personally think this is the best title in the franchise. The graphics, story, and mechanics have improved so much that it almost feels like a new franchise. Not only is the campaign amazing (with couch and online Co-Op), Horde 3.0 and multiplayer are also the best in the series and I cannot wait to see the new maps. At $60 this game is great value. it comes with all the multiplayer maps, as they are rotated in throughout the season. the season pass gives you visual and gun packs similar to those in halo 5 and the ability to use all maps in a private match.     Game of the year for sure, tied with Forza Horzion 3.

    Incredible campaign so far, the visuals, sounds, storytelling and gameplay makes you want to play 24 hours a day. IGN rated this a 9.2/10, which is better than Uncharted 4.

    Xbox has done it again with a masterpiece.

    Buena historia, continua bien parecido al gears of war 3, y deja con muchas incognitas para los siguientes Gears of War, buenos graficos, bien fluido, hasta en pantalla dividida, recomiendo jugar esta saga desde el Jugdment al 4 :3!

    Great game. Gears of War is back, After Forza Microsoft give us another great game. Theres is no better place to play actually. For me GOW is the game of the year Well Dobe !!!

    The 4th Installment of the Gears of War franchise is the most gorgeous console game I've seen to date. I really like the level design and the combat is fantastic. Best 3rd person action game I've played this generation hands down

    You want to play a gears of war? This is a gears of war, like the original trilogy, and the performance is perfect in Windows 10! BTW: the online works perfect ;)

    Haven't had a chance to play (yet, still waiting on Amazon to ship it), but given the amount of 0s this game has from Sony fanboys, I think it deserves a 10. Super hyped, and can't wait!

    one of the best games i,ve played on xbox one, the campaign is awesome, multiplayer and new weapons too, i,ve played all the gears of war games, and this is no exception o the quality they offer, like the first 3 games on the franchise, personally i didn't like judgement, but this game is a very fun game and looks gorgeous

    When it comes to console exclusives there is going to be a lot of biased reviews. In no way does this game deserve a 0 but it also doesn't deserve a 10.
    Technical difficulties- My game did crash and freeze a couple times but it wasn't too big of a deal

I didn't feel emotionally invested in the characters like I did in Gears of War 1 and 2. I also thought there were too many wave/turret defense scenarios.
    Graphically- the game looks phenomenal and that's all I really need to say about that.
    Horde 3.0- great new additions to horde, I wasn't all that hyped for horde but it is pretty fun.
    Multiplayer- its great as always. The movement feels very smooth and much better in this game. The new weapons and game modes are great. I like that there are a lot more weapon skins and character skins to choose from. The hit detection has sometimes been a problem in past games but it feels like its pretty good in this game.

    Overall- 8.2 out of 10.
    Id recommend this game. If it wasn't for the disappointing campaign I would probably give this game a 9 out of 10. Multiplayer and Horde definitely make up for the campaigns shortcomings and its one of the best looking games out there.    … Expand

    um dos melhores jogos da história, assim como uma das maiores sagas, esse jogo é um presente para os fãs, os sonystas deveriam passar menos vergonha e deixar de ficar dando notinhas baixas para os jogos, mas nao apaga o brilho dessa franquia.

    The Coalition has managed to successfully bring every great elements from previous games into a new setting. Whether you go for single-player, multiplayer or horde mode, GoW4 hast plenty to offer. The visuals are stunning and the gameplay is the best in the series thus far; and despite shortcomings in the story and development of characters, GoW4 is easily one of the best third-person shooters of this generation.
