    This was absolute garbage. I refunded this the next day. Boring story, dull gameplay, everything seems a bit uninspired. It looks great, but great visuals these days just doesn't cut it anymore.

    Worse than Judgment here's why:

    1. Short campaign. Only about 5 hours. 2. No really outstanding moments in the campaign like fighting the berserker or the Brumak or seeing Kim get impaled or killing General Raam. There's just not much to do except a motorcycle segment that feels really familiar (Gears of War 2 Skorge chase remember?) 3. Why would they remove beast mode? 4. I    Worse than Judgment here's why:

    1. Short campaign. Only about 5 hours.

    4. I don't like the microtransactions. I much preferred grinding through the game and earning my characters as opposed to it being left to chance.

    5. 5 placement matches simply do not compile enough data to be accurately placed into a division. If your team sucks for 1 game, you're getting at best 80%

    6. Very little added content to multiplayer. Other than the addition of the grabbing and mantle kicking and countering system (which honestly is pretty useless online) it feels very familiar with different guns and maps

    7. The maps are not conducive to many types of play (But make no mistake, there is endless camping). There are way too many open corridors which allow nearly anyone anywhere on the map to respond to an enemy which results in an absolute mess of a game that feels more like a Call of Duty game, and not Gears of War. Considering the tight quarters, constant corners, and hiding spots, it is very obvious this game was designed with the idea that the only gun people should ever use is the gnasher.

    8. Horde mode to 50 wave classical feel with classes. I didn't like them back in Judgment, I don't like them here as I feel it is very restrictive and makes for some very rigid, uninteresting, and ultimately predictable gameplay.

    9. The Gnasher feels stupidly powerful and can now constantly land headshots even from a distance. There is no real reason to use any other gun other than the gnasher.

    This game the shattered body of a once excellent franchise. Please let it die.    … Expand

    Yawwwwnnnn this is just the sames rehashed boring cover shooter we've been playing for years, if you have played the first 2 dont bother and save your money and buy something unique.

    Loot-boxes made it to my favorite series.I can't play successfully in the Horde without pumped legendary skills,the problem is that such maps fall is extremely rare.This notorious system of loot-boxes prevents me to fully enjoy the game mode Horde

    The RNG micro transactions in this game take all the fun out of multiplayer. I cant think of the words to describe how stabbed in the back this game makes me feel. I've played Gears 1,2,3,J & U. They were all better games than this. This games story is boring and is lacking grit. Gears 3 had the best multiplayer experience and progression system.     Game is unplayable 1 year after launch. Not to mention you can hardly find a match anymore because all the devs (TC) care about are making $$ on weapon skins and characters rather than improving the game. The servers are terrible and laggy after the QoS update. The game gets worse with every update.

    What a disappointment this game really is just more of the same old tired Gears gameplay, uninspired single player that is incredibly short at 6-7hrs. Multiplayer is fine again very much the same as before (Which was always good,) however there is microtransactions (cosmetic items) which personally I feel have no place in a full price AAA title.

This causes players like me, who used rifles in gears 3, to be at so much of a disadvantage that we are forced to use the same weapons and tactics as everyone else.     This is a poor game overall, boring story, stupid and repetitive gameplay. No point of playing it. You can get the same quality by playing any other Xbox exlusive. Take notes from sony.

    Worst Gears game to date by far. Lackluster campaign, glitchy horde mode and absolutely terrible multiplayer servers and weapon tuning. It's sad what Microsoft and "The Coalition" have done to my favorite franchise. They seem more focused on squeezing money from fans than pleasing them! Content over quality is BS!

    Pure trash, going through the campaign is boring beyond imagination and I really think it’s due to lack of imagination, All you hear is more of this and more of that and its virtually the same bunch hiding at every corner coming at you guns blazing, pointless shooter that left a bad taste for a famous franchise.

    I played the other 3 games and they were pretty good, not my favorite but I didn't feel like I was ripped off or wasted my money quite like I did for gears of war 4.

    What little campaign you get is short and its hard to be interested. You go from one vague mission to the next without much drive or interest in it but its linear so what are you going to do?     I ended up getting the ultimate edition on Xbox live because my toddler purchased it while I was in
    the other room and Xbox live doesn't do refunds, and I have to tell you for those people who willingly paid $100 for a 4-5 hour campaign I am sure they are even more pissed than I am.

    They say this game cost $100 million to make, and I find that hard to believe as a software developer and wonder if the company who made this should be allow to make another game after this.    … Expand

    My friends and I got this game for one thing: horde. We played both Gears 2 and 3 for many, many hours in horde and had a blast. Sadly, I can't say the same for Gears 4. And it's not just horde that suffers from a lack of ingenuity and fun, but also versus and campaign.

    At first, horde was fun enough. We had classes, we had some new maps, and it was a new Gears. But the problem is a    My friends and I got this game for one thing: horde. And it's not just horde that suffers from a lack of ingenuity and fun, but also versus and campaign.

    At first, horde was fun enough. We had classes, we had some new maps, and it was a new Gears. But the problem is a core tenant in the new Gears design: microtransactions. Horde is all about the grind of finding cards and leveling up, and you do it all through microtransactions. I won't go into much detail, but their microtransactions are terribly setup: you pay credits for a loot box that gives you a chance of discovering a useful card. It's a lotto system through and through, and it sucks.

    These days, at best it's more of a chore to play Horde. The team that took over the Gears franchise are very amateur, there's been multiple game breaking bugs, broken skins, skeezy microtransactions, and false marketing from them to ruin the franchise. I won't get into all the details, but I suggest if you really need to play another Gears, get it on sale or used. It's not worth $60.

    Overall, if you're a fan of the series, the game barely edges out Judgment and it's well below the trilogy (1, 2, 3). If you're new to the series, I wouldn't bother.    … Expand

    Gears of War 4 is the second to worst Gears game there is (Judgement is the worst). The story and multiplayer components are so generic and boring. The fun of the Gears franchise has been completely stripped and replaced with a massive, dull, grind-fest. Do yourself a favor and skip this if you have it in your backlog.

    The story is nonexistent, half the game feels like prologue, then some lame chasing the rabbit intermission and then you're through. You never progressed anywhere with the alien or robot threat.
    Half the gunplay is terrible because there's little hit feedback, enemies are generally spongy unless you play on Casual, the    I have no idea how people even managed to go up to a 7 on this.
    The story is nonexistent, half the game feels like prologue, then some lame chasing the rabbit intermission and then you're through. You never progressed anywhere with the alien or robot threat.
    Half the gunplay is terrible because there's little hit feedback, enemies are generally spongy unless you play on Casual, the fabricator is a sad gimmick that was quickly thrown together, you use the same weapons throughout most of the game because most heavy weapons that aren't terrible are quickly discarded by the game.
    The AI is atrocious and more hindrance than help. The one-liners are generally very dumb, but that seems to be the target audience.
    The performance is fine most of the game, cutscenes come in choppy 30 fps while the rest easily goes 60. The game has 2, maybe 3 tile sets, but somehow comes with 130GiB that I have no idea how they filled, every damn shooter with more gameplay, more world, more characters, more sounds, items etc is 20% the size.
    Few crashes, but even having them after this time is a sad state of affairs.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played previous gears games and decided to catch up before 5 came out and actually finish 4. I am very disappointed. This game introduces anything new in terms of game play, the same clunky controls that were considered great in 2007 are not that great now. The biggest thing I hate in GOW series is the fact that running locks you into only going forward. This is a horrible mechanic and should have evolved as the games came out over the years. But what made gears great in the past was it's story, now though we are treated to an absolute lame story where you fight robots and then the drones from previous games. NOTHING has changed, same area to area combat until you get to a boss where you shoot a glowing body part until it is dead. The scale of the war has been scaled down so there are hardly any epic moments in the game.

    +Co-op

    - NO horde offline single play mode
    - old controls, old gameplay
    - boring story
    - Lame ending
    - New characters are have no charisma and act like modern day millennials. I expected more!

    I'll start off with the pros. The game itself had great graphics, it was a beautiful game at most points, however due to the original XBOX power, it did stutter at points. The gameplay was reasonably fluid, and nice to control. However... at some points when I wanted to simply move to another placed or crouch there was so many things the A button did that the character I was controllingI'll start off with the pros. However... at some points when I wanted to simply move to another placed or crouch there was so many things the A button did that the character I was controlling was going to the wrong places and doing the wrong things, moreover simply jumping over a hurdle felt arduous and clunky. Also, at some points in the game graphics were so textured I could see the pixels... a cheap way of increasing FPS. With this being said there were a reasonable amount of stuff to unlock for multiplayer and skins, however I never felt rewarded as the multiplayer had limited maps and they all felt extremely similar to the other ones, which after a while completely put me off the multiplayer.

    The new tower defense sort of implementation with hordes of enemies charging you down while you spray at them with your allies, was fun, and a welcome aspect to the game. However they were ultimately the same with different places they were set in, and felt unfinished when I was playing them. The story was reasonably interesting however apart from nostalgia of a former character in the franchise I never felt connected to any of the characters and felt very similar to a lot of other characters in other games, thus making the story lack luster. However with some nicely put together set pieces, is the only thing that boosts the score a little bit.

    Overall the games singleplayer shooting aspect I would say is it's best aspect, making progress through hordes of enemies, keeping it at it's routes at what a gears of war game is, with interesting and huge bosses, I felt the bosses were a little easier in this game, never with a real challenge, especially after chasing after them for most of the campaign. If you're a fan of shooters, this is a good game, however if you're looking for an engaging story, it can be found elsewhere.    … Expand

    I'm not just disappointed with this game, I struck with how much I feel ripped off.

    The story and character development is cheap, the multiplayer doesn't offer anything new or exciting, the horde mode is inaccessible for offline users, and the weapons are complete downgrades.

    This game is an official nail in the coffin for this franchise to me.

This is all coming from someone that has every diamond skin and even the diamond gear. I even bought 4 black steel characters for 10 dollars each.     The story is inscrutable unless you've read the books, comics, or something. I played the first 3 games and had no idea what was going on...at all. The combat is GoW level good, but the lack of direction just makes it a boring, paint-by-numbers shooting game with little pay off.

    Um dos piores Gears de sempre, a historia e o final são patéticos. É legal pra se divertir e passar a saudades do estilo de jogo, mas se você esperando uma historia interessante, esquece.

    Dificultad artificial la cual se basa en enemigos esponjas de daño en espacios cerrados mientras te atacan enemigos aleatorios (esto refiriendome a la maxima dificultar)
    El modo horda es bueno, pero los enemigos siguen siendo mas que algo que debes planear como enfrentar solo esponjas de daño las cuales se limitan a estar parados disparando directamente confaidos en que ganaran ya que    Dificultad artificial la cual se basa en enemigos esponjas de daño en espacios cerrados mientras te atacan enemigos aleatorios (esto refiriendome a la maxima dificultar)
    El modo horda es bueno, pero los enemigos siguen siendo mas que algo que debes planear como enfrentar solo esponjas de daño las cuales se limitan a estar parados disparando directamente confaidos en que ganaran ya que recisten hasta 12 segundos de daño consecutivo sin parar.
    La unca "tactica" que te incentiva a cambiar de cobertura como en anteriores entregas de la saga es que los enemigos se lanzan cual Kamikase hacia ti resistiendo todo el daño para luego eliminarte de un solo golpe, todo esto un tiempo aproximado de 0.5 a 3 segundos, siendo una jugabilidad injusta a menos de que lo juegues en las minimas dificultades.
    Teniendo mas protagonismo la suerte de que las balas no te den a tu capacidad para resolver problemas en situaciones apremiantes.

    Por otro lado los protagonistas carecen de alma o carisma a especion de un par de secundarios, y el diseño de los enemigos es muy bueno visualmente, pero esto no puede zolapar el pesimo gameplay que han creado.    … Expand

    Definitiv der schlechteste gears of war teil Die Steuerung war selbst im ersten Teil besser Die Charaktere geben cringes gelaber von sich und die Gegner nerven wo sie nur können

    The Coalition has managed to successfully bring every great elements from previous games into a new setting. Whether you go for single-player, multiplayer or horde mode, GoW4 hast plenty to offer. The visuals are stunning and the gameplay is the best in the series thus far; and despite shortcomings in the story and development of characters, GoW4 is easily one of the best third-person shooters of this generation.

    The Coalition’s development team did a fantastic job adopting the Gears of War series. They’ve preserved what makes it special in our hearts and added in new bells and whistles which are absolutely welcome.
