It needs a 14 GB patch? What is wrong with you, Microsoft? And if I don't download this patch, I only get to use half of the game's tracks and cars? I'm sorry, but if I buy a game on disc, I should at least get the entire game without the need for excessive updates that are unobtainable for the level of internet service available for where I live.

Oh, and, by the way, the half of the game I did play wasn't much fun. Apparently, the developers think that we are so horrible at racing these days that we deserve a bronze medal ... for finishing in 10th place! And you get gold for 3rd! And if you do win, you still only get gold! Also, who has ever heard of a championship without a points system? How can any simulation racing game be enjoyable under these conditions?

At least the graphics are amazing. But don't buy an Xbox One just for this. Play "Gran Turismo 6" for PS3 instead.

Right from the first official trailer, I had concerns about Forza 5. Action shots of supercars power drifting around a wide open street with lens flare popping through an attractive city scape...throw in some sirens and you got yourself a great looking Need For Speed trailer. I thought to myself, is this really the direction Forza is going?

Consider the recent past, Forza 4 had fantastic content and really picked up from the misstep of Forza 3. It also was a perfect juxtaposition to Gran Turismo 5. Forza was quick to award you cars, credits, and give you part discounts so you could quickly do what you wanted, modify your cars and race them without a GT5-like-credit-grind. But with Forza 5, be prepared to grind it out or buy an XP booster.

But there was DLC for Forza 4, a car pack almost everyone month, albeit steeply priced. I let it slide because, for the first time, tracks could be part of the DLC and that is a fantastic way to breathe life into a racing game. I had my fingers crossed for Spa, Brands Hatch, or maybe even Watkins Glen. Despite there being a menu in the store for tracks, none came, and once Forza Horizon was announced, all DLC development for Forza 4 stopped and was directed to that game instead. So here is Forza 5 with Day 1 DLC...that's an oxymoron, and consideing how much content is absent at launch, it's scary to think how much it will all cost. I gave them +$120 for Forza 4 LCE and a Season pass, I'm not doing that again.

Some of the most fun I have had in the Forza series is tossing around a race car from the American Le Mans series. Watch a real race and you'll see Forza Motorsport sponsorship everywhere. And in these races, you watching multiple classes of cars race around the track for hours, stopping for fuel, changing tires, adapting to weather conditions, racing into the night, etc. All in a motorsport SPONSORED by FORZA....a series that has NONE of that.

Forza 2 is why I bought a 360 Elite and a wheel, and the following Forza 3 and 4 are the only reasons I kept it. But here are the reasons I will not buy an Xbox for Forza 5:

    1. The exclusion of Maple Valley, Infenion, Nordschleife Nurburgring, and Suzuka.
    2. The introduction of credit grinding to unlock cars, enticing racers to purchase XP boosters or buy the cars outright.
    3. The inevitable onslaught of expensive DLC content.
    4. No practice mode to test out the cars you want to buy on any track.
    5. No weather or night driving.
    6. No endurance racing or proper multi-class racinng.

Maybe Forza 6 will deliver in spades, but I'm not buying an Xbox until I see it.

Meanwhile, for those with PC compatible wheels, check out iRacing for genuine online racing, or Assetto Corsa (beta) for the best tire modeling and drifting out there, or drool like everyone else with anticipation for Project CARS.

    - Nice graphics (although it's just FM4 all over again imo) and Forzavista.
    - Cars sounds are nice and throaty.
    - Top Gear challenges are very fun.

    Bad:
    - No change in physics at all from FM4, still way too little lateral grip above 50 km/h and exaggerated oversteer everywhere.
    - Still no weather and time changes where competitors have. Next-gen? Absolutely not.
    - No auction house anymore.
    - Still races are 2-3 laps. Why would you race any longer anyway? It's not like it's a driving/racing game...ahum.

Absolutely a kick in the nuts and utterly disrespectful towards the fan base:
    - An extremely limited car list of only 200 rides. Prepare to race against a field of 16 opponents in which there are only 6-8 unique cars. This has 'repetitive' written all over it.
    - Fourteen tracks...seriously? Forza 4 had 26(!) tracks. And worst of all, NO NORDSCHLEIFE anymore. This game is clearly not intended for motoring enthusiasts. Combine this with the maximum of 3 laps....it's fully understandable that the reviewer thinks the game is repetitive.
    - All previous steering wheels are not supported. INCLUDING THE 500$ FANATEC CSR, which was the Forza Motorsport 5 official wheel. You like more immersion? Why don't you just spend another 500$ because Turn 10 does not care about its customers at all. Utterly unacceptable.
    - And of course, other content is purposely held back and DLC passes are ready for you at 50$, so you can spend even more money. They aren't even embarassed of themselves announcing it from the start. Sure, why not, as surely a lot of fans will swallow it all.

And the lack of content means a higher quality? Other than the nice visuals in Forzavista, the actual racing graphics look almost like GT6 on the ancient PS3. Not next-gen worthy at all. The cars/tracks were supposedly built from the ground up according to T10? Lies.
"So, not all of our tracks are laser-scanned but most are. Some of them are pretty up to date with our old methodology, but we still wanted to update them so we went back to the old reference where we'd captured new reference so we could reskin, add the deformation, add the imperfections. But tracks like Silverstone were completely rescanned. Obviously new tracks like Bathurst and Spa [Francorchamps] and Yas Marina, these were laser-scanned with the new rig."
Not to mention that the lighting still is miles off...look at the static shadows beneath each and every car.

But most importantly of all, gamers have to spend 500 dollars for the Xbox One, 60 for the game, maybe another few hundreds for a new steering wheel (400$ for the Madcatz, 500$ for the Fanatec) and another 50$ for the DLC to have the slightest slice of the content that Forza 4 offered immediately at launch. A thousand dollars just to play a game in which almost all good features and content has been removed in comparison with all of today's racing games. Heck, even the older Forzas were much more complete than this unfinished product. This is nothing else than disgraceful.

Why would anyone shell out this amount of money for a game that is no improvement at all from Forza 4 in some aspects and massively worse than it in most others? I'm oblivious that so many people are still willing to take in all of the horrible decisions that Turn 10 has made. But I guess some are just not critical enough at all and are willing to spend it anyway on an inferior product of which the quality has been compromised to another new all-time-low level, just to have a 'next-gen' title on the shelf.

To me, Turn 10 really has released a pathetic product.

Everything you know and love about the series is back and more beautiful than ever. Players race their cars on a wide variety of courses and locations, earning credits to upgrade your car or purchase new ones.

The circuits are groups of races you will compete in to earn credits and xp. Circuits can average between 5 to 12 races, with most races somewhere between 3 to 7 minutes in length. Forza 5 doesn’t require you to come in first to receive gold on a race, simply finishing in a respectable place based on your skill level will earn you big rewards. This system works very well to incentivize racers to try and beat tougher opponents while still rewarding your efforts.

Forza 5 doesn’t make the you suffer through hours and hours of gameplay to earn the beautiful fantasy cars that everyone wants to drive. If you play 2-3 circuits with your starter car without spending many of the credits you earn, you can easily afford one of the nicer cars after just a few hours of gameplay. The free play mode also let’s you “rent” any car in the game, though you won’t earn any xp or credits by driving cars you do not own in the career mode.

How do you ruin a great game like Forza 4? Introduce Horizon followed by a pickpocket experience such as FM5. More money, less cars, less tracks, less flexibility and no legacy peripheral support. Got a Fanatec wheel? Now it's a conversation piece. It's cheaper for me to buy a PS3, a Logitech G27 and GT5/6 than a new Xbox, wheel and game to expand my experience.

As it currently sits I rate this game 8.5/10, but it has potential to be truly amazing.

The good. The cars that are included are stunning in detail. I’ll gladly take the 200-ish cars included at this quality than the larger number included in Forza 4 that were of far inferior quality. Physics wise Forza 5 is outstanding. I own a fun sports car, that I race, and driving the same car in the game is remarkably similar to reality, closer than any other racer I’ve played on a console. The computer AI drivatar systems works exceptionally well, so well that solo Career races feel more like online multiplayer. The sound is amazing, hearing cars next to you with a surround sound system is magical. Rumble triggers are a neat addition to help with getting the correct brake point when ABS is turned off. Integration of the Rivals mode to each and every event is fantastic. Mt. Panorama, Spa and Prague are great track additions, all of which are treats to drive. The game searches for a multiplayer lobby while you’re doing other things like Career races, car tuning etc and then informs you when a lobby has been found and available to join. Each of the cars has more character than even previous Forza games. It makes each car a joy to purchase, tune and race.

The bad. No weather. Lack of cool tracks from Forza 4 is a bummer. Turn 10 why on earth is the sun always shining in my eyes? Turn 10 why is there no way to see what the restrictions for Career races is come on!?!? I’m sad some of my favourite tracks weren’t included. It’s going to take some serious game play to be able to purchase some of the open wheel race cars. Forza 5 certainly isn’t perfect.

Conclusion. This is a fantastic game if you love cars. Don’t listen to the reviews that had me worried from folks who haven’t even played this game. Simply put I’m really happy I didn’t listen to the bulk of reviews on here, and bought Forza 5. I won’t be playing any other racing games any time soon.

The game also finds cool ways to capitalize on the haptic-feedback in the Xbox One controller to give you a more unique rumble feel when you experience over-steer as opposed to an all-out smashing against a wall. These little things make Forza 5 a good game, including tracks and commentary from the fantastic hosts of BBC's Top Gear. While that's all fantastic, Forza also still feels much like its predecessors at the same time. To that end, it isn't really a must have for much reason other than having it to showcase some of the best visuals the Xbox One has to offer (and perhaps even trumping much of what the PS4 can offer right now). Is it a must-have? Maybe not, but if you gotta have a racing sim, Forza 5 is an easy recommendation. Expand

The same three shots of the post-race car from the exact same angle make me wonder if the devs on this ran out of ideas.

From the beginning it is really easy to beat the drivatars since they are automatically set to an easy difficulty. Increasing the difficulty will add to the challenge and increase your XP gains.

The only negative at this point is the track selection. It seems small, and after a while it gets repetitive and dull.

This is what happens when you get whipped by Microsoft to get the game out asap.

    No cars,
    No tracks
    No addition to physics,
    Graphics look pathetic,
    Drivatar is so broken,
    Cloud gaming my ass,
DLC costs more than to rent these cars in real life.

I'm a huge fan of the Forza series, played hundreds of hours on Forza 4. If you're into driving games, avoid this. Avoid it like a mofo.

What they should have done is added more content and more interesting game modes. Also I have had trouble getting the online to work even months after release. All in all this game is a major disappointment I just hope that horizon 2 doesn't disappoint me this much or I may never buy another Forza game. Expand

This franchise has been going downhill since Forza 3. Paywalls everywhere you go in this game. Career mode is so boring. Not nearly enough base tracks, and not nearly enough cars.

I have been a GT and Forza loyalist since both series inception. I have to say first although I completely understand the reasons it sucks that this title is launching with a reduced car garage and track list. However this is due to Turn 10 wanted to raise the level of quality for each, something their direct competition has opted not to do (meaning the 800+ cars GranTurismo uses from both PS1 and PS2 editions of it's game). That being said Forza 5 just feels AMAZING to drive! And the new Drivatar feature for AI is INCREDIBLE! It actually feels like you are racing real human competition, I never thought I would experience that feeling so soon (maybe 10 to 15 years away for A.I that real). The cars and tracks look AMAZING they drive AMAZINGLY realistic and with all aids off now the game plays like a true PC sim (of which I play all of). Like I said I was like many of you disappointed with the omissions this game had but after actually playing it over the weekend and re-learning the driving style (as the last two Forza Motorsports game we relatively similar although Forza 4 had made large strides in realism over 3) I have to say I can't wait to start the next race. The controller is great with the game as well although sitting and staring at my CSR-Elite wheel, shifter and pedals makes me sad as I can tell as great as this game plays with the controller the wheel/pedal setup would really make it shine! Please don't listen to the negativity. If you want what is easily the best racing experience on console (and dare I now say PC) you owe it to yourself to give Forza Motorsport 5 a thorough test drive. but this time they really have screwed us.

they have abused the fact that people are prepared to prepay for a game they really know nothing about,
I'll start off with the good as it is far shorter than the bad.

    Good:
    1. The graphics are unbelievably good.
    2. The handling characteristics of the cars is fantastic (as usual for forza)
    3. The new tracks they have introduced are fantastic.

    Bad:
    1. The menu's and painting of the cars is so confusing it gives me a head ache.
    2. There are so many tracks missing which should have been there before releasing the game.
    3. There are missing cars that just 1 month later they are trying to sell to us for real money!
    4. Online there is no points system (Very difficult to run leagues!)
    5. Online despite trying to arrange people into teams the game takes over and chages what you have set.
    6. The AI, while a good idea in theory, the actual results end up with you being taken out in a bend which should not happen.

What i expected and would like to see future games:
    1. Realistic fuel usage, for example a Toyota aygo does not use the same amount of fuel as an Shelby Cobra.
    2. Realistic and online adjustabel Tyre wear (its nice to do pit stops in long races.
    3. A points system online and an ability to grid the cars accordingly depending on points
    4. Weather, Christ we now have the processors to manage it please can we have weather.
    5. Day/Night cycles.
    6. Stop trying to steal from us, ok make more cars available to buy for real money but dont make it that we cant see the car properly if we dont own the download.

All in all a steaming pile of pointlessness, stick with Forza 4 its way better with the exeption of graphics

    Ok rant over :)

I expect that they will be adding the rest of the cars which was available on Forza Motorsport 4 (nearly 400 cars to be added) through DLC in which they will be ripping the customer's wallets off with DLCs. The first 10 minutes in the game was great, but then when you progress through the Career mode after a while, it is boring and repetitive. I myself, loved the 4th installment of the franchise, leveled up to level 130, but every time you level up, they give you something in return, like if you leveled up, they give you a selection of cars to choose from, and sometimes they give you money credits for leveling up. But in Forza 5, that doesn't exist anymore, and the reason? Micro-transactions, the money ripper. I promised myself that I will never buy another Forza game until they get their sh#t together and respect their fans a little bit, not by ripping their wallets off. Expand

Forza has demonstrated itself with overwhelming graphics with high end physics. Its lack of cars makes it have its down side but exemplifies the pleasing aesthetics. Furthermore, Forza's illustrious use of using the cloud to controlled AI is innovative and a huge advantage over its competition. Also some people I've noticed complained about how expensive(in game cash) the cars are. Yeah sure they are expensive(in game cash) but whats the point of having all the cars at a low price. If you're into quality over quantity, Forza delivers.

Another note about all the crying over microtransactions. I've got maybe 10 hours of play, I have more than 7 million credits banked and I already own the F1 lotus and the La Ferrari (3 mil and 1.75 mil a piece). I've not spent one dime on microtransactions. How did I accomplish this? By turning up the difficulty and turning off the assists, I make 120% in bonus on top of winnings in every race.

An outstanding improvement to an already excellent racing franchise. It's far more than just a great racing sim, or a gorgeous showcase for the types of feats the Xbox One hardware is capable of. This is a game built on the romantic thrill of motorsport in all its forms, and that love for its subject matter is all but impossible to resist.

THIS is the stand out launch title for XBOX One. The graphics are brilliant and show off Xbox One's capability. Unlike other racing games (i.e Need for Speed), there is a huge variety of difficulties, you don't have to come in first to get the best rewards, replays look like they are from live coverage, and there is so much ability to customise your cars. I know people are upset about the fact some cars require huge amounts of credits to buy. For example, some of the higher end cars require a million credits. If you play on the easiest difficulty (easy Drivatars, turn assist, etc) and get in the top 3 you'll normally get about 5,000 credits. So it would take about 200 races to buy that car, but this is ignoring all the based modifiers and level up bonuses you'd get along the way. Taking into account leveling up bonuses starting at about 15,000 credits, and car affinity bonuses (the more you driver a car, the more credits you credits you get I think every driver affinity level is 5% extra credits) you could easily half the amount of races required. If you want it even faster, you could race harder Drivatars, and turn off a lot of the assistance the game gives to help you drive. Plus people forget your Drivatar will earn credits for you when you aren't even playing, as they earn credits for every race they've done well in other people's games. For those people that want the option to unlock cars quicker (and miss some of the fun along the way), then yes there is the totally optional store where you can either buy tokens to unlock cars, or buy DLC car packs. Regardless, the starting car is a blast to play, and all of the features to help new gamers learn to drive really help. I love the driver guide lines to help me position before turns (nothing worse than playing a driving game before you've memorised the tracks!). I also like the feedback given when you've done something well (turn, pass etc). The feedback on the controller is near perfect normally I turn feedback off as its just annoying! I know there are limited tracks, and I get the feeling they'll release new tracks with "DLC." I would have preferred they released new tracks for free considering the lack of more tracks is likely the result of rushing the game out for the launch of Xbox One. As for the complaints about lack weather, and night/evening racing, I understand the frustration when other versions of the game had some of those features. Frankly this is such a polished game, that I don't really miss those features. The core game is near flawless. I've always been disappointed by driving games (starting with Test Drive back in the '90s!), and this is the first game that hasn't disappointed. My only complaint is this game should have been included with Xbox One and not FIFA 2014 as this game really shows what the Xbox One is capable of. Expand

I love the Drivatar AI. It creates some very fun and chaotic driving situations. Computer AI is often too predictable.

Cons:The music sucks; the fewer tracks to race on hasn't bothered me a whole lot and in fact some of the new tracks are really well done. Is this a step forward for Forza? Absolutely. Should it have more? I guess...or maybe we've just been spoiled and these ratings are evidence of how ungrateful gamers can be these days.

Graphically, it's a marvel to look at, every car has such fine detail, the environment is blooms to life, however the crowds look photoshopped in. The tracks are somewhat lacking and there are a few that you continually come back to, which isn't as refreshing as I'd hoped for. Is this a bad game? HELL. NO. I'll admit it's not the best Forza, but it's the best sim racing game you can buy right now; the feel for all of the cars (all of which deserve to be in this game... well, maybe except for the beetle) is spot on, the audio for both the engine notes and the orchestral score is spectacular, the visuals blow everything else out of the water, and the tracks (albeit a roster that's pretty weak) are impressively detailed. However, its crowning achievement is the driveatar feature, which works brilliantly; you will race in-game against AI that isn't afraid to bump into you, that tries moves that might kill it, and even go looking for revenge. That alone deserves praise. On that note, keep this in mind: this is a launch game, and launch games nowadays meant to do two things: be a tech demo for a new system, and quickly get in some cash to build up support for said system. Tesla's first car was the Roadster, a sportscar that had some... tricky handling characteristics, and real world faults. They now make the Model S, a car so good that it's the first time IN A WHILE America makes something the whole world wants. So is this a great game? Probably not. Is it a good game, and the best exclusive the Xbox One has right now? Yes. Will it improve? OH yes. And most importantly, does it show that there's a better way to make a racing game instead of just throwing in as many cars as possible with pitiful audio and next to no level of detail? Damn straight it does. If you love cars, Top Gear narrations, impressive driving from both you and other players that aren't even playing at the same time as you, pick this up. But do keep an eye on your spending; Turn 10 has fixed a few things, but sign up for Forza Rewards before you roll out; a lump of in game money before you start always helps. Expand

I was able to score the game new for half price on eBay, so as far as price is concerned, my review isn't going to be colored by whether it was worth $60.

The game at is core is really good as far as racing sims go. Everyone can probably agree on that much. Everything looks great, it runs smooth, and racing against AI representations of your friends and other gamers in single player is a lot cooler than any single player experience in any past racing sim. The online is pretty good, too, and overall very fair in handing out medals and rewards just for showing up. The achievements are even pretty reasonable, mostly rewarding you for playing the game, playing the game well, and dedication. 90% of them are earned just through good ol' playing, so you won't feel pressure to do anything ridiculous to get them. You can even do the entire game with full driver assists and super easy AI if you so choose, and you could still earn gold medals. All in all, it's mostly a good game for any skill level.

Where it falls short for me is track variety. There simply aren't enough tracks. I know that Turn 10 have said that they have some complex way of adding tracks to the game to make them super realistic that takes a long time, but that's not really something the player should just shrug and look past in scoring the game. For whatever reason there can be for having a smaller number of tracks, it's still going to be a negative, and it is.

The other issue people complain about that's not such a big deal to me is the number of cars or microtransactions. I'm never going to buy a DLC car as those cars simply are not better than what you can buy normally. Honestly, most people are just mad about this in theory. Looking at the stats for the game with regard to achievements and such things. 99% of gamers never get even close to being able to afford all the cars in these games anyway, so what does it matter if you could buy 200 or 1000? At the end of the day you'll only end up actually buying like 20 cars either way. There simply aren't enough credits to buy them all unless you dedicate months to Forza!

GRAPHICS(10): Simply incredible, Forza shines in every way when it comes to graphics. The cars, the tracks...everything is beautiful.
PRESENTATION(6): This is the weakness of Forza 5. While the way your races are set up are ok, the menus you use to race are terrible. The same format that has been used by racing games for years is used here. Static menus where a certain car will qualify you for a race. However, there is no sense of progression, no sense of stiffer challenges as you go along. It just sucks. The racing itself is great, but the overall experience is just old and stale.
GAMEPLAY(10); Forza's gameplay is second to none for a racing game. Everything is completely customizable.
CONTROL: (10): Again, completely customizable. Each individual car feels unique.
FUN(9): Despite it's two flaws: a small number of tracks and a stale season mode, Forza 5 is still a lot of fun. I've had it for almost a month and I'm still racing.
OVERALL(8): Ultimately, Forza 5 is still a really good title, but it's look of an exciting season mode and the lack of track variety keep it from being great. If those 2 issues are addressed in Forza 6, then the perfect racing simulation may not be far away.
