    This review is coming from someone who loved Forza 2-4, and purchased all the dlc for the 3 and 4. Forza 4 is probably my favorite console game of it's generation.

    Forza 5 looks pretty good and sounds great, it is a lot of fun while it lasts. The problem is, it lacking in content and replayablility.

    1/2 the tracks and 1/3 or the cars as Forza 4, and the paid day one dlc available in the marketplace is almost all recycled and updated cars from 4. 60 car dlc pass costs $50, versus $30 in Forza 4. Many models exhibit the same inaccuracies as in Forza 2/3/4, so the mistakes were carried over and assets reused.

    The biggest downside to Forza 5 is you get constantly prompted to use "tokens" to purchase things in game, which you of course buy for real Prompted before and after each race to purchase double xp, and prompted before purchasing anything using your in game earned through races. I hate seeing free to play game mechanics in Forza, this is a $60 AAA title, not a facebook/phone game.

    You no longer win cars when completing series, cars can't be sold back to the game like in previous installments, and the user to user auction house is gone as well. Once you buy a car, it is yours unless you want to delete for no credits. The game was designed to get players to buy as many cars as possible using real lie money instead of in game credits.

    In addition, the Limited collectors edition offered gamers "1,250 tokens(9.99 value) that will allow Limited Edition owners instant access to any car in the game." Only problem is that some cars in the game cost 10,000 tokens.

    Overall, this is a step back far the Forza franchise. While it's a definite visual improvement over 4 and is fun to play, the limited content and constant money grubbing really sours the experience for Forza fans. I'd encourage anyone who wants to play it to not buy any dlc and purchase the game used, so the studio is not rewarded for the dlc/microtransaction push and has to reconsider for their next release.

    Turn 10 and Microsoft are charging $60 $80 for Forza 5, depending on the version you get. However, despite the full price tag, they are treating this like a "free-to-play" game. As it aggressively pushes for microtransactions.

    You might hear a lot of players say "Oh, you don't need to buy tokens!" And they're right, you don't NEED to, but the game has been designed from the ground up

    You might hear a lot of players say "Oh, you don't need to buy tokens!" And they're right, you don't NEED to, but the game has been designed from the ground up to milk extra cash out of you.

    Proof:
    - The storefront is gone
    - The auction house is gone
    - Gifting cars to your friends is gone
    - Sharing your cars in a Club is gone
    - Earning cars as level rewards is gone
    - Affinity bonuses don't get you free parts anymore
    - You can't sell cars back for money anymore
    - You can't sell parts back for money anymore

    The end result of these changes is this:
    Getting new cars is a LOT more time consuming. Earning enough money to buy and upgrade multiple exotic cars requires excessive grinding... or buying tokens of course.

    Forza 5 throws out so many of the things that made previous Forza titles great so that they can milk their loyal customers as much as possible. It's like a slap in the face to someone like me, who has been loyal to the franchise for eight whole years.

    Skip this entry. With any luck Forza 6 will avoid these downfalls.

    Good graphic

    - Bad gameplay (input lag like Need4speed: Shift1+2 Ahoi!)
    - no steering wheel works support for older steering wheels and pedals
    - Free2play functions in the game. Since I prefer to play RaceRoom Experiance (Free2play PC simulator from Simbin).

    I'm waiting for GT6

    I am so seriously tired of games in which the first thing you see when you get to play is micro-transactions and DLC. This is the last Forza game I pre-ordered. With the next one I'll just wait a few weeks for some reviews and opinions and if it's anything like this I will say my goodbyes to this series.

    All that aside everything else is fantastic. Graphics are not a massive leap over 360 but a noticeable improvement. Cars look great and sound great and are very detailed. You can have a close look at every single car with Forzavista you can get in, listen to the engine sound, look at the interior and listen to TopGear crew give you some background and history for every model. Driving is phenomenal and very intuitive. You can "feel" your car and you notice the difference when changing for a different one. One thing I did not like is the impulse triggers which is the new feature for XOne pad triggers that vibrate when you accelerate or brake. Some people like them, some don't but they drove me nuts and there is no option to turn off just the trigger vibrations so I had to disable them all together. Another thing that didn't feel right to me was music. I guess it's just my taste but orchestral and epic, action movie-like soundtrack don't belong in a driving game. There's definitely less content than in Forza 4 but it's by no means a small game. It's still huge, just not as huge as before:)
    I give it 4/10 as there's a lot of fun to be had but because of it's horrible business model I absolutely discourage people from buying it. It's really frightening that this is happening in the very first games for a brand new system. I really hope developers will reconsider their decisions, otherwise we have a dark times ahead of us where even a full price AAA titles are riddled with intrusive microtransactions.

    It's a pretty game, but it has half the content of the previous game and they expect you to pay $50 to get the rest. In my eyes this a rip-off. It's like you're paying full price for a free-to-play game.

    Far too many micro transactions and the game is now designed to make it very difficult to obtain new cars without spending extra money. Why does the game publisher have to be so greedy, instead of just letting the gamer enjoy the driving experience?

    cannot sell owned cars back to the game for credits;
    only 14 tracks included at launch (FM4 had 26);
    only 200 cars included at launch (FM4 had 483).

    ...Not only are prior features & content gone, but no advancements were made in key game-play areas, such as:

    no new tuning/upgrade options;
    no new wheels/rims;
    aerodynamic parts still not repaired during pit stops;
    still no pre-race tuning in multiplayer lobbies;
    same old repetitive/grinding achievements.

    ...And to add insult to injury:

    heavy micro-transaction promotion (almost like a free-to-play model in a full-price game);
    day-one paid DLC;
    very long loading times;
    many un-skippable narrative transition screens;
    navigation between screens/menus/areas not as user-friendly as before;
    new lighting & reflections can obscure vision of the track & nearby opponents;
    various bugs/glitches.

    ...In exchange for all that was cut from prior Forza installments, Forza 5 offers:

    better graphics;
    different driving/handling physics (questionably better or maybe worse);
    3 new real-world tracks never before available in Forza games;
    2 new fantasy tracks never before available in Forza games;
    expanded "ForzaVista" interactive showroom;
    "Drivatar" opponents that try to mimic other human players' driving;
    "Impulse triggers" that vibrate to deliver throttle & braking feedback;
    a few new built-in paint colors/patterns & more layers. ...Forza 5 seems like it took many steps backwards just to make one tiny questionable step forward. If you enjoyed Forza 4, Forza 5 may feel like a kick in the teeth: it costs the same (or more) while delivering far less. With less than half of the content variety & none of the community functionality of prior installments, Forza 5 offers little in the way of depth & replayability/longevity. Some have already dubbed it "Forza 5 Prologue" due to how incomplete it feels. ...I seem to recall some pre-launch promotional videos & interviews in which Dan Greenawalt (creative director at Turn 10) said things like: "we've been making Forza games for over 10 years & we've gotten really good at it," and "we're delivering a full game at launch." Forza 5 falls way short of these statements. Microsoft & Turn 10 were very vague & tight-lipped pre-launch about Forza 5's features, fueling pre-order hype on rumors & speculation with almost no substance to back it up. ...The ultimate driver for change in capitalism is profit, and we'll only see disappointments like this continue if consumers keep buying it. All the critical reviews in the world won't matter if there are enough sales to keep fueling such failures. As it is often said: vote with your dollars. ...(This review is based on the standard November 22, 2013 retail launch version of Forza 5 for the Microsoft Xbox One console. Some items discussed here may possibly change over time with updates/patches; if so, however, that would not excuse the game's very poor showing at launch.)

This may be a Gamestop thing, but either way it sucked. For a higher price tag, I would think the game would have more content. Of course, as the others are quick to point out, this is not the case. I can understand the lower number of tracks, as to get those as accurate as they wanted is a true challenge and a marvel of technology. Next is the car list, which is smaller, but still a lot of very nicely done cars. One thing that annoyed me was the fact that the cars were not even downloaded, and you had to download them all individually. Then I see the Bugatti, a car that I never had much of a care for, but it was also not downloaded. I try to download it, and a message pops up: "You must be part of the VIP club to get this car, please purchase the VIP membership for 20$." I spent the next minute starring at the screen, wondering if this was a joke, so I check the store page, and I find the worst thing that has ever happened to gaming. DAY ONE DLC! NOTHING is worse than Day One DLC, and Forza has an abundance of it. 20$ for a small collection of cars and access to tournaments, something that we should already have for buying the frigin game! On top of that, they already have nearly a dozen cars done and ready to buy, for several dollars each! Not even to mention the 'season pass', which is 45 more dollars! This is what is ruining gaming, even worse than DRM! We can't let more franchises fall like this, so spread the message: Day One DLC and unnecessary DLC is NOT cool! Expand

They essentially made the game "always online" even when you arent by forcing you to race with real peoples drivatars. Drivitars are basically bots that remember other peoples playstyles. This means that races are now **** of cars ramming eachother and not following the correct ways to race unless you feel like playing on the hardest difficulties way above most peoples skill level. Also, the game has a "rival" mechanic. This mechanic is completely broken as it buffs a random racer on the track to the point where no mater what place they are in, they will win and there is nothing you can do about it. Your rival will have a car that has a performance level way above yours, meaning no matter how hard you try you wont win as a class B Mazda Miata is suddenly doing 200mph down a straight away way out of your reach. It's not without its flaws, for example its not really next gen in the truest offering even though it doesn't lack any polish, it isn't offering anything spectacularly innovative in terms of gameplay but it's still really fun to play and definitely has longevity, however the flaws are nit picking because it's a game which gives you exactly what you want it you're a Forza fan and a great game if you're either a racing fan or looking for something to play.
    I am more of the Colin McRae/Micro Machines fan but Forza gives me the immersion F1 wants me to have, the racing heart Gran Turismo aspires to give and the pick up and play Wipeout once gave.
    It's fun, it's cheap and it's Forza, the franchise still isn't stale even if it needs some refreshing to be considered unmatched; you can't go wrong if you get it and when you have it hours of fun are sure to follow.
    If you're late to the Xbox One this game is worthy of your time, especially as it can be bought for less than £15.

The car count here is lowered down from the previous entry, but now it really feels like each car has its place, a reason to be here. Another thing that it lowered is the track count, and this disappointed me greatly. While playing Career a lot, I had to go through many tracks over and over again. Speaking of Career, it is jam-packed with leagues, championships, etc. . I love how each league made me drive a whole new car entirely than what I drove before. Like I said, there's a lot of content in Career, but I felt there could've been a bit more variety in all these races. However, the multiplayer mostly made up for that because there's many different modes. A particular favorite of mine is Infection. Every session of it was a good, fun time. And of course, all the cars look realistic as all-get-out. It's phenomenal. The graphics outside of that have their highs and lows, but mostly highs. You can customize your cars here very much, too, but doing so makes you dive in to a lot of menus that were tedious. Despite small flaws, Forza 5 is constantly invigorating and amazing. Expand

I think some folks focus a little too much in this comparison. This is a new game on a new system, they can't just take all the original content and 'make it look more pretty', everything had to be rebuilt. Having a game like this at console launch is quite something. But yeah, FM4 had lots of content (which was 'just' taken over from FM3), but FM6 will do the same and be double the size of FM5. Anyways, there's no need to buy anything extra in this game, only of you love, say, a certain oldsmobile, then you can buy that extra. The three additional tracks were free downloads and every now and then there's new (free) cars, so it's really not all what people make it out to be. As for the actual driving: There's no better game out there (that includes you, Forza Horizon 2) as far as 'feeling the car and the track' goes. It's really beautiful. I play FH2 a lot, I played DriveClub (which, also, ain't as bad as people say) and Gran Turismo, but nothing touches the feel of Forza 5. It plays perfectly. Graphics are good to quite good (1080p, 60fps), with the occasional blandness and the weird 2D spritey people standing next to the tracks. But yeah, it's super smooth and fast, that's what counts. Some tracks look magnificent (Prague, Switzerland), some look a bit dull (Sebring etc.) but these courses look bland in real life, too. You've never seen a better Nurburgring, though. I personally didn't like the music and had it off constantly. I prefer the sound of the engines and the surroundings anyway, but this cheap classical score was just bad. I like classical music very much, but this was just too poppy and transported a weird kind of cheap melancholy. Really poorly written. So, to those who like racing games: try it, you'll get it used for cheap. And to those who love racing games but weren't sure about this one: You'll regret nothing. It's the best racer out there and a good mix of sim and arcade. Expand

    Honestly? This game is brilliant if you loved Forza before. Fantastic physics and the handling is amazing, especially with the One's controller. This game was completely built from scratch, and had the best offering on new gen of any racers. We've now several free dlc tracks, including the Nordeschleife!

    Overall, don't believe that it is lacking in content. Turn 10 haven't carried over

To get a Farrari or mclearn you are probably looking at 200,000-300,000CD which is not really much because you get around 5,000CD a race but there are a ton of bonus' that add maybe 10-20% of the reward you get for completing a race. you also get 35,000CD overtime you get to the next driver level which happens around twice a series (1 Hour) plus there is a bonus for completing the series witch is 20,000+CD so you probably be 100,000+CD richer after the Series so the money adds up pretty fast and you can by a really nice car in no time. The only cons to this game are i think the shadows and drifting/sliding are a bit exaggerated. F.Y.I. don't buy the game at the store or from Microsoft because you can find it new on the internet like Amazon or ebay for half the price. IT IS NOT A RIPOFF, PEOPLE ARE JUST EXAGGERATING! Upon playing for a few days I began to realise that there were a lot of things missing that made other games in the series great (the auction house, hundreds of cars, tracks). I then realised that a 'token' system had been introduced meaning that if in order to get the better cars in the game you needed to either spend real world money (On top of the price of the game itself) or spend hours and hours racing to simply earn enough credits to buy a decent car.

    It seems they have gone down the route of trying to extract as much money from gamers as possible. Providing a half finished game and expecting gamers to pay for things that should be included in the initial package is day light robbery.

    I would suggest developers listen to their customers.

    Forza 5 could have been great....

    This is another next gen title that doesn't quite look as good as it should. The car selection is completely reasonable if not large. The real problem lies in the fact that there is an extremely limited number of tracks and it quickly becomes repetitive. The same tracks with 8 new cars per class.

    1- Only 14 tracks (I have a feeling that up and coming release tracks can be yours for $xx.xx)
    2- Storefront where you cab easily search for tunes, liveries, designs... Gone
    3- Payout for winning races/championships are at such a low pace, making spending extra real for pricier in-game cars an attractive option
    4- 1/3 of the cars from Forza 4
    5- On some car models, the side mirrors are still shown reverse image (same as Forza 4)
    6- After you leveled up past level 255, your online level will reset back to level 0 (same as Forza 4)
    7- When you start acquiring cars with hard-earned in game credits, be careful with your selection when you are in the dealership, because the "purchased" icon only appear when you are in your garage; making purchasing of duplicate cars very easily.
    8- You cannot sell the cars back to the game, nor can you gift them to needy friends, you can only delete them from your garage.
    9- Auction house gone, gifting of anything gone
    10- Car Clubs no longer exist

    Sighs, Turn 10 should have take the winning formula from Forza 4 and improve on that instead we got this free to play game that costs full price and a lot more (car pass/ "super car/season pass") come on now, really?

    Having owned Forza 1, 2, 3, 4, and the cash-grab Horizon, I'm going to give them 1 more chance to redeem themselves with Forza 6 or this Forza 5 maybe the very last game from this franchise that I will buy.

    Sorry for the long rant, just my opinion of course.

    If you really need to read up on the additional information prior taking the plunge, go directly to Turn 10 own forum; please be wary because their Mods are quite critical of critics and have been known to delete threads that they don't like (I guess being a "green disc'er" need to perform)

It forces you to sit through a lengthy infomercial describing the cars in a particular class by a british guy, who in real life, knows nothing about American muscle cars. It sounds dumb. And you can't skip past it. The "fade to black" screens after races seem to take ages. It forces you to watch redundant montages of your beat up car after each race. Repetitive. The opponent AI is stupid as ever, mowing down cones and obstacles on some tracks like bumper cars. The loading takes forever. The load screen of the tracks are "grey on grey" and completely still. No more rating indicators of how well you did turns or passes, just the occasional "good turn!" in words...which is stupid. Buying a new car forces you into a skin selector with skins you don't car about. Haven't discovered any way to upgrade or improve cars. The voice overs are awful and seem out of place. You get stuck on grid way in the back without ever a qualifying round. Good luck managing your way to the front. The car controls are classic Forza, so that part is still good. The rest of this franchise is completely ruined. Oh, and if you want a super exotic and rare car like a 1979 Camaro Z/28, yep, you gotta pay for that one.....This game deserves the negative reviews its gotten.... Expand

Every races ends up being about on average $6500 when you win so you would need to win 230 gold metals to afford it. (yes I know you get money for winning tournaments and leveling up I think I made my point.) You can however pay real money to unlock it right away. Yes, that is right, pay money ON TOP of the $60 I shelled out for the game.

    I would give this game an 8 or 9 if you made more money racing in higher level races like make more money with sports cars than coupes but that is no where to be seen, there is no alternative (other than paying real dollars) to speed up the grinding process. That is just aggravating and sad.

    If this was a freemium game, I would understand but it is not so it is inexcusable.

    Pros:
    * Very high detailed cars as expected new reflections never seen in the game before i.e brake rotors & windscreen glass from view.
    * Improved handling/ feel of grip/ tyre model at work.
    * Can now paint stock wheels on cars carbon, chrome, gold, flake in gloss & matte etc.
    * A lot of new paint finishes/ coverings as stated above carbon etc (although you cannot paint the brake calipers once again)
    * Impulse triggers give you a better idea of when you are losing traction/ pushing a car to its limits on corners.
    * Drivatar is definately an improvment over the previous AI, although it still seems like dumb AI in some situations.
    * Environments are more detailed than previously, not as much as you would expect though (crowds are frozen still/ don't move except a handful holding flags)
    * Slight turbo lag was present on some cars which is a little bit more realistic.
    * A few different turbo sounds have been incorporated but cannot be chosen as before.

    Cons:
    * Too many great cars left out of the game (which is understandable to a degree due to new console etc) but not the fact they want to charge you $50 for a pass to download future DLC cars most of which already appeared in FM4.
    * Not enough tracks as simple as that great tracks removed & the ones that are there will get boring quite fast.
    * Random events of extremely delayed gear shift animations especially on fast down shifts in manual cars that don't have paddles.
    * Sound issues (even in stereo mode) Some cars do not sounds as good as they have previously & some don't even sound how they should at all for e.g the Toyota Supra does not even sound like a 2JZGTE at all & you cannot hear the BOV from outside the car at all even with the race turbo, yet it is really loud from & bonnet cam. Experienced sound cutting in and out from engine on some cars & idle volume is so low even on fully modified cars that you can hardly hear them idling at all.
    * Tuning options are just copied & pasted from FM3/4.
    * Engine swaps do not tell you what engine you are putting in they are random displacements & power outputs & appear to be "generic engines" for e.g you can no longer put a 2JZGTE into the AE86 Corolla.
    * Cars still cannot be lowered enough. (In nearly all cases if you own any of these cars in real life & have purchased coilovers you will be able to go inches lower than the cars can in the game as usual).
    * No new rims, just another copy & paste from the previous titles (lazy once again).
    * Still does not have independent tyre/ wheels size combinations.
    * No new bodykits have been spotted so far except that the Forza wing has changed.
    * A lot less racing events compared to previous titles most likely due to the lack of cars this time round.
    * Have not been able to spot a way to gift cars or created vinyls/ paint etc to friends.

    I have found some glitches where suspension settings have visually reset back to standard in the garage/ homespace, wheels changing back to original colour in garage/ homespace view & even a brake caliper on the Holden E3 GTS coming through a deep dish rim on the rear of the car.

    All in all my experience has to be the only time I have felt majorly let down by a Forza title & I am hoping it is only because of the new console & rush to release it as a launch title. I personally would not recommend anyone else to purchase it & save their money for another game & probably wait it out until Forza 6 which will hopefully it will be a complete game.

The game has an amazing physics engine that surpasses all forza games. You can sense the rubber of the tires gripping at the track. However, the physics are really the only thing good about the game. The game directors have slashed almost all of the features from fm4, reducing the car count from 500+ to 200 or so. TWELVE tracks have also been removed, including Infineon, Sedona, Hockenheimring, and the all-holy-to-car-lovers Nurburgring. That's right. There is no Nurburgring Nordschleife or GP circuit in Forza motorsport 5. On another topic, Turn 10 has decided that you should not be able to free-drive any car. Free drive mode has been neutered so that you can only test drive 20 or so cars the game, and no, you cannot unlock more cars to free drive unless you buy them in career mode. I have no clue as to why they would commit such a blunder. On the subject of the intolerable lack of cars, which Turn 10 arrogantly labels as "quality over quantity," is not quality, it is a LACK of content. But that's not to say that you can't blow your bank account on overpriced day-one DLC. So if you buy Forza 5, keep in mind that you are not paying for the full game. If you want the full game, you are going to have to spend around double the retail price to get the "DLC" that should have been in the game in the first place. Now, career mode. Career mode is a shell of what it was in Forza 4. The only type of play is season play, and the storefront and auction house are gone. Sorry to the dedicated car design artists, but I guess you'll just have to keep playing the now-outdated Forza 4. The reason that the auction house is no longer in the game is because Turn 10 wants you to run out of car credits so you have to purchase "car tokens" in order to buy or upgrade cars. This game is a shameless cash-grab, and despite the lovely physics, this game is shallow, unfinished, unrefined, lacking in content,and absolutely not worth buying. Expand

But even on the higher difficulties, it turns into a smash fest. Nothing like passing a checkpoint, noticing that this is your best lap ever, only to be pasted into the quicksand grass by the drivatar behind you. Rewind is a great option, but you lose credits so it punishes you for something completely out of your control. And finally we come down to car choice. Every car has to be bought. If you play through the campaigns one after another, a good chunk of your money goes into just continuing on. And then there is tokens. I spent $60 on this game. I have a life. I have school. I can't afford hundreds of hours to unlock a single car, and I truly can't afford paying out sometimes $30+ for a single car. I got the game to drive cool cars. I can't even afford them, and don't see a way to do it other than grinding or breaking the bank. In this way, as someone who loves games, bought this as my first xbox1 game, the entire experience is ruined for me. It's free to play model, only I paid for it. * No multiplayer replays kills online league racing, drifting and many other types of community activity
    * Matchmaking doesn't work. I've not been in a hopper with more than 4 people.
    * No custom public lobbies
    * Still no fixable aero
    * Damage is now nothing or 100%. Pitcrew can fix an engine in 10 seconds, but not change your tyres.
    * Can't invite friends of friends
    * No playground modes

    Then we get to the DLC. I've already coughed up £429 for a console, and £60 for an incomplete game. They now want me to buy the cars I got free in FM4 back for £7.99 a pack, and there's microtransactions all over place for shortcutting to the expensive/rare cars. It's greed, bordering on robbery especially after charging a premium price for a game with half the content.

    Forza 5 has so much potential. The graphics, sound and physics are excellent. The (reduced) content is of excellent quality. The simple, easy stuff that worked just fine and makes the community therefore helps extend the game life and perhaps sell more (reasonably) priced DLC has just been broken for no good reason, and covered up in all the pre-launch coverage.

    So much potential, badly squandered for greed and to meet someone elses hardware launch deadline.

At least GT would keep you interested with different kinds of races, goals, and unlockable cars and stuff. My main gripe is the restrictions within free play and multiplayer. I want to drive any car, it is a SIMULATOR after all and not an RPG. I don't care if I can't mod it, but if I want a head-to-head battle with a mate, to create an epic car battle (WRX v STi, Gallardo v F430, Focus RS v Megane RS) I don't want to have to unlock it first in a career mode.

    It would be like locking the top tier clubs in FIFA for local multiplayer until you pay or progress in the career mode. This is why people are cynical, these elements have been removed purposefully to fuel microtransactions. Don't imagine they haven't used psychologists and experts in monetisation to plan how they want to implement this.

    Forza 5 is quite a downgrade in the series that is known for quality and dedication to its fans. Turn 10 completely dropped the ball on this one. The biggest surprise to me (besides the lack of tracks, cars, auction house, gifting, sharing, test driving, etc.) was the lack of drag racing. I know that many people don't bother with drag racing, but I do. It was the sole reason I kept coming back to Forza 4, and now T10 means to tell me there isn't any drag racing at all? Not even one track? Please, don't even get me started on the horrible Cloud driving system. All the drivers are completely erratic and aggressive. It also doesn't help that they always end up braking at the most questionable times because the ghost that is racing had to brake in front of a car that doesn't exist in the current race. It's a horribly thought-out system that is very disappointing; it makes me long for AI (which I never thought I'd say about any game). The only thing that has improved in this installment is the graphics, hands down. Expand

    Simply not good. T10 went backwards with FM5. With only 200 cars and no nurburgring, FM5 is the first forza on xbox one....but definitely not the best of the series. The micro/macrotransactions shouldn't even exist for a title like this.

But my main issue is the it forgets the MOTORSPORT element of it's title, there is very little racing options and features such as qualifying and even the ammount of true racing cars. So many features that made Forza 4 amazing have been removed such as the ability to gift friends things, no online replays, no custom lobby’s and the failure to increase the cars in a race. What do i mean by this? Racing games like Project Gotham Racing 4 had about 15 different weather effects, and not only that, but your cars reacted to the weather effects. It would even start raining halfway through a race or stop raining halfway through a race, or it would go from light rain to hard rain. And like many racers, it even had a day and night cycle or day and night races. And Project Gotham Racing was from way way back in 2007 when last gen was just finding it's feet. Simple things like this can obviously be done on current gen hardware as they were being done well in racing games way back in the days of the Playstation 1 and 2. If we had 15 different types of dynamic weather in a racing game way back in 2007, why couldn't Turn 10 give us even the simplest of weather effects, or even a day and night races? Is it because they are lazy? Is it because they aren't capable? Is it because they want to save that for Forza 6 or Forza 7 and try to milk even more money from racing fans? My guess is the last one. I can see Forza 6 having some kind of weather effects, then Forza 7 having even more advanced dynamic weather. Then they will boast and brag about it as if it's a revolutionary idea, even though previous racing games from 2007 had it in. This is why they have added less cars and tracks from previous Forzas. They want to milk the cash cow and sell you Forza 6 and 7. Those will inevitably have more cars and tracks, even though they could of easily fitted them into Forza 5. Hey they had no problem fitting them into Forza 3 or Forza 4, and those 2 games were on old hardware and on a DVD disc. Forza 5 is on a Blueray disc and holds way more content than a DVD. This milking of the industustry and taking steps back is killing the progression of gaming. Why should gamers buy a latest next gen game when it has much less content than previous old generation games? And not only that, they have to pay a much higher price for the privilege of having less content! It doesn't even have the Nurbirgring! I mean cumon now, whoever at Turn 10 thought that it was a good idea to leave the Nurbirgring out should be taken out to a field and shot! Right' i'm off to play a game from a developer that really does care about making a great game rather than just holding back to milk the industry for everything it's worth. Agree with most of the others. This is clearly a strategic release for Turn 10 and Microsoft to profit off of future DLCs. This game is an absolute disgrace to the Forza name. Likelihood of replay is very low after the first week or two. Terrible.

    The content you genuinely get to access in your $60 game is extremely limited. That would be frustrating enough on its own, but on top of that, the micro-transaction model is so pervasive it's like driving around with a used car salesman in the backseat. With that out of the way i can talk about Forza 5. Wow this is the best racing game i have ever played. The feeling i get from adjusting the drivatar difficulty to my level is extremely rewarding. Since the AI is based off of real players the way they behave is no longer really generic as if they were on some sort of rails. The way vehicles behave in this game feels just rite for all the cars, being an Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 owner when i got to use that car in game that was the closest i have ever felt to actually racing it minus the steering wheel. The game sounds and looks beautiful and in my opinion one of the only games for Xbox One worthy of being next gen.
    Now the one thing it is lacking just in comparison to other games in this genre and previous versions in the series is content. there is only 200 cars available from purchase but these are all wonderful cars worthy of being in a racing title and with tremendous detail. There is more cars coming as DLC you will have to pay for. I believe that there is only 14 tracks to race on playing for 8 hours i have not raced them all yet. Once again they are extremely detailed. Well i hope this helps people make a decision on this game.

    As a forza veteran (forza 3, 4, 5) I was disappointed to see the drop of user created public lobbies in multiplayer. Its gone back to forza 3 type lobbies. The problem with this is that people using simulation style settings (sim steering, in car view, manual gears w/clutch, no tcs/abs/line etc) get punished unfairly. All hopper rooms allow users to run any settings assists, those users get an unfair advantage. I want to race with people who run the same settings as me without being forced to set up private lobbies with party invites. If we could even have the option to .'Join Game' for a forza playing friend that would solve a lot of these problems.

    $78 Forza 5
    $27 VIP add-On (these two can be combined by purchasing the limited edition)
    $65 6x10 car pack

    Once you understand you need to pay $170 to get (again in my opinion) the full game experience, you can begin to look objectively at the game. If you like racing games and know you will play this one for a while then I still think it's worth the money, but I would have liked to know this upfront rather than feel I was duped into the extra costs. The graphics are great, the content is down from Forza 4 but updates are sure to remedy. New game modes are coming and rivals mode will def help you earn that all important in game credit.

    Once you start playing, if you're new to Forza or been living under a rock playing the previous titles, I recommend you log into http://www.forzamotorsport.net and start getting rewards. In the first day I played FMS5 I was awarded $1,000,000 CR and a couple of cars for my recent achievements. There are challenges and new rewards on a regular basis. After 3 days of play approx 9 hours of racing I have 27 cars all gifted or purchased with earned in game credit, no micro transactions.

    The controllers really enhance the feel of the game and the realism improves as a result, each car type exhibit their own unique qualities and progressing the game from D-Class sequentially is a great idea because taking some of the assists off and jumping into an F-1 will be terrifying! And exhilarating, but mostly terrifying! it's much more fun if you've already got a handle on the basics first.

    To conclude: I'd rate it higher if I were just focusing on content it's a fun and more complex game than it first appears, but obscuring the 'true cost' of the game is just a shady, misleading move from such a big game developer. Do not fret, as long as you have at least the VIP add-on (if you don't care for additional cars) there shouldn't be any reason to use the micro transactions and to do so I think risks ruining the flow of the game. [All that said, this is possible only now because Turn 10 have modified the economics since the initial release. Had this not been done, I'd have saved all this typing for a letter to consumer affairs rather than this review]

    As a gamer for over 30 years and having experience on many racing game platforms across consoles, handhelds and PCs, it is sad to see how a perfect storm of the new Xbox One platform, the day one launch release pressure and overall poor design leadership has almost completely ruined what was a great racing franchise.
    I’m not sure if it was a requirement from Microsoft or a brown nosing effort by Turn 10 to continue the ‘Metro-style’ interface from the console into the game interface, but it seems to have left them very limited in how they can tackle menus and options throughout the game. Overall interaction within the Forza 5 interface is frustrating and you never seem to be able to perform the functions that you want or would expect to do in areas that now offer other strange options. Half of the things you were able to do within various menus are now gone while others are in strange places or require a lot more clicking around to find.
    I will cover some examples. The only way to access your current cars or to buy cars is to go into career mode. Even though the cars from your garage can be used in rivals, multiplayer and free play modes, they have opted to send you into the career mode menu to access your garage or purchase new cars. This would seem more logical on the front page, but they have already assigned huge blocks to the 4 different racing modes and a set of smaller blocks to get at other minor functions. The front menu also sports a double block for some kind of ‘marketplace’ which continues to be tagged as ‘coming soon’. This front menu could have been made to scroll from left to right for further items that should have been available here, but it seems that they chose to lock themselves into a single pane on the main menu for some bizarre reason.
    Also in the career menu is the ‘Forzavista’ function which replaces Forza 4’s Autovista feature and now offers up a brief intro for every car in the game. As you pan around the car in ForzaVista mode, you have an option to go into a limited upgrade menu. For some reason they figure that you will just want to make changes to the wheels and aero here or use the ‘quick upgrade’ function. Nobody with a clue uses the auto-upgrade function. If you want to get the full upgrade and tuning features, you have to go back out to the front menu and use the upgrade/tuning menu there. Hopefully you have selected the car that you want to tune from your garage in career mode – otherwise you will have to exit upgrade/tune back to the front menu, enter career mode, enter the garage, find the car you want to tune, get in that car and then go back to the front menu and re-enter the upgrade/tuning area. All of these extra steps become tedious very quickly.
    Buying cars as you grow your fleet can also be frustrating as there is no indication in the ‘buy cars’ area to indicate which cars you already own in your garage. For some reason the garage icon on cars you already own has been removed. So, once you own dozens of cars and receive gifts, you have to constantly be on top of your garage contents or double check your garage to ensure that you are not buying a duplicate.

    The tuning features are also buried in the upgrade menu by pressing the X button from the upgrades area. So, it becomes a lengthy process to back out of races and then getting in to adjust your cars tunes. Also gone is the ability to load your tuning setups from the start race screen in career mode. So, as you progress through a series of career races and you want to change from a tall gearing low aero setup to a short gearing high aero setup, you are forced to quit the race and go back to the front menu to enter the upgrade area. Then enter tuning and then load your setup and then re-enter the race. It becomes amazingly time consuming.
    The previous editions of Forza have turned me into a major tuning tweaker and it is one of the features that I love about the Forza engine and its physics representation of those features. It was amazing to go and run a set of laps on different lines and doing curves, turns and breaking points differently on a series of laps and then to be able to go back and review the race with the telemetry to see where you can make improvements to make your build that much better. Those days seem to be gone in Forza 5 as there is now no telemetry available in the replays anymore. You now have to fuss with the telemetry interface while you are driving a live race and either have someone else keeping an eye on the numbers while you run the course, or risk running ridiculous lines and going off track while trying to monitor the situation yourself. This is a terrible feature to lose for the tuning geeks of the game. It is now almost pointless to offer the telemetry because it is too hard to focus on driving while moving between the telemetry panes and monitor where the numbers are going off while running clean laps during all of this. That has to be the most ridiculous change in Forza 5...

    If you're like me and have had each Forza game then do not go into F5 thinking it is going to be as good as F4, it simply is not. The lack of tracks is unforgivable, it becomes monotonous going around and around the same tracks trying to get enough money to buy your next car. Some of the tracks looks beautiful, but others are just bland and boring. You cannot sell cars as you could in the past, and you cannot buy a part and upgrade / downgrade to the same part again without having to buy it once more.

    It is such an inaccessible game now. The social elements are so lacking it is a shame, there is no car club any more, no sharing cars, very few fun meaningless multilayer modes to play with friends.

    And Driveatars... oh my. Great in theory, but in practice - a gigantic pain. Lets face it, in single player most of us will drive like fools and ram the NPC cars off the road or bounce off them when going into a corner.. so when you factor this into the world of driveatars - your races are full of people ramming you off the road, cutting you off and slamming into you.

    Fundamentally this has the potential to be a great game, but what is holding it back are the lack of tracks, missing social elements and completely broken car upgrade / sale / sharing function.

And if you're going to get this game, make sure that you get it on disk, as you can't drive on many of the tracks without the game being 100% downloaded
    + The menu screen has taken a big improvement from 4 and so have the graphics and the physics, the vibrating triggers are great and it gives you a real sense of how fast you're going around a corner or how hard you're applying the breaks. The credit system that is in place for when you level up is great as I personally thought that 4 gave out cars like sweets at Halloween, apart from it was cars and you got one every time you leveled up, now you get credits instead which gives you more freedom to upgrade your car or buy a certain car that you want, the affinity rewards are the same thing, apart from it gives you a boost at the end of the race and gives a certain percentage depending on how high your affinity level is.
    Overall I give this a 4/10 as the negatives are much more serious than the positives.

    I'm a new returnee to console gaming after a 15 year break - things have changed a lot and not all for the good since the PS2 days, and I'm disappointed I have to say.

    I'll start with the good bits of Forza 5: great graphics, beautiful. Decent driving experience. Clarkson. Unfortunately the game is unplayable because of the micro purchases. It's not even clear how you earn tokens

    Unfortunately the game is unplayable because of the micro purchases. It's not even clear how you earn tokens without paying for them. I'm used to this on free ipad apps, where you get one car, map or character, but this game is GBP60. Experiencing the developer's greed, extreme greed, in this way has actual left me feeling dirty. It is quite disgusting - what if a teenager bought this game with his pocket money?

    Fortunately, Forza 5 came free with a 2nd XBOX ONE I have just bought, so after less than two hours of gameplay I don't feel bad about erasing it from the HDD.

    I'm giving Forza 5 a zero because it is unplayable. Shame on you Microsoft Studios.

    By the way, how this game gets a 79 Metascore is beyond me, I can only assume the critics got a fully unlocked version to play with and weren't asked to part with more of their cash just to have the stuff that should have been available to start with.

    FM5 is at first a real thrill to play and watch but after a few hours of going over the small selection of tracks to choose from you begin to get uninterested. Well, let's get a nicer car - What do you mean I have to purchase it - I already paid for this game. This is crap! Save yourself some time & money: just play Forza 4 on the xbox360.
    Forza 5 is a major step backwards with half the content of Forza 4.
    Sell your xbone if you bought it to race with.

    How does microsoft get away with selling the same game/content over & over just by adding 1 to the number after the name?? Doh!

    This would have been a brilliant free to play microtransaction suported game.

    Or a decent beta test release. This title does not justify the Triple A title and full retail price of £40 (UK after 6 months of release) If your new to the forza series you will not find a complaint about this game, if your coming from any of the other forza motorsport games and looking for this to

    If your new to the forza series you will not find a complaint about this game, if your coming from any of the other forza motorsport games and looking for this to improve on everything that has come before....Im sorry you will be dissapointed.

    If this game were released as a 360 title, its a safe bet the stores would be full of this second hand and be unable to shift any of them

    Now for the full indepth review, read on if you dare:

    OK at a glance the game looks amazing and visually it is about as stunning as you could possibly want it to be. But unfortunatly thats where the good news ends.

    A game by its very nature is designed to be played, FM5 fails to play very well at all. or rather it plays very well for the first couple of races, then you realise that your actually doing the same races, on the same tracks just in a slightly different car.

    Will start by reviewing the "career mode" there is no career as such, meerly a bunch of championships that can be raced in any order, there is no change of format just 10 races in each championship, no sence of achievment for topping the chart as 1st place winner, you get gold for being 3rd and higher. You dont even get a cut scene for any trophies being won. But you will get a lot of cut scenes and not be able to do anything about them, gone is the skip button, you will have to listen to every championship introduction. Then the long wait while the game loads the race you want.

    The career mode actually feels and plays more like the event list (grind the levels put a tick in the box) I should know as i have completed 90% of the event list on FM4.

    There is no way of checking to see what cars your going to be racing in any of the championships, there is no CAR RESTRICTIONS list.

    as there is no natural progression to the next event, it is also very hard to keep track of what events need to be completed. As i said before the event list on FM4 is very similar, only you had the added benefit of seeing a tick next to completed events.

    Then once you do get started on a race you have the dread DRIVATARS player based AI drivers that seem to emulate the actual driving of people in public lobbies, IE crash into them before they crash into you. They brake on the long straights, they plow into you on the corners. the advantage is you can see your friends names over 5 of the cars, the others are always random.

    Then we have the multi player side of things, this is where forza series comes alive....but unfortunatly this is severly restricted to either public hoppers that are for tuned cars only, if you want to give any standard cars a fun blast be prepared to not win any races. The custom made public lobbies of 3 and 4 are gone. You can still create a private game where your friends can join or you can invite others to (IF THE OPTION TO CREATE PRIVATE RACE WORKS!)

    After a full 6 months of being released the online user created private lobbies are still hit and miss on working.

    The public lobbies are so full of crashers and cheaters as to be pointless in joining.

    Then we have the leaderboards, we you have cars setting fast laptimes most of which are glitched, some intentional and some by accident, as i write this one time on the leader board is set to -7 seconds, he actually won the race 7 seconds before it started. When you cast your mind back to FM4 the glitched leader boards were the biggest problem we faced in that game. NOw it is the least of the problems facing T10

    Basically to sum it up, Turn 10 took everything that made them the top racing game developers and threw it out the window.

    They started on a not only a new chapter but a whole new book. Unfortunatly they failed to take note of what actually made the previous books so popular.

    If your looking for a game that is better than Forza Motorsport 4, you will have to look elsewhere.

    Visually it is better than its 360 predecessor but that is the extent of its improvment, everything else is one giant stepo backwards.

    Turn 10 have fumbled the ball on this one big time, will there be a handover or will T10 be able to recover and take this game to the end zone? We are now at the 6 month stage where most games tend to be on the downward spiral FM 4 had me playing for years.

    I really tried to enjoy this game since I own a XOne and will not buy a PS4 in the next few years...
    This game is short on cars, short on tracks, has no progression, you can jump in anycar you can buy... The races with the slowest cars (class D), pay exactly the same the races with formula/prototype cars, I bought on sale (Live Gold) but I would not advice someone buy for more than 20USD...

Of course there's other little awesome things that add on to the realism, like your engine heat, the physics, and there's an amazing photo mode. Also, custom paint jobs is awesome. I can understand the low user ratings a bit, seeing as the game is SO realistic, that it tends to be difficult to play. Forza Motorsport 5 is not a bad racing game per se, but it feels kinda downgraded from the expansive Forza games of Xbox 360. The graphics are fancy, but that doesn't quite compensate the (relative) lack of cars and tracks. [Feb 2014]
