    Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is about half a remaster. Graphically, the animated models and the FMVs are updated to HD resolution, but the game itself is still in 4:3, the models and textures for backgrounds are at their original resolution (so it looks like a game where characters from a 2014 AAA title are running around in a blurry Playstation 1 environment), and the 3D animationsFinal Fantasy VIII Remastered is about half a remaster. Graphically, the animated models and the FMVs are updated to HD resolution, but the game itself is still in 4:3, the models and textures for backgrounds are at their original resolution (so it looks like a game where characters from a 2014 AAA title are running around in a blurry Playstation 1 environment), and the 3D animations themselves are at their original state so some actions (like Cid's speech in the first part of the game) look choppy. Some in-game menus like the school terminal are also at their original resolutions, so this makes for a rather painful experience trying to read menus originally rendered at 640x480. This last one should have been a slam dunk, but whether due to technical difficulties or oversight, it's now an air ball. The soundtrack and SFX got a bit of a makeover. Some tracks are more robust for lack of a better word. The over-world and battle tracks, however, are largely untouched. The game itself is unchanged from the previous port, so there's no new content, unfortunately. So, to recap, nicer graphics, backgrounds and in-game displays that now make me want to vomit, FPS issues also exist so wait to pick this one up on sale.… Expand

    Final Fantasy VIII Remastered has done a great job of bringing a great game from the archive back into the forefront. On first impressions, you might not be wowed exactly by the remaster job, as some graphics look great and some still look like as they did on the PS1. But it has allowed this great Final Fantasy story to be played by both old and new fans of the series as well as allow inexperienced players a chance to just enjoy the ride.

    Final Fantasy VIII Remastered tries to relaunch a classic with a better performance but it ends in a worst result compared to the original one. Nevertheless, it is, still, a good JRPG game that deserves a try.
