Beautiful and compelling open world, fun and chaotic sandbox gameplay, super organic exploration, and the Boomer+Cheeseburger dream team. Only real problem is that the endings are kinda BS.

Best Far Cry game so far! They didn't change much but why change a winning formula? Game looks great and the gun play is always a good time. World is littered with stuff to do.
If I had to nit pick, I would say that that A.I. needs alot of improvement. The enemies are either doing something stupid or not responding to the world at all and it pulls you away from immersion. Other than that

If I had to nit pick, I would say that that A.I. needs alot of improvement. The enemies are either doing something stupid or not responding to the world at all and it pulls you away from immersion. Other than that all the systemic aspects of the game function well.
Next is the weapons, the copy and paste nature of the attachments make all the weapons feel cookie cutter. The fact you can toss a suppressor on everything without punishment and it have the same effect dumbs down the potential stealth aspect of the game.
Just 2 things that pulled me out of an otherwise thrilling ride but was always fun to jump right back into.
I wish the "Far Cry Arcade" community was more active because the map editor is a wonderful tool as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really struggled with giving this game a rating.. I loved the graphics, I loved the play in the game and the enemies are abundant The music was wonderful.. .. the bosses are pretty great and I loved the fact they are mild med and strong you decide which falls where.. No spoilers here.. :)

What I didn't like was the ending.. The ending sucked.. and its because of that, I give the rating I did.. There has to be hope.. Always.. There has to be hope.. I'm not sure I want to play the other 3 DLC's I got with my season pass and I agree with one of the posters below ..After playing this game I went back and started playing Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 and 4 again .. I really wanted to cry after this game..

It's always disappointing when a game has so much promise and possibility yet fails so horribly. In the case of Far Cry 5, it's because the developers just didn't care. This is a game that almost couldn't miss and yet, somehow, Ubisoft threw a nearly perfect gutter ball.

To be fair, there are a few things the game did right. The world is vast and beautiful, with varied terrain and some clever design. Character models are substantially improved over previous versions, looking far more lifelike than nearly any other title I can think of offhand. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends.

Because the truth of the matter is that Ubisoft phoned this one in and it shows. Sound design is variable, with the ambient sounds of the forest sounding marvelous, while the sounds of vehicles are irritating to listen to as they're essentially just speed-swept samples without variations. AI is, as per the Ubisoft usual, defective: when NPCs aren't experiencing one of the few moments of actual lucidity, they're running around completely ineffectually and showing the survival instincts of a yam.

Where prior entries in the series allowed reasonable progression at a sensible pace, FC5 instead doles out money with an eyedropper and skill points only a little less miserly. This forces players into one of two paths. Either you can go indulge Ubisoft's impulse to put MICROTRANSACTIONS into a Far Cry game and pay them MORE money, or you can earn money by...fishing. You're often forced to stop playing the game so you can play a fishing simulator, made compulsory by bad game design. Far Cry is a game about survival and combat; Cabela's makes fishing games. And yet, you'll find yourself fighting fish rather than enemies just so you can afford a gun that is more powerful than the average spitball. Crafting of equipment upgrades is gone, requiring the spending of more money, which requires more time in the crappy Cabela's ripoff part of the game.

Most disappointingly, however, is the plain fact that the writers gave not a single damn - or the company didn't. For a series that gave us memorable and amazing characters like Vaas Montenegro and Pagan Min, FC5 is nothing but cardboard-cutout generic "Bad Guys" direct from the cliche cookbook. The game interrupts the open world regularly with unavoidable "kidnappings" of the player character, forcing you to sit through some of the most trite, insipid, and outright boring cutscenes ever put into a game. The writers gave absolutely no thought to creating believable villains, instead going for "hey, we'll just write something everyone can hate without thinking." Every interaction with them, every radio message, every cutscene just underlines the fact that nobody cared about the story at all. In a game where story needs to drive the player's actions, that's a pretty serious screwup. The game's four primary villains are such utterly forgettable caricatures that they don't rate individual review; it would involve more effort than went into their creation. It's not just enemies, either: most of your allies are just tropes pasted into the game, handed the most insipid lines, and delivered without interest.

There are a few notable exceptions: Luisa d'Oliveira, Steve Byers, and Mayko Nguyen were extremely believable and had depth, and the town priest was well-acted if not terribly well-written.

The rest, however, are an embarrassment. It's a level of plot and character writing that would be at home in an Uwe Boll movie, and maybe not even rising to that level. In part, it's because the developers chose a very controversial frame for their game, then ran away from it. Rather than confronting something uncomfortable head-on as they did in previous installments the developers took one look at how much fire they'd draw from various groups and ran like rabbits from it, abandoning the game's entire premise except for the thinnest of veneers.

When you get right down to it, Ubisoft blew three out of four key areas of game design: the story was pitiful, the gameplay was unbalanced and poorly implemented, and there's clearly no respect for the players with the introduction of a naked cash-grab in the form of microtransactions. (Apparently, Ubisoft was blissfully unaware of the backlash surrounding their implementation in Star Wars: Battlefront II.) The game clearly lacked content and the developers knew it, so they padded the time by slowing player progression and forcing diverts into minigames like fishing. Microtransactions are practically forced on the player as a result, and the extortionate way they're handled and priced is a bald-faced insult.

At the end of the day, there is no way this game is worth release pricing, or indeed any price tag over about $10. If you're looking for an enjoyable shooter, this is most definitely not it. Get a reduced price copy of Far Cry 3 or 4 and play that instead; either one is ten times the game that this disorganized, confused mess is.

Far Cry 5 is the first numbered game I’ve played in the series since far cry 2…
After hearing such great things about this game I thought my experience would be even better since Far Cry 5 would feel so fresh and new to me because I haven’t played 3 or 4..
I wouldn’t have that this is just more of the same kind feeling..
And despite this.. that feeling is exactly what I got here..
Far Cry 5 feels like just another bland and boring shooter…
The game takes play in a fictional hope county Montana USA
you play as your own created character out to take down Joseph Seed… A cult leader..
But to get to him in car cry fashion you have to regain control and liberate 3 different territories and take down his 3 siblings….
You can take them down in and order you’d like.. though the game suggests you start in the south and make your way up, so this is exactly what I did starting with John Seed…
And by this games roughly 28 hour long campaign you’ll understand exactly why the game suggests you start at the bottom and work your way up..
John seeds section is easily the strongest part of the game in terms of world building and level design… every area of this section of the map is memorable, it feels worth exploring for its treasures, the side quests feel worth doing…
And this is the majority of the campaign as well, taking me about 13 hours to clear, and then it’s on top faith seed which took about 10 hours to clear… the world building is miles weaker, but these 10 hours are saved by one of my favorite villains in video game history..
This was hands down my favorite chunk of the game thanks to how unique her individual missions are as you’re dealing with something called the bliss.. this causes hallucinations, and a creepily charming, seductive and hypnotic crazy girl that we’ve all dated before, and then the final 5 hours of the game is dealing with the mediocre Jacob seed section…
the world building in the north of this map is mind numbing garbage.. no heart here whatsoever…
so I’m happy it takes up so little of the campaign time…
But to get to these story missions you have to bring these characters out.. you have to cause mayhem around the world..
and this is what far cry fans love about the game…
liberating posts, destroying property, rescuing characters and animals like cheese burger the bear to call them in to help you during missions, you Can even play through the world co op with friends
and after you’ve done enough damage you’ll be marked and they will hunt you down and you then have to escape whatever scenario you find yourself in.. sadly, though there are only 3 missions for each character aside from their introduction…
    such a massive disappointment..
especially with a character such as faith seed..
it’s a shame how underused she is
I honestly would’ve preferred if she was the only character in the game, and we were constantly dealing with her tricks and seduction..
    shes so well written,
sadly this isn’t what we get… I feel that the first chunk if this game is the only section where any of this chaos causing gar cry fans enjoy is any fun
the faith seed section is saved by the character, but that’s the only redeeming quality.. the world gets more bland as the game goes on
After I cleared the first part of the map I resorted to just clearing missions with a helicopter.. that’s how little I cared to explore..
outside of the campaign there is a decently fun arcade mode where you can build your own singpleypalyer, co op, or death match maps using assets from the past far cry games and even games like assassins creed..
    plenty to get creative with..
but if you’re like me and creating the levels isn’t your thing you can just hop in to play other peoples maps or even have some decently fun competitive play with some alright maps thrown in there…
there isn’t the call of duty polish here, but I had a decent amount of fun.
Far Cry 5 has its moments of greatness despite feeling a bit lazy as it goes on.
this would’ve been a better game had it been smaller and more polished with much more narrative focus
I know Ubisoft would disagree with such a statement but at the end of the game I think we can all agree
We need a faith seed game
    I give Far Cry 5
    a 7.5/10

Far Cry 5 is much different to the other games in the franchise in ways that make it better.
Fishing and more aerial vehicles make the game have fun pass times or a way to explore the beautiful county.
The open world aspect feels more alive, speaking to those you have liberated from the cult for information or finding magazines on tables/shelves for information or hunting locations.

You can also just stumble upon new characters who are just as interesting as the last, there is no feeling of being forced around the map.

The only issues I found within the game were that some of the assets were recycled from previous Far Cry games or the amount of glitches. Whilst I was playing there was a cut scene and it would not run until I rebooted. This was a rare occurrence though and should not hinder your playing in general.

    Overall, this game. Worth it.
I only give it a 9 due to the bugs & micro transactions in single player games..

I have got 90 hours on record.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 5 is a lot of fun with varied game play and a lot to do. However, it loses points due to repetitive, tedious cut scenes and lackluster antagonists.

    The good;
Fun open world with lots to do.
Vehicles are pretty good with auto-pilot or NPCs if you don't feel like driving yourself.

    The not so good;
Beautiful graphics but it's... Montana. It's a wonderfully rendered version of a not-very-compelling place with boring wildlife.

    The bad;
    Villains are lackluster
Each area gets repetitive in that once you reach a certain point you are captured, have to watch a cut-scene, escape, wash rinse repeat. By the second cut-scene this gets pretty tedious and there is a lot of this.
Weapons lack variety especially considering the setting
Random events are very hard to locate without Boomer (this has been a common flaw in all Far Cry games since 3)
Perks allow you to have 2 NPCs but the game wasn't really designed for that. For example if you get into a vehicle, one of the NPCs may get in with you but the other will run along outside.

To sum up, i'd recommend buying Far Cry 5 on sale.

The game is amazing, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that this game being the greatest Far Cry game, but challenges Far Cry 3 which for me personally is the greatest Far Cry game.

I will stall out at 8/10 because most y because of how you interact with this amazing world. The protagonist has no personality, no history, no background, nothing. Only information about the protagonist is that he/she is a rookie cop. In pervious Far Cry games, we had protagonist with backgrounds and purpose. Unfortunately, this time around the protagonist is just mute. Which I think is a huge missed opportunity. Even a dialogue system would be good enough than our player just no speaking at all. Personally, I like to see the player that we play as having personality and purpose. Otherwise the main idea just feels pointless in so many encounters throughout the game.

Loud explosions and fast paced action is what Far Cry 5 does best, that is unless you are caught into one of the 15 minute NPC monologue that can not be skipped. No matter how many times you play through. Honestly though Far Cry 5 is a well made, and polished game. Other than the occasional weird choice of respawn locations (usually looking down a barrel the minute the load screen ends) Far Cry 5 runs flawlessly. Not much else to say about it. I encourage anyone who does play it, play to the end, trust me. My biggest gripe is that it seems that Far Cry is starting to get into Assassin's Creed disease. I don't know how much longer Far Cry can survive with the same formula. Sure, Ubisoft got rid of the endless tower climbing but there just isn't enough of a change to say that it's a far cry away from Far Cry (see what I did there? :-) I believe its time for a bit of a shake up. Still though Far Cry 5 is just good enough to recommend a play through, even at $59.99. Better do it now before God of War releases lol. Expand

the gameplay was awesome but it wasnt any different from other far cry games. Also:
some aspects from it are done better in other games
boss fights were repetetive like all other minor 'fights' and escapes...
the story was ok but wasnt shocking

There are a lot of things I could pick over in Far Cry 5, random assets not quite placed in the game world properly or AI NPCs doing odd things or perhaps just criticise Ubisoft for recycling a lot of assets from other games but that wouldn't be fair because this just may be the best Ubisoft game and certainly the best Far Cry game that I have played. Ubisoft Games seem to all be stickingThere are a lot of things I could pick over in Far Cry 5, random assets not quite placed in the game world properly or AI NPCs doing odd things or perhaps just criticise Ubisoft for recycling a lot of assets from other games but that wouldn't be fair because this just may be the best Ubisoft game and certainly the best Far Cry game that I have played. Ubisoft Games seem to all be sticking to a very strict formula these days. Whether you're playing Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5 and it will probably be the same for The Crew 2 when it arrives, there's always a sense of familiarity about Ubisoft titles, more so today than years past. Leaps forward have been more controlled but there has been a refinement which has delivered vast game worlds packed with content and in the case of Assassins Creed Origins and Far Cry 5, compelling stories.

Far Cry 5 takes us to Montana and we play the part of the rookie deputy, part of a task force sent into the fictional Hope County to arrest the games bad guy Joseph Seed AKA The Father. Joseph Seed is flanked by his faithful companions and Lieutenants whom you must defeat. My personal favourite is faith but the others are likeable foes. John Seed reminds me a bit of Ryan Reynolds . The story starts off tense with the utter madness of the game being mixed in between the story line. I Enjoyed the plot and thought it was written well and well acted by the voice actors there's nothing that really stands out for me though and for that reason I can't see Far Cry 5 being remembered for it's story alone.

Luckily Far Cry 5 has an awful lot of other things going for it. The game world is beautiful and full to the brim of content. Ubisoft have done a great job recreating rural Montana and it's really surprising to see how beautiful the game looks on even the original Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Ubisoft have clearly put in a lot of work with the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game with the latter managing to output at native 4k although both versions give stunning crisp visuals. Even the PC version has had a lot of attention with the game looking stunning and running very smoothly.

As with most Ubisoft games Far Cry 5 offers you the chance to focus on story missions but you'll often find yourself getting distracted by one of the many side missions you can encounter along the way. The random encounters with NPCs and wildlife offer perhaps the most humorous moments though. One minute you'll be merrily navigating your way through the game and the next something bizarre and funny will unfold in front of you. The ragdoll system also provides many laughs and not once have I found myself getting frustrated or bored.

There's plenty of customisation for both weapons and your character and whilst there are micro-transactions in the game I've not found myself tempted or manipulated into purchasing anything.  There are plenty of vehicles at your disposal and if you want to take a break from the madness of the game there's other activities to do too like swooping down hill sides in your wing-suit or perhaps my favourite in game pass time fishing. If you want to try something a bit more radical then there's always the Far Cry 5 Arcade mode to sink your teeth in too. Players can create their own maps and challenges that can be downloaded and played by others and this game mode will give you plenty of replayability and unadulterd fun.

Movement and gunplay is nice and sharp with  decent difficulty scaling. The AI could be improved but their sometime stupid and random actions can often lead to some truly memorable and funny moments. All in all I have to say that Far Cry 5 is the best game I've played this year so far. It's not perfect and there's plenty that could be done better but there's just so much that's been refined and Ubisoft have created a game that is just so much fun to play. I have no idea where the series is going to go after this but with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft have really raised the bar. This is a game that deserves a place in your collection.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 5 offers several improvements over previous games and has a great story... until the ending.

    The Good:

I love the Far Cry games and I had a blast playing this one. For about 4 days. I liked the progression system the game implemented. Gone are those f#&@ing radio towers that take forever and a half to activate. You discover locations based on where you set foot on the map, making it much easier to fast travel and find side missions. Overall the gameplay feels much more organic, side missions just sort of happen. You don't have to track down some old woman in some shack in the middle of the woods to do a side quest. I also liked the game's villains. They were cunning and well written, in true Far Cry fashion. The region system also worked well. It was fun doing quests and gradually liberating each region. It created added incentive and made the side quests much more worthwhile.

    The Gripes:

What if I told you that no matter what you do in the game, it comes down to three b.s. endings.

I'm getting Mass Effect flashbacks all over again.

The first one is a secret ending where at the very beginning of the game, you chose not to arrest the father and you forgo the game's entire storyline. I don't know about you but that's pretty lame. Two, all the people you help show up with bliss smoke around their heads (or they're just vape gods idk) and are under the control of the father. They stick up you, the sheriff, and the deputies and the father asks you to just leave them in peace and no harm will come to you. If you choose to leave, you get in the car with Whitehorse and the deputies and drive away. Whitehorse says that he's gonna call in the national guard and take out the father. But as you are driving away, the song that Jacob used to condition you (turn you into a sleeper agent basically) comes on the radio. Your vision goes red and then the screen blacks out, leaving you to assume that you went total ragin' Cajun and killed your friends. The last and most f#^@ed ending is where you choose to resist the father wherein the nuclear apocalypse actually happens. You drive away through the nuclear hellfire and crash when a tree hits the truck. Then you wake up chained to a bed in Dutch's bunker with none other than the freakin' father. Where you will spend the rest of your days listening to his enlightened ass saying I told you so. Everyone is dead and your choices didn't matter.

That's it. The grand finale. At least in ME3, everyone lived and the galaxy was a better place. OR MAYBE THE CONTROL/SYNTHESIS ARE THE PRODUCT OF SHEPARD'S INDOCTRINATION AND THE ONLY REAL ENDING IS THE RED ONE BECAUSE IT DESTROYS THE REAPERS AND SHOWS SHEPARD TAKING A BREATH. THE EXTENDED CUT IS A LIE. INDOCTRINATION THEORY CONFIRMED.

But in Far Cry 5, the ending is not even interesting. It just sucks. You either don't help anyone, leave them with the father and kill your friends, or everyone dies. Nothing you did in the entire game mattered. Maybe this ending appeals to the pretentious woke/deep people among us, whose favorite pastime is writing bad nihilist poetry devoid of any originality and the over use of a thesaurus. But for the rest of us, it sucks donkey balls.

My other complaints are as follows:

    1. There aren't enough weapons
    2. Said weapons take too short a time to unlock. By the time you take out two of the father's lackeys, you already have all the weapons.
    3. The prestige weapons don't offer any advantage to the normal weapons other than a skin. This makes them pointless.
    4. No boobies
    5. Some of the side missions are rediculously hard and offer crappy rewards. I'M LOOKING AT YOU WHAT THEY CARRIED.

Okay gotta take a break for a sec, there is this mission called "what they carried" where this guy asks you to track down all of these lighters from Vietnam. You see, he and his buddies feared that something like the cult might happen so they stockpiled a bunch of weapons in this dude's shed and kept parts of the code to get into said shed on the back of these lighters they got in 'nam. Buuuuut, you gotta go all over hell and half of Georgia to find them. I thought that since you had to go over all three regions to get the lighters the reward would be some sick gun that you can only get from the mission or at least a unique outfit or something. But get this. The reward is ammo. AMMO! Literally you could get this stuff from any outpost or mission easily but this guy makes you go all over the place just to get some dynamite, C4, and a few arrows. Don't do this mission.

    6. Silent protagonist. There is no excuse for this. They justify it because you make a custom character, which has no effect on the game and you only see yourself when you die so it doesn't really matter anyway. Plus, freaking Fallout 4 managed to do this on a much bigger scale with both male and female characters. AND they had multiple text options.

    Conclusion:

Decent game, crap ending, buy on sale.

    The Good:
First and foremost, the setting is, in my opinion, the strongest aspect of this game. Montana is the most beautiful game world I have had the pleasure in exploring. I have never played a game where there was a faster travel mechanic (i.e. helicopters, planes, cars, etc.) and instead, I opted to instead walk most of the time and enjoy the scenery. You'll discover breathtaking mountain views, beautiful valleys, hidden mountain lakes, picturesque water falls, and trails for days on end. There is nothing quite like hiking up into the mountains, killing a couple of cultist with a M60, hunt a bear with a .50 Cal sniper, and then enjoying fishing while the sun sets over the mountains.

When you do get tired of walking, FC 5 has an impressive roster of vehicles. Previous Far Cry entries had a very underwhelming roster of either cars, jeeps, or military cargo trucks. Taking vehicles got old simply because there was no variety. There are tons of different vehicles in this entry, however. You get everything from ATV's, lifted trucks, dune buggies, sporty hatch-backs, helicopters, planes, semi trucks, and even muscle cars. You can also spawn these at multiple locations so you no longer need to hunt for a vehicle.

The guns for hire is a pretty cool mechanic from 2 that now is a lot more inclusive. These guys can really help you out and are very situational. Think Metal Gear Solid 5's buddy system with more variety. The beauty of this system is that it lets you mix and match up to two buddies to fit whatever play style you wish. Want to go in loud? Pick Sharky and Cheesburger. Want to go in stealthy? Jess and Peaches. Want air support? Hurk's mom can cover you from a helicopter. Plane problem? Get Hurk and Nick.

The missions and activities are varied, unique, and fun to play for the most part. Side activities are fun and the outposts somehow feel better than in previous entries. This may be because of the guns for hire or it maybe because of the setting. Either way, you will not run out of things to do in Hope county for quite a while.

No more looting animations or skinning animations, which were cool at first but took up a lot of time. Crafting from animal skins is also gone, being replaced by perks. Some people may not like this, but I for one was tired of tracking down 4 rhinos so I could carry 1 more grenade.

    The Meh:
Gun play, while good, has not changed in any particular way. Don't get me wrong, Far Cry gun mechanics have always felt superb. The problem is, it is kind of a victim of its own success. If you played 3 or 4, then you're going to feel the same here. The only thing I can really say is that it feels very solid.

The story is pretty damn meh. While I don't think its awful like a lot of people are saying, it definitely is a let down. I'm not a writing expert, but I will say, out of the series, the story is one of the weakest. While the idea of fighting a branch Davidian style cult is intriguing, it lacks pacing and polish.

The bad guys are also pretty underwhelming. Faith and John were actually pretty interesting, but more could be done with them. Jacob was very underwhelming and Joseph had potential but was disappointing. These guys are definitely no Pagan or Vass.

The AI can be pretty dumb at times. Friendly and enemy NPC's are.... capable, but your guns for hire may piss you off because they WONT GET IN THE DAMN CAR JESS.

The minimap is gone. Its nice just to go and explore without having to follow a map, but it also had its uses.

    The Bad:
In a game with so much freedom, the story missions like to yank you out of your mayhem sprees quite often. In each sector, you get something called resistance points. Basically, as you kill important people, liberate outposts, and do missions for people, you build up resistance points. With each leader, there is around 4 or 5 plateaus of points. When you reach one of these, it triggers a mission. These are not a choice, and it can be extremely annoying when you are busy doing something. If you like to set your own pace, and you don't want to do the story mission yet, you essentially have to do nothing except hunt, fish, look for pepper stashes, and kill people (except not VIP's). Also in one particular region, when the final mission was triggered, a quest giver actually died, disallowing me to complete the rest of his quests.

The Guns for hire can be extremely annoying. It seems like every 20 seconds they have it written in their contract that requires them to say one of 6 lines of dialogue. It even gets worse when you have 2 guns for hire with you. While each one have unique dialog lines that they use to communicate with each other, they only have around 5 to 6, and repeat them often. If they get interrupted by literally anything, they will try to say the section of their sentence they were interrupted on again and again.

There's a fun vein in black humour that pointedly makes fun of the current right wing zeitgeist but it's not overly present and the games best laughs are from it's depictions of American stereotypes. I hated the motivation of the seed family members, they so inhumanly bad wrote. I hated also that they did call me rookie after massacring like hundreds of cultist xD.
Few small problems, that I didn't like also where small numbers of guns, you could be stuck with same gun from start to finish. Optic on sniper rifle are bad I mean in FC3 I could snipe some bad guys from 700m xD

What is good in this game? There is tons of stuff to do, animal companions, and pilot ray. if you don't like some content u just can skip IT, you still will progress through story. Some quests are cool, and fun to do. Graphics are good, and music is good as well, you have the filling of being somewhat the hero.

Final grade: Game is just ok, and fun if you like far cry series, nothing much. It's good to kill time to wait for something else bigger better. I paid for it less then 50$ so I would say for this price is worth it.

As for the gameplay…..WOW. Frame rate issues, screen tearing and hit or miss graphics.

NPCs in the game are unpredictable and stupid. Cars smash into walls for no reason, NPCs are duplicated over and over again. I ran into the same women 3 times in the same area. Same goes for the enemy, you fight the same 3 enemies over and over again. No verity at all.

You can not breathe for a minute whilst doing anything, walking, driving…..nothing! You have some enemy spotting you and attacking you.

Enemies spawn right behind you out of nowhere, and helicopters are constantly above your head and knowing where you are at all times.

If you use stealth, they will spot you. Every fight ends up with you having to shoot about 40 men (Who all look the same)

People you meet in the game for missions are boring, lifeless and stiff. There is no soul to the game whatsoever.

Micro-transactions are pushed upon you. So much so that if you want to go and use a car or gun you bought (In the game) you HAVE to go to their online store to also see the real money items you can buy as well. This might sound ok, but imagine how many times you use this feature to pick your weapons back up and upgrade them 100s perhaps…….and imagine having to wait for an online connection to find their store? Sometimes I'm waiting for 30 seconds each time for it to load! THIS IS DISGUSTING UBISOFT.

I feel ashamed that such a great soundtrack is in the game, it really is WAY too amazing for this total nightmare of a game.

Speaking of which, why have an amazing soundtrack only to give us no way of hearing it whilst driving, because the engines are so loud? That is ridiculous Turn the noisy engine down and give us the ability to raise the music higher! All other big game devs do this, so why can't you?

Also, why give us the ability to buy nice cars, only to force us to only see one view inside the vehicle? Its sloppy developing….this and all the other things i have mentioned show how lazy the team behind far cry 5 were.

All the above is just stuff off the top of my head. There are multiple other things you will come across in the game that continues to show the lack of love that went into Far cry 5. For shame Ubisoft.

However, most aspects of Far Cry 5 are done better elsewhere. The plot is messy, often forcing situations to occur just to continue the narrative. It became ludicrous to be repeatedly captured, only to inevitably escape again. Constantly stuck in similar vision/dream sequences was also repetitive. The characters in this plot are very weak and often annoying. It is a massive detriment to the game that the world and characters do not match the chaos of the gameplay, often failing to go far enough. It manages to be neither funny, interesting or shocking.

With regards to in-game awards, and therefore incentive; money is of little value, there are not many vehicles or weapons or customization options, and perks offer a form of progression, but never feel absolutely necessary to progress. The single save system is nonsensical for this type of game. Especially when bugs kept giving me heart attacks when the game broke.

Far Cry 5 achieves what it sets out to do, create constant chaotically fun scenarios, making it difficult to be too critical. Nonetheless, in terms of quality, the game is very average.

Can't stand this game's save system. One single save file and the game only lets you save when it wants you to. I don't know who at ubisoft came up with this genius system, but they need to be fired.

You'll be playing and getting 80% of the way to a new location 5 minutes away and then 5 trucks will show up out of nowhere and gun you down instantly, forcing you to respawn at square one.

I can't complain about the stashes with perk points, money and silver bars (if you find them) because I wanna deck out the sweet guns. I am running a sneak build and when you get everything on a sniper and get a few perks, I feel unbeatable.

The worst aspects of this game for me is just that the story isn't too crazy, it's insane for sure, but it isn't "bat **** insane". The AI is just bad, weird in 2018 so many games still have such bad AI like this and in groups it's just a bullet fest. The driving doesn't feel really good, but also because you have enemies all over the roads, I haven't felt like going out in the open much seeing as im building to more stealth.

I've only finished one section and it felt like a normal game to me (side quests and all) so in that I feel like based on content and fun to be had/small hand holding exploration, it's easily worth $60.

I think they're really gonna have to turn up everything to 11 on the next title an given how different Primal was and this one while missing marks, I think that is going to be very hard and I hope to see them really spend maybe 4 or 5 years on the next title.

You’ll spend your time taking over outposts, destroying cult properly, freeing hostages, among other options. These missions are well varied and break up the monotony that previous entries were known for. I particularly enjoyed the stunt racing that had ‘Murica written all over it, with its bald eagle and firework spectacle that starts each race, coupled with the southern rock soundtrack that backs them. I was honestly waiting for a Donald Trump lookalike to pop out at the finish line with his MAGA hat on.

Many of the mechanics and controls are carbon copies of past games in the series and rarely disappoint, although Ubisoft has dumbed down the hunting aspect to the point that it barely is present anymore. While there are some missions requiring you to hunt down a specific type of animal, they are no longer used for crafting. I’m not normally one for crafting as it’s normally boring, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hunting required to carry additional weapons or make other upgrades that the previous games required. This is more of an afterthought, with wildlife being much more sparsely placed (unless you’re driving, at which point deer and other animals stand in the road in huge groups), reducing the chances of a random tiger attacking you in the middle of creeping around a base like the past games. These were some of the most memorable moments in the franchise. Sure, fishing has been added as an alternative, but it’s about as much fun as sitting out by the water in real life, and at least there’s normally beer involved in reality. And Nature. Oh, and mosquitos. So I guess that is a bit of a tradeoff.

Visually the game is pretty impressive from the get go, featuring a huge map that can fully be accessed without additional loading screens, although the initial one is a bit of a killer – it takes close to 5 minutes to get in game if not using one of the console’s resume features. The water and lighting effects are amazing and make the wilderness settings really stand out. I’d often stop and take in the scenery while exploring. The character models look photo realistic at many points, but other small details are lacking and break immersion: tires cannot be shot out of vehicles and glass does not display bullet holes from the outside but will shatter if driving. Sure, these might be petty complaints, but when the visuals are THAT good, you’d think they could have added these small touches. In addition to this, many of the character models for NPCs and enemies are recycled to the point that it feels like you’re shooting at turtles and mushrooms from Super Mario Bros.

I know that up until now my review hasn’t been all that bad compared to my opening – that’s about to change. This game is the buggiest thing I have ever played in my life, and most are not even mildly entertaining like those found in Mass Effect Andromeda. Many of the cut scenes are 3-5 seconds out of sync, and when the cult leader is longer winded than Negan of The Walking Dead, it’s a problem. I’d often zone out, only paying attention to the lips moving with his dead eyes staring at me, opposed to following the narrative. There is also a repeated story segment which overstays its welcome: the leader sends some highly trained soldiers after you, relentlessly pursuing you until you are brought in for a nightmare like sequence. Not only was I pissed this happened as I was en route to do some major damage to a cult base, I would like to know how the hell they pulled me from midair, in a helicopter, from the ground without dying. Add this to the occasionally bullet proof bear or enemy, random unexplained deaths, invisible walls, and the game breaking error I received around 1/3 of the way to completion, and it’s obvious my time in Eden Falls has been less than a joy. I’ve also been screwed out of 100% completion, as one of the many collectibles (a silo filled with explosives) was blown up as I was dying. This wouldn’t be a big deal if I got credit for it, but I didn’t. There’s an icon telling me where the same one is, which I have revisited and now, a lone enemy is in a field in place of it. Similar issues have popped up mid-mission as well, forcing me to restart one of the air combat missions from the beginning, which caused me motion sickness. At this point, Chad's given up on the story and am hoping for a patch to fix this.

Far Cry 5 - whether people like to admit or not, has an amazing story. Right off of the bat it sucks you in and makes you interested in the best villain the Farcry series has had.

The graphics are absolutely amazing, the sounds are incredible, the game-play is original but still seems fresh.

Here is a list of my pro's and cons.

    Cons:
    - Ubisoft is known for their bugs, and there are a few in this, but expected in large open world games.
    - Very minimal gun customization even with skins. (Normal red dot, acog, silencer, etc).
    - A.I. is sometimes running straight into fences or walls (Bugs)
    - CO-OP is a blast however whatever you unlock in your friends game doesn't transfer back.
    - MINIMAL healing effects (You just wrap bandages)

    Pros:
    - AMAZING Hyper realistic graphics (on xbox one x)
    - Great sounds and visuals
    - Amazing Villain, and great story
    - Huge Skill Tree
    - Who doesn't want to have a bear named cheeseburger?
    - HUGE open world and tons to do
    - CO-OP is a blast
    - Game doesn't hold your hand

I give this a game a 9/10 however I rated it a 10/10 because of all the "bad reviews" that don't even explain anything other than the fact that it's "terrible"

I hate the inability to save/restore your progress. If you make a mistake your only option is to restart the game from scratch.

Also if you exit your vehicle it can just disappear. You shot the bad guys and go back to loot and their bodies have gone!!!

The scenery is great. The physics works well but the lack of a restore is a deal breaker as far as I am concerned. It is gone from my PC.

Hello. I have been a long time follower of Far Cry. Perhaps this series reached its pinnacle with Far Cry 3. After the disappointment of Far Cry Primal, I was hoping Far Cry 5 would kick ass. 5 hours into the game, I have some questions.

The previous point system for gaining skills has been replaced by a challenge based point system which actually sucks because it dictates what you need to do to instead of allowing you to roam the environment. While the environment is graphically more realistic, the game dynamics have changed a lot. At this point, the jury is still out. I have spent a lot of time hunkering down and relying on npc characters to do the heavy lifting.

While you are in a rural environment, you are constantly harassed by random encounters which include attacks by animals as was the case in far cry 4.

To be honest, it is too early to judge, but I will probably return this game.

There is nothing new that makes it better.
Arguably, the older versions were better.
It is not fun to play.

Make your choice, but I have recently started to play Fallout 4 GOTY edition again and it is way better.

    1. Micro-transactions are present in the game in the form of cosmetic camos and skins for weapons and vehicles. I am not bothered by it, but I can understand why people would be as they can slow down loading screens for shops and such as it loads online content first. Along with the over-arching principle of MTs.

    2. Political commentary is NOT present in this game and that's the way it should be, along with every other game. It is about a religious cult, not a political ideology, there are a few jabs here and there, but you will not see political agendas being pushed. Deducting points for that in a video game is silly, deal with it Polygon. Thank you Ubisoft.

Let me get some of the other obvious things out of the way, this is a Far Cry game, all the fun open world action elements in the predecessors (can't speak for primal) are present here. I never thought that having Montana as the setting for this game would be a good idea, but I have to give credit to Ubisoft, they nailed it. The graphics are incredible for console standards and the map is absolutely massive with many things to do and explore, especially in co-op with a friend.

A lot of people have complained that the story was terrible and I honestly do not believe "terrible" is the right word, however I think it is an average one with some interesting moments here and there, but nothing incredibly special or immersive. It centres around the Eden's Gate Cult, their leader Joseph Seed, along with his family and cult lieutenants, namely John, Jacob, & Faith. The 3 lieutenants all have their own reasons for existing and their own style of contribution to the cult's main purpose. John's background seemed pretty weak to me, while I understood and somewhat enjoyed the perspectives of Faith & Jacob.

Also, stop comparing Joseph Seed to Vas. Vas was an excellent character, and is known for being one of the best video game villains ever, but Vas was not even the main villain in Far Cry 3, it was Hoyt, and I believe that Joseph Seed and the actor who played him did an excellent job in portraying a cult leader.

The game also did really well with some of the guns/fangs for hire. They all have their own fun/funny personalities and combat styles that will suit different players. Though the AI can sometimes be a bit silly. I quite enjoyed roaming the lands with Peaches and Cheeseburger. How can you say no to Cheeseburger?

There are several things that bother me about this game, and they will all be listed in the cons list below, but I have to mention a few things here.

I am thoroughly disappointed with the lack of weapon variety in the game, there are so few weapons it is unbelievable, the easiest example for me to point out is that 3 out of the 4 SMG options are MP5s (MP5k, MP5, MP5SD & MP40). Their are also duplicate varieties of the AK-47 and Lever action rifle, and not much in the way of stats to differentiate some of these weapons. Where are the signature weapons? Miss the Bushman & Buzzsaw. It is incredibly lazy.

Crafting from animal skins was removed, along with rare animal hunts, which I actually enjoyed for immersion sake. Mission boundaries are awkward and most of my fails were a result of this. The HUD can be difficult to see at times due to the colouring choice and background of the game. There are also way too many random enemy encounters on downtime if you have yet to liberate the region and it can get annoying.

Also, if you are the guest in a co-op game, you will not receive any story progression, cannot help but feel like this was a poor decision.

    + Great graphics
    + Well designed setting
+ Classic Far Cry fun & action
    + Incredibly fun co-op
    + Good/Fun characters & specialists
    + Loads of side quests
+ Player agency from the get go
+ Fishing is a welcomed surprise
+ Far Cry Arcade gives creative types a chance to shine
    + Excellent gunplay and sounds
+ All perks unlocked from the get go
+ Love the fangs for hire options
    + Great soundtrack and atmosphere

    - Average story with poor pacing
    - Serious lack of weaponry
    - No story progression for visiting co-op player
    - Mission boundaries are weird
    - Too many enemy encounters on downtime
    - Poor hud visibility occassionally
    - Poor AI
    - Removed old crafting system
    - No signature weapons or rare animal hunts
    - No need for micro transactions regardless

The game is far from perfect, but Ubisoft did one hell of a job and I do not see how it deserves anything lower than an 8. It is on par with Far Cry 4 and definitely an improvement over Primal.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a shame that people don't understand the deeper meaning of this game's magnificent storyline. It puts the whole world in another perspective. A perspective that we in the real world should consider could actually be for the better. As it's maybe how it always was supposed to be before we created what earth is today. A place we created, soon a place we destroyed. Joseph was actually trying to do the right thing. The thing no one dares to do or speak loud about. He was trying to save the human race from ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm not insane. But life is precious and I'm not sure we have as much time as we think we have left to appreciate this beautiful gift we've been given. Because in the end, we will all die under the same feet of our own race. Just because we didn't have faith in each other. And of the cause, the ending is supposed to hit you this way. It's simply there to make you feel stupid because all the effort you went through with killing endless amount of people who actually just tried to save us from extinction is surely something that goes against ''gods will''. Cause, in the end, Joseph turns out as the good guy when he offers redemption ''in the eyes of god'' from our sins we've made throughout the whole game. This is clearly why there's no good ending. Cause why should there be a good ending when we were the bad guys all along? Expand

Thankfully Far Cry 5 carries on this tradition extremely well and it’s that good that it’s my most favourite game of the series so far. A decent story has always been a prominent feature in Far Cry and thankfully it continues here. The story hooks you from start to finish and the writing shines through on all levels adding to the overall gameplay brilliantly throughout your time with the game. A new feature in Far Cry 5 is the added co-op option and this gives the game even more replayability and with the amount of content that’s available you won’t find yourself getting bored anytime soon. The main reason why you don’t get bored is because the world in which the game takes place feels alive at every turn. There is always something to do in this game and the amount of variety each quest has is absolutely fantastic and the variety doesn’t stop there because the enemies and combat also possess a huge amount of variety. The combat has seen significant improvements in my opinion and the amount of moves you can do makes taking down your enemies extremely satisfying at all times. The gameplay on the whole is also extremely satisfying at all times as well and that’s mainly down to all the different mechanics in play at the same time. I was especially impressed with the shooting mechanics in the game and you can definitely tell that a lot of effort has gone in here because everything always feels on point and most importantly the controls that have been implemented never fail you, which is great. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Far Cry 5 is basically perfect and my only gripe is the technical issues it suffers with every now and then, but these issues are only small and they don’t really take anything away from your overall experience. Far Cry 5 has never looked or sounded better and the presentation side of the game really does deliver in all areas and when the beautiful visuals and excellent sound design combine together it makes things become even more immersive and enjoyable. At the end of the day I can see Far Cry 5 being game of the year for quite a lot of people and without a doubt I can definitely see it being in my top five games of the year already, which is very impressive considering it’s only March. I can’t recommend Far Cry 5 enough because they’ve taken what was good from the previous games and improved them quite considerably whilst also adding new features at the same time and fans of the series will absolutely adore this fantastic approach. Far Cry 5 is exactly what you would expect from a Far Cry game and not much more. It does the open world really well, but the bland story drags it down. The game touches a sensitive subject, but doesn’t have guts to actually say something and couldn’t convince me even for a minute that what’s happening could be real. What the franchise obviously needs is a new beginning, a leap of faith Assassin’s Creed Origins was brave enough to take. [05/2018, p.56]
