The gunplay and shooting mechanics surprised me a great deal because I didn’t expect them to pack as much of a punch as they did and I didn’t expect them to be as fluid as they were. There isn’t a huge amount of depth available when it comes to the game’s story what is available has actually been done pretty well. There are a few problems when it comes to the presentation side of things but on the whole I enjoyed what both the visuals and sound design delivered to me. The world in which the game takes place is big it just doesn’t hook you and that’s mainly because it lacks excitement and livery. Technically the game suffers with an array of issues which hold the game back. Each quest I went on in the game lacked excitement and there wasn’t much fun to be had along the way. There is a lack of variety present in the enemies you face in the game as well. In terms of replay ability the game doesn’t have much at the moment because everything is repetitive. I’ll admit to you now that I had some reservations when I first learned that Fallout 76 was going to be online only and by the looks of different forums I wasn’t the only one who had reservations with this. I love the Fallout style though so I was ready to look past this and play Fallout 76 with my mind completely open, and that’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately though after a brief amount of time it became clear that this game is filled with problems and in a way it just doesn’t have the formula the previous game’s had. I always enjoyed traversing in the previous Fallout game’s, but traversing around in this game just lacked it's the fun of its predecesors. The quests are further hindered by the various technical issues in the game and when it’s all said and done there’s just too many issues which in turn hold the game back. At the end of the day as it stands at the moment I can’t recommend a higher score for Fallout 76 to you because it just has too much wrong with it. This is a shame because it does get some things right like the solid gunplay but the good things it does get right are quickly forgotten and in the end all that you’re left with is a shell of what the Fallout series has always been. Hopefully updates in the future will make theme more enjoyable and what it was intended to be from the initial concept. Expand

Bethesda has taken a great series of games and ruined it with this latest release of FallOut. I have played them all since the release of the first FallOut, always trying to finish the game to 100%. Now they add this horrible version known as FallOut 76. It is indeed, the worst in the series I have played. This has ruined the FallOut saga for me.

Fallout 76 feels like a work in progress. An EARLY work in progress. Still, if I’m judging the game entirely on whether or not it’s entertaining me, it’s actually a lot better than most are giving it credit for. Oddities and bugs aside, it’s fun if you get over your sequel expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I challenge those leaving 0 and 1s to show us videos of their gameplay because im gonna call them out on their BS. These are fake reviews. I spent 20 hours playing the game and found a number of bugs and issues yes, but none as game breaking as these whining little brats want to let on. Let me break down bugs i saw. (Unable to find world): simple reset fixed it. Mission objectives not showing up. Reset fixed. Massive lag in certain areas (simple reset again). Seeing a common feature here? Same thing all other MMOs suffer from with half the whining. You dont like the game we get it, stop leaving fake reviews and go play your barbie games. This game is not for everyone. Personally i hate having to watch over my shoulder when looting junk because some random guy can kill you for it. Easy fix though...avoid people like you would in reality and drop the gear in your stash every chance you get. Easy fix.
    Pros:
    Graphics are really good.
Gameplay is fun but can get monotonous over time
Combat is from FO4 which some are familiar with
    Leveling up system
    Cons:
    Bugs
    Leveling up system
Players can kill you for any reason

I can go on for more cons and pros but this was mostly to show yhe game is not as bad as the whiney naysayers are claiming it to be. $60 for it is not bad.

At first I was a little disappointed in that but there are two very good reasons for that, First: You are supposed to play with your friends! it was created to play together and my Wife and I are having a blast playing together and enjoy running into other players and figuring out if they are hostile or friendly and making new friends, It's great! Second: everyone died in the apocalypse! you are the first people to come out of the vault and need to rebuild, and they are true to that concept but there are still deep and emotional stories everywhere for you to find and experience, I find the stories of the people that lived and tried to survive after the bombs fell a very engaging story line for you AND your friends to find and talk about. in other multiplayer games when there is a NPC, what happens? a bunch of people are crowded around them and it breaks the emersion, I think this was a better way to do it and there are still robots that act as NPC's when necessary. please give this game a try, it is not really a single player experience (I wouldn't mind it) but if you wanted to play fallout 4 with your friends this is a great way for you to do it with and I think we are going to spend a lot of time really enjoying this game.

Loot is level locked. PVP is invite initiated. There are no human NPC's. Every mission is mind numbingly repetitive. The "story" is told through hundreds of holotapes cause, again, no human NPC's. It looks absolutely terrible for a 2018 game and runs like hot garbage. Shall I go on? I was very, very excited about a new Fallout title, it's one of my all-time favorite game worlds. The graphics are amazing, the world is beautifully detailed...but there's a problem. There aren't any people. The quests are all driven by either Robots or Audio tapes. The cities and towns aren't lived in because there aren't any human NPCs to be seen. It's dull, lifeless and boring. Human players are sparse on the ground as well. They're scattered all about the massive world and encounters are few and far between.

I was okay with multiplayer because the expectation I had was that it'd be Fallout 4 with Human NPC mission givers and other non-human NPCs wandering out. I figured the choice system for dialog would be there as well for interaction and an awesome branching storyline you and your friends could help shape. Nope. There's none of that.

Now, I'm not going to just complain. I've got an idea on how this can be fixed, if it's something Bethesda decides to fix.

    1. Populate the safe areas with NPCs
    2. Write the story that's seriously lacking with branching choices and meaningful decisions.
    3. Since it's multiplayer, and generally fallout follows a 3 or 4 choice dialogue selection, with one being good, one being bad and the other neutral...with some specials thrown in depending on charisma and the like...make it a "vote" when in a group. So, a tally of the selected dialogue options displays to the player, so if 3 of the 4 selected choice 'b' and the last guy picked 'c', well 'b' is what the group gets. In the case of ties, the neutral choice is the winner by default.
    4. To group likeminded players together, use the karma system that's been in place for forever. This system would help to get likeminded players together for the purposes of decision making. So, if a player has a habit of selecting the 'bad' choice on their own, or in a group, the game will keep track of that and display an icon of some sort to let other players know that's someone they want to play with for a likeminded experience.

Something along those lines would keep the multiplayer aspect, provide longtime fans of the game a bit more of what they were expecting, and help form and solidify player interactions and the community. Honestly though, unless a major overhaul of the present system happens, I will more than likely not be playing the game anymore. It's boring and lifeless and a real drag to play.

I'm supposed to believe every single human survivor suddenly died in the last few months to 3 years? There's TONS of evidence of people that were here recently but NOT ONE of them is alive? Okay....

Second, this game is buggy even by Bethesda standards. It lags and glitches extremely often on every system. The Xbox one X is the worst though. Many people complain they have no audio, though I don't have this issue. The issue I and a ton of One X users have is an issue with "overheating". I put that in parenthesis because the system isn't actually overheating. It's a bug that shouldn't even be possible but Bethesda's legendarily bad programming has found a way. It happens most often when fast traveling or leveling up but can really happen at any time. I rarely play more than 20 minutes without the system shutting off and I've never played over an hour at a time.

This game was not even remotely ready for release, and Bethesda should be ashamed that they pushed it out anyway. Absolutely disgraceful.

Technology-wise, it is Bethesda at its *finest*. Bugs-galore. Performance is right out. I have an Xbox One X and when I say the game chugs along at 15-ish fps in public events I'm being generous. Couple that with the game not reacting under those conditions and you got a recipe for disaster. Forget firing your gun at mobs, or even moving, if it's not the terrain bogging you down it's the melee attacks of the mobs, which under 10-15fps you simply cannot outrun or move away from. Forget about getting a stimpack going and surviving, that's right out.

If this game ran at 60fps or had better graphics on my Xbox One X I could see it as a technology demo but right now it is far from a demo of anything but mediocrity.

This is not "Fallout with multiplayer", this is a multiplayer walking simulator with guns, in a Fallout world, nothing more.

Give this one a pass. They can patch out all the bugs, even improve the performance, but I highly doubt they can ever make this game fun.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
