I originally was going to pass on this game until a good friend recommended it. I must admit that I was initially hooked and really enjoyed playing both solo and teaming up with my friend. I must admit that I was initially hooked and really enjoyed playing both solo and teaming up with my friend. On the rare occasion that you encounter another player, nobody has attacked me. In fact, most players want to team up or trade. I've even been revived by other players who just happened to be in the area. The map is gigantic and was exciting to explore at first, but the game quickly becomes a boring, repetitive slog with minimal challenge. I give Bethesda credit for trying this experiment, but Fallout76 fails as a RPG and as a FPS. They might have been hoping that players would team up and battle other teams- and perhaps that happens, but I haven't experienced that. Scrounging is an essential component for Fallout- and there's plenty of it, but it really sucks when you're exploring a new area and you realize that another player had been there recently and already took everything and killed everything. There are a number of public events that you can join, but after I did an event once, I found little motivation to do it again. There are also Daily, Weekly, and Character Challenges that reward Atom Points which can be spent in the Atomic Shop. While it's easy to rack up Atom points, everything in the store is purely cosmetic. You can also purchase Atom points, but who would spend more money on Atom points when there's nothing but costumes, Photomode Poses, profile icons, emoticons, and a variety of superficial junk you can use in your CAMP? It's logical to deduce that Bethesda intended to offer player "advantages" in this shop (i.e. weapons, armor, Perks) but I guess it would've been too obvious that Fallout76 was never really meant to be a challenging, fun multiplayer experience; sadly in the end, it was just a cash grab. Enjoying the game when it comes to combat, would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't so buggy with teammates going invisible after fast travel/entering buildings, t-posing enemies and more.
Still enjoy coming back to the game even if it can be lackluster, jumping around doing events is the only thing driving now.
Hoping things will get fixed and that the dlcs will be worthwhile.

From day one the game was as buggy as heck, the worst I have ever seen but I was willing to put up with it for a while. There is no story, no end game and not a lot to do other than very repetitive "go here & find this" missions but often the glitches in the game meant having to repeat the mission as you didn't get the reward. This is a perfect example of how NOT to make a game.

Following a server crash in early December I have now been unable to connect to the servers for 2 months & Bethesda support has been useless & often going in little circles. Every update I am sent back to square one with the customer support or told to ask the retailer for a new game code as Bethesda are not responsible for issues with codes purchased through a third party.
The Game is awful & should be pulled, the customer service is worse. In order to get a refund I am now seeking legal advice as the game is not fit for purpose, is not as originally advertised & does not meet the promises made by Bethesda over graphics quality. The gaming engine is the same as fallout 3 & is very outdated, Bethesda are trying to milk a cow that died years ago.
Avoid the game unless you like wasting money.

No human NPC's, no story, "public events" that glitch out and fail or pass you at random. And that's just one session.

Graphically I think it looks good in 4k. Obviously some of the texture detail up close looks like crap but overall its an upgrade imo. Multiple "stability" patches later and the game can barely handle a party of 4. Mostly a mix of new players and day one vets (most of whom grief the newbies out of boredom. GG Bethesda). PvP is set up in a way that actually encourages griefing and regularly happens between a lvl 100+ and a lvl 20 (and damaged is NOT normalized). Its mind blowing how naive Bethesda is about how people play online games.

The gameplay loop is fun but the online aspect of it simple does not work on any front be it technically, gameplay or design and execution. No Todd, it, it just doesn't work.

I've been a Bethesda fan boy since Morrowind. MORROWIND. I always had the greatest respects for Bethesda for creating massive worlds with easily 100's of hours of stuff to do and accomplish. Fallout 3 will forever remain my favorite Bethesda title for bringing a post-apocalyptic setting to life so well. However, Fallout 76 is where Bethesda ends for me. It feels like I got slapped across the face by Todd Howard's flaccid dick based on how big of a disappointment this game is.

    PROS:
There are a few new weapon/enemy variations that spices the game up from the typical Fallout formula. That's it for pros.

    CONS:
This game feels like a horribly ported mod for Fallout 4. It LITERALLY feels like an online mod for Fallout 4. There is absolutely nothing new besides the above listed. I can't describe how disappointing this experience was. I grinded nonstop hoping at some point that the game would get better. Hell, I hit LEVEL 110 AND IT WAS STILL GARBAGE.

The online doesn't work art all. Seeing Zenimax (the guys who did ESO: Online) it's shocking that they could make a much bigger game like ESO work but not Fallout. Granted, there are at least 10 studios that worked on this game which may be the main reason why it ended up as such a disaster. The graphics are exactly the same as Fallout 4. God rays come out of the f'ing ground (good job Todd). It still has the same old signature Bethesda textures where everything looks like ass up close. It also has BUGS FROM FALLOUT 4. Modders in Fallout 4 LITERALLY MADE A PATCH TO STOP BUGS IN FALLOUT 4. YET THOSE SAME BUGS GOT PORTED TO FALLOUT 76 UNPATCHED. At this point, I feel the modding community should own the rights to Fallout being that they do a better job than Bethesda's devs.

Now let's talk story. There is none. Okay, there is. But it sucks. You just go around the map, pick up holotapes. Done. That's it. There are ZERO human NPC's. This is Fallout 76's biggest downfall because NPC's are what bring the world to life. But because of Todd's terrible misdirection to make YOU, the player the NPC (no one acts like that).. we end up with this shallow, empty, soulless, obvious cash grab by Bethesda.

I loved Bethesda ever since I discovered Morrowind. I considered Fallout 4 a low point in their work because the story fell short for me but mod support reassured me that it was a good game because mods fixed a lot of what was broken in Fallout 4. However, Fallout 76, I hope remains on a **** list forever as an example as to what not to do when you decide to become a game dev. I don't know what to say, Bethesda. You **** it up.

I wouldn't even recommend this game if it was $20. The price has already dropped to $35-$40 and I feel cheated because I paid a full AAA $60. Thanks, dark souls.

When I bought this game I tried hard to love it like I've loved the previous Fallout games, but this one just doesn't have it. The world is interesting, and can be beautiful, but that doesn't save this game. Too many problems already exist. Even now with most of the bugs fixed, there are fundamental problems with design of the game. With a Fallout game, we expect to have choices, to make meaningful decisions, but this option does not exist here. There aren't any human NPCs, and there aren't any options for dialogue. Theoretically this was supposed to be made up for by interacting with other players, but it just doesn't work in the way that it should. I gave this game a 5 because it has moments of real brilliance, where everything clicks, but it doesn't happen often enough to justify the purchase. Expand

The stash limit also becomes a liability when you run out of room to stash your gear because of all the junk you've collected. The amount of bugs & glitches are just ridiculous, and unacceptable for a AAA title.

Above all, it just feels like an unfinished game, and I guess that's partially true. But it feels like it was rushed through development so as to be released in time for the holidays. This game had so much potential, and still does. But Bethesda has yet to show us that they have the ability to utilize it. First of all, the graphics and performance have to be the best I have and ever will see. The game looks so, so, SO amazingly perfect, that when I started to play games like Red Dead 2, Spider-Man PS4, and even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, they all made my eyes hurt due to how unbelievably good Fallout 76 looks. Plus, even with it's holy grail graphics, Bethesda somehow made this game run at a locked 60 FPS with 0 glitches. Woah.

The story is absolutely amazing(I'm not the spoiler type), the gameplay is addicting and nearly flawless, and the open world...OH BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fallout 76's world has by far the best use of space ever conceived in a video game. The sheer amount of stuff to do is insane. And to the people whining about the lack of human NPCs, let me just say: human NPCs were TRASH in the previous games, ESPECIALLY in New Vegas, AKA the worst Fallout game.

All in all, I'd give this game a 76 out of 10. By far the best use of code since the glorious Cory in the House on DS.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Background - gamer for life since the 90's. I've played Bethesda titles since Morrowind and fallout 3 to this one.

The good: This is a fine game, much like Ark, DayZ and other salvage / craft / build games. I like the systems in place to prevent griefing, and being randomly off'ed by other players - that takes something from the game that was good drama though. As a casual player, I'm happily missing it. the CAMP concept prevents situations in ark and other games where players fill the map and make it in accessible. It feels more fresh than other MMO's - I don't have to deal with feeling that I don't make any impact or the quests are non-nonsensically repeated (you can only kill someone once!) - quests like repeated supply drops or feeding the people just make sense as dailys.

    [SOME SPOILERS]

The bad - it glitches, I get T pose and sometimes it crashes, like once per session... that sucks. Lag rarely has led to me getting screwed in combat though, pretty equal to the boning that happens when playing other games of this type.

Criticism of negativity towards this game:
THIS IS A 'SOFTCORE' SURVIVAL GAME IN THE FALLOUT UNIVERSE - IT IS A DIFFERENT GAME TYPE

People are super upset about the deviation in formula, but if you take it at face value as a survival game it is fine in my opinion.

I can see how it deviates from Fallout - but I don't know how they could of done better with multiplayer fallout. Would people be that more happy to have NPC people standing in place giving quests versus robots? I guess. And the lore of this - its 20 years after the bombs! and, the whole deal of the quest (spoilers) is that beasts have killed all the survivors of the nuclear attacks proper.

Overall, I'm getting my 60 bucks worth with my nice base, main quest, and the friends I'm making (who are playing an awful lot despite all the **** :D )

The graphics are ugly with no textures or details. These graphic are overly bright and blurry. The controls and gunplay are terrible. Lastly they have the audacity to charge 60$ with microtransactions added in.Their is nothing done well at all in this so called game which is just a mindless walking simulator. This has to be the most boring and lacklust thing that i've ever experienced in a game. Expand

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
