This game is in my personal opinion absolute garbage. The story mode fights are either way too easy to win or physically impossible to win. Absolutely zero strategy and I don't see there being any strategy any time soon, perhaps UFC 12 will be a bit more strategic and may actually be an MMA game. This is an arcade meant for people who have nothing better to do than talk **** without any skills or knowledge of fighting, if you're one of those people this may be perfect for you. I recommend saving your money as the game is worthless, was an inch of a step forward from UFC 3 but still a multitude of things to work on, EA should stop the series before it gets too embarrassing. If you have UFC 3 you may as well just avoid this. Everything UFC 3 done right has taken a step backwards here.
Character models are the same old copy/paste models.. Some as far back as the UFC 1 models, even though several fighters now look drastically different. I put hundreds of hours into UFC 3 online and every match gave me that 'just one more' feeling. Not here. They've somehow taken

I put hundreds of hours into UFC 3 online and every match gave me that 'just one more' feeling. Not here. They've somehow taken the formula they had and ruined it. Knockout animations grow stale fast, after a huge amount of fans requested ragdoll physics.. They were just ignored. Backyard mode is nice, kumite is horrendous.. I dread seeing I've been put into a kumite match once I go into quick play.
I would much rather just have paid for a ufc 3 expansion that added backyard mode than this game, which feels like a rushed 'fancied up' ufc 3.
It needs so much work I wouldn't know where to start. I'm a huge fan, but this game carries an unacceptable price tag for what it is.. Ufc 3.1.

This game as it stands is nothing more than a failed attempt to try something different with an already sound game. Granted, a game cannot be the same every year and EA’s UFC 3 wasn’t perfect, but the game is just completely devoid of fun for me.

A big supposed aim of the development team was to not alienate new players by imposing simpler controls, with these controls being literally just changing the names of transitions on the ground, which is optional anyway. The standup controls have been changed by using different inputs involving holding down certain buttons. This was not only a very unnecessary change, but it also means that whenever I try to throw a lead body hook, I can instead more often find myself going for a single power leg takedown, which will more than likely just be very easily denied. Additionally, the stand-up severely lacks the excitement you felt when trading strikes in the previous entries, with each strike seeming to have little impact, and leaving you underwhelmed, and this is only if you manage to land a strike as the controls are annoyingly unresponsive. Furthermore, there is no drive to make you explore fighters to see which best fits your play style, with only the top 5 of the division ever being seen on online matches due to their higher stats.

The weakest of the gameplay mechanics has always been seen as the ground game, which personally I though was great, but still needed a few changes to keep it exciting, but this game has made it somehow worse to play, with the ground and pound being either overpowered or ineffective whatsoever. Additionally the new submission mini games are easy to understand, but rely on nothing more than frantically whirling your analogue sticks around or spontaneously pushing in the triggers to either secure of defend the submission.

The biggest gameplay update has been seen in the clinch gameplay, which has been turned into a more stand-up orientated mechanic, as opposed to grappling. Going back to the development team's aim of making the game supposedly more new-player friendly, they do nothing except throw you to the wolves in this regard. There are no transitions like in previous games to help you, with you simply having to hope for the best and completely figure it out on your own, which is deeply frustrating, and when you manage to deny that takedown or initiate that flying submission, you are clueless to what you have pressed.

Positive reviews for this game only look into the new features which it holds over the previous entries, what they fail to see is that the game is in dire need of improvement and will take a long time before it can be fully realised sequel, and not just following the saying of "new is better" because in this case it most certainly is not.

This is not a new UFC game. This is a DLC to ufc 3. The strikes are the same. The knockouts are the SAME and they are HORRIBLE. The ground and pound SUCKS. They were a year behind schedule and instead of adding things the players wanted like better knockouts and better ground and pound. They added necklaces and masks?? Masks to wear in the octagon? The community as a whole is disappointed with the game to varying degrees and its easy to see why, with the game being released in an unfinished state, and nearly two months later there have been very little in the way of improvements. Whilst not without potential, the game is likely 6 months away from a competitively viable state. If you're looking to blow your money on a game to play casually with friends then go ahead, it will be fun for those purposes, but if you're looking anything more than that, avoid entirely. EA Sports games definitely draw the ire of fans much more than other titles, but make no mistake this game is a disgrace compared to the previous instalment. Members of the top 100 in ranked are notorious for cheesing the game, the roster is missing large portions of the top 15 in every division, fighter balancing is a joke, as champions are far superior to any other fighter in the division, and to further add to the list the devs are gaining a reputation for ignoring the community if critical response becomes too negative, such as game changers asking for more realistic cosmetics for CAFs and being systematically ignored, as well as being ignored on gameplay advice in general. The advert controversy, whilst now fixed, is indicative of the decisions made by a headstrong dev team, whom having lost there gameplay lead, are obviously at a loss of how to balance a game, yet unwilling to admit their 'overhaul' of grappling, submissions, striking and the CAF system is killing this game where it stands. UFC 3 still has a big enough online community 2/3 years after launch, in it's current state UFC 4 will be a wasteland this time next year. Whilst the community pray for patches to have this game live up to its potential, the title being the last on EAs contract, and the dev teams blatant 'we know better than the community' attitude, I would not hold your breath. Shameful inclusion to a franchise which certainly had potential in it's budget. If you must play as Conor McGregor in a fighting game, buy UFC 3, or wait for this game to hit the bargain bin (most recently went down 50% on Amazon Prime Day, not two months after launch). Shameful use of the license. Expand

This year's iteration of UFC from EA Sports looks good, and feels good in parts - though the submission system just doesn't appear to be as much fun to play. The best parts of this game are the boxing and kickboxing elements, and the offline career mode is a fun mode to build and forge careers in. With really no other fighting titles to purchase this year, EA Sports UFC 4 will be unrivalled for those looking for another sports-like fighting game - and while UFC 4 is not a bad game, it doesn't do much to appeal to those who don't already have a love and appreciation for the sport or the brand.

EA Sports UFC 4 is a fun return to form for EA Sports. With a simplified approach to fighting and the inclusion of a more in-depth career mode, the UFC franchise is on the right track to building better things.
