Devotees of the franchise and newcomers alike may find a lot to love in Bethesda and id Software's update of the classic shooter. Though, after a while, the gameplay itself may get a bit redundant, there's still a smooth, well-oiled nature to the combat that just kept me coming back, day after day. An imperfect, yet still eminently enjoyable action romp.

I'm a huge DOOM fan since the original. I've played the whole series plus a ton of custom WADs. Bethesda did a great job recreating a modern DOOM. It has a lot of nostalgic moments (especially the Hell levels) and they added a solid mix of new gameplay. I wish the campaign was a little bit longer though. I haven't delved into the multiplayer yet so I can't comment on that.

Doom is a modern version of an iconic, classic shooter. It's fast paced, has satisfying combat, and above all, it's fun. This is one of the better campaigns in a fps I've played in awhile. While more could have been done with the multiplayer, it's still fun and has a very classic arena shooter feel to it.

There is no hiding behind an obstruction and laying waste to your enemies in Doom. You do that, you die. The only plan that works is never stand still, and get in close for gory kills as often as possible. Once I embraced that style of play, the game became ridiculously fun.

Doom is back in it's all mighty gore / fun styled adventure. The game is no insult to the franchise and instead is a solid update with fun shooting and platforming sections within it, If you've never played a Doom game before this is a great game to start with, the levels are so atmospheric, the enemies a worth splitting open and overall it's gory ride from start to finish.

I've had no issues with the controls as they seem typical to any other FPS. The soundtrack is fantastic and the ambient sounds are creepy. The enemy A.I. is super smart and the enemies will come after you. In order to survive this hellish nightmare you must run and gun, if you stand still--you will die. There is no time for strategy or memorizing enemy routines. Almost everything in the game can be upgraded in various ways (which is great for me). One point to keep in mind if your considering this game: it requires patience, you will die often regardless of your skills with other FPS games, luckily there are checkpoints scattered about. This game is more akin to the original Doom so it is nothing like Doom 3 (which some people have complained about) and has replay value (due to all the collectibles and trials) but once you've had your fill of the main Campaign sadly there is little left. In conclusion, if you are a COD, Destiny, Halo, or Battlefield fan then you will probably hate this game due the intensity and hardcore nature of this beast. Its basically a Run like Hell - kill anything that moves - don't stop running until the end credits roll, type of game that shows you no mercy--ever. Definitely a bloody good time while it lasts. Hands down my favorite game for Xbox 360 or Xbox One! I grew up playing the original DOOM games and this is the style of shooter we've been missing for nearly a decade: gore, violence, dash of story, and arcade-style play. I've played this game start to finish about 5 times. Doesn't get old. Also a great stress reliever.

Fast paced, interesting story, intuitive controls, and a wide range of enemies. I'm playing this game a bit late, but it deserved more mainstream recognition, the multiplayer is awesome too, although it seems as if the player base has dwindled, leaving it tough to find a match.

I had been waiting for this since Doom3 basically kicked me in the testicles and ran off with my S.I.N. card.

Not a huge fan of the quick-time-style kills constantly threatening to interrupt my flow through the game ... but I'll forgive them, because gore.

    D. Story - 5
the only down point in the game.
I know what most of people say about this. that this game doesn't need a story and I tend to agree, because the gameplay, stunning audio and visuals makes up for everything else. BUT never the less for a AAA 2016 game it should have a more decent story and it is quit a shame and disappointment considering the potential of pretty interesting lore. they could also throw some bad-ass cut scenes, why so cheap ?

    E. Content Vs. Value - 8
this is not on open game so naturally it is not that long. but aside from the campaign there are classic and arcade maps that you can and will replay again and again thanks to the Awesome OST like already mentioned before. there are secrets and collectables to find, weapon upgrades and challanges to complete.
the campaign is good but fells a bit too short.

    F. Controls and Mechanics - 9
Great but takes a bit longer to get used find fitting preset.

    G. Stability and Performance - 10
Perfect! for the whole campaign there were no noticeable performance issues, no crashes, bugs or glitches or anything that ruined the game from a technical aspect. THIS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS GRANTED.
Lately new games are being released in an incomplete and unpolished state which results in many bugs. glitches. FPS drops. Hard Crashes and much more **** that ruins your experience and makes you think why did I even bother with this game. even after whole year some games still have a lot of issues and no one bothers to fix them because they are busy releasing a DLC which will probably have the same issues. why do people accept this kind of crap *face-palm* .

Multi-player is great too I really enjoyed it but sometimes there was players who use just rocket, grenade launcher, chaingun and kinetic mine these are weapons for lame players. Also there are just 2 things I would like to change. 1. Bad team balance, 2. You can't play alone with bots without gold.

Then there is Snap mode where you can build or download new maps and play or create whole new campaign so another hours of fun.

After update the game looks little glitchy but nothing serious. Everyone now have DLCs that is good I can finally play as that overpowered demons.

With the release of Doom VFR, we thought we’d look back at the last main entry of the series. How does one go about rebooting the granddaddy of the first person shooting genre? By taking what made the original, which still holds up well today no less, and cranking everything to the max. Everything from the catchy industrial soundtrack to the trademark gore has been improved.

You’ll begin the game already on Mars, having been connected to a strange machine that someone, or something, placed the player in. Our unnamed protagonist quickly arms himself and sets out on a journey of destruction through Mars and the very pits of Hell. Unlike Doom 3, the game puts the story on the backburner in favor of a simple premise that focuses more on fast paced action than slow exposition. There is plenty of story available, but it’s optional.

Much like the original, the game runs at breakneck speed. If you stop moving, particularly in a firefight, you will die quickly. Unlike most modern FPS games, you don’t have a regenerating health bar, so you will rely on seeking out health kits as well as using the new finishing moves that have been implemented in this iteration. After taking a set amount of damage, most enemies will begin flashing which is your signal to get in close for the kill. These are satisfying and needed to replenish small amounts of health.

You’ll find all of your original tools of destruction are present and accounted for. The biggest change to the arsenal is the addition of secondary firing modes, which are unlocked and upgraded by completing challenges in the campaign; some are a bit grindy, but worth the work. The only disappointment was that the chainsaw, which was a personal favorite, is now a pick up with a limited amount of fuel.

Much like the original, each level features a number of secret areas and short cuts, which rewards the player for exploration. You’ll find upgrades for your armor, weapons, as well as a small number of collectibles and the newly added runes. Finding a rune will unlock a short challenge, which if successful, unlocks an upgrade that can be used in the main campaign.

If you missed any collectibles or secrets, you are able to use the chapter select to head back with your newly acquired upgrades. The only low point of the campaign is the lackluster boss fights, which essentially set you loose in an arena against one of the game’s bigger enemies. These are more frustrating than fun, as the bosses are essentially large bullet sponges with a limited number of attacks, some of which are instant kills, leading to plenty of unfair deaths. Thankfully, there are only a few of these encounters.

In addition to the standard campaign, which clocks in around six to eight hours depending on your skill and selected difficulty, you have the option to play each completed level in the post release addition of the Arcade mode. This is similar to a score attack mode, limiting the player to certain weapons and removing any unlocked upgrades, leveling the playing field for those who wish to partake in the leaderboards.

On the multiplayer front, there are a number of options as well. While the PVP arena isn’t as populated as it was at launch, I was still able to connect to a game after a short wait. The multiplayer suite offers the standard game modes found in most FPS games. These modes are just as fast paced as the single player campaign, and in full lobbies can be fun despite the fact you will die and die often. Unlike most of the FPS counterparts, I found myself often laughing at my failures opposed to getting frustrated, which is a nice change.

I’ve spent the most time in the multiplayer arena playing with the new Snap Map feature, which allows players to create their own levels using a number of easy to use tools. They can then be uploaded for the community or friends to play. With hundreds of options available with varying levels of quality, there are a limitless number of replay options offered here. This feature also allows us the option to use old school visuals with the newly modeled enemies as well as to create a party with up to 3 friends for some co-op shenanigans.

While the game is lacking the survival horror element that was introduced in the last entry, it is a well-made shooter worthy of any gamer’s collection; especially those of us who are familiar with the original’s brand of ultra-violence.

Now going off topic here, usually you when some people are in a bad mood they like to listen to calm music or look at cute things to feel better. It's so refreshing to not be put to play defensively, cowering behind cover and just point and shoot. Doom delivers the most fresh gameplay experience in a while.

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.
