A utter disapointment to the treat that was 2014's wolfenstein the new order, DOOM sports beautiful visuals and fun weapon designs but dosen't really justify the 100AUD/60USD that the game is worth. Heres a quick rundown of what you will expect.

    Pro's
+ The game is beautiful no doubt and made the transition from E3 presentations to home platforms without any major downgrades
+Weapon design is great all guns look beautiful and handle well at blowing your enemy to pieces
    +Easter eggs are fun
+The game is hard especially on Nightmare proving an extreme challenge for even the most hardened of video game veterans

    Neutral (don't impact final score)
/ Sound design is great..... when it actually works, the sound on my game broke 2 hours into my first playthrough and requirded a new save file to fix.
/ Fast paced shooter elements are fun but eleminate any stratergy that might otherwise have been used. There is literally a crouch button in the game with little more than the purpose to enter secret area's.

    Negatives
-The game is formulaic and every mission is brought foward as destroy these monster shires survive a wave of hellspawn, go to the next shrine and repeat with the only major variation being if there is a new major boss.
    - Multiplayer is God awful and presents the worst old school and new elements of arena shooters with little need to play other than to get all achievements
-Story is weak and otherwise falls apart pretty early on in the first act
-Monster encounters are expected and devalue the games horror elements
-Lots and lots of bugs e.g disapearing sound, poor hit detection, enemies freezing in motion

Not on the same level as Doom 3 or Resurrection of Evil. This is just a mindless, overly-fast-paced "dude bro" style shooter. If running around and breezing through enemies is your thing, you'll love this garbage. If you liked the survival horror style of things that Doom 3 provided, then you will be extremely let down by this game.

Youre not old school, youre just old.
While I loved the original doom, when i was a kid....the 2016 reboot failed to capture the excitement and glee I once felt.
I lie, i was excited up to playing the game, then it all went wrong. Sure sure its slick, the graphics are gorgeous and skyboxes and lighting is great, but i felt like a moron while playing. It made me feel silly. It worked

People are saying its the most violent game theyve ever played?.... is it? its got a few cool glory kills but after id done about 5 i was over it. the rest is blood mists with some gibbs mixed in.
missions are basically arena style sections with keycards or basic objectives to find or complete.
worth trying as this may be your thing but i seriously recommend watching playthroughs or waiting for a 20 pound/dollar price drop.

Game feels tired. Uninspired. Clunky. Slow load times. Stripped down multiplayer mashup of Halo/Destiny without any of the fun parts. I enjoyed the fast pace and focus on using different weapons to their advantages. Colorful. But tired. Made by tired old men who just want to buy their wives a new kitchen.

This game's high ratings prove that most of us truly have the attention span of goldfish. This was simply an ADD fueled chaotic mess of bullets and explosions. This was simply an ADD fueled chaotic mess of bullets and explosions. DOOM 3 was far superior and should have built off of what that game did right, not for the sake of sales, but for the sake of quality. DOOM 3 had patience, atmosphere, lore, and still managed to pull off some of the most gruesome and epic boss fights in FPS history. These were elements that made it stand out from the COD multiplayer, DLC, micro-transaction gaming world that soon developed. DOOM 4 resorts to a cheep arcade style which, yes, is nostalgic, but sorely lacks in potential, especially when considering you'll pay 60$ or more for it. 60$ for an arcade game that will get old in a month at most. When I heard DOOM was coming back I didn't think I would be playing Call of Duty with demons. The game fails to take itself seriously. Now I am not knocking the artists or any of the ingenuity at hand here. The graphics and designs look great. The problem is the lack of atmosphere and depth which were great additions to the series in DOOM 3. Could you imagine a dark and brooding DOOM that would genuinely terrify you with the graphics this game implored? That, and of course mixed-in sections filled with enemies and crazy loud music to get the blood pumping. Then simply up the difficulty and storytelling to appeal to the non-casuals and you would have an absolute masterpiece. That is what this DOOM should have been. Unfortunately, it isn't. I would not pay more than 35 dollars for it. I might pay 40 if that included any DLC. I've been observing the gaming industry and its development for some time now and I can promise you that a DOOM solely based on instant gratification will not hold the public's attention for long. It will sell great at first due to nostalgia factors, but after making that initial revenue it simply won't stand the test of time. I know this was a long read and I thank you for getting through it if you have. I have been a huge DOOM fan all my life and it pains me to see that this series has taken a huge step backwards instead of continuing to be an innovator of the FPS genre. Expand

Alright guys/some gals, I've been compelled to create an account for this one. I'm a Doom franchise fan, and this is by far the worst Doom game I've played. I'm writing this with the intention of saving my fellow world citizens a good $20 that you could use on far better things; certainly better than the $20 I spent on this game for Xbox One.

Let me just get my largest complaint out of

I'm writing this with the intention of saving my fellow world citizens a good $20 that you could use on far better things; certainly better than the $20 I spent on this game for Xbox One.

Let me just get my largest complaint out of the way first- the sound. The high-pitched, haphazard gun sounds, music, and that stupid damn high-note within the game menu just about drove me to the edge. I persevered through a few hours regardless thinking that there was a light at the end of the Doom tunnel, but no. Only some of the most half-hearted attempts at game atmosphere generation through sound/music awaited me. It was unbearable... not for lack of quality compared to the bulk of 2018's music as a whole, (not a **** high bar), but for a lack of effort in creating the eerie hellscape that the best Doom games have offered, (Doom 64 being my personal favorite).

Anyway, exposition aside- this game isn't fun. You are limited to melee being your best weapon against enemies in a transparent "cool, look at how bloody things are" direction the developer sets you on as opposed to any spontaneous tactical ingenuity that the best shooters make you perform. This game is a marketing pitch.

So many reviews proclaim this to be one of the best shooters ever. This is another reason I'm writing to you all right now. I value my video games as an escape, a source of relaxation, and entertainment. This game isn't even fun while you're drunk; this is a hypothesis I've tested today after reading some of the glowing reviews yesterday. I thought, "maybe everyone else is loaded playing this thing, and just killing things is way more entertaining then." Nope. It's still stupid.

One room after the next, killing about 20 demons that inconveniently spawn on top of you while you're killing another, and with the other demons taking a smoke-break while you "glory-kill" a demon, (a horribly stupid way that the game refers to you instantly punching an enemy to death once you've shot it once or twice). Seriously. While I was punching an imp to death, about 6 other demons just stood there watching and not trying to kill me.

There are plenty of "secrets" in the game that aren't so secret. It's really cool that the developers spent the time and effort putting them in there. What's not so cool is that there's a map feature in the game that shows you EVERYTHING. If you're like me, a gamer who likes to do their best at a game without crossing the line of way too much effort, then you'll be endlessly frustrated by this like I was. You have to stop and open your damn map to see where secrets are. The secrets benefit you by improving your character. You would be remiss not to find the easily shown secrets. This unfortunately means you have to hit the "select" button to open your damn map every 2 minutes to make sure you're not missing anything in the weird, apparently "made for multiplayer," map design of the campaign. It really takes you out of the Doom atmosphere and makes you feel like you're hunting for treasure in between rooms of generic demons.

It's boring. The sound is annoying. It's not a horror masterpiece like some of the Doom games. It makes you question why you're playing video games. It makes you feel stupid. It is stupid. You are much better served doing anything but playing this game. I'm giving it a 2 because it's Doom.

Most overrated and boring shooter in recent memory. Combat has zero depth, has poor balancing considering 2 weapons supershotgun and guass cannon break the game and is mind numbing repetitive. I see people claim this game has good story which is absurd.

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.

While we won't go anywhere near as far to say that this online facing side of the game is an afterthought, it doesn't carry with it the same sense of intense playtesting and meticulous detail as the solo campaign.

A tremendous return for an all-time great. Doom feels so fresh by being so old-school. [July 2016, p.75]
