If i had to describe doom in one word it would be METAL! everything about doom is metal to me from the brutal face melting soundtrack to the action packed fast paced campaign metal perfectly describes Doom
my only real gripe with Doom is the multiplayer it just doesn't seem to carry over to it. It felt slow and clunky at times but i recognize it could just be me

Campaign is a blast. Fast paced, gorgeous graphics, and fun physics. The multiplayer is lackluster reboot of any multiplayer ever with just Doom physics. Wish there was more campaign!

Doom is a modern version of an iconic, classic shooter. It's fast paced, has satisfying combat, and above all, it's fun. This is one of the better campaigns in a fps I've played in awhile. While more could have been done with the multiplayer, it's still fun and has a very classic arena shooter feel to it.

Doom is back in it's all mighty gore / fun styled adventure. The game is no insult to the franchise and instead is a solid update with fun shooting and platforming sections within it, If you've never played a Doom game before this is a great game to start with, the levels are so atmospheric, the enemies a worth splitting open and overall it's gory ride from start to finish.

Amazing campaign. Fast and Intense. Difficult, but not insane. Each level is filled with secrets and areas to explore that will make the dedicated players come back for more. The overwhelming count of enemies forces you to think quickly and always be moving.

I would have given a 9, maybe even a 10 without those unbearable loading times: 20 seconds between each death simply makes it impossible to replay on high difficulty level. Shame. Really.

Torn between an 8 and a 9 for this game. Story is, as to be expected for a DOOM game, minimally, but provides enough incentive to keep moving. The gameplay is the star though. And the unique style with those glory kills, honestly, I've never played a game where my heart would constantly be racing so much. I didn't get all the multi-creator content. I didn't get all the multi-creator content. Never been my thing, so I won't comment on that. But the single player, a huge blast. I know this game got knocked by some for being short, but I played through on the hardest difficulty level, which I find always extends the play time because I died a lot. A lot. But the gameplay was enticing enough that I kept thinking, okay, if I just do this next time instead, and I'd jump right back in. So, a blast overall. Expand

Best FPS this year so far! I loved the main campaign and enjoy multiplayer matches - free updates are a nice touch for sure. It's amazing how smooth the framerate is, even on Xone!

If you're looking for a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, this is it. Hilariously gory and plays like a dream. The weapon progression system is fun and provides lots of individuality and flexibility and the snap-map feature gives the game longevity. Boss levels are a riot. Fantastic game!

It has all the bells and whistles you would expect from a multiplayer FPS. It blends old school arena mechanics (unreal tournament, quake) with customization of both character and weapon colors. A wide variety of paints and skins to make your character and loadout sufficiently badass. The multiplayer suffers however in its lack of modes and minor balancing issues. Health and shield packs are smartly placed as are powerups. There are a handful of good maps and the modes are fun. Multiplayer as a whole isnt a nessesary addition, but its a nice add on. However I feel that if you buy Doom, Buy it for the Single player. That is where you will get the full DOOM experience. Expand

The story to this game isn't the greatest thing but it's not what the focus of this game was, This game is all about the gory action so keep that in mind. Multiplayer felt like a let down compared to the single player, In multiplayer it starts to feel similar to generic shooters like CoD, you have the standard upgrade and leveling system that gears itself towards experienced players so newcomers may find it difficult. The game does have a level builder that adds tons more of longevity to the game, people have made competitive maps, horde/survival maps and everything between. So if you enjoy high paced single player FPS's with a simplistic story give Doom a try, It's not a long game but enjoyable Expand

This is how a IP should be handled, when you look at the way SWBF was botched and even movies like GB ignoring past movies, DOOM is how it should be done.
It feels like DOOM but updated for modern times, its pretty much perfect.
Only gripes I had was the jumping in some areas was a chore but still they made it painless by allowing you to grab ledges and giving you a double jump.

Progression is perfect, doesn't bog the game down but gives you enough to keep you trying all the weapons and not just sticking with the double barrel shotty.
Enemies look great and add variety, none stick out as a pain in the ass but all come together to make you think while you move forward trying not to die.
Boss battles are done about as well as Ive seen them done in FPS, not too long and different from the rest of the enemies.
Gunplay is flawless, movement perfection. level design great.
Id love them to revisit the original solo quake, not sure if the new quake will be PVP only.

I've had no issues with the controls as they seem typical to any other FPS. The soundtrack is fantastic and the ambient sounds are creepy. The enemy A.I. is super smart and the enemies will come after you. In order to survive this hellish nightmare you must run and gun, if you stand still--you will die. There is no time for strategy or memorizing enemy routines. Almost everything in the game can be upgraded in various ways (which is great for me). One point to keep in mind if your considering this game: it requires patience, you will die often regardless of your skills with other FPS games, luckily there are checkpoints scattered about. This game is more akin to the original Doom so it is nothing like Doom 3 (which some people have complained about) and has replay value (due to all the collectibles and trials) but once you've had your fill of the main Campaign sadly there is little left. In conclusion, if you are a COD, Destiny, Halo, or Battlefield fan then you will probably hate this game due the intensity and hardcore nature of this beast. Its basically a Run like Hell - kill anything that moves - don't stop running until the end credits roll, type of game that shows you no mercy--ever. Definitely a bloody good time while it lasts. The mele-kills are **** awesome. When you see a demon about to die you can finish him off by a variety of executions.

I love this game because it makes you feel like a pure bad-ass hero, and not some sorry-ass dude from an HBO drama series. If you want a game with story. You came to the wrong place.

Delighted to see that Doom is willing to live up to it's name in the past. An unapologetic-nonsense shoot em up.

    2) The second issue is with the BFG itself. After selecting the BFG by pressing the A button, you want to return to your regular load out by pressing Y. But for some reason, the game automatically switches to the combat shotgun as the default weapon, and NOT the load out you've selected. Let me explain: You've got the rocket launcher and chain gun selected. You find yourself in a tough spot, so you press A for the BFG. You fire off one round of the BFG, and then press Y to go BACK to your rocket launcher/chain gun combo. The shotgun appears. You've go to reselect your weapons manually by using the weapon wheel - which has a chance of NOT working properly (as explained above).

These two major bugs can cause some frustration throughout the single player campaign. It happens over, and over, and over again. And completely messes up the fluidity of the arena-style combat.

Until these two bugs get fixed, the game will remain an 8/10 for me.

There is no hiding behind an obstruction and laying waste to your enemies in Doom. You do that, you die. The only plan that works is never stand still, and get in close for gory kills as often as possible. Once I embraced that style of play, the game became ridiculously fun.

doom is a first person shooter where you slay demons...
And you can do this in a variety of ways
as you progress through the game you’ll unlock new weapons…
and to upgrade these weapons you have to earn upgrade points by completing in level challenges, and finding collectibles..
Once you’ve unlocked all of the mods for a weapon, to get its mastery you have to complete another challenge…
This system really had me searching for opportunities as well as forced me to use every weapon at my disposal.
There are also rune challenges in these levels that unlock a rune that give you a special perk, which can also be upgraded by completing that runes individual challenge…
Doom for the most part starts fairly average..
I wasn’t impressed with the first few hours of the game at all…
But thankfully as I progressed further and started to unlock new mods and skills and the levels actually started to stand out from the crowd I started to really enjoy my time...
I was legitimately surprised at every twist and turn this game took me in…
Dooms combat can be pretty gruesome at time especially thanks to the glory kills…
but most enemies feel way too spongy for any of this to every feel truly satisfying and the novelty of the glory kill quickly wore off.
But for the most part you’re in a way solving a puzzle, pulling switches and killing waves of demons on your way…
I did get an opportunity to play on the games highest difficulty, and unfortunately playing a level on this difficulty is required for a trophy
and I say unfortunately because it’s not fun…
it really highlights the cheapness certain enemies have..
You’ll die in this mode with 1 hit easily…
Which isn’t too big of a deal if certain enemies weren’t so cheap with their attacks... mainly the demons that throw fire balls… they have extreme accuracy and can climb walls…
you literally wont see your death coming..
And if you die here you start the level all the way from the start.
    It’s just not worth it…
There is a multiplayer mode here too
6 different match types that you would recognize from most other first person shooters like team death math or domination with their own doom twist for example instead of kill confirmed you harvest souls instead of collect dog tags
You unlock weapons abilities and demons as you level which can honestly throw the balance of a game out the windows as the higher level players who are already at the time in advantage also have the stronger loadouts and demon spawn ins…
luckily the demons don’t feel all too over powered.. But they are definitely fun to play as and worth the effort to try and grab the demon spawn stone before someone else does...
The doom multiplayer is super addictive and rivals the likes of killzone 2 as one of my most favorite multiplayer modes in a game…I can easily see players sticking around until the next doom comes out
there’s also a super deep snap map mode here that lets you create scenarios, edit ai, sound lighting, spawn points and connect different logic chains for a nearly endless amount of scenarios
If you don’t feel like creating, you van also hop into other peoples published maps.
    Doom is a great game
    There’s something here for everyone...
a 12 hour single player campaign, a varied and addictive multiplayer, and a snap map mode to get your Picasso on.
    I give doom an 8.9/10

However the biggest takeaway from the game is the single player mode, something that almost all other FPS games are starting to leave on the cutting room floor. The single player is the reason to play the game. While the story is anything but original its the way the Doom Marine interacts with everything that really gives it the flair it needs. In short, he wants to destroy everything that is associated with Hell and he doesn't care who gets in his way when he does it. The weapons are fun to use and some of the add-ons for the guns are good. I really wish, other than the couple of addons for certain guns, that you could precise aim with a button push but it is something you can get used too after a bit of playing. There are a ton of collectibles in the game, which I found myself going back and replaying to get everything. The only knock I can put on the game is the multiplayer and how boring it is. If you want to play a multiplayer FPS go play all the other games that focus on multiplayer. This game was meant to played for it's single player and that's what I recommend everyone who buys it to focus on. That's where the heart of the game lies. Expand

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.
