An update that's both fresh and willing to try new things yet simultaneously faithful to the original. Finished the game in single player and it gets top marks from me. It's a fantastic old school shooter, that has transitioned well to modern gaming. It's fun all the way through - I have not had this much fun in a single player shooter since Bulletstorm. Everything just flows perfectly. The way you get health (from Finishers), to the way you get ammo, to the way you use the environment and of course the soundtrack - it's a pure run and gun fun event from start to finish. About the only gripes i could have with it, is the clunky upgrade screens (too many clicks, too many options, not all of them are worth it) and the final boss. It's a must have game for shooter fans - there really is no excuse not to buy this, even just for the single player. Expand

This is how a IP should be handled, when you look at the way SWBF was botched and even movies like GB ignoring past movies, DOOM is how it should be done.
It feels like DOOM but updated for modern times, its pretty much perfect.
Only gripes I had was the jumping in some areas was a chore but still they made it painless by allowing you to grab ledges and giving you a double jump.

Progression is perfect, doesn't bog the game down but gives you enough to keep you trying all the weapons and not just sticking with the double barrel shotty.
Enemies look great and add variety, none stick out as a pain in the ass but all come together to make you think while you move forward trying not to die.
Boss battles are done about as well as Ive seen them done in FPS, not too long and different from the rest of the enemies.
Gunplay is flawless, movement perfection. level design great.
Id love them to revisit the original solo quake, not sure if the new quake will be PVP only.

Doom is a brutal masterpiece; a step into the past to show the modern market that the old formulas still work in an oversaturated, corridor shooting gallery market. It seems to often today that we are bombarded by Call of Duty style simplistic campaigns where a straight line punctuated by explosions designed to give Michael Bay an erection. This design has worn thin and Id and BethesdaDoom is a brutal masterpiece; a step into the past to show the modern market that the old formulas still work in an oversaturated, corridor shooting gallery market. It seems to often today that we are bombarded by Call of Duty style simplistic campaigns where a straight line punctuated by explosions designed to give Michael Bay an erection. This design has worn thin and Id and Bethesda have listened to the customers and have given us something so refreshing and nostalgic at the same time that you can't help but get your demon murder chub on.

Doom 2016 was to be a direct sequel to Doom 3 but according to developers was looking like Call of Doom. So, the Elder Scrolls Gods and Id Software went back to the drawing board and look at the original designs of Doom and what made it special. Shooting, lots and lots of shooting...with buckets of gore.

This games stands on several areas VERY strongly: Graphics, Sound Design, and TIGHT gameplay.
First, Graphics: This game has some of the best volumetric and particle effects in a game as of late, and for such a retro feeling title, has a REAL current (next) gen feeling on all three systems (played it on PC and Xbox One). This is even visible in the first minute of the game, where sparks shower from damaged wiring above your head, and steam from vents pumps out into corridors. Enemy design and weapon animations are top notch and show a love the lore, the past, and where they want to go. Unlockable character and weapon models are actually fun to look at as they are animated (this is fluff stuff) and show the minute level of detail put into each enemy you will eviscerate and each weapon that will be doing the former.

Sound design: Top notch, truly epic and unnerving at the sametime. I played this on a headset and recommended that or full surround sound to REALLY get the blood pumping. Demons are guttural, weapons echo with unleashed discontent, and the music metal as f**K where it staccatos the action sections perfectly and makes you feel like a combat murder God.

Gameplay: Best in years. Level design is built into this and harkens back to original Doom design; levels are non linear after the first level (training wheel right?) and key card hunting has returned. Secrets litter each level and built in challenges in each level not only keep things interesting and challenging but also are useful for upgrading your weapons. Segway into weapons, all weapons feel powerful sans the pistol and have amazing mods that give the game a RPG-lite addition that at first I though would be out of place....but its not! Weapon changes turn your simple combat shotgun into a grenade launching or triple blasting monster early game, where later a chain gun can turn into a Nonuple barreled monster that would make a GAU-8 Avenger piss itself. There are some armor upgrades that are helpful but not intrusive to where it could become a focus, and thus it fits well. Staples are back like the BFG and Chainsaw, but are so powerful they are leashed by low ammo for both (yes chainsaw has fuel) to make them utility weapons and thus not make the game "easy mode" but still keeps them SUPER fun and awesome to use. Shooting in the game is superb and retro...you will carry ALL the guns and shoot ALL the things with extreme prejudice and NO reloading (sans cycling the combat shotgun and reloading the super shotgun). The gameplay feel kinetic and VERY fast, as you will zip around with all the speed of the original doom and shoot hot hate shrapnel at everything that moves.

Story: it is there and fits as lore. It is simple but fun, and most importantly, NOT important...this is a game ALL about gameplay (naughty Dog you pretentious studio) so the story does not get in the way. No proper cut scenes, you start killing 5 seconds into the game, and there are only a couple spots where the game slows a moment for story, and such points have Easter eggs and things to see so it doesn't disrupt thing terribly.

Multiplayer is fun but not amazing, so come for the campaign. Snapmap is pretty cool and I hope they flush it out more with updates because I see TONS of potential with it.

I grew up playing the original DOOM games and this is the style of shooter we've been missing for nearly a decade: gore, violence, dash of story, and arcade-style play. These are the types of games I love the most; arcadey, fast-paced, relatively short, and very replayable. That's not to say that I don't enjoy other kinds of games or genres, but it is these experiences that I love to revisit over and over again. I've been playing for 4 years now and it hasn't gotten even the slightest bit old.

The game has a story, sure, but neither the game nor the DOOM Guy give a f*ck about it, so it is very clear that you shouldn't either, that's not the focus. For those curious, the game does offer quite a bit of lore and details about what's going on, so if ya wanna take the time to understand it all, it is all right there to be consumed. I myself don't really care, so for all intent and purposes all that matters in this game, is that a portal leading to Hell has been opened in Mars and your job is to absolutely annihilate anything that comes out of it in the most brutal way possible, and eventually take the fight to Hell itself.

Doing that job is very easy, as the game gives you all the tools you need to rip and tear through all of its levels, filled to the brim with Easter eggs and secrets to find. As you go along you'll get more and more weapons to use. It all starts very standardly, a little gun with infinite ammo, and a shotgun. Eventually, however, you'll start getting weapons more and more insane; a Plasma Rifle, an Assault Rifle, a Rocket Launcher, a Chaingun, a Chainsaw that runs on fuel but can cut through almost everything, and of course, the mother of all weapons, the Big F*cking Gun-9000, which destroys basically anything, just to name a few.

As if that wasn't enough you can also upgrade these weapons, giving them new features, by exploring the gigantic maps and finding little upgrade robots. For example, you can upgrade the shotgun to fire an explosive shot, transform the Chaingun into a Mobile Turret, stuff like that. Pretty much all of these upgrades kickass and are a blast to use.

Should you be running out of ammo, you can perform brutal melee attacks against enemies with low health to do very violent glory kills, which give you life and ammo. Very rarely do I run out of ammo in this game, and even when I do I can take advantage of certain power-ups you can encounter every now and again, that either boost your speed, defense or put you in a berserker state to savagely tear any demon in your path in just one hit.

Speaking of the demons, the enemy variety is high. You have your standard fodder, your mobile demons that shoot fireballs, demons with jetpacks that shoot rockets, big dudes with lots of hp that shoot lasers, demons that teleport, Boss demons that are very satisfying to take down, and so many more, I love the enemies in this game, they each serve a specific purpose and multitasking never feels too hectic, especially because DOOM Guy handles like a dream, he's fast, responsive, agile, and throughout the course of the game, you'll get upgrades to his armor and movement, which also come in handy when the game slows down a bit more and asks ya to do some platforming, in order to break up the pace, keeping the combat fresh. It also in these slower sections, that you'll probably realize that this game looks gorgeous, the art style is so hellish, with very striking colors, I love it!

There are tons of things to keep track of, if you stay still you'll get your butt kicked, you gotta keep moving, constantly thinking of ways to deal with the threats up ahead, and on higher difficulty settings you'll truly feel like a one-man army doing the impossible, as some of the most intense heavy metal tracks play as you're destroying your enemies.

Like I said tho, the game does enough for me to break up the combat segments so that it doesn't get repetitive. It'll ask you to explore, find keys or secrets, platform about, put your skills to the test in some self-contained challenges you'll find in the levels, etc. There are tons more to do than just combat, the game knows how to break it up without it feeling like you're wasting your time.

This is a game that is meant to be played over and over, it's addicting, it's intense, it's satisfying and most importantly, so much fun!

The main story mode is enough for me to get my money's worth, but there's also a multiplayer mode, arcade mode, Snapmap, things like that. I haven't dabbled in those other features I have to admit, I just have way too much fun with the main adventure to even really care, but they're there should you want to try them out.

Honestly, what else can I say? I love this game, it's a masterpiece in my eyes, a shooter that is worth every little bit of money spent on it, and one of my favorite games of all time. I haven't played DOOM Eternal at the time I'm writing this, but I'm sure it'll be really good too.

Snapmap needs some improvements also.

Now on to the positives: great open level design for exploration and combat, enemies are varied which compliment the variety of weapons at your disposal, bosses that aren't just bullet sponges that only have one type of attack, exposition moments are few and far between, and Doomguy is one-dimensional in the best possible way. There's a lot of reply value that you just don't seem to get in FPS's lately. I was going to complain about how uninteresting the Possesed/Unwilling are to fight, but they're perfect for completing challenges to upgrade your weapon mods.

And I haven't even mentioned how great the graphics are for something that runs at 60fps (and the amount of video options there are, even on console) and Mick Gordon's exhilarating soundtrack.

If you want a fast pace shooter without reloading or sprinting amongst an absolutely brutal theme this is a must buy. The gun play and brutal takedowns are extremely satisfying.

If you are a classic doom fan you will appreciate the hidden levels scattered throughout.

Really happy with how this turned out!

This game is fantastic on every level. Score highly on every front. what stands out is gameplay, sound & music, graphics, presentation.
The secrets are neat, like original doom secrets. The multiplayer is expansive, and snapmap is one of the best level editors for console.

I bought it for my Atari jaguar, as i couldnt afford a pc at the time. And how effortlessly I adjusted to this new style of play was a testament to IDs skill as programmers. Playing Doom 2016 feels like an old pair of comfy slippers. The guns the demons the struggle for armour and health all translate to this game from the old and somehow manages to feel as fresh as it did 20 years ago. No story unless you read and pour through the bestiary and data picked up along the way just goes to show that while games like The last of us or even Quantum break are masterclasses in storytelling through videogames, Doom arrives to remind us that gameplay is king and quite right too. Take Bethesda, who killed it with the Wolfenstein franchise, and add that to what id did well in RAGE, and you get the hyper-violent, aggressively fast-paced, gorgeous shooter: Doom.

The campaign was amazing. It added unique platforming puzzles, something modern FPSs desperately need more of, and told enough of a story to be engaging but not so much that the cut scenes and set pieces were ever unwelcome. And if the secrets are not enough to keep someone going back, the upgrade system with weapons and the players suit, in addition to the sporadic rune challenges definitely will keep completion-ists occupied.

The multiplayer is also incredibly fun. It feels like the modern unreal tournament game that never will be haha. Morphing into demons, picking up power weapons, and blowing yours foes into shredded pieces of meat and bone has never been more satisfying.

Added bonus for gamers like me: the music. The music in the game, both thematic and the songs that coincide with the fiercest battles, are amazing! Mick Gordon kills it! I need to find a way to buy the soundtrack ASAP

You also have to look around and find stuff and find secrets and other stuff if you want to proceed which makes it not only fun but makes it rewarding in a way where you will feel like you are progressively getting better through the game, and you are! Now going off topic here, usually you when some people are in a bad mood they like to listen to calm music or look at cute things to feel better. Next, the soundtrack of Michael Gordon is so good ! It nails perfectly the atmosphere of the game;*

The multiplayer is not the best I have ever played, but is fun.
Some will say that the story is bad. But imagine if the story was any good : it would brake the immersion and would feel strange with the global tone of the game.
As I said earlier, the gameplay is extremely smooth and the game is teaching you very fast how to play.
In Doom 2016, there is no reload, no sprint, no way to aim ... and it make the game so special and unique.

The app shows me that 17.47 % of players have completed the game. You are giving positive reviews even though you have not played through the game. Why do you do that?

I will now write what I think of this game because I have completed it.

I first played through Doom 2016 and immediately after that I played through Doom Eternal. These are two completely different games, Doom 2016 is a superb first-person shooter, but Doom Eternal is something else. If you want to know what Doom Eternal is, please feel free to read my review.

I loved Doom 2016. The darkness, the blood in the facility from the humans trying to escape, control rooms where the humans desperately tried to fight the demons as they make their final stand. It really tells a story, tells the story of this hellish place on Mars.

When it comes to sound design, DOOM 2016 seems more realistic and modern, Doom Eternal feels more like a retro 90s game when it comes to the explosion and laser sounds.

Very well-designed levels and I never had to look from YouTube for how to play it. I felt that control was in my hands all the time and I knew what to do next.

This game hooked me to play it, I couldn't get my hands off the controller. I wanted to know what was going to happen, I wanted to kill the next monster in my way. If you have never played Doom game, you definitely have to play this game. You will not miss anything, and you will understand what this game series is all about.

They manage to modernize it just enough to attain relevancy with today's gaming crowd while simultaneously hanging on to the now old-school qualities that made the series so great in the first place. It doesn't matter how long you've been gaming. Whether you grew up playing Doom or not isn't a factor as just about everyone is sure to find something to love in this new Doom's campaign.

There's no ducking for cover here and waiting for your health to recharge. You want to live, you get out there and fight. What's great about Doom is that requires you to stay constantly involved in the action. There may be some health canisters here and there, but when you're running low in the middle of the carnage the only way to get your health back up is to tear your enemies apart. The new "Gory Kill" system encourages you to get violent. Performing one of these finishers will cause the defeated enemy to drop health and occasionally ammo. The gorgeously violence of these moves makes them even more appealing.

Doom is a brutal game. One that delights in it's gore. The more savage you are on the hoards of hell and the more you are rewarded. It's a very satisfying loop that really puts an emphasis on literally fighting for survival. The arena style combat is immensely satisfying. It really does make the game feel like a modernized version of the classic.

To also help capture the feel of the originals the levels are riddled with secrets and branching paths that hearken back to the maze-like levels of yesteryear. Exploring the other paths away from your objectives in order to hunt for loot on Mars leads to kind of an open-world feeling at times. The map system is a bit confusing and I get turned around once or twice, but I never got lost for significant periods of time like I did in the original.

Some modern touches to spice up the campaign include upgrade systems for your weapons, armor, and Doom guy himself. It feels a little odd and out of place at first, but really helps out later in the game when things ramp up. It's worth exploring to find the necessary things to bulk up.

The almost non-stop action of the campaign is one of it's greatest strengths. New enemies and weapons are steadily introduced, there are a few great boss battles, and it even manages to slip in some surprisingly decent first-person platforming. It's just the right length too. It ends just as the constant action makes you start to say "okay, this is enough." They knocked it out of the park with the campaign. Truly succeeding at merging old-school gameplay with modern sensibilities.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to test out the multiplayer due to issues with my Xbox One refusing to give me an open NAT despite my best efforts. While I can't give my personal opinion I can kind of pass on what everyone else is saying. The general consensus is that, while not really bad, Doom's multiplayer doesn't live up to the single-player portion of the game and likely won't hold your attention for long. Even if the mode was flat out bad though, it wouldn't do much to hurt the overall package. Doom's single-player offerings are so satisfying that the multiplayer practically inconsequential to the overall value of the game.

Even if the multiplayer ends up not being your thing you still don't need to worry about the longevity of the package. The "SnapMap" mode which allows you to make and share user created content has you covered. The tools are easy to use and allow for a lot of depth. The potential creations that can come and already have from this mode are sure to keep you coming back for more satisfying single-player (or cooperative) action.

Simply put Doom covers just about every aspect you could think of. It's got a highly replayable campaign, excellent source of user created content, and multiplayer. It also successfully revives the Doom series for a new generation while staying true to the formula. It really does feel like classic Doom, only modernized. The campaign alone is enough to cement Doom as one of the best FPS games to come out in years. In a time where FPS gams put more attention on multiplayer and offer meager single-player experiences, Doom shows up once again and gives gamers a campaign worth raving over and shows us that Master Chief isn't the only space marine in green armor that deserves our attention.

The single player is the reason to play the game. While the story is anything but original its the way the Doom Marine interacts with everything that really gives it the flair it needs. In short, he wants to destroy everything that is associated with Hell and he doesn't care who gets in his way when he does it. The weapons are fun to use and some of the add-ons for the guns are good. I really wish, other than the couple of addons for certain guns, that you could precise aim with a button push but it is something you can get used too after a bit of playing. There are a ton of collectibles in the game, which I found myself going back and replaying to get everything. The only knock I can put on the game is the multiplayer and how boring it is. If you want to play a multiplayer FPS go play all the other games that focus on multiplayer. This game was meant to played for it's single player and that's what I recommend everyone who buys it to focus on. That's where the heart of the game lies. Expand

Now, I am on Xbox One so bear with me, as there may be a little loading lag (yep it happens) but damn, going into the game after so many year is not only a pleasure it's joyous - that coming from a guy that never really understood the original, which was more a 'shoot the hell out of every corner' kind of game.

Today has been a lot of fun.

I don't like to over-complicate my decisions on games, it's hella fun and all I need to know, rather than £40 wasted like I just bought an Atari game in the 80's.

Buy it, try it. No game is for everyone but yes this one is for us!

Lowlights: The graphics are a little low resolution at times. A PC would likely put it to shame.

Repetitive like a lot of FPS

Highlights: Makes you feel like Ferris Bueller on his day off. Retro-gaming is re-visited. Need I say more?

While it's not perfect, DOOM stands as one of the best shooters that I've had the chance to play in recent years. It returns to an old-school style of gameplay that fans of the original games remember fondly. To such an extent that, if you didn't like either Doom 1 or 2, chances are you're probably not gonna think of this game as highly as others will.

First off, the game is gorgeous.

It returns to an old-school style of gameplay that fans of the original games remember fondly. To such an extent that, if you didn't like either Doom 1 or 2, chances are you're probably not gonna think of this game as highly as others will.

First off, the game is gorgeous. The UAC facilities are gore-soaked and impressive, the landscape of Mars would make Mark Watney proud, and the level designs of Hell look like they were ripped straight from the album art of a '90s metal band.

About the story... To quote John Carmack, "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." Just like in the original DOOM, the story in this game isn't the focus here, though the codex does offer some interesting back-story to many of the demons, weapons, etc. found in the game. The entire point of this game is killing demons and that's going to be what you'll spend most of your time doing with an arsenal of awesome weapons and the two meat tenderizers that DoomGuy call hands.

Despite what the fast pace of combat may lead you to believe, there is some strategy here. The Super Shotgun is powerful, but lacks any range. And obviously, you don't want to be shooting off rockets at point-blank distance. Also, simply being aware of explosive barrels and high-ground can just as easily be as lifesaving as the all-mighty BFG. The key to the combat seems to be taking advantage of your surroundings, maintaining constant movement, and choosing the right gun for the job.

One thing I greatly enjoyed about the game was the sense of escalation. You start off with the humble Combat Shotgun and only a handful of demons to use it on. However, as you progress, you find more weapons and bigger, stronger demons start rearing their ugly heads, hoping to get a piece of you.

The level design is rather impressive. The maps are massive and secrets are tucked away in all of them, including a hidden room that's taken straight from the original games, in all of their 16bit glory. The arenas, in which you often fight many of the demons, are also well-designed and make for fun firefights that leave you with many options in which to approach the combat.

Depending on the difficulty and how much time you spend looking for secrets, finishing up a single mission can easily take up anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (I played on Ultraviolence). Finishing up the story would take up a good 15 hours or so.

Though the campaign is the crown jewel, the multi-player is nothing to scoff at. Fans of arena shooters such as Quake 3 and Unreal would be right at home here. The combat is just as fast and chaotic as before. The biggest difference I can see being the decision of giving players loadouts rather than simply picking up weapons placed on the map. I have mixed feelings regarding this as it makes the game feel a little too much like many other modern shooters. However, it also keeps players from hovering around weapon spawn points on the map, which I've always found to be annoying in older online FPS games.

Another great feature worth mentioning is SnapMap. Id decided to toss in a remarkably in-depth map-building system that allows for the creation and sharing of custom content, ranging from co-op maps, to survival builds, or even a return to the classic Doom deathmatch.

In terms of content, there is a lot to play around with. There is so much, that I am completely comfortable with the $60 price tag. However, I can understand how some people would be somewhat cautious. If you're not sure about the gameplay, I'd recommend redboxing the game first and see if you like it before buying.

Kinetic, visceral, and impactful, DOOM delivers a delightful punch to the teeth to remind audiences what a shooter is supposed to be.

In DOOM, game-play comes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. And by game-play I mean gun-play and by gun-play I mean HOLY HELL these are some fantastic weapons! Shooting is fast-paced and fun. Strafing, circling, closing in for for a melee kill, I found myself constantly staying on the move to avoid enemy fire and the game rewarding me for a clever and aggressive play-style. Nearly all weapons have two different upgrade paths that you can switch up on the fly and not a single one isn't satisfying to use. Ammo is plentiful but not plentiful enough that you won't be swapping out your weapons regularly, and the increasing variety of enemies that require different approaches and tactics means you can't get comfortable with just one or two guns to see you through the day. The games signature "glory kills" are fast and satisfying, requiring you to "stun" your enemies with well placed gun fire first before closing in to finish them off. Each glory kill you pull off rewards you with extra health, a great little risk/reward mechanic that keeps the pace of the fight up and never sees you retreating from an enemy in search of more health. The chainsaw and BFG are perfectly implemented as well, incredibly over-powered one-hit-kill weapons with very limited ammo meaning you'll need to carefully consider when to break them out but always incredibly rewarding when you do.

Each level in DOOM is expansive and labyrinthine, as any good DOOM level worth it's salt should be. This ain't no corridor shooter, and you are encouraged to explore each environment thoroughly to discover all of the hidden secrets and unlockables this game has to offer. Traversing the environments is fast and fluid. You move at a satisfying clip and incorporate a clamber and, later, a double jump to navigate the large, vertical spaces.

A point against DOOM could be it's rather weak and generic story. If you're looking for a world deep with lore then you might be satisfied by what is on offer through the collectible journal entries that flesh out the UAC and their Mars research facility, but the pretty intriguing idea of a corporation-turned-cult is barely explored. Arguably, focusing more on the story might have taken away from the game-play, which is DOOM's obvious first priority, but I did sometimes find myself wishing I had a bit more motivation than DEMONS: KILL.

Another definite negative is DOOM's multiplayer offering, which feels very tacked on and is entirely forgettable. All of the kinetic energy and adrenaline found in the single player game is absent here. This is where the description "mindless shooter" fits perfectly, where not even a respectable variety of game modes can keep it from feeling wholly shallow and lifeless. DOOM's multiplayer is a temporary distraction to be played once and then never picked up again.

But, despite these faults, in the end the game is just too much fun and I have so much praise for what it does do that it is hard to fault it for what it doesn't. DOOM is an incredibly refreshing return to form and has re-energized my enthusiasm for genre that has been, in my opinion, languishing for years, bereft of any originality and becoming stale and stagnant in the process. DOOM remembers that FPS's don't need to be a dreary slog nor do they need to take themselves seriously or rely on scripted set pieces to be incredible experiences. DOOM is a must buy for any shooter fan.

doom is a first person shooter where you slay demons...
And you can do this in a variety of ways
as you progress through the game you’ll unlock new weapons…
and to upgrade these weapons you have to earn upgrade points by completing in level challenges, and finding collectibles..
Once you’ve unlocked all of the mods for a weapon, to get its mastery you have to complete another challenge…
This system really had me searching for opportunities as well as forced me to use every weapon at my disposal.
There are also rune challenges in these levels that unlock a rune that give you a special perk, which can also be upgraded by completing that runes individual challenge…
Doom for the most part starts fairly average..
I wasn’t impressed with the first few hours of the game at all…
But thankfully as I progressed further and started to unlock new mods and skills and the levels actually started to stand out from the crowd I started to really enjoy my time...
I was legitimately surprised at every twist and turn this game took me in…
Dooms combat can be pretty gruesome at time especially thanks to the glory kills…
but most enemies feel way too spongy for any of this to every feel truly satisfying and the novelty of the glory kill quickly wore off.
But for the most part you’re in a way solving a puzzle, pulling switches and killing waves of demons on your way…
I did get an opportunity to play on the games highest difficulty, and unfortunately playing a level on this difficulty is required for a trophy
and I say unfortunately because it’s not fun…
it really highlights the cheapness certain enemies have..
You’ll die in this mode with 1 hit easily…
Which isn’t too big of a deal if certain enemies weren’t so cheap with their attacks... mainly the demons that throw fire balls… they have extreme accuracy and can climb walls…
you literally wont see your death coming..
And if you die here you start the level all the way from the start.
    It’s just not worth it…
There is a multiplayer mode here too
6 different match types that you would recognize from most other first person shooters like team death math or domination with their own doom twist for example instead of kill confirmed you harvest souls instead of collect dog tags
You unlock weapons abilities and demons as you level which can honestly throw the balance of a game out the windows as the higher level players who are already at the time in advantage also have the stronger loadouts and demon spawn ins…
luckily the demons don’t feel all too over powered.. But they are definitely fun to play as and worth the effort to try and grab the demon spawn stone before someone else does...
The doom multiplayer is super addictive and rivals the likes of killzone 2 as one of my most favorite multiplayer modes in a game…I can easily see players sticking around until the next doom comes out
there’s also a super deep snap map mode here that lets you create scenarios, edit ai, sound lighting, spawn points and connect different logic chains for a nearly endless amount of scenarios
If you don’t feel like creating, you van also hop into other peoples published maps.
    Doom is a great game
    There’s something here for everyone...
a 12 hour single player campaign, a varied and addictive multiplayer, and a snap map mode to get your Picasso on.
    I give doom an 8.9/10

TL:DR.... If you've ever cared about Doom before and you're even slightly interested in checking this out just stop waiting for the major publisher reviews to come out and go buy it. I would say at least rent it but you'll probably just buy it afterwards anyways and make the game a bit more expensive for yourself.

This game is really hard to stop playing! I'll get that out of the way right now. That being said, it's very clear that id and Bethesda set out to replicate the style of game play seen in classic Doom and Doom 2 with the newest. They totally succeeded in my humble opinion. The demons will make you feel very claustrophobic with how they swarm you and to offset what would almost surely be a swift crushing of your soul you've got the glory kills which render you invincible long enough to violently dismember a staggered enemy and get health back. And the glory kills are very contextual too, it's not just one unique kill per enemy type, no, each enemy type has different glory kills but each enemy type has different glory kills according to where you're at in reference to them as well. It's kinda like how the stealth kills worked in Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.... Only they're typically done amidst absolute chaos. The flow of combat is kinda like I'd expect carrying the world's largest bucket of water and dumping it on your head periodically as you run through a blazing fire to keep from being engulfed to feel like.

The weapons come in at a steady pace and if you keep an eye out for secrets you'll have a formidable arsenal fast too. Everything's upgradeable, even right down to your suit, and the upgrades aren't just cheesy damage increases either. You can make your shotgun shoot explosive shells and you can mount a rocket launcher to your assault rifle to name a couple examples. I'm about five levels in so no I haven't beaten it yet but(that would suck if I had) I've seen enough to know how I'm going to feel about the game. It should also be said that I haven't touched the multiplayer, but I bought Doom for the campaign anyway as I imagine most of us probably did. Truthfully as good as the campaign is, if the multiplayer is only merely passable this game still earns an 9 in my book and I'll nail down exactly why that is right now.

The game has brought back virtually everything I loved about the old school Doom games... AND they didn't ignore the creepy, dark atmosphere that made Doom 3 such an awesome(but unique)addition to the series either. Seriously, you even end up picking up those red, blue and yellow keycards. Which nobody cares about, I'm sure, but the point is that's the kind of attention to detail that went into making this game as faithful an addition to the Doom series as could be. Powerups, numeric health bar, numeric armor bar, full weapon arsenal(as opposed to only being able to carry two guns at a time), bloody, dark, visceral, creepy. I'd go as far as to say that if you've ever liked a Doom game before, any Doom game, you're gonna love this, unless maybe you were expecting an interactive movie cause this is all game. There is a story and it's a pretty cool one too but about 90% of it is found in the codex entries you pick up(everything's got a codex entry too, so there's plenty to learn about everything from your guns to the levels to each individual monster). This game is all game. Everything your character does, he does because your fingers told him to do it. That said, if you're expecting this game to be a clone of the Call of Battlefield formula we see so much of(don't get me wrong, I like em both but I resent the idea that every FPS has to follow that format) you're gonna be disappointed. This is Doom, through and through. No scripted Call of Duty stuff here. And judging from the pace of the revelations so far I'm guessing the campaign's gonna be pretty meaty in terms of length.

So yeah, on the strength of the campaign alone it's worth it. If the multiplayer is even passable I'd even go up to a 9.5 score and as for the whole snapmap business? Sounds pretty robust to me. It does have a strong touch of old school flair about it, I'm not gonna lie, but how that's applied couldn't be more welcome. Well.... I hope you're getting the idea here. This is the kind of game I'm happy to give day one support to.

    Graphics are a 9/10

    Gameplay is 9/10

    Music/SFX are 10/10

    Weapon Balance is 7.75/10

    Server Availability 8.5/10

    Pros:

Fast, fun, gory and easy to learn

Not CoD or Halo at all, it is its own thing

Graphics and sound quality is amazing

    Cons:

Average wait time in the lobby is about 20-30 seconds which is good but not enough time to get everything you want equipped.

Finding a lobby can take a minute or two but once you're in the lobby doesn't dissipate till you leave

Some of the weapons are way OP which limits the use of other less powerful weapons, hoping to see a couple weapons nerfed already but nothing insane like shotguns in Call of Duty where it's so imbalanced it takes away from the fun of the game. This is totally tolerable.

So after a 10+ year wait, I'm hooked. It was worth every penny spent.

Doom is a fun and enjoyable game. The single player mode steals the show, as the world, gameplay, and boss battles make it entertaining as hell. The actual story in it though isn't really interesting, but doom has never been about the actually story in the game, it's when you fight the different types of demons that makes it awesome. Doom is the series reboot that a new generation needed, and if Bethesda keeps this f they make more doom games, we'll be in one hell of a ride. Expand

Ignoring Xbox related issues. Perfect example of how to do a reboot, and in general: a game. Plays very close to how I remember Doom 1 + 2 regarding the pacing, music and gore. Bonus: The map editor is a surprisingly good piece of kit.

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.

While we won't go anywhere near as far to say that this online facing side of the game is an afterthought, it doesn't carry with it the same sense of intense playtesting and meticulous detail as the solo campaign.

A tremendous return for an all-time great. Doom feels so fresh by being so old-school. [July 2016, p.75]
