Similar to 2014's Wolfenstein: The New Order, Doom is a mostly successful old and new school fps design. Unlike their recent Wolfenstein reboot, Doom is absolutely bursting with content. Massive sprawling campaign levels, a fully fleshed out multiplayer map, and the single most powerful in game map making tool ever conceived.

Assuming you aren't overly cynical, you should enjoy the hell

Marty was put in charge of Doom after Bethesda scrapped the original plans. His job was to make a doom that goes back to the roots and feels like the classic games.

Not really an easy task, considering doom is one of the most hyped franchises of all time, and a lot of the fans have incredibly high expectations, some at such levels it almost becomes unhealthy. And when the hype is built into such astronomical dimensions, you might fail to see the game for what it is, leaving you to miss out on the 95% good, and focus on the 5% that is bad or less good.

But even considering what a daunting task it must have been for id to finally resurrect this dearly loved franchise, and even secure the future for themselves as a independent company. I have one simple thing to say.

    Oh boy have they succeeded.

As a fan of the original face paced, run and gun shooters, I was very skeptical about this new Doom iteration. After Doom 3 left me feeling "meh", I had reservations, but after the open beta I was convinced to at least give it a try. I'm so glad I did. There's nothing I love more than ripping off a possessed's leg and shoving it down their throat for the kill.

For those reviews that say "There's no story etc" I say this: Read. The. Codexes. Especially for the enemies, they fill in so much back story as to why the demons and possessed do what they do. I know it's a foreign concept "reading in a FPS? nah brah" but trust me, it's worth it and can even give you a strategic advantage sometimes.

I hope ID plans on making more shooters in this style because this was definitely a breath of fresh air. We'll done Bethesda and ID. We'll. Done.

A fantastic update of the original games. Only about half way through the campaign, 8-9 hours, and I am still being entertained. It's such a joy to see how little care Doomguy has in regards to the story elements, smashing his way through priceless technology and demons alike.

A game that delivers to it's target audience. So let me define the target audience. You enjoyed games like Quake IV, Doom 3, Bullet Storm, Serious Sam, Pain Killer, Riddick , Wolfenstein Old Blood, and Prey. The Halo 4 crowd may think the game is too fast and the COD fans should not apply.

The Xbox One and PS4 are limited in choices for people who like the games I mentioned above.

Really the Old Blood on X1 was the 1st time I felt like I was kicking it old school. Otherwise I lean on my Xbox 360 to give me more of this kind of feel for shooters.

The game isn't perfect, I'd agree co-op would have made it more flexible at $60, but if you are waiting it out $45 will be here soon enough.

So many games are cover shooters that have you hide behind a rock for 15 minutes at a time. DOOM has you running into battle headfirst. Cover fire means certain death. Keep moving, quick and efficiently. I love it. It's a great change of pace. -1 point since story is a bit light so far, but still early in the game.

    - Not as good as the “Timesplitters: Future Perfect” mapmaker.
+ You can play maps created by other people
+ You can ALSO share your OWN maps!

    Multiplayer
+ Actually really fun, balanced. (So Far)
+ Taunts are super funny (well…most)
+ Being a demon is AWESOME!
    - There is barely or ANY background music during games, making hard for me to play multiple matches at a time.
+ You can customise you loadouts, hack modules (perks), and how your character looks in game.

    TDM
-+ Your Average Team Death Match, get to 75 kills
You can also use the DEMON RUNE.

    Soul Harvest
Like “Kill Confirmand” in Call Of Duty.
Get points by killing an enemy and take their “soul”
Deny the enemy getting points by collecting your dead teammates “Soul”
When you are a demon the people you kill drop two “souls”
Pretty fun, and there is a lot more “Demon Rune” spawning in (Although it is limited to only one person having it at once)

    Domination
Capture and defend three positions. First team to 250 points wins. (or the most points when the time limit is reached.)
Demon Rune seems to spawn a little less than the others.
Its actually really fast pace compared to Call Of Duty and Battlefield.

    Warpath
Like “king of the hill” or “Hardpoint” in other games, but the objective moves around constantly
    You can points pretty fast
You capture and lose the objective fast.
First team to 250 points wins

    Clan Arena
Kill the other team, only one life (don’t waste it)
    Fast paced, fun.
    No demon rune I believe

    Freeze Tag
Like tdm, only one life, instead of dying you “freeze” and your teammates can “Thaw” you out and you respawn and fight again!
Actually a lot of fun, and you look funny while you are frozen.
No demon rune that I am aware of.
    Might be my favourite
Story (I was playing on “Ultra-Violence) Lots of stuff to do, many ways to play, although you pretty much ALWAYS have to keep moving. Glory kills are awesome, although they get less and less cooler the more times you do it. Story is actually pretty interesting. Graphics are pretty nice. It is pleasant to look at this game. The gameplay is smooth and FAST! Music is **** sexy. 2 of the bosses are AWESOME, although the FIRST one is my favourite. There are a lot of collectables (which might be sort of a nightmare for those 100%ers) Lots of secrets that are actually WELL hidden, I actually did not find that many of them. Enemies are actually pretty smart and attack you like **** (Occasionally they’ll be dumb and do stupid **** like stand there and eat bullets) Maps are well designed, and actually make you think, instead of just following a set path, you have to traverse the land to move forwards (IE Jump here, duck here, get key cards, ) It can be sort of repetitive after a while. The final boss is kinda…not fun. It’s really cheap and almost no skill involved to kill it , a lot of luck in my opinion. Which sucks because the OTHER bosses are actually a LOT of fun! The ending, sets it up for the sequel. I rate this ….. 9/10

There is no hiding behind an obstruction and laying waste to your enemies in Doom. You do that, you die. The only plan that works is never stand still, and get in close for gory kills as often as possible. Once I embraced that style of play, the game became ridiculously fun.

I know this game got knocked by some for being short, but I played through on the hardest difficulty level, which I find always extends the play time because I died a lot. A lot. The game is no insult to the franchise and instead is a solid update with fun shooting and platforming sections within it, If you've never played a Doom game before this is a great game to start with, the levels are so atmospheric, the enemies a worth splitting open and overall it's gory ride from start to finish.

the only down point in the game.
I know what most of people say about this. that this game doesn't need a story and I tend to agree, because the gameplay, stunning audio and visuals makes up for everything else. BUT never the less for a AAA 2016 game it should have a more decent story and it is quit a shame and disappointment considering the potential of pretty interesting lore. they could also throw some bad-ass cut scenes, why so cheap ?

    E. Content Vs. Value - 8
this is not on open game so naturally it is not that long. but aside from the campaign there are classic and arcade maps that you can and will replay again and again thanks to the Awesome OST like already mentioned before. there are secrets and collectables to find, weapon upgrades and challanges to complete.
the campaign is good but fells a bit too short.

Great but takes a bit longer to get used find fitting preset.

    G. Stability and Performance - 10
Perfect! for the whole campaign there were no noticeable performance issues, no crashes, bugs or glitches or anything that ruined the game from a technical aspect. THIS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS GRANTED.
Lately new games are being released in an incomplete and unpolished state which results in many bugs. glitches. FPS drops. Hard Crashes and much more **** that ruins your experience and makes you think why did I even bother with this game. even after whole year some games still have a lot of issues and no one bothers to fix them because they are busy releasing a DLC which will probably have the same issues. why do people accept this kind of crap *face-palm* .

With the release of Doom VFR, we thought we’d look back at the last main entry of the series. How does one go about rebooting the granddaddy of the first person shooting genre? By taking what made the original, which still holds up well today no less, and cranking everything to the max. Everything from the catchy industrial soundtrack to the trademark gore has been improved.

You’ll begin the game already on Mars, having been connected to a strange machine that someone, or something, placed the player in. Our unnamed protagonist quickly arms himself and sets out on a journey of destruction through Mars and the very pits of Hell. Unlike Doom 3, the game puts the story on the backburner in favor of a simple premise that focuses more on fast paced action than slow exposition. There is plenty of story available, but it’s optional.

Much like the original, the game runs at breakneck speed. If you stop moving, particularly in a firefight, you will die quickly. Unlike most modern FPS games, you don’t have a regenerating health bar, so you will rely on seeking out health kits as well as using the new finishing moves that have been implemented in this iteration. After taking a set amount of damage, most enemies will begin flashing which is your signal to get in close for the kill. These are satisfying and needed to replenish small amounts of health.

You’ll find all of your original tools of destruction are present and accounted for. The biggest change to the arsenal is the addition of secondary firing modes, which are unlocked and upgraded by completing challenges in the campaign; some are a bit grindy, but worth the work. The only disappointment was that the chainsaw, which was a personal favorite, is now a pick up with a limited amount of fuel.

Much like the original, each level features a number of secret areas and short cuts, which rewards the player for exploration. You’ll find upgrades for your armor, weapons, as well as a small number of collectibles and the newly added runes. Finding a rune will unlock a short challenge, which if successful, unlocks an upgrade that can be used in the main campaign.

If you missed any collectibles or secrets, you are able to use the chapter select to head back with your newly acquired upgrades. The only low point of the campaign is the lackluster boss fights, which essentially set you loose in an arena against one of the game’s bigger enemies. These are more frustrating than fun, as the bosses are essentially large bullet sponges with a limited number of attacks, some of which are instant kills, leading to plenty of unfair deaths. Thankfully, there are only a few of these encounters.

In addition to the standard campaign, which clocks in around six to eight hours depending on your skill and selected difficulty, you have the option to play each completed level in the post release addition of the Arcade mode. This is similar to a score attack mode, limiting the player to certain weapons and removing any unlocked upgrades, leveling the playing field for those who wish to partake in the leaderboards.

On the multiplayer front, there are a number of options as well. While the PVP arena isn’t as populated as it was at launch, I was still able to connect to a game after a short wait. The multiplayer suite offers the standard game modes found in most FPS games. These modes are just as fast paced as the single player campaign, and in full lobbies can be fun despite the fact you will die and die often. Unlike most of the FPS counterparts, I found myself often laughing at my failures opposed to getting frustrated, which is a nice change.

I’ve spent the most time in the multiplayer arena playing with the new Snap Map feature, which allows players to create their own levels using a number of easy to use tools. They can then be uploaded for the community or friends to play. With hundreds of options available with varying levels of quality, there are a limitless number of replay options offered here. This feature also allows us the option to use old school visuals with the newly modeled enemies as well as to create a party with up to 3 friends for some co-op shenanigans.

While the game is lacking the survival horror element that was introduced in the last entry, it is a well-made shooter worthy of any gamer’s collection; especially those of us who are familiar with the original’s brand of ultra-violence.

Most upgrades and levels have small combat tasks that are typically brief enough to avoid excessive grinding.

On top of this there are bonus levels and challenges carefully hidden in the maps, perfectly balanced with the multiple difficulty modes. There's so much to do in DOOM, to the point where I haven't even tried the map creator or multiplayer mode yet, and I still feel like I got more than my money's worth.

The only complaint I really have is that the loading screens are a *little* long. Otherwise, this game is great.

The level environments are superb, particularly the Hell levels. id Software have been able to create a truly unique, grim and morbidly beautiful world to serve as a backdrop for slaughtering demons of hell spawn. The level design does away with the more linear, railroading levels in favour of open ended maps with key hunting which is more akin to the previous instalments of the DOOM franchise.

Further more, while double jumping is a new addition to DOOM, it still features the smooth, fast-paced, punchy, visceral combat of it's predecessors. The "glory kills" and chainsaw murders never cease to be gruesome and rewarding.

The musical score is downright awesome; Mick Gordon is a musical mastermind and it really adds to the intensity and the adrenaline rush of demon slaying.

The game starts off a bit challenging, even on normal difficulty, as it's easy to get overwhelmed by monsters during combat, but towards the end I thought the game was getting kind of easy, once I had levelled up Doom guy and his weapons. Game play tip: as soon as you get the "Chain Gun", unlock the "Mobile Turret" attachment. I can reliably cut down enemies like I'm mowing the lawn with this upgrade.

There is a plot to this game, but I didn't really pay much attention to it. Frankly, DOOM is much better served when it's outright demon slaying as oppose to reading flavour text and watching cutscenes.

Overall, DOOM is a game that's pretty easy to pick up and play. Pop it in for a few hours of stress relief and enjoy the intense, fluid combat mechanics. It's largely faithful to it's predecessors and it's a game that I can fully recommend.

I've had no issues with the controls as they seem typical to any other FPS. The soundtrack is fantastic and the ambient sounds are creepy. The enemy A.I. is super smart and the enemies will come after you. In order to survive this hellish nightmare you must run and gun, if you stand still--you will die. There is no time for strategy or memorizing enemy routines. Almost everything in the game can be upgraded in various ways (which is great for me). One point to keep in mind if your considering this game: it requires patience, you will die often regardless of your skills with other FPS games, luckily there are checkpoints scattered about. This game is more akin to the original Doom so it is nothing like Doom 3 (which some people have complained about) and has replay value (due to all the collectibles and trials) but once you've had your fill of the main Campaign sadly there is little left. In conclusion, if you are a COD, Destiny, Halo, or Battlefield fan then you will probably hate this game due the intensity and hardcore nature of this beast. Its basically a Run like Hell - kill anything that moves - don't stop running until the end credits roll, type of game that shows you no mercy--ever. Definitely a bloody good time while it lasts. I'm a huge DOOM fan since the original. I've played the whole series plus a ton of custom WADs. Bethesda did a great job recreating a modern DOOM. It has a lot of nostalgic moments (especially the Hell levels) and they added a solid mix of new gameplay. I wish the campaign was a little bit longer though. I haven't delved into the multiplayer yet so I can't comment on that.

Devotees of the franchise and newcomers alike may find a lot to love in Bethesda and id Software's update of the classic shooter. Though, after a while, the gameplay itself may get a bit redundant, there's still a smooth, well-oiled nature to the combat that just kept me coming back, day after day. An imperfect, yet still eminently enjoyable action romp.

Weapons and demons appear somewhat to be homages of the original but this game appears to boost an entirely new story/campaign, (which may have been expected by some.) It has been over ten years since the release of DOOM 3 for the original Xbox and PC so expectations may have been high for this game.

This latest console generation version of DOOM is arguably far different than that of DOOM 3, (Xbox or PC), since it boasts a shoot 'n' move mentality or style of game-play which some compare to the first two doom titles released back in the 90's. What adds even more strategy to the game-play is the glory kills which reward you for severely damaging demons but not killing them, (providing you move up in time while they're staggered and vulnerable and press down on the right thumb stick in time.) This often provides health pickups and ammo to help keep you alive while accessing the environment for more kills or where to move next. This may not seem too impressive considering that it gets easier the more you do this, but weapon upgrades, (which are purchasable during game-play), boost your odds of surviving tediously challenging checkpoint sequences that can often and easily take several minutes at a time to complete. Weapon upgrades include, but are not limited to a tactical scope for your heavy assault rifle and charged bursts for at least either of the two shotguns. Your character also has access to a grenade which he can throw only once every few minutes, (so you need to be smart when choosing where and when to throw it and who to use it against depending on what demons you're facing.) You'll also eventually have access to a chainsaw, (of course), which only has three units of fuel and needs to be replenished after all are used. It only works on the smaller of the demons so this should not be relied on too often. Demons move just about as quick as you for the most part and you are often both heavily outnumbered by them and also out in the open which explains how difficult the game can be on the moderate difficulty. The moderate difficulty is actually nicknamed "Hurt me plenty" so it's not to be taken lightly by any means so to speak. A wall/cover system would help you greatly but this would differ too greatly from the gaming experience of the first three games.

I like the arcade mode fairly well considering how easy it is to get stuck on the campaign mode without any walk through or strategy guide. You should be warned that it's fairly challenging and can be frustrating considering your multiplier rating will be reduced when demons inflict damage on you. It takes quite a bit of practice to even get a bronze medal considering you need 4,600,000 points for that in one specific section or level just for that! I recommend this to avid DOOM or first person shooter fans.

    2) The second issue is with the BFG itself. After selecting the BFG by pressing the A button, you want to return to your regular load out by pressing Y. But for some reason, the game automatically switches to the combat shotgun as the default weapon, and NOT the load out you've selected. Let me explain: You've got the rocket launcher and chain gun selected. You find yourself in a tough spot, so you press A for the BFG. You fire off one round of the BFG, and then press Y to go BACK to your rocket launcher/chain gun combo. The shotgun appears. You've go to reselect your weapons manually by using the weapon wheel - which has a chance of NOT working properly (as explained above).

These two major bugs can cause some frustration throughout the single player campaign. It happens over, and over, and over again. And completely messes up the fluidity of the arena-style combat.

Until these two bugs get fixed, the game will remain an 8/10 for me.

Although this game is run under the new engine, "ID Tech 6", the graphics are not what you would call perfect, but they are stunning, just not from up close, from afar the graphics are beautiful. The single player campaign is the strong point for this game, it's intense, fast-paced, and non-stop, there are demons around every corner ready to be killed in many different ways. The story is not really the highlight in DOOM, the gameplay is what keeps your attention throughout the campaign. The multiplayer is the weakest point of DOOM, it's nothing worth remembering, it may be fast-paced like the single player campaign, but it fails to give you thrills that the campaign has. DOOM SnapMap is a pretty neat feature, you can build your own map for multiple game modes in your own way, the sky's the limit, you can make anything from a simple DM map, to a layered demon survival map. It's pretty simple too, every little piece just snaps together bricks. Of course the music was perfect, nothing is better than killing demons to fast and loud heavy metal music. The gore is heavy, and I mean heavy, there is more gore in DOOM than there is in the Gears of War series. DOOM has finally come, it's big, it's gory, and it's fast-paced, it may not be perfect, it may be flawed, but it has enough entertainment to keep players occupied for hours and hours, this is just like playing the original DOOM all over again with a new layer of fresh paint and a few tweaks, DOOM is the most fun I have ever had in a long time and I hope to play it for hours and hours. Doom is a fun, well designed, repetitive, adrenaline rush that accomplishes the goals it sets out for itself, but doesn’t do much more than that.

the combat is incredibly addictive, the system is incredible. the game is not for everyone, it is a little difficult. the main character is a little too simple and the campaign is a little short (about 15 hours).

Great gameplay loop, great enemy variety and great level design. The bosses that were there were great but could have used more. Also some of the levels did feel quite similar to one another in terms of the environment. No story but it didn't really need one. Best part of the game was the boss fight with the mechanised demon- the second phase takes place in hell was a very great moment.

Multiplay is a lot of fun also. Soul Harvest is my favorite. The customization is crazy lots of armor pieces to win and customize with color, pieces, patterns same for the weapons too. It keeps you interested in he one more game approach in hopes to get that cool piece of armor and such.

Snap map is a breeze but also provides deep tools for you to use but the one thing that is UNACCEPTABLE to me is no bots to check multiplay maps to test out new modes you might event. Even COD has bots in the game. This makes a game that is a 9 drop down to a 7 due to the fact of leaving out an a very important tool in customizing. I do think it was taken out due to a season pass that you have to buy to get everything. Maybe they are too scared the user base will out make their creations. Besides like other games that seperate the user base with pay for map packs this game will be hot for a few months but Im pretty sure by the release of the last pack most interest will be lost as the gamers have moved on to other experiances.

This is a game i am happy i purchased and would recommend people buying this game and giving it a try.

Critics (professional or not) rave about it, but only 20% of its players in Xbox have completed Doom (for comparison that's around 30% for competing shooters). What's the catch? This review might explain.
First, still after 2 years and 62GB of updates, there is a bug that corrupts some saves. When it happens, enemies stop spawning correctly and passages remain blocked. If it happens to you in the 6th mission (like it did to me) you're of luck: there is no way to restart the current mission from the beginning. Unless you really love the game and start from scratch, you have to restart the game. So take the rest of the review with a grain of salt, as I've only played (pretty thoroughly) the first 5.5 missions.
Let's switch to something positive: the combat. The enemies attack you from all sides, each one with the different types of attacks. Movement is crazily fast and fluid (60fps). Prioritising and being quick on your feet is crucial: trying to bring an important guy to low life and go for a close up gore kill is a risky tactic, rewarding you with a rain of health packs. Most weapons are awesome, with interesting primary and secondary fire modes. The only distraction is weapon switching on consoles: you switch from let's say the shotgun to the rocket launcher, only to find that it's low on ammo. You hold Y, time slows down, you switch to let's say the gauss cannon. You fire a couple of crucial long shots, then you press Y for a quick switch back to shotgun, only to be found again to your rocket launcher.
And that's just one of the areas where Doom prioritises old-school for old-school's sake, not caring about innovations since Halo. In most console shooters inventory is in front of your eyes (dropped weapons of the enemies), you don't need to stop time to pick it or manage its upgrades - and that allows it being played co-op. Even the most hardcore PC fan who loves to remember that x weapon is on button 7 will accept that being to play Doom in co-op would have been AWESOME.
At least its combat... Because a big part of 2016's DOOM is about exploration. We're not talking just about optional exploration to find admittedly cool collectables or original-Doom levels. In order to fully upgrade your weapons and armour to the max you have to pass lots of time between battles navigating the map, and jumping around. And even though there's not much to see (Doom is an endless exchange of grey, red and brown), there is a lot of pleasure in finding those things. But reaching them is not fun. The first person perspective, floaty movement and (in cases of hidden areas) confused visual language on what is interactable or can be reached would have been simply annoying if they weren't combined with an abysmal checkpointing system. You risked a jump to reach something marked on your map and you fell (because the game expected you to go there another way)? Good luck, you're back before your previous battle. And if this battle is the one where you have to use your double-jump to hunt around imps who push you to the abyss, you might be justifiably infuriated (if you enjoy shooting with platforming, try Titanfall 2's campaign instead).
Until this moment I didn't mention any story. It's because Doom proudly makes fun of its "scientists opened a door to hell, kill and destroy everything you meet" plot.
There's also a multiplayer, but I arrived to the game so late that it's dead - most people say it wasn't particularly good anyway.
To conclude, Doom appeals to nostalgia with some hits and some misses, but real thing it is adding to the genre (and which I hope other games will copy) is the rewards for risking to get close and personal with enemies.

My original guess was that it was going to pander to console players by making it slower ( I thought this after I saw the scroll wheel that slowed down game play.) It has been a long while since I have seen a shooter with intelligent map design, design which rewards players for playing the game at a faster pace, in fact I rarely found myself stopping in between combat, if at all. There is secrets galore in this game to. Not only that but the game itself is absolutely beautiful. From the large bosses to the small imps for pistol fodder every part of the game does not lack in design, This game reinvigorated my faith in ID. The online has obviously improved since the beta (Its great, i didn't get the chance to play the beta but I heard complaints) With a larger selections of weapons. In fact I see so many modding possibilities for the multiplayer on PC. After playing leagues and leagues of modern shooters this is the most refreshing multiplayer I have played in a while and will suck in hours and hours of my time I haven't really played around with snap map yet, but Ill be looking forward to it!. Anyway this reinvigorated the franchise and will forever be known as a classic, Amazing job id, i look forward for more Expand

Just finished the game on Ultra-violence. Game took me roughly 8 hrs. It was my first playthrough. I'll go over a couple points.

tl;dr - The game is solid, but has several issues. If you're a fan of Quake, DOOM, Serious Sam, Bullet Storm, etc. play the game. Keep in mind that this game is trying to recreate 25 year old gameplay. Nothing incredible. (6.5-7.5 out of 10) PROS: - Nice

    PROS:
    - Nice callback to the original DOOM. (armor, health, keys, style)
    - Graphics are really nice, each area created a unique environment.
    - Fast game play. Combat is great!! Sets the mood for really fun, and brutal enemy encounters.
    - Gore galore. Blood everywhere!
    - Music is pretty good too.

    NEUTRAL:
    - Not a horror game. I was a little let down by this, but I can understand the decision.
    - Shorter game. (8-10 hrs)
    - Really heavy focus on executions. (glory kills)
    - The achievements are BAD. Not that important if you're not an achievement hunter. As an example for a bad achievement, you only get a 10gs cheevo for beating the first level on the hardest difficulty. That's it. No other achievement is awarded for completing the campaign, or other subsequent levels on Ultra-Nightmare. Huh?

    CONS:
    - Oh my God, the story is bad. So many holes in the story, especially near the end. Of course you can collect the in-game codex to get deeper with the story. But when I finished the game with over 80% of the codex collected, I still could poke holes at the story.

    - Buggy. I can't tell you how many times I've fallen through the map, or an enemy got stuck on some texture pop, or some other random BS happened during my playthrough. I've gotten stuck to the point where I would have to reload checkpoints.

    - The bosses. Every boss fight in this game was atrocious. I hate them. The game barely works during these sections, and I honestly feel that they were the least fun sections of the game.

    - VERY repetitive. The only down time you get is the loading screens, and in-between rooms. It is essentially a mindless "go here, clear room, get key, urg, open door, repeat" type of game.

    - Step down from 'Wolfenstein: The New Order'? It feels like DOOM is a downgraded version of Wolfenstein. It really does.

    Summary: A solid game
DOOM was a fun game. As a fan of the series, I enjoyed plowing through hordes of demons with a metal track playing in the background. The game is bloody, fast-paced, and brutal, which are all good things in my book. The easter eggs are awesome, the weapons are fun to use (super shotgun FTW), and killing the big baddies with executions is satisfying as hell.

At the end of the day, however, that's all DOOM is; a run-and-gun shooter. The formula is not exactly new, and while it does pay homage to the originals, big fans of DOOM 3's survival horror style probably won't appreciate this installment as much. The game is very repetitive, and can grow dull after a few hours of play. The story isn't that great either. I know it's DOOM and all, but, after playing Wolfenstein, I expected a little more.

I feel that DOOM honestly just didn't live up to the hype generated from the fans, the years of it's absence, and Wolfenstein's beta bonus. It is a good game, but there a collection of small things that keep it from being perfect. I recommend that any fans of the series try it out. Just don't be expected to be blown off your feet or anything.

Fun for a short while, but the boss fights were very tedious and boring. Admittedly, I am not very good at fps games and I just don't have the patience to learn the boss's tell moves and counters so for you, this game might well rate more highly, but for me it wasn't a super hit.

I don't understand the hype around this game, it's a solid shooter for sure but it didn't really excel in any area. The main downside of the game is that it was just a group of different encounters with very little inbetween. Once you've glory killed the demons a couple of times it starts to get old for a core mechanic.

Visually its amazing. The gameplay on the campaign is pretty fun and challenging due to the lack of ammo when you get into hordes of monsters to slay.

Multiplayer is pretty average. It's fun for a little bit, but it doesnt give you that feeling where you want to play it over and over again. I can happily play it for an hour, then turn it off and put it away for a week.

You run. You kill. You platform. You run. You kill. You Platform.

My biggest gripes with the games are around the exploration system. Shooting and defeating enemies is always a blast, but exploring halts the game to a screeching halt almost every time. Finding stuff doesn't ever feel rewarding, the platforming is the easiest platforming out there, and every location in the game just feels like the same location but a switched-up maze.

It can easily be compared to the Metroid Prime games, where you explore and find stuff to advance, except with more "pew-pew" and "bam-bam". However, Matroid did it better. There were actual biomes; there was a feeling of loneliness and dread, mystery, and wonder. There were moments of build-up and challenge; there were puzzles and challenges that made the game more than just shooting.

    This game just shoots.

That's not necessarily a flaw for the game. That's what it went for, but more variety would've definitely benefited the game, along with biomes or environments that could've added more of a dynamic for this game.

Overall, it's mid. Overrated and fun at points, but even pew-pewing got tiring.

/ Fast paced shooter elements are fun but eleminate any stratergy that might otherwise have been used. There is literally a crouch button in the game with little more than the purpose to enter secret area's.

    Negatives

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.
