Do you like Metroid Prime? What about Halo? Also Half-Life? Then you will love this gorefest. Fast-paced, simple combat, silly story, heavy emphasis on exploration, and the goriest graphics in any video game besides perhaps Mortal Kombat X on the Xbox.

The gameplay classic Doom run-and-gun. It is not survival horror. The enemies chase you relentlessly, so the key to survival is movement, not cover. That's not good or bad--I don't believe it deserves a positive or negative review based on that alone--it's just what it is. If you think you'll like a fast-paced shooter, you'll like Doom 4. If not, you won't.

Doom is a brutal masterpiece; a step into the past to show the modern market that the old formulas still work in an oversaturated, corridor shooting gallery market. This design has worn thin and Id and BethesdaDoom is a brutal masterpiece; a step into the past to show the modern market that the old formulas still work in an oversaturated, corridor shooting gallery market. It seems to often today that we are bombarded by Call of Duty style simplistic campaigns where a straight line punctuated by explosions designed to give Michael Bay an erection. This design has worn thin and Id and Bethesda have listened to the customers and have given us something so refreshing and nostalgic at the same time that you can't help but get your demon murder chub on.

Doom 2016 was to be a direct sequel to Doom 3 but according to developers was looking like Call of Doom. So, the Elder Scrolls Gods and Id Software went back to the drawing board and look at the original designs of Doom and what made it special. Shooting, lots and lots of shooting...with buckets of gore.

This games stands on several areas VERY strongly: Graphics, Sound Design, and TIGHT gameplay.
First, Graphics: This game has some of the best volumetric and particle effects in a game as of late, and for such a retro feeling title, has a REAL current (next) gen feeling on all three systems (played it on PC and Xbox One). This is even visible in the first minute of the game, where sparks shower from damaged wiring above your head, and steam from vents pumps out into corridors. Enemy design and weapon animations are top notch and show a love the lore, the past, and where they want to go. Unlockable character and weapon models are actually fun to look at as they are animated (this is fluff stuff) and show the minute level of detail put into each enemy you will eviscerate and each weapon that will be doing the former.

Sound design: Top notch, truly epic and unnerving at the sametime. I played this on a headset and recommended that or full surround sound to REALLY get the blood pumping. Demons are guttural, weapons echo with unleashed discontent, and the music metal as f**K where it staccatos the action sections perfectly and makes you feel like a combat murder God.

Gameplay: Best in years. Level design is built into this and harkens back to original Doom design; levels are non linear after the first level (training wheel right?) and key card hunting has returned. Secrets litter each level and built in challenges in each level not only keep things interesting and challenging but also are useful for upgrading your weapons. Segway into weapons, all weapons feel powerful sans the pistol and have amazing mods that give the game a RPG-lite addition that at first I though would be out of place....but its not! Weapon changes turn your simple combat shotgun into a grenade launching or triple blasting monster early game, where later a chain gun can turn into a Nonuple barreled monster that would make a GAU-8 Avenger piss itself. There are some armor upgrades that are helpful but not intrusive to where it could become a focus, and thus it fits well. Staples are back like the BFG and Chainsaw, but are so powerful they are leashed by low ammo for both (yes chainsaw has fuel) to make them utility weapons and thus not make the game "easy mode" but still keeps them SUPER fun and awesome to use. Shooting in the game is superb and retro...you will carry ALL the guns and shoot ALL the things with extreme prejudice and NO reloading (sans cycling the combat shotgun and reloading the super shotgun). The gameplay feel kinetic and VERY fast, as you will zip around with all the speed of the original doom and shoot hot hate shrapnel at everything that moves.

Story: it is there and fits as lore. It is simple but fun, and most importantly, NOT important...this is a game ALL about gameplay (naughty Dog you pretentious studio) so the story does not get in the way. No proper cut scenes, you start killing 5 seconds into the game, and there are only a couple spots where the game slows a moment for story, and such points have Easter eggs and things to see so it doesn't disrupt thing terribly.

Multiplayer is fun but not amazing, so come for the campaign. Snapmap is pretty cool and I hope they flush it out more with updates because I see TONS of potential with it.

While it's not perfect, DOOM stands as one of the best shooters that I've had the chance to play in recent years. It returns to an old-school style of gameplay that fans of the original games remember fondly. To such an extent that, if you didn't like either Doom 1 or 2, chances are you're probably not gonna think of this game as highly as others will.

First off, the game is gorgeous.

It returns to an old-school style of gameplay that fans of the original games remember fondly. To such an extent that, if you didn't like either Doom 1 or 2, chances are you're probably not gonna think of this game as highly as others will.

First off, the game is gorgeous. The UAC facilities are gore-soaked and impressive, the landscape of Mars would make Mark Watney proud, and the level designs of Hell look like they were ripped straight from the album art of a '90s metal band.

About the story... To quote John Carmack, "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." Just like in the original DOOM, the story in this game isn't the focus here, though the codex does offer some interesting back-story to many of the demons, weapons, etc. found in the game. The entire point of this game is killing demons and that's going to be what you'll spend most of your time doing with an arsenal of awesome weapons and the two meat tenderizers that DoomGuy call hands.

Despite what the fast pace of combat may lead you to believe, there is some strategy here. The Super Shotgun is powerful, but lacks any range. And obviously, you don't want to be shooting off rockets at point-blank distance. Also, simply being aware of explosive barrels and high-ground can just as easily be as lifesaving as the all-mighty BFG. The key to the combat seems to be taking advantage of your surroundings, maintaining constant movement, and choosing the right gun for the job.

One thing I greatly enjoyed about the game was the sense of escalation. You start off with the humble Combat Shotgun and only a handful of demons to use it on. However, as you progress, you find more weapons and bigger, stronger demons start rearing their ugly heads, hoping to get a piece of you.

The level design is rather impressive. The maps are massive and secrets are tucked away in all of them, including a hidden room that's taken straight from the original games, in all of their 16bit glory. The arenas, in which you often fight many of the demons, are also well-designed and make for fun firefights that leave you with many options in which to approach the combat.

Depending on the difficulty and how much time you spend looking for secrets, finishing up a single mission can easily take up anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (I played on Ultraviolence). Finishing up the story would take up a good 15 hours or so.

Though the campaign is the crown jewel, the multi-player is nothing to scoff at. Fans of arena shooters such as Quake 3 and Unreal would be right at home here. The combat is just as fast and chaotic as before. The biggest difference I can see being the decision of giving players loadouts rather than simply picking up weapons placed on the map. I have mixed feelings regarding this as it makes the game feel a little too much like many other modern shooters. However, it also keeps players from hovering around weapon spawn points on the map, which I've always found to be annoying in older online FPS games.

Another great feature worth mentioning is SnapMap. Id decided to toss in a remarkably in-depth map-building system that allows for the creation and sharing of custom content, ranging from co-op maps, to survival builds, or even a return to the classic Doom deathmatch.

In terms of content, there is a lot to play around with. There is so much, that I am completely comfortable with the $60 price tag. However, I can understand how some people would be somewhat cautious. If you're not sure about the gameplay, I'd recommend redboxing the game first and see if you like it before buying.

I've actually been frightened a few times from enemies flanking me when unexpected. My only gripes are the load times (which seems bizarre in this generation), and the platforming isn't always consistent. However, they hardly take away from the experience. 2) The second issue is with the BFG itself. After selecting the BFG by pressing the A button, you want to return to your regular load out by pressing Y. But for some reason, the game automatically switches to the combat shotgun as the default weapon, and NOT the load out you've selected. Let me explain: You've got the rocket launcher and chain gun selected. You find yourself in a tough spot, so you press A for the BFG. You fire off one round of the BFG, and then press Y to go BACK to your rocket launcher/chain gun combo. The shotgun appears. You've go to reselect your weapons manually by using the weapon wheel - which has a chance of NOT working properly (as explained above).

These two major bugs can cause some frustration throughout the single player campaign. It happens over, and over, and over again. And completely messes up the fluidity of the arena-style combat.

Until these two bugs get fixed, the game will remain an 8/10 for me.

doom is a first person shooter where you slay demons...
And you can do this in a variety of ways
as you progress through the game you’ll unlock new weapons…
and to upgrade these weapons you have to earn upgrade points by completing in level challenges, and finding collectibles..
Once you’ve unlocked all of the mods for a weapon, to get its mastery you have to complete another challenge…
This system really had me searching for opportunities as well as forced me to use every weapon at my disposal.
There are also rune challenges in these levels that unlock a rune that give you a special perk, which can also be upgraded by completing that runes individual challenge…
Doom for the most part starts fairly average..
I wasn’t impressed with the first few hours of the game at all…
But thankfully as I progressed further and started to unlock new mods and skills and the levels actually started to stand out from the crowd I started to really enjoy my time...
I was legitimately surprised at every twist and turn this game took me in…
Dooms combat can be pretty gruesome at time especially thanks to the glory kills…
but most enemies feel way too spongy for any of this to every feel truly satisfying and the novelty of the glory kill quickly wore off.
But for the most part you’re in a way solving a puzzle, pulling switches and killing waves of demons on your way…
I did get an opportunity to play on the games highest difficulty, and unfortunately playing a level on this difficulty is required for a trophy
and I say unfortunately because it’s not fun…
it really highlights the cheapness certain enemies have..
You’ll die in this mode with 1 hit easily…
Which isn’t too big of a deal if certain enemies weren’t so cheap with their attacks... mainly the demons that throw fire balls… they have extreme accuracy and can climb walls…
you literally wont see your death coming..
And if you die here you start the level all the way from the start.
    It’s just not worth it…
There is a multiplayer mode here too
6 different match types that you would recognize from most other first person shooters like team death math or domination with their own doom twist for example instead of kill confirmed you harvest souls instead of collect dog tags
You unlock weapons abilities and demons as you level which can honestly throw the balance of a game out the windows as the higher level players who are already at the time in advantage also have the stronger loadouts and demon spawn ins…
luckily the demons don’t feel all too over powered.. But they are definitely fun to play as and worth the effort to try and grab the demon spawn stone before someone else does...
The doom multiplayer is super addictive and rivals the likes of killzone 2 as one of my most favorite multiplayer modes in a game…I can easily see players sticking around until the next doom comes out
there’s also a super deep snap map mode here that lets you create scenarios, edit ai, sound lighting, spawn points and connect different logic chains for a nearly endless amount of scenarios
If you don’t feel like creating, you van also hop into other peoples published maps.
    Doom is a great game
    There’s something here for everyone...
a 12 hour single player campaign, a varied and addictive multiplayer, and a snap map mode to get your Picasso on.
    I give doom an 8.9/10

Although this game is run under the new engine, "ID Tech 6", the graphics are not what you would call perfect, but they are stunning, just not from up close, from afar the graphics are beautiful. The single player campaign is the strong point for this game, it's intense, fast-paced, and non-stop, there are demons around every corner ready to be killed in many different ways. The story is not really the highlight in DOOM, the gameplay is what keeps your attention throughout the campaign. The multiplayer is the weakest point of DOOM, it's nothing worth remembering, it may be fast-paced like the single player campaign, but it fails to give you thrills that the campaign has. DOOM SnapMap is a pretty neat feature, you can build your own map for multiple game modes in your own way, the sky's the limit, you can make anything from a simple DM map, to a layered demon survival map. It's pretty simple too, every little piece just snaps together bricks. Of course the music was perfect, nothing is better than killing demons to fast and loud heavy metal music. The gore is heavy, and I mean heavy, there is more gore in DOOM than there is in the Gears of War series. DOOM has finally come, it's big, it's gory, and it's fast-paced, it may not be perfect, it may be flawed, but it has enough entertainment to keep players occupied for hours and hours, this is just like playing the original DOOM all over again with a new layer of fresh paint and a few tweaks, DOOM is the most fun I have ever had in a long time and I hope to play it for hours and hours. It is non-stop, gory, over-the-top action that I can pick up and play any day at any time and have a blast. These are the types of games I love the most; arcadey, fast-paced, relatively short, and very replayable. That's not to say that I don't enjoy other kinds of games or genres, but it is these experiences that I love to revisit over and over again. I've been playing for 4 years now and it hasn't gotten even the slightest bit old.

The game has a story, sure, but neither the game nor the DOOM Guy give a f*ck about it, so it is very clear that you shouldn't either, that's not the focus. For those curious, the game does offer quite a bit of lore and details about what's going on, so if ya wanna take the time to understand it all, it is all right there to be consumed. I myself don't really care, so for all intent and purposes all that matters in this game, is that a portal leading to Hell has been opened in Mars and your job is to absolutely annihilate anything that comes out of it in the most brutal way possible, and eventually take the fight to Hell itself.

Doing that job is very easy, as the game gives you all the tools you need to rip and tear through all of its levels, filled to the brim with Easter eggs and secrets to find. As you go along you'll get more and more weapons to use. It all starts very standardly, a little gun with infinite ammo, and a shotgun. Eventually, however, you'll start getting weapons more and more insane; a Plasma Rifle, an Assault Rifle, a Rocket Launcher, a Chaingun, a Chainsaw that runs on fuel but can cut through almost everything, and of course, the mother of all weapons, the Big F*cking Gun-9000, which destroys basically anything, just to name a few.

As if that wasn't enough you can also upgrade these weapons, giving them new features, by exploring the gigantic maps and finding little upgrade robots. For example, you can upgrade the shotgun to fire an explosive shot, transform the Chaingun into a Mobile Turret, stuff like that. Pretty much all of these upgrades kickass and are a blast to use.

Should you be running out of ammo, you can perform brutal melee attacks against enemies with low health to do very violent glory kills, which give you life and ammo. Very rarely do I run out of ammo in this game, and even when I do I can take advantage of certain power-ups you can encounter every now and again, that either boost your speed, defense or put you in a berserker state to savagely tear any demon in your path in just one hit.

Speaking of the demons, the enemy variety is high. You have your standard fodder, your mobile demons that shoot fireballs, demons with jetpacks that shoot rockets, big dudes with lots of hp that shoot lasers, demons that teleport, Boss demons that are very satisfying to take down, and so many more, I love the enemies in this game, they each serve a specific purpose and multitasking never feels too hectic, especially because DOOM Guy handles like a dream, he's fast, responsive, agile, and throughout the course of the game, you'll get upgrades to his armor and movement, which also come in handy when the game slows down a bit more and asks ya to do some platforming, in order to break up the pace, keeping the combat fresh. It also in these slower sections, that you'll probably realize that this game looks gorgeous, the art style is so hellish, with very striking colors, I love it!

There are tons of things to keep track of, if you stay still you'll get your butt kicked, you gotta keep moving, constantly thinking of ways to deal with the threats up ahead, and on higher difficulty settings you'll truly feel like a one-man army doing the impossible, as some of the most intense heavy metal tracks play as you're destroying your enemies.

Like I said tho, the game does enough for me to break up the combat segments so that it doesn't get repetitive. It'll ask you to explore, find keys or secrets, platform about, put your skills to the test in some self-contained challenges you'll find in the levels, etc. There are tons more to do than just combat, the game knows how to break it up without it feeling like you're wasting your time.

This is a game that is meant to be played over and over, it's addicting, it's intense, it's satisfying and most importantly, so much fun!

The main story mode is enough for me to get my money's worth, but there's also a multiplayer mode, arcade mode, Snapmap, things like that. I haven't dabbled in those other features I have to admit, I just have way too much fun with the main adventure to even really care, but they're there should you want to try them out.

Honestly, what else can I say? I love this game, it's a masterpiece in my eyes, a shooter that is worth every little bit of money spent on it, and one of my favorite games of all time. I haven't played DOOM Eternal at the time I'm writing this, but I'm sure it'll be really good too.

Let's get the negatives out the way first: I can tolerate long loading times before starting a level, but when you're playing on a harder difficulty and dying all the time it is frustrating having to wait for the game to restart at the last checkpoint. Some of the Rune Trials are quite frustrating but maybe I just need to "git gud". As for the multiplayer, the guns feel like pea shooters probably due to the fact that any player can start a match equipped with them which means they have to be "balanced" as opposed to picking them up on the map. Snapmap needs some improvements also.

Now on to the positives: great open level design for exploration and combat, enemies are varied which compliment the variety of weapons at your disposal, bosses that aren't just bullet sponges that only have one type of attack, exposition moments are few and far between, and Doomguy is one-dimensional in the best possible way. There's a lot of reply value that you just don't seem to get in FPS's lately. I was going to complain about how uninteresting the Possesed/Unwilling are to fight, but they're perfect for completing challenges to upgrade your weapon mods.

And I haven't even mentioned how great the graphics are for something that runs at 60fps (and the amount of video options there are, even on console) and Mick Gordon's exhilarating soundtrack.

The campaign was amazing. It added unique platforming puzzles, something modern FPSs desperately need more of, and told enough of a story to be engaging but not so much that the cut scenes and set pieces were ever unwelcome. And if the secrets are not enough to keep someone going back, the upgrade system with weapons and the players suit, in addition to the sporadic rune challenges definitely will keep completion-ists occupied.

The multiplayer is also incredibly fun. It feels like the modern unreal tournament game that never will be haha. Morphing into demons, picking up power weapons, and blowing yours foes into shredded pieces of meat and bone has never been more satisfying.

Added bonus for gamers like me: the music. The music in the game, both thematic and the songs that coincide with the fiercest battles, are amazing! Mick Gordon kills it! I need to find a way to buy the soundtrack ASAP

The app shows me that 17.47 % of players have completed the game. You are giving positive reviews even though you have not played through the game. Why do you do that?

I will now write what I think of this game because I have completed it.

I first played through Doom 2016 and immediately after that I played through Doom Eternal. These are two completely different games, Doom 2016 is a superb first-person shooter, but Doom Eternal is something else. If you want to know what Doom Eternal is, please feel free to read my review.

I loved Doom 2016. The darkness, the blood in the facility from the humans trying to escape, control rooms where the humans desperately tried to fight the demons as they make their final stand. It really tells a story, tells the story of this hellish place on Mars.

When it comes to sound design, DOOM 2016 seems more realistic and modern, Doom Eternal feels more like a retro 90s game when it comes to the explosion and laser sounds.

Very well-designed levels and I never had to look from YouTube for how to play it. I felt that control was in my hands all the time and I knew what to do next.

This game hooked me to play it, I couldn't get my hands off the controller. I wanted to know what was going to happen, I wanted to kill the next monster in my way. If you have never played Doom game, you definitely have to play this game. You will not miss anything, and you will understand what this game series is all about.

This game turned out to be so driving and tooth-crushing that I want to try it again. And as a continuation of the franchise, she is very careful about the canon and lays out a simple, but very significant plot for the universe

Really cool game, I have no clue if there's a story because I didn't pay attention.

Great gameplay loop, great enemy variety and great level design. The bosses that were there were great but could have used more. Also some of the levels did feel quite similar to one another in terms of the environment. No story but it didn't really need one. Best part of the game was the boss fight with the mechanised demon- the second phase takes place in hell was a very great moment.

Hard to explain but when you try the first minute you can't get out of your mind how awesome the game is. Recommended 100%

One of the best shooters of the decade. It has this old-school feel. It's very fast-paced and without an unnecessary gameplay system - it's a pure run-and-shoot game. Lots of secrets and great tech behind graphics.

In the upcoming sequels (because let's face it, we know that they're already in development), please bring back a strong element of horror. I believe Guillermo Del Toro would be a fantastic asset for horror consultation. If you decide to go that route, I'd love to see the path this takes.

While we won't go anywhere near as far to say that this online facing side of the game is an afterthought, it doesn't carry with it the same sense of intense playtesting and meticulous detail as the solo campaign.

A tremendous return for an all-time great. Doom feels so fresh by being so old-school. [July 2016, p.75]
