I want to rate the game lower than I did.
There is such a sad excuse for a story it makes my head hurt, how could they waste this game with this story? Once you're done the story, you are faced with crushing repetition, and only the collection of stuff to keep playing for. Again, no story to drive you to keep playing, just endless loot collecting (98% of which you simply throw away because it's inferior). The soundtrack is fairly weak and the visuals are good, but not blow your mind next gen great.
The multiplayer seems to be unable to consistently pair you with players of similar skill. Have one match even, next match you get creamed, creamed again, destroy everyone, destroy everyone, balanced, creamed, creamed, destroy. There seams to be no logic to how PvP stacks players and no logic to weapon balance either.
Then I see that I have logged over 300 hours and realize that something about this game keeps you there. Something about being a Guardian patrolling an unstable buffer zone between Earth and it's enemies keeps you coming back. The action and enemies are so well crafted that you just enjoy shooting the same thing over and over. You enjoy running around the same maps over and over, kicking ass. Even writing this it looks insane to think that I just kept playing. I believe I have finally broken free from this madness, but for my dollars to hours ratio on this one, I have to give it at least an 8.

A great, smooth shooter with endless storyless hours of gameplay. Addictive personalities beware, this game will own you.

First off the campaign. This is certainly an area that is lacking in depth and quality of story we expect from the majority of FPS games and after Bungie gave us Halo we expected so much more. There is a distinct lack of story and the missions tend to be the same - either ending in a boss fight or waves of enemies. This really has a negative impact on the campaign part of the game but its not until you reach the end-game that the reason the mission structure and lack of cut-scenes are designed this way becomes apparent. They are like mini 'Strikes' and are used for 'Daily' missions for end game activity and extra rewards - this wouldn't be possible or at least work as well if the missions were more traditional. I feel as though Bungie sacrificed 'Story' to provide more end game content.

The campaign begins on Earth and as you progress through you unlock each new area until all 4 are opened up. On each area you can access the available activities whether that be individual campaign missions - something you have to do when playing through the campaign as it doesn't play through automatically, Strikes - 3 player co-op missions, Raid - 6 player co-op mission or Patrol - free roam mode. Each activity begins in a 'public' area that can be occupied by other players and you are free to go pretty much anywhere in the area - even on a mission or strike - so you can get involved in Public Events, go hunting for resources/loot or just go straight to the objective.

Strikes are the co-op part of the game and require a fireteam of 3 so if you don't have 2 others, the game will matchmake for you. These follow the same sort of pattern as the campaign mission with an end boss to beat. Raids are the pinnacle of this and by far the best content in the PvE area of the game. They are a 6 player co-op mode that requires communication and co-ordination. As such there is no matchmaking so require you to find people - either friends or people you meet playing Destiny (there are websites available too to find players) so you can find people that will compliment your fireteam and speak the same language.

Things like the Raid are part of the end-game content and for me the best part of Destiny.

Destiny also has a PvP mode with the usual team deathmatch mode but also a few other modes. Its not as varied as something like CoD but it's certainly fun. Other games have very separate areas - Campaign is very separate to co-op which is also separate from MP, but Destiny tries to tie all these together. Your 'Gaurdian' does everything and earns XP in all areas. Weapons and Armour acquired in PvP can be used in PvE and vice versa. In other FPS games, once you beat the campaign, there is little reason to return unless achievement hunting but in Destiny you can and probably will end up playing the missions a lot for bounties or Daily mission rewards.

In terms of the game mechanics, everything feels solid I can't fault it on this. It does everything you expect from a FPS and does it well. Some enemies are a bit of a bullet sponge - namely the bosses - but the array of weaponry and supers feel great to use. Visually this game is stunning too. Venus in particular looks incredible. There are similarities in enemy behaviour to those seen in Halo which isn't a bad thing as they used cover, jumped out of the way of grenades or swarmed at you.

There is so much to do daily - with bounties - both PvP and PvE, missions etc as well as weekly too. Lots of weapons and armour to collect and upgrade that it can keep you playing for many many hours. In terms of value (cost per hour) it could be one of the best buys you make and for that reason alone it earns extra marks. Like I said if you are expecting Halo 2.0 and a traditional Campaign and story then you will be disappointed but Destiny has tried to be 'different'. Its certainly much better with friends but there is still fun to be had Solo.

It feels like there is an amazing story and its been chopped up to be sold later for more money. You feel like there could be something amazing in this but it never comes and then you finish all the content. Maybe after a full year of DLC the game will actually feel like a full games worth of story.

    MMO Aspect- 3/10
You go to a city or a planet and you see others around you but there is not a good way to be able to communicate with them. Really besides the seeing them they don't feel like they do anything. Doing strikes in match making you get 1 out of 20 that have anyone talking.

    Re playability PvE - 7/10
While playing the story line you will most likely do everything you can do without forming a group. If you want to do raids you need a preformed group and that's a problem because communicating with others is difficult. There is potential for things to get better with future expansions and more content.

    PvP - 10/10
PvP is fun and the game mechanics give it a variety without feeling to be to much. There is a wide variety of weapons and looks and even player builds allowing things to be complex without being overdone. The PvP in this game alone is worth the cost.

Initially this game is ok but you can just feel how much potential it has. I really see this game going places if they keep expanding upon it.

Overall- 7/10 pushed over by the feel of potential.

This was the biggest gaming disappointment of 2014. This game has absolutely no character, no great moments. You run somewhere, hold X shoot things that come at you. THAT IS THE WHOLE PVE/CAMPAIGN GAME. PVP is actually a lot of fun, sadly. Too bad the maps are too few. The game was nowhere near finished and the budget at 500,000,000 is nowhere seen. This would be a good rent.

Imagine that, the game is so unfinished, that the users have to fill in the broken pieces. On top of that, the user generated content is much more polished and enriching than the half-ass*d, rushed storyline that is in the game. It is clear this game fell apart during the design process, as shown by the departure of the lead writer. Alpha version testers attest to how the storyline was chopped up and klugged back together, to make a nonsensical narrative.

The community "support" by bungie is laughable, as they keep making beginner mistakes. Their quick to patch player exploits, but can't even solve bugs that have been around since the beta i.e., the heave ammo bug, which has been around since launch in September 2013, that is HALF A YEAR.... SERIOUSLY?

The pvp is a joke and wildly unbalanced. Player super powers allow a single player to effectively push an "i win" button and wipe out a whole team. Shotguns have totally unrealistic ranges, and all this is after 6 months of "polish". What crap. There's a reason this game is widely disrespected and the players have left in droves.

Once you actually start playing multiplayer, you soon realize that the game is horribly unbalanced. You then logically ask yourself, "How can I gain an edge? Oh I know! I'll just grind for better gear!" So then you begin grinding through all the missions and raids in an epic quest to restore balance to the multiplayer. You then unlock some special auto rifle that promises you instant success in multiplayer. You then go into a multiplayer match with your shiny new gun, then BANG! You get killed by an ability power. This is the point where you realize the game will never be balanced, and that you only bought this game because you gave into the hype.

Terrible. Go to X, kill Y, repeat; all the missions are identical. This is the most repetitive game I have ever played. All the guns feel the same, the maps are bland and you can't talk to anyone else. That is right, no communication whatsoever unless you are in a private chat with your friends.

Very playable and can be very exciting at times, but it's too often that it's broken up by long boring missions that you've done many times over. Most events in the campaign will involve guarding something from a 'horde mode' style attack. The biggest let downs are: 1) for a game to brag about customization only to require you to use the greatest/strongest armor doesn't count as customization. Yes, you can pick what COLOR you are, but as far as what armor you are wearing you must wear the best if you with to progress. 2) The story is unfinished... Yes, if you bought this for the campaign alone then prepare for an unfinished story UNLESS you fork out $15 for every bit of DLC thats planned for the next several years 3) No exploitation in the time there actually is story. Who are these guys? Why am I killing them? What do they want? You don't know, and you'll be left not knowing. This game is just a shell of what could be an amazing game but instead just ended up being a hype machine that wants you to pay and pay and pay for more content. What is even worse is for a game that is multiplayer and an MMO there is absolutely no multipllayer aspect that is enjoyable.. The way in which to communicate with other players is non existent. I don't know if people just don't use their mics, don't know how to use their mics, or if there is no support without party chat. The Xbox One also makes things worse for MMO's if you want to call it that, because there is no multitasking without a very delayed opening of another window that takes you away from the game. Finding players is difficult and no in game application to do it. Back to the complaint about the story. We were basically sold an epic prologue only in these grinding of missions that end and send you back to orbit. There is no progression through a level or even proceeding to the next quest. Its just jump into a story arc get kicked back out to main screen. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Story: There just isn't any. Anything in the game is just a. Quick run through this while your ghost trips an alarm. You'll fight 3 to 4 waves of enemies only for the Ghost to trip more alarms and make you do the same thing. There is no variation at all. The missions are over with it just being a kill as many waves of enemies as you can and hope you can progress enough or get a drop worth a dam. Very limited cut scenes or even character development. I mean they didn't even try! Maybe they didn't have to to explain why they didn't have time to develop characters?

RAIDS: There is no matchmaking like STO or other MMO's and for the ones that lack it. I can at least go to a chat option and try to pug it myself. NOT HERE. This I have to go to the Forums and sometimes am spending hours just trying to do a run through.

GEAR: Gear is a Casino style pull the lever and see if you get lucky. When you do happen to get lucky its just stuff your recycling anyway hoping you can get enough plating or wire to upgrade some gear. It comes painfull slow until you have fully geared something. Then its just play the crucible or events until you have so much of it you don't know what to do with it.

MARKETS/AUCTION HOUSE: Most of the people that hang around the tower have useless items unless we are talking about ZUR. But considering some missions need him. You could be playing the waiting game just to progress through what should be a main story arc. The glimmer is painful to earn at times and you only seem to bank it when your just playing waiting for your weekly resets of a raid/ crucible marks etc. There is absolutely no economy

MISSIONS: First of all missions or quests are actually bounties and there really should be a separation of these and you're also extremely limited at what you can carry being ten. So Missions, Crucible, etc. Even though they upped it, it still seems lacking.

TERRITORY: Out of entire planets you spend most of your time rehashing the same landscapes forward or reverse. Not unlike other MMO's the area is extremely small and even the expansions just rehash old territories. A lot of missions are spent going through the exact same area with no difference other than the Ghost activating different doors. Shortly after the mission is over.

DAY ONE EXPANSIONS: Wish I read that more carefully before I bought them. I thought I was getting a day one special pre-order exclusive like you used to in the old days of gaming. NOPE! Just expansions that wouldn't be released for months after initial release. This just proves these things were originally in the game and taken out to be sold at a later date.

The game looks great, but there is just a shell here of what this game could be. I can't see spending 10 years playing a game that is essentially a grind. Level progression is not well thought out and neither are drops or market places. Raiding can be a giant waste of time just trying to get a group together on the forums. The game is essentially a DLC trap and not worthy of an MMO title. Borderlands is more worthy than this game because it had a dam story. MMO's are HUGE and have literally hours and hours of story that is in game NOT IN A GRIMORE CARD. For the 500 million spent on this game I want to know where all that money went?

The game literally seems like there was a lot more too it that they systematically went through and took out. I mean literally just capped off certain areas and just took characters out of the game. They didn't even try to hide it. There are just empty areas and kiosks in cities and all the areas you go. It is really sad and if this is the "New way" of gaming and telling stories. Buying chapter by chapter or Page by page in Destiny's case I am all set.

In terms of multi-player, crucible (normal player vs player) matches are extremely unbalanced. It feels like weapons and armour classes were created by spoiled brats, who just put in whatever they felt like. There is no balance at all. For many of the new players, they will be constantly at a disadvantage until they level up to 28 (ish). The problem is that takes a very very very long time. ANd you need to play a lot of game hours to get enough legendary items and mayble one exotic to be able to compete with the higher level players. This would be fine if there was a more balanced multiplayer versions.
So players must spend an enormous time doing missions to get better equipment/items. The problem is the missions are extremely repetitive, and all in all very boring.
All they need to do is fix the multiplayer. Balance out all the weapons and armour. So that it's a completely level playing field. They can have the option for unbalanced games (like the Iron Banner) as well, which would be a good compromise.

Until they fix it, if you want to waste your life, and play an unfair game that only rewards kids who have enough time to dedicate their whole lives to the game, the it's for you. If not, don't waste your money.

Destiny is a very average title from Bungie, I expected ALOT more. The story in this game is shockingly bad with missions exactly the same as the last one. It tries to be an MMO RPG but it doesn't have many powers (like 3 classes with 2 different powers each). I do however like the loot system in the game which is collecting loot in the missions or after a game or strike. The PvP is meh,Destiny is a very average title from Bungie, I expected ALOT more. The PvP is meh, chucked in as it feels like it was copied and pasted from the story ( I guess you could call it that) with maps and modes. The strikes were pretty fun but you would need a friend or 2 or 3 to help though. I would give this game a 6 overall. Expand

An absolutely terrible repatative boring limiting peice of rubbish, but this time coming from BUNGIE! This game suprised most fans, as Bungie had created arguably the best game series of all time (Halo), and then to come with this rubbish, was astonishing. The game works in levels, which isn't always a bad thing, if the levels are not all the same, and frequently spiced up a bit. However Destiny is not, it's a repetative, kill all enemies then participate with a horde mode (basically you stand there, killing waves of enemies as your ghost repares something), and Bungie, withought fail does this for every single level! Let's talk about the non existant story, which the thing (voiced by Bill Nighy) refuses to tell you, none of the enemy factions have stories, as they did in Halo. The only reason I didn't give this game a 0, is because the visuals, and the soundtrack are some of the best I've ever seen/heard. Save £40 don't buy it! Expand

This game is one of the most disappointing games I've seen bungie and activision make. The graphics are nice, but the story is boring, they force you to play online, its time consuming, and is full of bugs and glitches.

Total ripoff. The game was released in a broken state. 100% hype, 0% innovation, 100% boring gameplay and story. Bungie promised patches, but instead they started working on addons and a sequel.

Destiny is a first-person shooter in the style of Halo. Game play takes place online, so an XBox Live account is required. It has a lot of MMORPG elements to it, such as picking up PvE quests, leveling up your character, upgrading your gear, and joining PvP arenas.

The good -- The graphics and the interface are gorgeous. And the combat mechanics are top-notch; it's clear that Bungie

The good -- The graphics and the interface are gorgeous. And the combat mechanics are top-notch; it's clear that Bungie brings a world of experience to the table, gleaned from their work on the Halo franchise. Leveling up your character and getting better gear are a lot of fun. Multiplayer is a great experience. Your character is already equipped with a vehicle; you don't have to earn it. Plus, the AI of the aliens are among the best that I've seen in a game.

The bad -- There is minimal storyline. Missions are small (kill x number of these, or pick up x number of those) and feel repetitive and purposeless. Maps are large, but the missions have you running back and forth over the same map, rather than progressing from one end of the map to the other.

The ugly -- Peter Dinklage's frequently-heard voice work is lackluster, and among the worst I've heard in a video game. And overall, the game feels a bit light, as if they were holding back a lot of content for the two expansions that have been announced.

Conclusion -- Like I said, the combat mechanics are excellent. This is a great game for people who are more casual than hardcore. I plan on buying this game at some point, but not at full retail. I'm going to give it six months and pick it up for half price.

It was fun to grind and grind and grind and grind for a couple months. But the incentive for continuing is fairly empty since loot is randomised to an unfair degree, and the story isn't there.

On a lighter note, me and my friend played through the game together and it was great. If you plan on Slogging through the game then make sure you have a buddy to tag along. My experience wouldn't have been as great as it was without him. I've also heard that Raids are a rush to play, but I wouldn't know since I never bothered.

The game storyline was poorly written, and the content becomes quickly boring and hollow. There are so many bugs that occur while executing a raid that it makes it pointless to begin with.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
