    As Dangerous Golf begins to build on its core mechanics – causing as much damage and mayhem as you can before putting the ball in a hole to bank your score – it continues to deliver a fresh take on the concept.

    As it stands however, there’s still a genuinely high amount of enjoyment to be had, but frustration will likely soon mount for most players once they reach the hazard levels and putting challenges. If you miss Burnout‘s Crash Junction mode though, and are looking for something that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Three Fields’ debut into the independent game market is still an impressive attempt that warrants your attention.

    Dangerous Golf is a weird game. On paper it sounds perfect, exactly what I would want from the guys that made t-boning cars so much fun. However, in practice it feels empty. Nothing about it screams “one more hole.” Even with the changes they have made this is an empty game that lacks anything to keep me coming back for more.

    Dangerous Golf isn't really a bad game, as such, but it's probably too expensive for what it is. I was really looking forward to playing it but have ended up feeling a little unfulfilled. It's a great little time waster, but I think it would have been better as a mobile game than something sold for $20 on the Xbox One.

    Unless you have an absolute destruction fetish, Dangerous Golf provides, at best, only momentary bursts of fun. The concepts for a good game are there, but they aren’t utilized effectively and are hampered by severe issues. The game doesn’t feel good as a golf game due to the extreme lack of control and precision.

    Des anciens de Criterion ont taillé la route et fondé leur petite boîte de développement indépendante : Three Fields Entertainment... ils sontDes anciens de Criterion ont taillé la route et fondé leur petite boîte de développement indépendante : Three Fields Entertainment... ils sont juste 11 (onze) comme une équipe de foutchebôlle et à en jouer leur première production (à propos de... golf paraît-il) il s'avère qu'il s'agit bel et bien du noyau dur qui a fui l'ogre Electronic Arts, le célèbre fossoyeur de studios en tous genres de son état.

    D'habitude, je me fous totalement de savoir combien de clampins sont sur tel ou tel jeu mais au second patch, ils ont ajouté une ch'tite photo pendant l'écran de chargement avec un petit baratin comme quoi, nous, on respecte les joueurs, on est des gens dévoués et bien sûr, "merci pour l'argent" comme dirait Bigard. Cela m'a fait penser à CD Projekt évidemment, c'est pourquoi j'en fais mention : une saine attitude si rare dans le "milieu"..

    Donc, les Anglais frappadingues nous font un Golf Burnout à force coups de "smashbreakers" et d'explosions diverses et variées comme de grands enfants dans un jeu de quilles et des mammouths dans un magasin de porcelaine. L'humour est extrêmement anglais, si anglais qu'il recevrait l'approbation de Jeremy Clarkson qui te "punch in the face" parce que le dîner n'est pas encore servi. Mais on le verrait aisément pratiquer ce golf explosif dans les manoirs britanniques, la galerie des glaces de Versailles, la cuisine américaine et tutti quanti, pourvu qu'on puisse y casser le plus de choses possibles.

    Bref, on l'a compris, Dangerous Golf est dangereusement con et débilement drôle avec sa balle de golf en feu et en furie que vous tentez de diriger. "Que vous tentez", car la caméra vous mène la vie dure, à croire qu'elle n'est là que pour cela : juste vous faire chier.

    Sous ses dehors de jeu simplet se cache une prise en main assez laborieuse (certains diront que c'est "technique"...) que l'on finit malgré tout par maîtriser à la force des pouces et grâce aux nombreux conseils que le studio a rajoutés lors du patch, car outre cette maniabilité capricieuse, il faut également lever le voile sur tous les "secrets" de chaque niveau qui compte un nombre impressionnant d'objets, lesquels produiront éventuellement un bordel cataclysmique ou a contrario une tempête de pets dans un verre d'eau.

    Drôle mais aussi énervant, Dangerous Golf sait se faire pardonner et apprécier sur le long terme malgré son statut de "petit jeu idiot" ; on en découvre les arcanes au fur et à mesure et en outre, le jeu sait se montrer social puisqu'en coop, le second joueur poursuit le boxon provoqué par le premier, car incroyablement il reste toujours et encore tout un tas de trucs à casser pour "finir" une salle.

    Faute de moyens, le jeu utilise ce boulet d'Unreal Engine 4 avec ses temps de chargement, son aliasing et ses ralentissements, c'est pas pour rien qu'Epic le file gratos à qui-n'en-veut (enfin, si : ils le filent pour rien en fait...). Le petit studio anglais s'en sort malgré tout assez bien et parvient à assurer le (clou du) spectacle (tout vole et éclate au ralenti).

    La musique est un rock de merde à chier mais heureusement on peut lui fermer sa gueule. Les effets sonores sont par contre (et c'est important dans le cas qui nous occupe) d'excellente qualité et très à propos (boum kaboum splatch... ai-je mentionné que certaines missions consistent à "repeindre" des pièces entières ?).

    Voilà donc un con-centré de "l'esprit Burnout" finalement plus réussi que les Burnout eux-mêmes et encore plus hilarant. Pour un jeu de ce type, le contenu est généreux et la rejouabilité assurée : je crois que je peux (encore !) bousiller plus de trucs dans la station-service, je recommence ! et en plus, les pompes à essence explosent quand tu les touches ! gaaagaaa-gaaa, j'ai 10 ans comme dirait Souchon.    … Expand

Considering games such as Ace Golf and Outlaw Golf from 10 years or more ago, it is incredible to think that something like Dangerous Golf can even be released today and expected to please gamers.

    It's branded as an indie game, but the studio boasts veterans from Criterion (Black and Burnout games) and frankly my grandmother can create something better using blueprints in Unreal 4.

    Starting with an "intro/tutorial" video which lasts about 10 min and introduces every single mechanic and system in the game, which you then immediately forget as you are bombarded with info, to the shocking UI and user flow (i have to go back to select the next mission, even though it's in the same area), the total lack of understanding how you play the game, this is just a non starter.

    The audio is garish and visually it could be much better considering the engine and the fact that nothing really stretches performance to the limit.

    In short, avoid the game, save the money.    … Expand
