  • Summary: Daggerhood set his sights on stealing the King’s gold. Every man should have a skill and for Vincent S. Daggerhood, that skill was thieving. Armed with a dagger he can throw and reclaim by teleporting to its current position, he’s going to need your help!

Daggerhood is a safe choice if you’re a fan of punishing platformers. It does a fine job of keeping its gameplay varied and challenging via continuously introducing new and interesting mechanics. It’s a shame then, that it’s held back quite a bit by its poor boss encounters and its tendency of taking cheap-shots. Overall, I wont go so far as to say that it’s a good game, but it does just about manage to get more right than it gets wrong.

Daggerhood has one terrific thing going for it (two if you count easy Gamerscore): the dagger teleportation mechanic is brilliant and does make for some interesting level designs. It is unfortunately then bogged down by everything else, feeling like every other 2D platformer on the market.

Retro style games are what I grew up with, and I'm always eager to dive into another tough as nails platform style game. Not all retro gamesRetro style games are what I grew up with, and I'm always eager to dive into another tough as nails platform style game. Not all retro games are successful though and you do get the odd controls or lack of fun. Daggerhood isn't perfect though either, and you will find the shortcomings can be somewhat irritating at times. I immediately found the controls to be troublesome as early as level 1-5 and your 1st dash through a narrow of spikes I found they can vary (dash) and ay not be as responsive as I had hoped. That being said it didn’t happen too often, so I looked past it and enjoyed the retro style design at play. I did enjoy each of the game’s levels and variety that was presented in each world-level. I was little unimpressed with the quantity of bosses available to battle. Each one required a different approach or pattern to defeat though so defeating them was a bit rewarding rewarding. In terms of game design issues the game doesn’t have too many, just wish it had more replay ability. The story was pretty straight forward to the end. if you’re a fan of old-school or retro platforming then recommending Daggerhood is easy enough, because it will no doubt challenge you during your price of admission and take you on a journey that’s worth playing till the end. Daggerhood is a good value for the price in the end, and achievement hunters will find themselves with more than half the gamer score in just the 1st couple stages. Expand
