As you explore you are rewarded with powerups and unlock tokens. The powerups can be fun and I was amused at throwing anvils from my car at the other racers as well as some of the others but there is a risk/ reward aspect as the powerups are random and you may pick up a power down or a powerup that affects the pedestrians. The Graphics are rough and to be honest I have seen better looking original Xbox games from 10 years ago e.g. Black which whilst not a racing game just shows how bad the graphics in this game are.

The A.I.s all seem to act the same and just charge in, there's no difference between the other drivers. It would have been nice to have different drivers attempt to win the race in different ways e.g. some aggressive whilst others go for pedestrians to add variety to the races, for example, during one of my races I witnessed an A.I. driver just constantly driving round in circles oblivious to everything around him and even a few small taps from myself wouldn't knock him out of the loop.

I loved the original PC version of this game. I'm not much of a gamer. This was the exception. I bought the splat pack. I installed a 3dfx card. I played relentlessly. As a newlywed at the time my wife resented the game. So nearly 20 years later, its available on xbox. My kids have tons of games, but this is the first I ever bought for myself for xbox. This was over a year ago. I thinkI loved the original PC version of this game. I'm not much of a gamer. This was the exception. I bought the splat pack. I installed a 3dfx card. I dont know if its the game, or if its just me. It just wasn't the same. Expand

In short, if you're not a fan, steer well clear of this one.

Although suffering a not-excelling technical framework, the overall result is fairly good, offering engaging and functional gameplay. The guys at Stainless Games brought this new chapter of Carmageddon to life addressing their work toward the brand lovers. That is, we can't recommend the game to everyone but it will surely be appreciated by the franchise fans - ready to dive in this perverted mix of crazy cars - as well as by the outsider old-school game seekers. The newbies may find it quite trivial though: the entertainment is strongly hooked to the 90s concept without any significant change.

Carmageddon: Max Damage is another in an increasingly long list of games and products that sound amazing, get crowdfunded and then fail to impress or deliver on their promised grandeur.
