For the campaign, you can expect the usual scripted sequences of combat that attempt to act like a Michael Bay movie with a bit more heart. At times, Advanced Warfare pulls it off and the progression of the story comes off more thought out than CoD has been in the past. Other times it's nothing overly exciting or new, but at least it's not the disappointment that Ghosts was in 2013. Kevin Spacey is excellent but unfortunately the story and dialogue don't always allow him to shine as bright as he could and should have. In the end, I put up about 10 hours or so into the campaign on the Hardened difficulty and didn't feel like I wasted my time. As for the multiplayer, that's another story. The bread and butter of re-playability for this game is at times completely broken. First time developer Sledgehammer Games, who had only done some DLC content for Modern Warfare 3 in the past, attempt to play with the CoD formula and make the game feel a bit more modern and fresh. Very seldom does it feel like they succeeded. Maps are uninspiring and the lack of dedicated server AGAIN ruin the connectivity portion of this game. Using the exosuit for avoidance is borderline useless because your reactions might be fast enough, but the network latency isn't and as a result your attempts to survive end in tears. It's a major pitfall for CoD, the only major shooter launched regularly that has avoided the superior networking path to this day. Dedicated servers are supposedly in the works but are not available in the first weeks of the game and not every platform will get them (major bummer for some). Gametypes are largely carry-over from previous CoD games and it makes everything feel dated and overly familiar even with the changes made. Scorestreaks are impressive in some ways, especially in customization and add-on capabilities, but again too much carry-over leaves the once-bright-spot of CoD as nothing more than a flicker. As for the cooperative Exo Survival, it's Modern Warfare 3's survival mode rehashed. It's neither good nor bad and is probably the best challenge you'll get without being competitive against other players. The problem is that we've seen this done time and time again through other franchises (Halo, Gears of War, earlier CoD games) that the inclusion of this portion of AW feels like a last-minute add-on. It uses all of the same maps as the traditional matchmaking playlists and limits you to a four-player squad.

Overall, Advanced Warfare is a fairly decent game, but Call of Duty veterans will absolutely find the "been there, done that" catchphrase to be exceedingly true yet again. Advanced Warfare was supposed to be the mold-breaker that put CoD back into favorable territory for gamers, not just critics, but instead feels like a good idea that wasn't fully executed. If you haven't played CoD much in the past, this will be a good game all around for you. As for me, I've played every CoD title since Call of Duty 2. Modern Warfare 2 and the first Black Ops seem to be the last days of glory for this franchise that has since fumbled a bit more with each game launch. At least Sledgehammer tried to do something to make it fun again, that counts for something. Perhaps it's time for Activision to realize they've beat a dead cow and let CoD have a long time out before coming back in the future.

For a brand as big as COD, you would expect them to set the standard, not regurgitate stuff from other games and still only do it half-assed. This franchise has been clown shoes for the past 3 offerings. And not that great before then save MW 2 and WAW. For a "next gen" offering, its even more of a tragedy. Graphics are fairly vivid but lack any dimension or atmosphere. Sound is ok, but after hearing Battlefield or Destiny, they seem a bit bland. You just expect more from a "AAA" title. Gameplay is not nearly as fluid as past offerings and the EXO suit is more of an annoyance than anything. Others have done it far better (Titanfall, Killzone, Crysis, Destiny {jump mechanics}). But by far the most horrible part of this abortion, is the fanbase. Listening to the **** that falls out of these kids' mouths can be mildly entertaining for about 3 min. Then, its annoying and becomes a symbol of the idiocy and feeblemindedness of the **** that allow this kind of game to be made. I assure you, anyone that has rated this game higher than a 6, has the I.Q. Of a chimp with downs syndrome. Sledgehammer need to pack it up, they have brought nothing new to the table. The fact that this franchise continues to keep feeding it fan-base the same floppy dick, and the fact that they keep gobbling it up, is a testament to the stupidity of mankind. Expand

I only gave it a 4 because at least it is a playable game. Call of duty has failed yet again to ADVANCE their warfare past call of duty 4:modern warfare. it has the same exact feel in running, shooting, and now they have stolen many elements from a close competitor: titanfall.

Short campaign. We beat it in 4 hours. Mediocre multiplayer. Seems like the creator of these games has stopped caring or something. Please put more effort into the next game. This isn't worth $60. Give to charity instead.

there is no invention or art in this game ... and if you played any call of duty game in the passed 5 years you played them all , maybe if the developers take more time than they already did or stared working in a new IP
they may come up with something Special and innovated.

ok so this game is really not that good and i cant really find one pro with it so here are all my cons
    - story i mean this is awful all it is guy goes bad you then have to shoot all bad guys next big explosions then set off some type of nuke (DNA bomb) and thats it just paper thin plot with no depth
-game play know you may like the new double jump stuff but i hate, its really annoying and makes fire fights a lot more boring/longer i mean when you play MP and your with noobs and all they do is double jump around or double jump on to roofs makes for one boring MP worse in the seires
-co-op mode know i love my zombies mode from WAW and BO1 but they take survival mode from MW3 why its so boring then you have to beat 200 or 250 waves of that crap to unlock a 4 minute zombie wave which is really boring there more like muntants
but i could go on and on but i dont want to bore you with this boring game if you want a good cod to play go back to BO1 or before that thats when cod had its last glory days and for every one rating this game a ten WHAT ARE YOU ON?

Advanced Warfare however steals from Halo, Crysis, and a few others you can think of while not creatively changing the COD feel but rather preserving it and its outdated feel. They have taken the easy way yet again and didn't change much of what they didn't steal from other games.

The game is designed for new players and constantly offensive players. The latency, spawns, and endless flanks all narrow the skill gap, meaning performance is much less dependant on player skill. How can it be if any player can be instantly killed from even the most bad players, and excess flanks that create bad spawns allows for easy flanking from multiple paths, ensuring that no matter your skill level that you can still win by catching your opponents off guard a lot of the time, then getting flanked yourself by a bad nearby spawner. Then, spawn right around a corner from another player, attack from one of the many flanks, die by a flanker, repeat. There is no focus on 1 v 1 confrontations. It plays like an arena, with players taking turns flanking each other, which doesn't take much skill at all.

The game, from map design to weapons, perk system etc, is made for rushing flankers. Try another play style, and you'd be at a major disadvantage. The multiplayer is too fast paced and chaotic and doesn't support better standard paced strategies.

As a defensive kind of player who likes to see the outcome of most battles largely based on player skill ; not latency, spawns, flanks, etc, and demands complete changes to the feel of the game and not stolen ideas, I am once again disappointed.

Most map layouts are very circular making strategy games like S&D just rush and flank faster than the other team. Hard core mode (personal favorite from previous cods) can be extremely frustrating with every position having 4-5 possible flank and a spray from the double jumped dodging enemy killing you from behind. Playing as a team is nearly impossible with the lack of choke points as an enemy can get behind you in a dozen different ways. This is a run in gun game to the extreme if that's your thing this will be a good fit. If you are about strategy or outplaying the enemy I recommend passing this up.

The exo suits they include in the game ruin what was a previously fun multiplayer (ghosts aside). The game is extremely chaotic - you're constantly getting killed from the sides and behind because everyone moves so fast. There's no map control or rewards for good positioning. The game is just who has the better reactions.

I hate to say this but this is probably the worst game I've played in my entire life. I bought the game the day it hit the shelves and sold it two months later. Terrible lag. It tries to live up to its title "Advanced warfare" by adding exo suits but all exo suits are is unadvanced, stupid, and an easy way for others to kill you. Don't buy this game! It sucks!

Yet I will give it credit I liked it more then ghosts but that does not mean that this is a good game. Short campaign and the multi-player makes me never want to play online EVER again.

The campaign is some what good but the game play by itself is SO boring that I can hardly explain it. Basically bullets, face and BAM. There's not really any challenge in the game what so ever, even when you are on the hardest mode. I don't know who the heck made the campaign, but it is not realistic at all. Nobody would just attack America right out of the blue, not to mention that he said that at the United Nations. I'm just going to spoil the game for you because it is not worth going through the hour of story. The graphics (Chuckles) nobody cares about graphics unless you are a 15 year old fan boy.

The multi player is nearly tiresome, the game play is junk, the severs are as solid as wet bread, and you guessed it more of the squeaky 10 year old little idiots that are yelling to their mom to get more chocolate milk and skittles. Campers, quick scopers you get the picture. But I don't know how they screwed up the spawn points SO badly. I can not even spawn because I get killed because there are 2 spawn points. 2! That's it? I don't know how you screw it up so badly the makers of call of duty but you do it every time.

I'm not even going to count the survival crap as another part of the game because it is a BIG waste of time, and you don't even get anything out of it.

Overall the game is not even worth 5 dollars, if Xbox gave this game away for free then I would say go for it. But other than that this game is not worth to play at all just another cash grab that the makers of call of duty want to make more of those shiny graphics that are apparently so freaking important. But in my opinion it is just a rip off of titan fall, basically almost everything in here is just a rip off of titan fall. Whoever says it isn't is just in denial cause they know. HEY SHUT UP COD FAN BOYS! This IS a rip off of titan fall get over it. But I guess I will end in a good note because I sad I liked it better then Ghosts. So there's that.

The graphics aren't that great, however, I'm pretty sure noone expects them to be at this point. The single player campaign was forgettable. You'll obvsly not be playing through that gem again. Honestly, COD: Ghosts was at least a point and a half better than this game.

My second issue is the same that i had with ghosts: they might as well add only 2 weapon categories to this game's multiplayer: SMGs and Assault rifles. Why use a sniper when you will get blown away by an AR that has the same range, accuracy, and fires far faster. Why use a shotgun when your gonna get beaten 9/10 times by smg users that kill you up close. Why even include these specialized guns when more generic weapons are better in every way. Just about every player uses one of those two gun types (smg, ar) and the person who wins ALWAYS does. You might as well just save time and money by just including one gun called "generic rifle". It wouldnt change multiplayer one bit. rant over Expand

A lot of us have been looking forward to a new COD that's a lot like COD4 and WAW etc., including myself. Wasn't really looking forward to another futuristic shooter to be honest.

To start things off, once you get this bad boy installed, you will get a personal thank you from Sledgehammer Games. The campaign is awesome and the multiplayer is a down right blast! Multiplayer will seem crazy, different and very hectic at first, but you'll get used to it quickly. Once one gets used to the exo abilities, wild map designs and the verticality of the game, you won't want to put the controller down. Even though the game is set in the future, the COD feel is for sure still there and it's not too futuristic either. Paintball mode makes it easy to track your shots and is definitely a very cool option to the game. There are some really fun new game modes like Uplink, which is pretty much like capture the flag, but instead of a flag, you carry and can even pass a small spherical satellite that needs to be brought to the upload site in order to gain team scores. There's also classic mode which takes away the exo abilities for that old school type gameplay if it's desired. Excellent balance of weapon types, perks and score steaks. At first it may be tough obtaining the score streak rewards, but they come easier as you start to master your classes and play style.

I have enjoyed the COD's of the past, especially COD4 and WAW. Black Ops and yes even Ghosts were fun too, but this may now be the "King of The Hill" by a long shot. Even though I enjoyed the past COD's, it's been a long time since I've had that "itch" to play and play again. If you liked COD in the past and are looking for a fresh twist of things, this is your game. Once again, the game will take some getting used to and sometimes it's hard to accept change, but just strap in and hold on tight because you have a wild ride in store for yourself.

Thank you Sledgehammer Games for bringing us this masterpiece and revitalizing the COD franchise. You hit it out of the park and I'm so glad to have the desire to play COD again. I sure hope Treyarch is working extremely hard on next years COD because they've got their work cut out for them now. As much as I would like to see a new COD4, it's going to be very hard to go back to a "slower" type of gameplay now!

WHen I saw the trailer and saw who made it(Sledgehammer Games) I thought for a second, oh no. Another Mw3?
But I kept a open mind to it. I pre-orded the Day Zero. I played it a bit and WOW I must say, maybe it's the best COD since World at War(my favorite COD). I am not a fanboy, I am normally critically(check out my ratings, on other games and movies)

The Mulitplayer: Okay, listen, this one IS different than the other games. Same HUD and Loadout from Black Ops 2, but that's it. The EXO-Skeleton makes it run so smooth. I have always been a run and shoot guy(Giant Serious Sam fan, even my emblem is Serious Sam LOGO), and this Game will give us a chance with that. The Quickscope is reduced, so it is harder(I love it) the map are from Small to Large, so it's always fresh. Maps have the dynamic touch from Ghost, some of them changes. Litteraly. There is this one map I can't recall the name on, you are there capturing the flags, suddenly a voice is speaking, "we need to open the doors, a deadly gas is inbound". suddenly the flags disapeaer and a new area of the map will open and with NEW possiblities, it's a fresh idea for COD, and it's the right way, at the beginning I thought. COD AW would kill the franchise, but it have only saved it.
Make your own character. get different weapons with more damage or less. It's NEW for COD, I know other games already have added it for their games years ago. But we are focusing on COD and not Borderlands and Battlefield, it's a positive way for COD and it's the right.

I have completed Single Player, and Oh Boy it's one of the better Campaigns in the COD Franchises.

I would highly recommend COD: AW for anyone who is missing a good and FUN MP.
(The survival OPs is like the one from MW3) nothing new has changed.

But I am only reviewing short about MP, because that's the only thing peope will be focusing and playing.
(I am not a douche, but it is sadly true)

(Sledgehammer games said from the beginning, they made COD AW, to make it a fun MP and not "taken that much seriously" as the previously games in Franchise, and it sure delivered that. There is less raging in this game, because you CAN have good time.. and make nice and fun kills.

Advanced warfare opens up once again in the future (who would have thought) as you play poorly developed guy no.12 as he fights cliche movie villain no.7 as they fight using monologues in the most cinematic experience in the most fast paced shooter of all time. As you apparently play as someone your supposed to care about who cares about other people. Now my question is, if i already hate the protagonist why the hell should i like the even more unlikable secondary characters "because plot dammit". Now since i cant in my own words describe the stupidity that is the campaign ill let you invent it for yourself. See that COD i'm giving a person choice wink **** wink you dense bastards. I honestly wish that combat was solid i wish i could, but its as variable as a person with dementia remembering where the toilet is. The game throws random equipment at you, telling you use that, when honestly the game isn't all that hard and bang, bang shooty shooty always works so why change tactics, thruster jump is only limited by COD's love of invisible walls and development shortcuts that makes me think did i buy hold my hand simulator 2014. Now onto the important part the multiplayer, it's **** and honestly if you buy a game just for multiplayer i feel sad for you. That concludes the piss-tacular review and i hope you find this travesty as appalling as i did

Fun, fast and power jumping! I haven't had this much fun since Bad Company 2! I've been having fun with this game, both in multiplayer and campaign. Sorry for the "COD Vets" the don't appreciate what Sledgehammer games has done to make a once stalled franchise into something FUN again!

Why fix something not broke? Me and my wife love the COD series and have been playing them for around 10 years now. This is by far the worst to us. Looks like I will be looking for a new series that decides to pick up where the old COD left off. Exoskeleton was a terrible idea for true COD fans. Expand

Shocked and disappointed how poor it is. I've had every COD since MW, and its normally my 'main' game for the year. I usually prestige 3-4 times on multiplayer before my attention wanes, but this just felt lame. I put in 20hours into multiplayer then traded it in, luckily only lost £2, but I notice the second hand price has plummeted since, so I'm guessing lots of other people had the same idea. Put it this way, Playing this made me appreciate TitanFall all the more. Expand

If you play Call Of Duty online all year round then Christmas has officially come early. But if you’re a sucker for the ludicrous, globe-trotting, re-skinned James Bond adventures that constitute these games in single player, you’ve picked the perfect year in which to take a twelve-month break.

Advanced Warfare is still Call of Duty, but it's more playful, knowing and refreshing than COD's been in years. [Christmas 2014, p.112]

In many ways, the game is the perfect distillation of the franchise's core appeal. But it's still just Call of Duty, don't expect it to revolutionize the industry. [Issue#118, p.61]
