This is the first Call of Duty game that I've bought since Black Ops 1 and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The story is very engaging and enjoyable. Bullet lag is the worst it's been in a long time, dying well behind cover. It simply feels unpolished and lacks the finish that we have come to expect from this title.

The new exo movements and abilities are intriguing and would take a while to get used to, and make the game even exciting, if the rest of the issues got fixed first.

Let's not even talk about the spawns.........they should know better by now.....

I simply can't wait to put this on the shelf until they fix what should have been done already.

I been bored with the yearly COD "DLC" since Blops, but this is a different beast.

A lot of people are saying that this is the same COD experience as every year, don't listen because they haven't played it. This is COD on steroids and the verticality makes a massive difference to the MP.

I got this for £40 and it's worth every single hard earned penny.

This latest Call of Duty has done some cool things to mix it up. Personally, i like the Boost Jump as it makes the game more dimensional, and adds more tactics to kill or avoid dying. Brought me back to the old Unreal Tournament days, which were great at Multiplayer (note to Activision, these worked..learn!)

The Campaign, while short was fun to do. But as all COD games have had short Campaigns, I had no expectations for a longer one. Ultimately, long term COD players buy the game for the Multiplayer, not the single.

But the same issues with the Multiplayer maps still exist as have always done. The amount of times i get shot in the back far outweighs the front shots(and vice versa), mainly because the spawn system permanently places new spawns in flanking positions. This becomes infuriating when you look down a path, see no-one, only to be shot 5 secs later as someone spawned behind you.
The maps are built on a circular spawn system, so actively encouraging flanking and backstabs. and you can do nothing about it. We need maps and spawns with sides and make people meet each other on equal terms. Older maps like Nuketown, while manic, at least meant I know where my enemy will be, and made the game a lot more fun.
On top of this, Lag seems to be an issue on the PS3 version, obviously the port has flaws, and having screen lag while trying to avoid been fragged is annoying, as 9/10 you end up dying!
Weapons are the old tried and tested..and we're still mssing the old awards like MDK..they were fun, put them back in.
And making weapons level dependent is also annoying. This means that a level 40 has a lot more choice and usually of the best stuff than a level 10. Not to mention the care packages with elite weapons. Better either to unlock everything or at least make it a buy with points(AKA ghosts), so I can get the weapons etc I want early enough to put me on equal footing with the lvl 40's.

I really wish I had kept the money for Assassins Creed Unity or Dragon Age Inquisition... The graphics dont really look much of an improvement from the xbox 360 version of Ghosts... The game often lags horribly to the point ill be behind a building and end up dying in front of it... ok so thats not necessarily the games fault but it hardly makes the game fun and no other multiplayer games have this issue... the campaign is dull at the best of times and the ai is horrid, your own team running in front of you as your firing at the enemy who all tend to sit there poking their heads over obstacles, really???? I mean come on is this the future? Is this innovation I think not, when I first saw the sneak peaks I thought it looked like a rip off of titanfall... but in a more familiar setting which aside from not being able to wall run its not far off but its far from being as polished. On the plus side I like the idea of the supply drops and getting loot from them and the customising of the player character is good... however I am at a loss as to how this got 84 and destiny which is a far better game despite its lack of content and story got a 77????? WTF????? really, just dont waste your money, save it and buy something worthy of the money, boycott the rubbish that is COD until they start producing something that actually returns to the roots and provides a solid multiplayer experience... of course if your a spotty 12 year old chav then buy away it will keep you from annoying us adults on other games. I've been playing since the first Call of Duty ever created, and my least favorite game is not COD: Ghost(not the best but not the most awful either) but COD: Mw3 was a downside, anyway to this game:

WHen I saw the trailer and saw who made it(Sledgehammer Games) I thought for a second, oh no. Another Mw3?
But I kept a open mind to it. I pre-orded the Day Zero. I played it a bit and WOW I must say, maybe it's the best COD since World at War(my favorite COD). I am not a fanboy, I am normally critically(check out my ratings, on other games and movies)

The Mulitplayer: Okay, listen, this one IS different than the other games. Same HUD and Loadout from Black Ops 2, but that's it. The EXO-Skeleton makes it run so smooth. I have always been a run and shoot guy(Giant Serious Sam fan, even my emblem is Serious Sam LOGO), and this Game will give us a chance with that. The Quickscope is reduced, so it is harder(I love it) the map are from Small to Large, so it's always fresh. Maps have the dynamic touch from Ghost, some of them changes. Litteraly. There is this one map I can't recall the name on, you are there capturing the flags, suddenly a voice is speaking, "we need to open the doors, a deadly gas is inbound". suddenly the flags disapeaer and a new area of the map will open and with NEW possiblities, it's a fresh idea for COD, and it's the right way, at the beginning I thought. COD AW would kill the franchise, but it have only saved it.
Make your own character. get different weapons with more damage or less. It's NEW for COD, I know other games already have added it for their games years ago. But we are focusing on COD and not Borderlands and Battlefield, it's a positive way for COD and it's the right.

I have completed Single Player, and Oh Boy it's one of the better Campaigns in the COD Franchises.

I would highly recommend COD: AW for anyone who is missing a good and FUN MP.
(The survival OPs is like the one from MW3) nothing new has changed.

But I am only reviewing short about MP, because that's the only thing peope will be focusing and playing.
(I am not a douche, but it is sadly true)

(Sledgehammer games said from the beginning, they made COD AW, to make it a fun MP and not "taken that much seriously" as the previously games in Franchise, and it sure delivered that. There is less raging in this game, because you CAN have good time.. and make nice and fun kills.

Buy it! if you need some games lately.

This could have got a lot of work done, and would've been better as an expansion pack or DLC, not as a full game. Online multiplayer has many bugs, such as maps where you can go through walls. Its a good game, but it has many flaws, 3/5 stars.

    - Most, if not all maps encourage a kind of frantic, overwhelming randomness to combat flow. Variety in map design (such as limiting flanking routes, fortifying objective points, or forcing face to face confrontation) would help decrease paranoia and player vulnerability. On the other hand, a map or two that capitalizes a bit more on “verticality” might make jump boosting feel less gimmicky and more essential overall.
    - Gun balancing issues (some guns are blatantly too circumstantial to be practical).
    - The loot reward system is ultimately an uninspired attempt at gamer crack.
    - Melee feels notably awkward a bit too frequently.
    - Audio is nothing special (headsets do seem a bit less advantageous than they were in previous COD’s).
    - Graphics are nothing special
    - Game mechanics are nothing special
    - Various connectivity issues as well as a few glitches/bugs.

    *Da Good(ish)*
    - The jump boosting mechanic and a few other design choices (in part) attempt to dissolve what is otherwise a widely reinforced idea (to some degree), that the COD series (after 4) is generally camper friendly, and requires little to no “skill” to play relatively well. Though I think the attempt is a step in the right direction (a wee little baby step), Sledge still has much further to go if they wish to reinstate the competitive nature of MW while maintaining innovation- and by now, many people are losing hope, if they haven’t lost it all already.

    On campaign
    - Too short, cinematic, generally decent.

I don't even know where to start. Only played an hours worth but the controls are arcade-y as **** aiming down the sights and you can barely turn left or right to track your target, even with high sensitivity. Hit detection and aim assist feel really bad too but that might just take some getting used to.

Must have been spawn killed at least 1 in 10 deaths, which doesn't sound like a lot

Must have been spawn killed at least 1 in 10 deaths, which doesn't sound like a lot but it is (FYI mostly had a 2.0 KDR I am not **** :P).

Lag compensation is still clearly alive, watching some kill cams it is hilarious to see the enemy emptying an entire clip at you while on your screen the guy fired like one round.

Maps are clearly designed for the extra vertical dimension but it just makes them a cluster**** because in addition to there being multiple entry points to any position there are multiple entry points on 2-3 levels now, tactical gameplay using choke points is gone you are exposed constantly.

And jesus christ the graphics are ugly, it's like Duke Nukem 3D got textures from Duke Nukem Forever, but the level of detail is **** MW2 looked better ffs. Next gen? More like last gen.

COD just can't capture emotion and felt quite repetitive, doing similar objectives on similar maps. Most importantly though is that there are no new shiny cool toys to play with. One big thing I don't understand in the campaign is that why dose one of the bad guys join the UN then immediately starts a war with the UN and I assume gets kicked out.

    Multiplayer:
It’s just more of the same in my eyes yeah you can jump a bit higher but there's map restrictions so you can only jump to certain locations so no change there. The biggest and probably most annoying is the loot boxes. Like destiny there’s chances to get gear like elite weapons which can do more damage than the normal ones. YAY RDM just what cod needs when that higher level guy has all the equipment he now has better guns with it.

Why can you jion a ranked gae half way though and why is it only search and destroy im not playing cs im playing cod.

Some of the bigger maps can be quite fun but being knifed off spawn is never fun just frustrating or looking at your own dead body and giving someone a double kill. Following the trend of video games. If halo is bad I’m selling my console and going back to the succulent teat of steam.

The Multiplayer is the reason I'm giving this a low score, in fact were it not for the Campaign (which so far is stellar, COD usually gets this right) and Exo-Survival (which I personally find more enjoyable than Treyarchs Zombies) the score would probably be like a 3 or 4.

    My reasons are simple.

1). The TTK is WAAAAAY to fast, it makes the Exo almost useless if you die before you even know you're getting shot at.

2). This is supposed to be "Next Gen" and we still don't have dedicated servers.

3). After playing Battlefield 4 for the first time last month 6 v 6 is a joke. A JOKE.

4). See above for destructible environments. I throw a grenade and it DOESN'T leave a hole in the ground? Sounds like small potatoes until you see a game do exactly that.

5). See above for levolution. In fact, their scripted events like the tidal wave and volcano eruption are a joke. A JOKE. Almost insulting in fact.

Because of those last three things COD will get no more of my dollars until they update their ridiculously old engine to incorporate ACTUAL next gen quality games. I give kudos to sledgehammer for trying something new at least. The game is slick, the graphics are nice, it's definitely a step up from the horror show that was Ghosts, but at this point I have to agree with the so many I used to argue with. COD has become so outdated by other games it's gotten ridiculous.

Now that I am playing this game after so many years I can finally say that I feel refreshed and the series is coming back alive like it did back with COD 4. The movements are way more fluid than "Titanfall" (everyone compares this game to Titanfall lol) because they didn't throw in the wall running and extra wall hanging. When a game has too many movements and actions, it gets really tiresome to play and Advanced Warfare nailed it on the head with how seamless the game runs. The graphics are the best I think I have seen on any of the games I have for the Xbox One, even better than Ryse: Son of Rome. The voice acting is phenomenal, with Kevin Spacey doing a great job along with the other actors. The new facial animations and performance capture are so life like it looks like a movie during many of the cut scenes. The action is intense and fun and addictive. The sound effects are hugely improved over past games with the guns and impacts and explosions sounding like you've been dropped into the middle of a live war zone. The weapons and technologies on display are jaw dropping. It's just a phenomenal game and experience. I was really disappointed with Ghosts, and actually would even go as far as saying I pretty much hated that game because it was so formulaic and uninteresting and looked like an Xbox 360 game graphically rather than next gen. Advanced Warfare is a huge return to form for the series and is thrilling and amazing and next gen in every way. What a turn around. Can't recommend it highly enough. Expand

    aw has some errors

    1) laggy controls (some times it just stops working for a moment) [ps4/rus] 2) graphics dont looks so great (just look at top console fps and see difference)(some top fps battlefield 4, titanfall, destiny) 3)weapon design is poor and half weapons just copied from ghosts (not best half imo) 4)on ps4 players machmaking just dont work, everytime 3-4 ppl in game have

For all you out there who like to give 0's to a game, you all are a bunch of morons. If you don't have anything better to do, then by all means. As far as CODaw, i like the game. The MP is really fun. It does take some time to get use to the speed, but after i played for a few hours it was a breeze. Although this version of CoD claims to be geared toward both online competitive PvP shooting, and story-based narrative experience, the narrative part is so brief that it seems put there just to make a claim. Don't be fooled, there is very little here for the single-player (although the small amount of content is well-made, only making me wish it was substantial). This isn't a narrative you would find in a game like Fallout. It isn't even Borderlands. This is a PvP online shooter, and almost exactly like the previous CoD games. Refined, but lacking the magic. If you like lining up crosshairs and pressing a button over and over, this game is for you! Expand

If you play Call Of Duty online all year round then Christmas has officially come early. But if you’re a sucker for the ludicrous, globe-trotting, re-skinned James Bond adventures that constitute these games in single player, you’ve picked the perfect year in which to take a twelve-month break.

Advanced Warfare is still Call of Duty, but it's more playful, knowing and refreshing than COD's been in years. [Christmas 2014, p.112]

In many ways, the game is the perfect distillation of the franchise's core appeal. But it's still just Call of Duty, don't expect it to revolutionize the industry. [Issue#118, p.61]
