I do not understand the hate this game gets, all those zeros, this is not in no way a bad game. It is a very underrated game that gets too much hate. The campaign is one of my favorite COD campaigns, very fun and replayable. Multiplayer is very fun as well there is lots of fun to be had and the maps are all interesting and stand out compared to the other CODs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is Sledgehammers' first attempt at making a full Call of Duty installment. And I think they did a pretty good job in regard to that. But that doesn't mean that it's the best when it's in comparison to previous and future installments.

The story begins with a cliche death that you don't really care about since you've not been able to create any sort of bond with the character. But it's the means to push the story forward and to fully introduce you to "Atlas" which totally isn't the bad guy.

After a few missions, you kill the leader of a terrorist group that recently caused a big nuclear situation that left many cities devastated. But the leader of the terrorist group gives you a USB stick that shows that Atlas knew of the threat and decided to let it happen for profits (who would have guessed a big corporate private army would become the enemy,)

Then you connect with your old team with Sentinal and go to fight your once ally now for Atlas. Which you technically never successfully achieve because the story ends with you killing the leader instead of Atlas being completely destroyed (as hinted in the game after you complete the final mission.)

Overall the story is not memorable but not terrible. Gunplay was alright though the aerial mission near the end where you control a fighter jet felt weird with and without inverted controls.) A good first attempt by Sledgehammer but not that impressive when compared to the other games in the series.

"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" is a solid improvement over its predecessor "Call of Duty: Ghosts". Released in November 2014, it was the best COD game I had played in years. Unlike previous entries, this one features the likeness of a major Hollywood actor. In "Advanced", Kevin Spacey plays a corrupt C.E.O. who isn't a far cry from his "House of Cards" character. Gameplay-wise, the big innovation is the exo-suits which are right out of the sci-fi flick "Elysium". Their inclusion in multiplayer help quicken the pace to the combat in both competitive and cooperative modes. Unfortunately, the suits' abilities are restricted in the otherwise entertaining campaign.

One of the game's highlights are the visuals. Graphically, it is a solid jump up from the previous gen's COD titles. The single player takes on the form of a futuristic "Modern Warfare" with cool tech such as the sticky gloves from "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol". Developer Sledgehammer Games (they co-created MW 3) has not only done a steady job with the single player and multiplayer aspect, but have added their own zombies experience. The exo-suits give the "Advanced Warfare" zombie maps a different feel from Treyarch's zombies. AW also includes a cooperative survival mode that featues waves of different enemies. It can be played with four players and is quite fun though it lacks depth.

Overall, this is a solid entry in the "Call of Duty" franchise. It may not be a masterpiece, but it is a solid outing. I'd rate it with an 8.3 out of 10.

Asides from the multiplayer, the campaign is great although the storytelling isnt the best (but still good) the level design was great and it took advantage of the exo suits really well. As for zombies and the DLC maps, it was ok but i dont think it's worth the money, although i did enjoy the exo survival mode. Up until the release of Modern Warfare in 2019, this was my all-time favorite Call of Duty. Being given an exo suit with incredible power and punching all sorts of enemies was satisfying all the time. While the missions were a little restrictive, they never got boring. The only gimmick I hated was the mag-gloves. These pieces of trash forced you to go straight up, down, left, or right; you can't go diagonal which makes it so annoying. The other tech you are given is so much fun and mixes up the gameplay. The advanced movement, lethal and tactical gear is incredible. The survival mode was hard, but an excellent mode and new spin to survival from Modern Warfare 3. The objectives you are given are fun, and so are the upgrades you can get. Zombies at first I was very critical of, but now I think it was just not what I was used to, but it was a good thing none the less and had some good twists to the gameplay. The one thing I HATE about it though is the EMP zombies because at one point, the ability to jump really high is NEEDED and the moment you can't do that, it's more about running for your life until you regain power than it is about the carnage. The multiplayer is probably the worst part of the game and has been the only time that I feel like I'm suffering when playing. The boosted jump makes shooting idiots near impossible. Some tactical items are now nearly pointless because of the boosted jump. Guns needed to be more powerful because of the boosted jump. This was just a poor case for multiplayer. Expand

Both games are a military science fiction first-person shooter and both have similar game mechanics. Also in both games they have exo-suits which enhance your character's abilities and movements. Such as walking on walls, punching someone into the air, sliding across the battlefield, super stomp, and super jump. Some differences they have are the weapons.

One thing I don’t like about Black Ops 3 is they do not have a lazer shotgun and rifle but Advanced Warfare does. Also Black Ops 3 you can change your character but you can’t in Advanced Warfare. In Advanced Warfare you can customize your character with different equipment. Some things I would want to see in the next game in the series is both Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 combined. Also with the multiplayer I would have to say that they are similar but a few differences such as you can choose your player model in BO3 and in AW you can customize and choose your player-model.

Also in multiplayer you have to kill the other team before they kill you. There are many different game modes in these games. There is Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Search and Destroy and Mosh Pit. These game modes also can be played in hardcore mode which you do not know how much ammo you have and no mini map.

In Capture the flag you have to go on the enemy's territory and bring their flag to your base. In team deathmatch you have to get to 75 kills before the enemy team. Also you kill the enemy team and one enemy equals one kill. In Search and Destroy you play as the diffuser or planting the bomb. There are two different bomb locations. As diffuser if a bomb is planted you have to go diffuse it and you win or you could kill the bomber before he plants. In mosh pit is is a mixture of all of these.

So Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare are good games that still keep the COD franchise moving. Even Though ADV is an older game that BO3 had to follow they are still keeping gamers interested in the Call of Duty series.

Jet packs make the pacing faster, but it can prove challenging if this isn't your style of gameplay with people jumping around all the time. I found the map design to be superior in striking a balance between offering some camping spots but not too many, but not so run-and-gun-centric like typical 3 lane maps that don't allow much besides running down a lane or waiting for someone to run down the lane. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is amazing and terrible at the same time. The campaign, in my opinion, is the best in Call of Duty history. Zombies is a somewhat flawed experience, but, nevertheless, is fun. Multiplayer, however, has the most issues. One can simply pay to level up and get better gear, making for a imbalance. This makes the multiplayer a tough experience to enjoy.

This game was a good attempt to revive COD but fell short. Kevin Spacey did a great job acting and the campaign was a load of fun. However, the multiplayer became very boring very quickly and is very unbalanced because supply drops give out OP weapons.

ZOMBIES: Everyone's favorite undead nazis are back (Though all I really saw were a bunch of them wearing burger king outfits. I guess the whole world domination thing didn't work out for them, and now they have to flip patties for minimum wage like the rest of us.) This time though, they have some how progressed from barely being able to break down wood barricades to operating complicated and expensive military thrust packs.
Im also glad to see that they have continued with the always complicated easter eggs that have steps that go something like this:

Step !. Find a paperclip and some duct tape
Step 2: Use the paperclip and duct tape you found to create and enigma machine
Step 3: The enigma machine should spit out a bunch of code.
Step 4: Take that code to Magic Johnson's house and he will decipher it for you and tell you it is the secret to how he has managed to stay alive and have such a (HIV) Positive outlook on life while suffering from a debilitating disease like AIDS.
Step 5: Return with your new found knowledge and start developing a cure for AIDS
Step 6: Realize that the previous 5 steps have taken you 32 rounds to complete and immediately get killed by a high level zombie before you are done with developing the cure.

TL:DR: You are super lazy if you think that this review is long enough to require this.

With that being said, Sledgehammer's "Advanced Warfare" is an improvement over the very basic "Ghosts" which was made by Infinity Ward, the series' creator. The PS4/XBOX ONE version of AW is a visual stunner that runs at the usual 60 FPS. It's the futuristic gadgets and Kevin Spacey that make this COD stand out. The story is Tom Clancy-lite with Spacey's villain taking center stage. He plays Jonathan Irons, an evil C.E.O. who provides private military contractors with advanced warfare technology. In the end, Irons is just another Bond-like bad guy who wants to profit from world war, but Spacey brings class to the role. The thrilling gadgets featured in the campaign include the sticky gloves that Tom Cruise used in "Mission Impossible", thermal vision grenades, exo-skeletons, mechs and mobile heat-seeking missile launchers. It's all very cool, yet familiar thanks to the obligatory scripted events. The exo-skeletons are used in multiplayer which gives it a faster-pace and the new modes are enjoyable. However, the new cooperative survival mode is not as good as the one featured in "Modern Warfare 3". It supports four players and maps can be unlocked by replaying levels, but it quickly becomes tiring due to boring mini-challenges and limited enemy types. I bought the first DLC pack and the new zombies map is a very basic one; a throwback to the zombies found in the original "Black Ops". Overall, the game is solid one, but not a very groundbreaking one. This isn't the masterpiece of "Modern Warfare" nor is it the vanilla "Ghosts". It's good, but the peak of the series has already past. 8.4 out of 10. Expand

Then there's multiplayer, Jesus, it's awful, the multiplayer feels like CoD Modern Warfare 2 because everyone uses heavy weapons (like rockets or laser rifles, or the only revolver), and other Over Powered weapons. Also, the Supply drops is where it ruins the multiplayer, by adding even more Over Powered guns like the Obsidian Steed, Insanity, Silver Bullet, Inferno, Relic, and way too many more. And my, anyone's luck in the multiplayer is really bad - I only managed to get two good elite guns in my 30+ hours I invested in multiplayer, I even bought Advanced Supply Drops, what's so advanced about them is that they somehow manage to give you garbage despite looking like a big gold bar. And The Zombies, I felt Exo Zombies was bland and boring, good level design aside, the zombies mode isn't good, they try to copy Treyarch's Zombies formula and add Exo Suits and make everything look all futuristic, and add WAY too many types of zombies. But Advanced Warfare has its moments, it still deserves an okay score. Expand

The thing is with call of duty is that it is no longer haha bad and is kinda like a homeless beggar asking for a hand of change every time you cross a bend offering to jump up and down like a money, which is entertaining maybe up to the 5th time, but eventually gets tiring and redundant soon after, with the hobo wearing a hat or maybe some sunglasses to reinvent the act but its essentially the same thing over an over again with another look to it. Now if your too retarded to understand what i mean by that, it is a metaphor, you know comparing one thing to another, Ahh forget it your probably playing the game right now aren't you. Advanced warfare opens up once again in the future (who would have thought) as you play poorly developed guy no.12 as he fights cliche movie villain no.7 as they fight using monologues in the most cinematic experience in the most fast paced shooter of all time. As you apparently play as someone your supposed to care about who cares about other people. Now my question is, if i already hate the protagonist why the hell should i like the even more unlikable secondary characters "because plot dammit". Now since i cant in my own words describe the stupidity that is the campaign ill let you invent it for yourself. See that COD i'm giving a person choice wink **** wink you dense bastards. I honestly wish that combat was solid i wish i could, but its as variable as a person with dementia remembering where the toilet is. The game throws random equipment at you, telling you use that, when honestly the game isn't all that hard and bang, bang shooty shooty always works so why change tactics, thruster jump is only limited by COD's love of invisible walls and development shortcuts that makes me think did i buy hold my hand simulator 2014. Now onto the important part the multiplayer, it's **** and honestly if you buy a game just for multiplayer i feel sad for you. That concludes the piss-tacular review and i hope you find this travesty as appalling as i did

There is never anything overwhelmingly new (apart from the boost jump).
Will the next one be just the same?

The campaign is some what good but the game play by itself is SO boring that I can hardly explain it. Basically bullets, face and BAM. There's not really any challenge in the game what so ever, even when you are on the hardest mode. I don't know who the heck made the campaign, but it is not realistic at all. Nobody would just attack America right out of the blue, not to mention that he said that at the United Nations. I'm just going to spoil the game for you because it is not worth going through the hour of story. The graphics (Chuckles) nobody cares about graphics unless you are a 15 year old fan boy.

The multi player is nearly tiresome, the game play is junk, the severs are as solid as wet bread, and you guessed it more of the squeaky 10 year old little idiots that are yelling to their mom to get more chocolate milk and skittles. Campers, quick scopers you get the picture. But I don't know how they screwed up the spawn points SO badly. I can not even spawn because I get killed because there are 2 spawn points. 2! That's it? I don't know how you screw it up so badly the makers of call of duty but you do it every time.

I'm not even going to count the survival crap as another part of the game because it is a BIG waste of time, and you don't even get anything out of it.

Overall the game is not even worth 5 dollars, if Xbox gave this game away for free then I would say go for it. But other than that this game is not worth to play at all just another cash grab that the makers of call of duty want to make more of those shiny graphics that are apparently so freaking important. But in my opinion it is just a rip off of titan fall, basically almost everything in here is just a rip off of titan fall. Whoever says it isn't is just in denial cause they know. HEY SHUT UP COD FAN BOYS! This IS a rip off of titan fall get over it. But I guess I will end in a good note because I sad I liked it better then Ghosts. So there's that.

The action scenes in this game are pretty amazing if I have to be honest. The sound as well is another thing that makes these games more playable because when a action scene is happening the sound really dose catch the impact it would have if it happened in real life.

The villain of the game Jonathan Irons played by the Oscar winning actor Kevin Spacey. Spacey did a fine job playing the villain, nothing really special I mean through out the game I kept seeing Frank Underwood from the TV show House of Cards which is nothing wrong with that I'm just saying.

The characters you don't really care about I mean they just stick in the mood point A to B characters that you don't get attached to and when something happens to them I'm there not caring at all.

With a sped up multiplayer it redefines the call of duty franchise and not in a good way. It shines the light on the fact that change does not mean better. After mediocre reviews for Ghosts (a game that I personally like very much) Call of Duty decided that it needed to go in a different direction with the new game. While this wasn't a bad thought, the execution was lackluster. Starting at CoD4 and ending with BlackOps2 (with the exception of WaW) CoD had employed a simple strategy and kep it by just simply realizing if it ain't broke don't fix it. The games didn't introduce large scale changes but instead opted for a new take on the same old thing: a game based on mostly modern concepts of war and realistic movement and tactics. With Advanced Warfare the creators saw that it was time for a change which I did agree with, but the implementation of a brand new exo suit based movement system was where I believe the series struck not gold, but maybe something a little less captivating, let's say plastic. The new system of movement completely destroyed what I had come to know as Call of Duty in my 8 years of CoD experience. Even with Ghosts, Infinity Ward managed to produce a good game just by implementing the same old system and re-imagining only the little things like killstreaks and guns. The creators of AW took a great chance with the exo suit but in my opinion it did not pay off but instead showed many that without risk nothing bad can happen and made me very thankful for a Ghosts game ridiculed for a lack of originality. That is why I believe that AW killed CoD and what those three words, Call of Duty, meant to me. Expand

The exo suits they include in the game ruin what was a previously fun multiplayer (ghosts aside). The game is extremely chaotic - you're constantly getting killed from the sides and behind because everyone moves so fast. There's no map control or rewards for good positioning. The graphics have actually improved it seems, well done guys, i knew i could believe in you. The multiplayer is a lot of fun, great new weapons to own some noobs at. But the multiplayer just seem way too chaotic for me. I bet if you had a look at any multiplayer match from a birds eye view, you will just see headless chickens in exo suits that just jump quickly around the map like crickets on steroids. There is a zombie mode which you have to pay for unfortunately with the havoc DLC , which is sad. But with the exo zombies, I had a fantastic time; boosting around in my exo suit; shooting crowds and crowds of zombies in exo suits. You will have a great time with that, especially on multiplayer, even though when you start playing you may think that its a little too basic and new, you Will get used to it and have a great time. The answer is yes, but this certainly wasn't the best. Let's start off with the campaign since it is the only thing I really enjoyed. Actually it is probably one of the best of the series. Kevin Spacey plays his role very well(as always) as well as the other voice actors. There were actually characters that I gave a damn about this time around instead of just random red shirts. The story is compelling and levels are well-designed. A very satisfactory campaign overall.
Now for the part I didn't enjoy all that much, multiplayer. I didn't care for the changes they made with the multiplayer and does little to actually change the gameplay as a whole. The booster packs and mech suits were just a copy cat of Halo. Call of Duty has had a problem as of late with copying other game mechanics, but this was just too obvious. Activision needs a major transformation of this series' multiplayer.
Overall, I would call this game good, but only due to its stellar campaign. However, it is almost at the point where a great campaign is no longer enough for satisfaction.

Most map layouts are very circular making strategy games like S&D just rush and flank faster than the other team. Hard core mode (personal favorite from previous cods) can be extremely frustrating with every position having 4-5 possible flank and a spray from the double jumped dodging enemy killing you from behind. Playing as a team is nearly impossible with the lack of choke points as an enemy can get behind you in a dozen different ways. This is a run in gun game to the extreme if that's your thing this will be a good fit. If you are about strategy or outplaying the enemy I recommend passing this up.

Advanced warfare is easily the most innovative call of duty in years. Does that mean the franchise has finally once again achieved what call of duty 4 did so long ago? Not at all.

The game does well with incorporating a faster speed as well as more verticality with exo-suits, but it's the guns, equipment, and perks which are heavily disappointing for the multiplayer aspect of the game.

The game does well with incorporating a faster speed as well as more verticality with exo-suits, but it's the guns, equipment, and perks which are heavily disappointing for the multiplayer aspect of the game. Most all weapons are incredibly weak, leaving almost no diversity in the guns players actually use. Exo abilities are a joke and most choose to go without. Perk slots are taken up by perks 100% necessary such as one which makes you invisible on the mini map while using your exo suit. However; gameplay is satisfying. Kill streaks are effective. Maps are mediocre, which is 10 times better than maps in the franchise's previous installment.

While there is most definitely room to improve, this is the first time in years that I've kept a call of duty game for more than a couple of months and actually enjoyed it. It keeps me coming back to play, and for that I am thankful.

Lots of invisible walls, lack of constancy with the exo-suit abilities and what should have been a fairly enjoyable CoD campaign has turned into the usual shoot dumb enemies, complete the objective SPECIFICALLY to how the computer wants you to fulfill them... wait for AI team mates and listen to Spacey give the most cheesiest "I hate you all and I'm going to start WW3 speech" - I don't blame Spacey, he's making the best of a, quite frankly, awful plot and, at some points, cheesy writing. Oh and the campaigns only 6-8 hours, which for a £45 game, seems short - sure there's a multiplayer and an exo-yawn, sorry, survival mode but 6-8 seems a little short (but let's be thankful it's not another 4 hour campaign). After the chore of the first half, the campaign does pick up in terms of fun - especially when you get the grappling hook.

Multiplayer - I admire Sledgehammer for not doing the same old Cod again but most of their tricks haven't payed off. The exo-suit is clunky and too easy to use when you don't want it, the dash ruins any hope of precision, the spawn system is just down right awful (especially on Free for all modes), the guns are hopelessly unbalanced, the loot system is broken, most of the maps are awful and any maps that could have a glimmer of being good are held down by Sledgehammer games' ability to come with ruddy awful ideas and implement them, without actually thinking. It's the sort of multiplayer you'll spend hours raging at, due to the hundreds of flaws and you'll quickly realize they've done nothing to fix the core problems that CoD had.

Exo-Survival - Yawn, it's average at best. Now they've added an Exo-Zombie mode, which you have to pay for (£11.59), so - yeah, Co-Op has been turned into a cash grab by Activision.

A thoroughly average shooter, that does nothing spectacular.

It's really amazing value for $70.

My only real complaint is that the multiplayer gameplay is very repetitive. It's basically just a twitch shooter where you hope you can react faster than your opponent because whoever shoots first typically gets the kill. It doesn't have the variety that say Halo does with vehicles and different power weapons and actually using map control and strategy to win. It's mostly just run around like a chicken with your head cut off or stay back and camp and pick said headless chickens off as they bunny hop around in the open. Definitely fun but pretty one-dimensional gameplay. It is also incredibly frustrating when people continually manage to sneak up behind you and drop you in half a second before you can even turn around. Kinda cheap. I wish they had proper radar like there is in Halo! That said however, it is still a very fun, high-quality game and a refreshing change of pace for a new player to the series.

This is mostly about multiplayer, but here's what I have to say about the campaign: I like the overall premise; PMCs are really cool, Kevin Spacey is good, and for the first 75% of the game, the plot is actually darn good. Then Kevin Spacey DECLARES WAR ON THE ENTIRE WORLD IN FRONT OF THE UN. THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. He was a smart, meticulous, cold, calculating guy, then he just gets up in front of the whole world and says, "Come at me, bro." The ending is doodoo and the levels are fairly par for the course.
Enough of that. The Multiplayer sucks. It's just not fun. They got the scorestreaks right (BO2 style rather than Ghosts style), but that's about it. The map design is meeeeehhhh, mostly bad, some good. With the exos, it feels like they're trying too hard to be different. Half the time, it's impossible to hit a person as they're flying around the map. You will constantly get stuck on random objects that a real human being would simply be able to walk over. Oh, I can fly through the air on a jetpack, but I can't step over a 8 inch tall ledge? The weapons are the worst part. ARs aren't usable without the stock attachments (which you unlock by getting hipfire kills; if you can't tell why this is retarded, the stock helps when you ADS, not hipfire. Makes ZERO sense). Only like 3 guns are actually good, but none are memorable (there are no MW2 Famases or ACRs, no MW3 MP11s or PP90s, no BO1 Famases, Galils, AK47s, or Commandos, no BO2 Peacekeepers, AN90s or R870s. The guns just aren't fun to use. Hell, even Ghosts had the Honey Badger. The game isn't fun to play at all. The movement feels smooth and it's fun to move around so quickly, but it makes the who game a freaking chore to play. It gets less and less good every time you play it. It's not the worst game of all time, it's not a 0 like all the over-reacting mouth-breathing clods on here say it is, but it's not good. It's average, slightly below average. If I could give it 5.5/10 I would. But hey, at least it's better than Destiny.

The missions themselves are okay, with the exception of a fun stealthy mission that every Call of Duty game includes. The overall gameplay of the campaign is okay with some fun parts here and there. The multiplayer, which is the biggest reason everyone buys a Call of Duty game, is not that good. The biggest reason I don't care for it is because the new addition of jet packs ruins it. Jet packs can be plain cheap and lets the enemy just shoot straight into the air when you're shooting at him, and you're not quick enough, then he kills you. They let people escape from danger too easily. Yes, there is a playlist that disables jet packs, but all the maps were made for jet packs, so they seem hard to maneuver around. It also feels like enemies take WAY too many bullets to kill. It can be frustrating when they jet pack around and your clip runs out and they get away. Kill streaks, especially airships with guns, even take a lot to kill someone, so they're almost pointless. The new supply drop system gives you different loot through out your online experience. It's stupid because loot is basically random and you need to be completely lucky to get some of the best guns. The other mode called "Exo Survival" has you fight off waves of enemies. It's not that great, and I got bored after playing it for a little while. There are a few upsides to the game though. The graphics are pretty great and the cut scenes are phenomenal. You can customize your character with different helmets and gear to make him look totally unique. And lastly, with all honesty, if the campaign didn't have Kevin Spacey, it would've been even worse. Advanced Warfare doesn't even feel like a Call of Duty, and I could simply do without this one. Expand

Although hardly repeat the revolution seen in Modern Warfare trilogy, the game has fresh elements in sufficient quantity to give new life to a franchise that many considered decadent after weak Ghosts.

The use of a less realistic scenario allowed the Sledgehammer create a more fun and varied game, which is much closer to an adventure film with elements of science fiction than a new attempt to recreate "Black Hawk Down". With this, the game can not only explore elements fleeing from reality, as constructs a plot that runs off a bit of some clichés seen in the past.

Perhaps the greatest Advanced Warfare problem is the fact that it is a sequence of a franchise known for its very characteristic formula. Thus, it is hard not to feel that in some instances the studio had to restrict your creativity, since it was not possible to leave out certain elements already known by fans.

However, these little slips do not interfere at all the great work done by Sledgehammer. The title can be considered the true starting point of the series in the new generation of consoles and erase the bitter taste left by his predecessor. Featuring a good mix of familiar elements and new, the title proves that it will take a long time before Call of Duty is no longer a relevant name for the industry.

    HATERS GONNA HATE.
