Bleeding Edge on Xbox One is just pure fun. It’s a tight, fast thrill-ride that keeps me playing which, as someone who predominantly plays single-player, is not easy to do. While it certainly isn’t what some fans of Ninja Theory may be expecting, it is still a great first collaboration from what will likely be one of Xbox Game Studios’ finest teams.

The gameplay of Bleeding Edge in the hero shooter style but with melee combat is original, it is fun, very direct and spectacular at times, although Ninja Theory does not end up hitting the key to make it stand out from the competition. It meets its goal of bringing new experiences and variety to the catalog of exclusive Xbox Game Pass games.

Bleeding Edge is an original multiplayer brawler, with great charisma and a good team-based tactical gameplay. It lacks in content and shows several technical problems, but if Ninja Theory will keep on improving it constantly adding new content, it could become a new important competitor in the multiplayer arena.

A fun multiplayer brawler hampered by some lag issues and a lack of game types. With an update or two to iron out the kinks, this utterly charming game could go from good to great.

The potential for Bleeding Edge certainly does not seem to be lacking, and indeed the bases for something encouraging can still be seen: it remains to be seen what will be the support for the title in the medium / long term, the only factor actually able to transform what is today a promise with so much personality in a truly noteworthy exclusive.

Bleeding Edge has a great core, but it feels like there is still a lot of work to do. Games evolve constantly now, so it’s worth keeping and eye on and, if you are a Game Pass subscriber, make sure you give it a try.

Bleeding Edge puts quality over quantity. The people at Ninja Theory have brought their expertise in the hack and slash genre and have translated it into a competitive experience that is both satisfying and distinct. But the lack of content and the boring ranged characters hinders it from really standing out amongst the overcrowded genre. Maybe in a few months, it will feel feature complete. But for now, Bleeding Edge will only have you strapped to your couch for a few hours before you decide to try something else out.

A very interesting "hero slasher" that at the moment is lacking in terms of content and variety.

Even with a couple of blemishes present, I still had an absolute ball with the Bleeding Edge beta when I was able to go on the offensive. Sure, the lack of a role queue is a massive oversight, and I didn't much enjoy the ranged combat, but I'm excited to clash swords with more of the cast and uncover all their mechanical intricacies in the second beta session that begins on March 13. While objectives are straightforward, it’s teamwork that generally lets a team down. From my playthroughs, you can almost immediately identify a team that will work at a unit – or, ideally, in a handful of coordinated ones – compared to teams with individuals that will rush to an objective with a strategy in mind. Games where individuals are blindly rushing at a group of bad guys are frustrating beyond belief, and sadly, they’re happening often at this point. [Review in progress]

Weirdly though, it's not really a bad videogame. It's got several key problems, but the core has real potential... provided players don't get turned off by the balancing issues and lack of content first.

While being different enough from the titan of the genre (Overwatch) it still plays fundimentally the same. With it's own storyline and some crazy characters this game does well to stand out. Visually the game has been well designed and looks nice, interesting character designs and animations, it reminds me somewhat of Jet Set Radio Future but upgraded, this is by no means a bad thing and I am pleased with the way the game visually presents itself. Control wise I did have to do a slight remap just to slightly adjust and make the main attack button more comfortable, adjusting the attack button to RT and the dodge to X (opposite by default) I found the controls very easy and comfortable. With the ability to keymap the controls are easily customizable enough to be able to suit anyone. The gameplay of Bleeding Edge plays as you would expect, 4v4 team based battle games. These can get quite chaotic and teamwork is highly rewarded and going solo is punished harshly by being ganged up on by the enemy team. Each character has their own special abilities and can turn the tide of the battle when used correctly and at the right time. Bleeding Edge can be enjoyable however at the time of writing sadly rubber banding was an issue during matches and it can be quite jarring, however given this was release day I fully expect these to be resolved soon, doubled by the fact I personally found no way to check on Ping or select server region I was quite disappointed by that fact. Finally the omission of Ranked play at launch and promised at a later date (albeit top priority) took away some of the will to play, due to the fact that matchmaking I was unfortunate enough to a lot of people who didn't quite grasp the concept of teamwork. Overall: While this is a good game and enjoyable enough as is. Personally till some updates / patches have been added in I would hold off and stick with the likes of Overwatch / RS Siege for your team based games, at least till a few issues have been addressed. Once sorted the game could be great. However this review is on what it is not could be. Full Review »
