Mar 19, 2015Battlefield Hardline is a two-pronged success, with a killer cops-and-robbers story backed by a speedy take on competitive play.
-
Mar 16, 2015This is the 10th Battlefield game, and at this stage in the franchise’s history, it isn’t easy to come up with fresh takes. Visceral Games has done that.
-
Mar 17, 2015Battlefield is back with a game that feels like a spin-off, but that relies on the foundations of the franchise. It's fun and fresh, and its multiplayer takes a new, faster direction. It might not be an evolution, but it's a take on the series worth checking out.
-
Mar 23, 2015On the multiplayer side, Hardline provides a solid and very compelling, even if highly BF4-like, experience, with some very entertaining new modes; the single player campaign resulted in a satisfying experience too, but we would have liked proper, full-blown stealth gameplay, rather than the unconvincing mix Visceral presented us.
-
Mar 23, 2015If you’re looking for a fun, solid-though-not-brilliant cop drama to play through that then lets you jump into multiplayer and be the cop or the robber, this is the game for you.
-
Mar 20, 2015A nice try by Visceral Games, despite the fact that they don't succeed in bringing Battlefield its old glory. At least it offers the best online experience possible, solving all Battlefield 4 issues.
-
Mar 19, 2015Battlefield: Hardline may seem like simply an expansion to the fourth entry in the game, but after diving in I enjoy it a lot more than the previous effort. The campaign is a breath of fresh air, and the multiplayer adds enough to make it stand out.
-
Mar 18, 2015The most astonishing thing about Hardline’s multiplayer is how successful it is in trying to please everyone.
-
Mar 16, 2015A mighty fine bite-size Battlefield experience that takes a franchise synonymous with being a military shooter and establishes it in new territory. Battlefield Hardline is not as grand or epic as you’d perhaps expect a core Battlefield title to be, but it’s certainly a damn fine alternative.
-
Apr 8, 2015On the one hand, if you look for a shooter to play in solitary, you can consider this production completely inadequate. On the opposite side, however, we have a multiplayer that works at times, and in its imperfections and its chaos still managed to entertain.
-
Apr 8, 2015Visceral's first attempt at a Battlefield game isn't a bad one, but there's little here to be excited about beyond an actual functioning online component.
-
Apr 6, 2015In areas where Battlefield has always excelled and pushed forward, Hardline presents experiments, rather than refinements or fixes. The result is multiplayer that feels very familiar, very quickly. But its campaign, while feeling not completely sure about what it wants to be, is more interesting and certainly all-around better than the last few years' worth of Battlefield games.
-
Mar 30, 2015A lot more than a Battlefield 4 reskin with balaclavas and batons, but not quite the true-blue breakout hit it could have been.
-
Mar 25, 2015Unless you have friends to play online with right away, wait for a price drop before pinning on your police badge or slipping into a ski mask. Hardline is good but it's not exactly a necessity.
-
Mar 18, 2015Hardline is a successful spin out from the expected Battlefield experience, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that Visceral could have done more with a better engine and the freedom of a new IP.
-
Mar 16, 2015Battlefield Hardline manages to mix the teamplay of former episodes to the fast-paced rhythm of a Call of Duty. And kudos to Visceral Games in succeeding to deliver an effective solo campaign. Only regret, the game is not as nice-looking as its predecessors.
-
Mar 16, 2015The simplicity of the campaign's stealth gameplay and the enemies' readiness to submit at the sound of "Freeze!" is comical, though the silliness was not likely Visceral's intention.
-
Mar 16, 2015Battlefield: Hardline is a lateral move for the series. Even with a more ambitious single player offering, multiplayer continues to steal the show, offering best in-class gameplay when it works.
-
Mar 24, 2015Devoid of any real personality, Battlefield: Hardline's single-player campaign is cheesier than an 80's pick-up line. It is however saved by a superb multiplayer that is both solid and entertaining.
-
Mar 19, 2015Battlefield Hardline's new gameplay mechanics don't work all the time. This game developed by Visceral Games is generic and pretty forgettable, but if you enjoy competitive multiplayer, you should try it.
-
Mar 20, 2015Battlefield Hardline is the worst Battlefield game to date. Its story is very predictable and lacks excitement. Arresting criminals gets boring and Visceral made some mistakes in the visuals and multiplayer as well.
-
Apr 15, 2015So there we have it, a Battlefield game with weak single player and solid if underwhelming multiplayer - absolutely no one saw this coming.
-
Mar 23, 2015You have to commend Visceral Games for trying something new. Sadly, though, Battlefield Hardline ends up being a lackluster mix of concepts, none of which actually shines with a light of its own. For every single-player or multiplayer idea in Battlefield Hardline, there's a better equivalent somewhere else, including Battlefield 4.
-
Mar 20, 2015The end result is a Battlefield game that's solid, but not spectacular. Visceral takes the series narrative where its never been before, builds a solid story, and adds little pieces that have potential.
-
Mar 17, 2015Given the embarrassingly long time spent patching and getting Battlefield 4 up to snuff, maybe a "stable" Battlefield will be enough for some players.
-
Mar 17, 2015In the end, Battlefield: Hardline is its own worst enemy. There are some great ideas here, but they aren't fully realized, and the game suffers for it. It's not a bad game, but it's also not an exceptional game.
-
Mar 16, 2015Battlefield Hardline feels like a valiant attempt from Visceral and EA, but the gritty crime drama that they're aiming for comes out as an underwhelming effort. Multiplayer offers some fun moments, but it doesn't do enough with the concept to feel like a major leap in the world of first-person shooters. Meanwhile, the campaign feels bogged down under the weight of silly cliches and doesn't offer enough of a tactical, strategic cop experience.
