On a very general basis this game incorporates some of the most basic components of the other battlefields but in terms of the actual gameplay it's completely different. The game itself feels more like a hybrid between an upgraded Counter-Strike and one of the better Call of Duty's.

The map size's are rather small making the gameplay feel a little bit claustrophobic at times. However, the size favours fast-paced killing that both CoD and CS players will enjoy. Regardless of small maps vehicle choice is still present although limited in quantity and quality. The majority of vehicles feel pointless accessories that make you an easy target and don't really add much to the game. Weapon choice is definitely scarce and doesn't match at all the diversity found in the previous versions.

From the graphical point of view this game is a real bummer. From the quality of the maps to the development of the gameplay it feels like EA once again went lazy. It is understandable that developing a game is not exactly easy and cheap but when you look at the companies annual income seeing an improvement is more of a demand than an expectation.

One of the more positive notes for this game is the Single player campaign. The vintage cop plot was a smart move from the developers as its concept gave us gamers some fresh air to breathe over other overly simplistic and boring game stories that we get to see each year.

The game is definitely fun to play but will most likely not have the same lasting appeal as the other Battlefields. Charging this game full price is a little bit ridiculous mainly because it really doesn't play like a next-gen game. Personally, I would have preferred EA to distribute this game as a DLC for BF4 with a significantly lower price tag. However, lets not forget that this is EA, the usual Money over Customers ideology.

I was skeptical but, being the Battlefield loyalist that I am, decided to give Hardline a shot. As expected and to my total, but unsurprising, disappointment, Battlefield Hardline is garbage - corny, uncreative, and an insult to the BF community.

Forget intelligent teamwork, vehicle warfare, and overall strategic warfare. Those wanting the battlefield experience, stick with BF3 and 4, or any other priors of the series. Those wanting to play a new Call of Duty and mindlessly run and gun, you might like Hardline.

The biggest issue I have is with the vehicles Hardline offers. To me, what set battlefield apart was the MASSIVE maps and the vehicle warfare. No more Jets, useful choppers, tanks or other armored vehicles. The choppers are slow, unrealistic, and pretty much useless other than for being a spawn beacon. The vehicle physics as a whole are laughable and beyond unrealistic - they seem to have no "weight" or mass with unrealistic acceleration and handling. They remind me of the p*ss poor physics you shortly experience in the Call of Duty games - who don't give a flip about vehicles in the first place.

The game should be titled "Call of Duty: Counter-Strike SP (sub-par)" - this is what it was developed (copied) and sold as.

    -------------(Further soapbox ranting below):-------------------
According to all of the pre-launch marketing/advertising bs, the idea was to take a new and creative direction with the Battlefield series while maintaining the series' "core" or "essence". Well, if that truly was the goal then you, EA, failed miserably. My guess is that EA only wanted or cared about the cheap shortcut to "success". To copy an already successful model(activision), target and cater to the mainstream (COD) audience, and just make sure there are no bugs. It's all about the numbers, get as many pre-orders as you can and tap into the COD audience as much as possible.

Battlefield to me has never really been for the majority as it is accurate, realistic, and difficult to many. I do not deny that many players probably like or even love this game because they are COD fanboys. But if you actually are a Battlefield fan and player, you do not.

The only reason I'm giving this a 3 rating is because I have not seen any major bugs or glitches.... so it's good in that it works - congrats.

My personal favorite being hotwire, which is basically conquest but the points are vehicles you need to capture and drive. To answer the question, Yes... it is different than standard battlefield, it has more of an arcadey feel to it. But its not a bad thing. While I have noticed a few bugs on launch, audio and graphical glitches, the game is very stable and an absolute blast. I highly recommend it. Expand

    Review of multiplayer:

I was on the fence about BF:Hardline due to the mixed reviews, but went for it after reading a few that said it was a more infantry focused Battlefield, and small infantry only maps are pretty much all I play in Battlefield 4, my favorite map being Operation Locker. I was hoping hardline would have more maps like that, but unfortunately in Hardline even the smaller ones seem way too chaotic. More so even than COD:A!

There is very little tactical gameplay in Hardline, and I'm not even talking about utilizing specialties and teamwork; I mean just navigating the map - everyone's kind of everywhere - utilizing the environment is often meaningless because you have no sense of where the enemy might be coming from for more than a few moments. I find myself making a lot of lucky kills by spawning literally right behind enemies, and getting frustrated when the same happens to me.

I would be shocked if the death toll in this game weren't way higher than average shooters, and hey, that's okay, I'm not looking for deep strategy, but sadly, this feels even more shallow than COD:AW because ultimately the chaos feels... random. Random deaths, random kills. And the wait time to re-spawn is frustratingly long for this kind of game.

It's not awful; as many others have said it feels kind of like an expansion pack (albeit a major one) for BF4, but I think Operation Locker and every map in COD:AW does this kind of gameplay better. I actually think PayDay 2 also does it better, even though the enemies are always AI. At least the scale and scope of the battles in PD2 kind of work to support the cops & robbers theme. Put it this way - if you're looking for multiplayer shooter version of Heat, Payday does it better, even with it's AI cops. And for full on multiplayer, Operation Locker in Battlefield 4 doesn't have the theme, but feels way more immersive and tactical.

Okay, so those are my criticisms: onto the good stuff:

I don't get people's gripes with the graphics - they seem to be the same quality as BF4. Maybe it's because I had read about Hardline and knew it would use the same engine, so I wasn't expecting any better, but it certainly doesn't seem worse. I think the graphics are good, definitely stomps anything on last gen.

The stuff the cops and robbers shout out is more fun than BF4, especially the robbers (obviously.) In fact, it's the verbal cues more than anything that make you feel like it's a crime thing rather than a war thing. And the criminals are bad-asses, so playing as one is pretty cool.

The hit detection shows you which body part was struck when you died. For all I know, it just picks a random body part because... how would you know? One second you're standing there, next you're dead.. which brings me back to my original criticism, most of the time you never see it coming. Still, I'm giving the game the benefit of the doubt and saying the hit detection is better.

The maps that have you stealing money from a vault have a cool mechanism; basically, in the middle of a battle you can stuff money in your pockets, but it leaves you totally vulnerable. The longer you stand there at the vault, the more money you get, but the bigger risk you take. It's can be cool and thrilling, but again, my criticism from earlier still dampens the coolness factor since it basically just seems like random chance whether you'll survive at any point.

It's pretty disappointing that all the negative reviews I'd been reading actually led me to think this game might be just what I was looking for - I guess you could say my grail game would be a half-step up in tactical gameplay than COD, but Hardline feels, oddly enough, even more chaotic, and not in a good way. Again, it's not awful, but unless they come out with better balanced maps in the future I probably won't stick with it for long.

I have no thoughts on single player, since I have no interest in it.

Battlefield Hardline proves that replacing the franchise landmarks (large maps, wide array of vehicles and weapons) for a narrow, twitch-gameplay, cops and robbers experience is as dumb as it sounds. Luckily the wait for Star Wars Battlefront shouldn't be long now and this miscarriage of the EA-Money Machine can hopefully soon be forgotten.

Battlefield 4 despite its rough start, was a good game in the end, This takes BF4, adds an terrible user interface, awful looking and handling vehicles, removes most of the weapons, and unbalances the classes. Then tries to sell it as a new and exciting game, Good idea, very poorly executed. It is more like a 3rd party mod than a new game!

The multiplayer is like a double-edged sword. On one side you got all the refreshing approach by having new game modes, features, and gadgets. On the other hand, you got limited weapons that takes way too long to earn, cops/crooks restricted weapons, OP armored vehicles, and terrible balancing issue on Hardcore mode. The multiplayer is pretty damn fun. Though Hotwire can get boring if you are simply driving in circles, trying to destroy the enemy vehicles or keeping your teams car alive, makes it a decent new game type. I nearly squealed with glee the first time I planted 2 Lazer Tripmines under a car, and waited for a poor enemy player to hop in, only to explode a split second after hitting the gas.

Rescue is a decent attempt to capture the CS:GO community but I'm not sure if the BF community can grasp it. The old faithful Conquest is decent and the "levolution" is okay. It seems that some of the maps could use a bit more love but overall, they each give something the others don't.

The Weapons are pretty decent. I haven't really gone up against any weapons that have seemed just stupidly OP. There are some that are overall stronger than others but each seems to at least fill its own niche. The Guns don't sound like Pop-Rocks.

Been playing for 15+ hours and I am completely bored. It really kicked as for the first 10 hours though, but holy **** the mp maps have no depth and are simply ugly and have no heart behind them. In fact this whole game feels so empty in that regard. Recycled regurgitated poor quality waste of time.

Honestly, I'd say Battlefield 3 still is the best game of the series.

The game modes are actually more entertaining than in battlefield 4. I think the main multiplayer mode called "Hotwire" still needs to be tweaked though. It's the only game mode that, while fun at first, gets very repetitive. Visceral has done a great job at maps and i hope they continue to make good DLC maps as well. The thing about BF4 is i thought all the DLC maps except a couple were garbage. Let's just hope hardline doesn't follow in that same path. Overall, I would say this game is worth your $60 but I would be hesitant to buy premium yet. Visceral will have to prove to me that they know how to do DLC right. They have already proved themselves on how to make a very fun FPS game that is way better than any call of duty in the past 5 years (except black ops 1+2) Expand

OK, so there is no point at all in playing the campaign, it's just not that interesting and plays almost like an on-rails shooter.

Truthfully I have been having fun playing this game, this game plays like a variant of counter-strike where they took all of the good from that game and combined it with larger-less predictable maps with no choke points, iron-sights and re-spawning.
I gave it a seven because I don't really buy these games for the campaign anymore and I feel that the multiplayer merits a seven. Also, I would up the score if the DLC includes a number of new guns and maps, a few more game modes, and they made the game less twitchy. Guns needs to recoil and wander more, hip firing should not be an effective means to kill but rather an effective means to suppress.

This game is fun. It's a new twist on a tired franchise and the Hotwire mode is a great hybrid of capture the flag and king of the hill. I'm sick of people thinking a game is mediocre and giving it a 0. Hardline is a solid 8. It has a decent campaign storyline and high replay value online.

Also Special targets to arrest in missions and the freedom to export the environment with grappling hooks and zip-lines witch can completely change your approach to battle. The ability to take it slow and arrest every target as you sneak around is very fun but on the later levels I found I still enjoyed the heavy weapons and their customization. But as enjoyable/Corny as the story was it's not why most people play Battlefield, It's for the multiplayer.
Multiplayer is even more fast paced compared to BF4, Slightly smaller maps and guns suited for more city combat make it a bit quicker to die but puts you closer to the action. In the new game modes "Hotwire" and "Blood Money" I find the most excitement with Hotwire's car chases and vehicle mayhem and Blood Money's constant back and forth struggle trying to steal the other teams money.
If you liked BF4/3 for it's vehicle based combat you maybe disappointed with Hardline. The "Cops Vs Robbers" Setup makes it hard to justify tanks and jets for battle. But in the classic "Conquest Large" and other game modes you can still find helicopters and armored trucks to cause destruction.
All in all if your a fan of the combat in the Battlefield series and BF4 is getting a bit old for you, Hardline maybe a good alternative. Grated it's not perfect but still enjoyable.

So, if you are expecting Hardline to be like 4, it is not. That being said, it really does seem like a great branch out on a fantastic franchise. One thing that I really truly like, and think is marvelous is the single player, not only in gameplay, which is fantastic but the experience of playing it, like a TV show, is really cool.

The game is not meant to be realistic but aim more towards less serious with sarcastic humor cop and robber game. The core mechanics and the gameplay is a lot different than other battle field games. They just share a same engine and look almost the same as battlefield 4. I think EA business practice may alienate many of battlefield fanbase who paid for $60 BF4 premium, but Battlefield Hardline by itself is not a bad or gutted out game.

    The Good:
Battlefield: Hardline came out one year after battlefield 4, but unlike call of duty, hardline feels like a fresh experience. Hardline is probably one of the better newly release console FPS at the moment for number of reasons.
1 - Dedicated Server and 66 players. Every competitive FPS players know that dedicate servers are a must for a smooth shooting experience. I honestly couldn't stand P2P when people warping around in COD or Destiny crucible.
2 - No more grenade spammer / choke point stalemate. Everytime I play battlefield, it is often comes down to a choke point of stalemate and people just spam rockets, grenade, tank fire, LMG across one another. This is no longer the case in hardline as the objective moves around to a random location in hiest, forcing player out of comfort zone. There are also no more LMG. Grenades are also big committment as it is very slow to throw and you only get one per life. There's also no tank in this game.
3 - Tactical and new gameplay in most mode (except TDM, which reminds me of CQB DLC in BF3). 32 vs 32 or 5v5, you will need a teamwork to win in this game. There's no one of those lonewolf pilot who takes down an entire army. The gunplay has pretty low TTK, but the game aren't very accurate past mid range. Winning gunfight is not always about pulling the trigger first, as the gun are not accurate at all if you're moving. You usually win gunfight if you put yourself in a more advantage situation or tack team up and attack from multiple angle concurrently. The auto-healing and refilling are a nice change as you don't have to focus on dropping ammo/health box as much as watching the corners and your team back while unlocking a vault.
3 - Good unlock system: This game unlock guns extremely fast. Instead of grinding for 100,000 XP for this one gun, the unlock system revolves around having enough cash to buy the particular gun you want from any classes. After 15 matches of hotwire, I've already unlocked all the weapons I wanted for operator class, and now I do not have to feel like being outgunned by level 50 with all gear unlocked!
4 - 60 FPS, fast loadtime, fast unlock: The game load very fast, so you'll be spending most of your time playing the game (unless you die so oftem you mostly in loadout screen XD ). The 60 FPS is also very nice.
5 - Bug less: This is not much of a pro, but consider the past BF experience has always been bug-fested. This one launches surprisingly smooth. After 40 hours of gameplay, I've yet to experience an issue.

    Bad & Cons:
1 - It's just not worth $60 + Premium. This game shares too much similarity in core mechanics and graphics as battlefield 4. Even with campaign and mutliplayer together, I just don't feel like it worth $60 (comparing to GTA V, Skyrim, and other AAA title). It probably has as much content as COD, which I personally think an overpriced game.
2- Team Deathmatch is horrible. The maps are just too small for 32vs32 players in TDM. There are far too many instances I just got spawn into a middle of a group of enemies and got instant killed.
3 - Graphics could use an update. Although it is running at 60 FPS, the graphics are not next-gen at all. It looks too similar to BF4 with less destructible environment (due to lack of explosive options probably)
4 - Lack of gun variety. There are usually 3-5 guns per each class per each team. Although each gun has their own unique stats, I just feel like there are too few options for us to choose from.

So for those who never owned BF4, but enjoyed the call of duty series but want some more tactical gameplay with dedicated server support, then Hardline is a good buy. But for those who look for another authentic battlefield experience with lots explosive actions and destructible environment, you won't find it here.

This game is really amazing, once you adjust to the differences between this and battlefield 4.

Multiplayer is very, very fun. There are, of course, some things which are not balanced quite right yet, but even so, it plays really, really, well. There is no one super overpowered gun - some really do out perform the other guns in its class in a certain area though, such as the K10 smg

There is no one super overpowered gun - some really do out perform the other guns in its class in a certain area though, such as the K10 smg having an obscene rate of fire, really short time to kill, but needing nine shots to kill and being really inaccurate. Vehicular gameplay is very appealling, and fun - nothing like flying around in hotwire hanging out of the back of a van with an smg.

The gamemodes are new (to an extent) and innovative. With blood money, hotwire and heist all bringing a breathe of fresh air to the series, you really do have many hours hours of gameplay available. There are also two competitive 5v5 game modes, if that is what you like. Conquest was brought back; as fun as ever. Team Deathmatch was brought back, and this mode does have a pretty bad spawning system. You spawn in the middle of enemies and they spawn in the middle of you.

There are some small flaws in it. Yet, it is just so insanely fun I gave it what I feel is a well-deserved ten.

In fact the main reason I bought my xbox one was to play 64 player Battlefield! I rate it a solid 8 out of 10 for its sheer replay value.

However Battlefield Hardline is absolutely abysmal. Lets start with the campaign. I found it to be boring as hell and quit after an hour.

Now the main part... the multiplayer..where do I start? They've added a few new modes which were fun for like a week playing with friends, but now can't be bothered driving a car round and round to earn money. Blood Money I found to be the best of these, it's tactical and fun and the only reason I didn't give this a ZERO. But one good mode just doesn't cut it.

Gameplay is fast paced but just chaos. It literally feels like a bunch of kids running around shooting each other. I never once felt like a cop or a robber. No immersion whatsoever. Spawns are a complete joke. You can literally hang around on the edges of the map and people will materialize in front of you.

There are hardly any guns and a lot of them are rubbish, especially the battle rifles. There is also the usual problem of your hits not registering and getting killed behind cover but I'm used to this now lol.

Graphics.....truly God Awful. BF4 looks like twice as good. Why? What happened? Just hazy, muddy textures it looks like a PS2 game for godsake.

Sound...awful. Crap menu music, and crappy in car radio music. Guns sound good enough, however every time I played I was plagued with some sound glitch where my sound would cut out every few seconds. This alone made it unplayable for me after a while.

So to finish, Blood money was the only half decent thing on here which is why I have given it a 2 rather than a zero. I have just traded this back towards another game. It wasn't a complete disaster as I got a decent trade in value.

My advice is don't bother buying this steaming turd, buy BF4 instead, it is cheaper and is currently running well after they finally fixed it. Don't give in to peer pressure like I did and wasted money just so I could play with my friends.

The color palette is similar to GTA V but infuses tight FPS mechanics along with a frame rate of 60fps which is a noticeable upgrade. It makes for quick online gameplay and a satisfying single player campaign

Online: EA did a wonderful job marketing the online play with awesome shootouts, explosions, and unique experiences never seen in games before. Even though all these are possible, its rare any of it happens online. I've put 20 hours of online play in, and have never been side by side with an enemy vehicle in an epic shootout with 6 players. Typically what happens online is a chase will occur, the opponent will crash, you will zoom past them while shooting, the driver of your vehicle will stop and turn around, and the opponents have gotten out of their vehicle and are hiding in a building. That said, online play is still great and I'm not done playing. Combining the vehicles and destructible environments make for an endless amount of variables and each session feels different.

I prefer the gameplay over Call of Duty, but the progression system is slightly frustrating. There are two build outs for the players profile, cops and criminals, then the class loadouts creating a total of 8 different profile builds. Cash acquired during gameplay goes to one central player account, so you have to decide which side you'd like to build. Criminals and Police have access to different weapons, so buying a shotgun may not apply to your police build. Acquiring cash is not easy and you must perform well to make any substantial money, so it can be annoying when you enter a session as the police but most of your weapons were purchased on the criminal side. You essentially have to do everything twice. This gets deeper when you purchase items that apply to classes of that side. A scope for the assault class of your criminal build will make a dent in your pocket and will only apply to a class you may use 20% of the time. I would much prefer to have one repository of weapons that are class specific, so I can clearly invest in something and not feel so constrained. Thats what real life is for.

The new online game modes are a fresh twist on the series. Dealing mainly with one team trying to steal loot from a location, and the police trying to prevent it. Sometimes this is one location, the loot is actually in vehicles resulting in chases, or can be in multiple locations. At first they are refreshing and new, but I find myself playing classic conquest more than anything else. It enables you to play battlefield for what it is designed for, vehicular mayhem and everything that comes with it. Flying a helicopter, parachuting out of it onto a vantage point, and setting up for sniping is incredibly fun. As the player you feel that you have found something unique and that is what makes this game great. Maps are generally smaller and more urban than previous games, so you get a better sense of where players are and the flow of action, similar to the Call of Duty series.

Single Player: HIGH PRODUCTION VALUE. Since the protagonist is a police officer, you are encouraged not to shoot all your enemies in sight. You can if you'd like, but the game becomes much harder and EXP is not gained by killing enemies. Instead you must flash your badge and arrest them or tase them. Half points given to tased enemies, but its actually more effective than shooting with a silenced pistol. Flashing the badge in front of three men equipped with body armor, shotguns, bad attitudes, and then arresting all three does not seem like a likely scenario. Especially after you just snuck into a drug compound. These are supposed to be dangerous people. That part seemed off and its a core mechanic of the campaign. It doesn't take away that its fun though, if you are spotted from a distance doing this, you will be shot.

However the acting, cinematics, and level design is great. You participate in high speed chases, overwhelming shootouts, and environmental hazards that are done very well. The campaign plays like an episodic series so when an episode is complete, its followed by "Next time on Hardline" if you decide to take a break. It shows the highlights of that next episode and get you excited to play. I was surprised how good the single player story was. I would not prefer it over Destiny or Halo, but they did a great job introducing a new character, the supporting players, and progressing the story in a believable way. During the cinematics the expressions of all the characters are perfectly on point and each character's personality is clearly defined by facial expressions alone. The writers and animators at Visceral did a great job and I'm looking forward to their next project. This is one of the first stories in gaming that did not feel like there were cheesy moments.

Really like this game. Took me a bit to earn up. But I've put a lot of hours into it just because it has the most realistic gun play out of any of the other xb1 titles that I have played. It's like battlefield with smaller maps which get the action going well. It's free in the vault for EA access members as well so you can't go wrong.

Hardline improves the campaign weak-link that has been a part of the more traditional Battlefield titles as of late. The only major problem here is that Hardline never really stretches the franchise in new directions. It feels like Visceral used the same formula as Halo and placed its gametypes all on the same maps without any real augmentation that could keep things fresh. I still haven't done everything possible on Hardline, and while it is a good game at its core it will struggle to recapture the scope and excellence of the past couple Battlefield titles. It's also hard to focus on Hardline when DICE and EA are nearing the release of Star Wars: Battlefront, which is panning out to be Battlefield with a heavy creative hand, and that makes Hardline sound less appealing. Dust Bowl, the beta map, is still my favourite Conquest map. It simply never grows old. Sure, Hardline seems basic ... but that is what a really good shooter should offer. The BASICS must be good. And this is where Hardline nails it. Just give me a gun & ammo, and I will gladly join with 31 teammates to battle it out with 32 other guys/girls on the other side.

In short: Solid, basic, smooth, 64 person multiplayer gunplay fun

That being said, the game is inferior to past entries which were developed by DICE, the series' creator. Both the single-player and multiplayer modes are lacking in innovation and doesn't evolve the franchise in any major way. The game's intentionally cheesy campaign takes on the form of a television cop show. It is divided into ten chapters, all presented as an episode complete with recaps and previews. Although set in the present day, "Hardline" is an homage to 80's TV cop shows such as "Miami Vice". The gameplay, which borrows a little from "Far Cry 3", is more stealth-based than previous entries. You'll spend plenty of time luring crooks with bullet casings so you can arrest them. However, there are plenty of gunfights and "Call of Duty"-like stunts. Online, the game's pace has been increased with smaller maps and less vehicles. The "cops-and-robbers" matches Heist, Blood Money and Hotwire are faster-paced variants on previous online modes; they offer an almost arcade-style feel. Additionally, the new tools such as grappling hooks, ziplines and tazers keep the experience fresh. Cops and crooks are assigned their own military-grade weapons and gadgets. "Hardline" is ultimately a fun game to play online, but fans of the series will probably be disappointed with the lack of large scale battles. After "Battlefield 4", everything seems a little too streamlined. 7.5 out of 10. Expand

For one, the Single Player was kinda ‘meh.’ It has some twists and plots that were kinda known during some points of the cut-scenes and you could already predict what could happen next. The single player experience was more on the lines of ‘Battlefield: Bad Company’ style. The acting/cast was decent and it even had some humor parts. At the end of the single player campaign, it leads you with a plot twist, which they will probably pick the story back up in Battlefield: Hardline 2. The campaign achievements are somewhat easy to get, you can get one for every mission/episode you complete (there are 10 episodes/missions). The best part about this game is that you can either run and gun throughout the game or you can stealth this whole game and arrest everyone you see (I tried to do this) and feel accomplished. The single player could have been longer and it could have even setup a better way to start Battlefield: Hardline 2 (if they are even making it in the future).
Multiplayer in this game like with other Battlefield games, the servers are stable… More stable than other DICE/EA games to be completely honest. The game modes normally fit in within the whole ‘Robber Vs. Cop’ theme, you have Blood Money, Heist, Bounty Hunter, Rescue, Crosshair, Hotwire and a few other Battlefield game modes. Basically the same game modes you see in other Battlefield games and a few new ones here and there. The maps are pretty large, destructible, and diverse ranging from the Everglades in Florida (w/ air boats) to the streets of downtown LA (w/ building to building action).
To me the game is worth the $22 dollars (w/ Premium), but it was not worth $60 for those who purchased it for that amount. You are basically buying a reskinned Battlefield 4 game, but with a ‘Robber Vs. Cop’ theme which they could easily introduced it into Battlefield 4 as new DLC or a standalone game that works with Battlefield 4 in the background for about $30 or so dollars.

People have been bad mouthing the game as a simple re-skin of Battlefield 4 with less mechanized combat and a dumbed down combat system. This is totally inaccurate. The campaign mode alone sets this game apart from any other Battlefield Title and in fact any other First Person Shooter. You can call the campaign boring, predictable, and simple but the fact is that the campaign is a huge departure from what the series usually focuses on and that innovation alone should set this title apart. No Call of Duty Game has ever had the guts to break with the standard "shoot everything til its dead" formula of the FPS and Battlefield actually did so with this game. If you didn't like the campaign then fine, but at least it was a departure and a welcome one at that from the normal FPS formula.
Now for the multiplayer. Calling it a re-skin is ludicrous. It has similar game modes and it is versus combat using guns, yes, but it adds new dynamics such as non-lethal takedowns followed by interrogations, vehicle based control points in Hotwire, and tactical objective based modes like Crosshair and Rescue. These new modes set the game apart and even if they do not actually follow a "cops and robbers" theme, they do at least try to incorporate that aspect into the reasoning. People complaining about things like: "Cops don't use Stinger missiles and RPGs or have access to various SMGs and Assault rifles that are in the game" are being asinine. If the game were that rigid in its design it would be no fun. Too many people went into this game expecting a lot more than they had any reason to. Yes it would be nice if the environments were more destruct-able or if there were a larger variety of weapons with actual distinct differences in their handling, but those are aspects of BF4, play that game if that's what you want. This game is more of a ground based infantry focused shooter with varied tactical modes and a less "hardcore cometitive" environment.

It was highly anticipated due to it's new theme of Cops and Robbers type game. Unfortunately, it did not deliver. The campaign is...sub-par, as it is very predictable, unoriginal, and monotonous. Early on it introduces the "enhanced" stealth system designed to give players a quieter approach to their objective as opposed to the standard guns blazing style that FPS gamers know too well. There are many problems with the stealth mechanics. When you walk up to an enemy, you can tell them to "freeze" or "hands up". They then put down their weapons obviously. The problem with this is you can do this simultaneously with three criminals and the same time! Not only that, they are well-armed and have assault rifles, shotguns, etc versus your little pistol! After you take down all of them one at a time, pulling them to the ground and handcuffing them, not one of them stops to think" Hey, I should call out to my friends to let them know someone's here!" Not a single one. Your A.I. partners are completely useless as well. They just run around pretending they're fighting, shooting Nerf darts at the enemy, because it takes around 30 or so shots from them to kill one person! I will say though, the voice acting for the characters is pretty good. But it doesn't make up for a poorly written story among other things.

Moving on to the multiplayer, it isn't much better. I've tried every gamemode and they are fun to a degree, but they can really start to get annoying. Team deathmatch for example: It can be really fun SOMETIMES, mostly, it's just a spawn-kill fest, where you often end up looking at a respawn screen rather than actually playing. The spawning is absolutely atrocious, even worse than BF4. I find myself spawning in line of sight of an enemy or three feet away from one. There simply isn't an excuse for that! It's lazy! The newer gamemodes are very fun to play though. My favorite has to be bloodmoney. The intense fighting over the money pile is always awesome, and it encourages teamwork because you have to have your buddies covering you while you grab the loot. Hotwire is really good too! It provides an interesting twist on Conquest making the cars the objectives rather than flags being placed around the map. You find yourself in crazy car chases shooting each other as you fly down the road at high speeds. I do have some complaints about Hotwire. There is a vehicle upgrade that every player can purchase at a low price, which gives the player an RPG in their trunk when they spawn in a vehicle. This needs to go. It gets very irritating in Hotwire, when you're driving down the road in a car chase, having fun, shooting at each other, then suddenly BOOM. You were killed by an RPG. It's scary how much I see this occurring, at least twice a game! Soon most players will have this upgrade and at that point, why not just give the RPG to them on foot? It makes no difference than say playing the engineer from BF4 at that point. Just RPG's running rampant, blowing up every car they see, breaking the gamemode. I suggest refunding those who bought this upgrade and dropping it. It's much more balanced leaving RPG's and stingers as battle pickups and not letting people spawn with them. Now, heists. It's a cool idea and certainly fits in with the genre, but it has A LOT of problems. For starters, there's way too many people in a server. With an entire army of cops and robbers, it doesn't feel like you're in a robbery. I think it would be more interesting to see an 8 v 8 scenario, where teamwork is a must have. It will feel more legit too. It's sad that "Bank Job", the map designed for Heist, is completely broken in for it. The loot drop-off points are horribly biased towards the cops! Escape B for example, It's right next to the cops spawn! WTF Visceral!?! It almost always ends in a bloody stalemate until the criminals run out of tickets. Unfortunately, Conquest is not out of the line of fire. It feels bland, now that tanks, helicopters, and other military vehicles aren't in the game. The lack of destruction in most of the maps is also kind of stupid. I can be driving 80 mph on Everglades be stopped in my tracks because of a fricking bush! I find it odd that Visceral would eliminate both of the major selling points of Battlefield. The other two gamemodes Rescue and Crosshair are not very fun at all. In Rescue, you must save one of two hostages or eliminate the enemy team, or if you're defending, defend the hostages or kill the enemy team. In Crosshair, one team must deliver their teammate to an escape point while the other team tries to stop them. The VIP can get in the escape point in 3-5 seconds, giving the enemy team almost no time to react. Both go way too quick, around 30 seconds to 90. If you want to play these gamemodes, Counter Strike does it better. All in All, it deserves a 5/10.

It's not trying to be Battlefield 4, it's not even trying to compete with Battlefield 4, what it's trying to do is compete with Advanced Warfare.

And it succeeds, I've had a ridiculous amount of fun playing this, way more than COD. It's not without flaws, Heist and Blood Money are the only real modes worth playing imo. Weapon license is way too high (only have left the kill requirement after 320 hours of BF4 on my best gun). Can't pause while in killcam. Can't change team/squad settings in pause menu unless I spawn into game, or use the **** spawn screen menu. Visual recoil is BACK AGAIN after it was fixed in BF4. Sound cuts out frequently on everything from footsteps to helicopters. Level of weapon customisation is much lower than BF4 (can't chose specific silencers, lack of any good red dot sights and more). Explosive spam on Hotwire game mode making it impossible to play.

Overall, it feels like Visceral just set things to what they assume might work and never bothered to test it or compare it against any data. There is no way ANY normal player is going to be able to get the 48,750 kills (1250 for each weapon) required for just some of the assignments. There are still plenty more assignments too, one even requiring that you earn 30,000 points in one single match, despite matches only lasting about 10 minutes because they set the Conquest tickets to like 300/400 instead of 800. Not to mention, 64 player TDM on tiny maps with completely broken spawns (at least they said they might fix those spawns).

The good. The campaign is genuinely pretty good, for a BF game. Better than FarCry 4, not quite Halo, Skyrim, TLOU or Infamous, but good. The Multiplayer has some really good potential, but as mentioned, plagued with poor decisions and oversights made by the devs.

Visceral did a decent job on re-inventing battlefield to a different game style as they lean from a more non-vehicle perspective. Of course the almost current gen graphics degrade the game a little bit, what drew me in was the immerse episodic campaign that was amazing and well wrote. It's no lie that the story saved the game for me and probably many other gamers.

Well wait till its like $20. This is by far the weakest Battlefield to date.

I play the campaigns in every game as I enjoy the story. Between have the all powerful BADGE and the bullet sponge enemies. If you ever played Golden Eye for 64 on the high difficulty's trying to unlock golden guns and new maps. you'll know what I mean. Unloading rounds into heads watching them headbanging instead of dropping?! That doesn't equal difficult it's just painfully stupid.

Not much of a difference in what weapons you use. These are gang members not Elite units geared up for war with flak jackets and bodyarmor! A .44 magnum 2 shots .357 takes 3 shots? .45 like 5-8? At least in Battlefield 4 they were more accurate and you go down like in COD multiplayer with tryhards.

The levels are very small and uninspiring. The levels that aren't small are boring wastelands like the swamp level. It has you tagging airdropped packages in the everglades. There's plenty of eye candy with crocodiles popping up allover the places. The airboat feels like driving a car from the ps2 era..... You drive over a crocodile there is no thump and a jolt. Like you would get from backing over a hooker in GTA. The driving in general feels even worse than multiplayer where at least you can understand with rockets flying by and bullets tinging that you wouldn't notice.

Multiplayer feels different than the beta and not quite in a good way. It feels faster more twitch. In my opinion that's not a good thing. That is what separated Call of Duty and Battlefield's core mechanics and gunplay. The vehicles feel tacked on as apposed to were they felt ingrained into BF. There's too much open ground in this. For example I loved the map with the storm coming in. It changes the dynamic of the map completely. Long range sniping is out of the question. Also I find the spawning irritating to the point were you might as well always hoof it from the base spawn. Otherwise you risk being shot before you make it 2 steps. I find this works both ways as I've spawned behind the enemy and they have behind me. I could go on but others have more mulitplayer centered reviews that cover my grievances.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally I do not feel that the game is that great, it is basically a clone of Battlefield 4 with another theme. I do think that they could've done more with regarding the weapons or developing the "police vs criminals" theme aspect. The game mode "Hotwire" and "Heist" are fun, somewhat different to the old militaristic sort of game type of the other battlefields. However, "Hotwire" and "Heist" gets boring after 3-4hours due to limited amount of maps, and on occasions I feel that "Hotwire" just turns into Need for Speed, with guns added to the game, which can get tedious. What the biggest disappointment for me is the fact that they still included Conquer in the game. A. It does not suit well with the theme of police vs criminals. B. The maps are just too small for it to work, Battlefield 4 has way bigger maps, and the conquer suits with the theme of military battles.

After watching Totalbicuit's review on the game, there is one point I do agree with him, that the weapons do not fit the theme at all, and that both the police and criminals have military equipments, furthermore I do agree with TB in the fact that they should include less lethal equipment.

Even with this criticism I think that the game is by no means bad, it is certainly interesting to see something different coming out, however I would like them to develop it further with additional DLC.

the game is just not that fun at all. rather play bf4 than whatever this crap is and don't even like that game very much anymore. the BF series is really going down hill because of EA. generic and boring is how i can sum up this game.

The online mode is pretty straight forward and has the usual Battlefield modes, in addition to some new game types set up around cops and robber type scenarios. The regular modes like conquest seem to be much less chaotic than the new modes.

Graphics felt next gen, especially in the single player mode. I wish they would have focused less on the online aspect of the game and instead had a longer, deeper single player mode because that's really where the game shines in my opinion.

If you have EA Access or can grab this game for cheap, I say jump on it for the campaign if anything. It's nothing we haven't seen before, but it's still good fun.

I think this game is OK. It is fun has decent maps and a blast with friends. But it is obviously inferior to Battlefield 4. It has pretty bad graphics and horrible physics. To be honest I don't have much to say about this game it is decent and cheap so maybe give it a try.

Battlefield Hardline is the series' take on the cops-and-crooks genre. Its campaign takes the form of a campy TV cop show. Think a bad "Miami Vice" ripoff. The multiplayer modes play out much like previous entries, but with "Grand Theft Auto"-like objectives. Online matches are faster-paced due to the sports cars and smaller maps. Smooth audio and graphics. Still looks good even when compared to more recent releases.

Fun single player campaign with great story, characters and acting.

Really fun multiplayer although due to its age there not necessarily many servers to choose from.

Definitely worth getting for both single player and multiplayer fun.

It's got a good campaign but the multiplayer is kind of trash. And because of that, it's only deserving of a decent 7. Not as good as other Battlefield titles, but i wasn't expecting it to be anyway.

Incredibly subpar. Not "bad," just not good.

I've always liked the idea of a different Battlefield game, especially multiplayer-wise. Not a war setting, something different. This does that, and it's just OK. The campaign is, IMO, Battlefield's worst ever. Predictable, bland, and just straight-up not very fun to play at all. The lack of originality or creativity is straight-up nuts. I

Visceral's first attempt at a Battlefield game isn't a bad one, but there's little here to be excited about beyond an actual functioning online component.
