Attack on Titan 2 greatly improves upon its predecessor in nearly every way, but still comes with a few issues such as periodical freezing, and at times, poor control feedback. With these small problems to the side, this game undoubtedly does justice to its source material. Attack on Titan 2 is fast-paced energetic fun at its finest.

Attack on Titan 2 surpasses its predecessor in everything. It is a real gift for fans of anime and action games. One of a kind.

With its wealth of content, more refined and expanded gameplay, and clearly prettier visuals, Attack on Titan 2 is undoubtedly a worthy follow up to the original game.

Attack on Titan 2 is an enjoyable and pleasant adventure. It allows us to enjoy the events of both seasons of Attack on Titan anime from a new perspective. Despite its repetitive secondary missions, Koei Tecmo brings us a game that gamers, especially fans of Hajime Isayama's work, will definitely like.

Attack on Titan 2 is definitely a better game than the first. I just wish it was more new than retread. Still for those that skipped the first game it is easy to recommend. You can basically skip the first game as it is almost entirely recreated here, with plenty of quality of life improvements. Add in the co-op and competitive online modes and it is definitely the better package. An action-packed romp that shows Omega Force has chops outside of the normal Dynasty Warriors formula.

It may lack the political intrigue of the anime and manga, but there's a great deal of story to digest, and there's a healthy amount of playable content. The lack of enemy variety means that the game is best taken in short bursts, but those with even a passing interest in the series will enjoy Attack on Titan 2.

In truth, Attack on Titan 2 is more of the same as that found in Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom – just less exciting and slightly more frustrating in comparison.

The fact that it recycles so much of the 2016 game’s material means that in order to get to the new season 2 content you must first wade through a rehashed story mode with its dull sidequests and tedious dialogue choices.

While the campaign is rather short, the addictive nature of pulling off stylish moves to sever body parts keeps you coming back for more.

While mechanically and visually A.o.T. 2 shows improvement in almost every aspect to its predecessor the retelling of the “old” story that takes place over two thirds of the campaign playtime is definitely a downer.

Thankfully Attack on Titan 2 didn’t disappoint and in some ways the game feels much improved over the first game, which is no small feat because the first game didn’t have much wrong with it. You will notice from the get go that Attack on Titan 2 has new features this time around and these new features give the game a wealth of replayabilty and without a doubt the game will satisfy you for quite a while. There is also more customisation this time around and you’re free to chop and change your character to your heart’s content which means you can add your own personal touch. Once again there is a story that’s present throughout your playthrough, but I must admit that I found this aspect of the game to be a little disappointing because they didn’t involve me in the story as much as I would have liked and there isn’t many differences with what the story offered in the first game. The gameplay though shines bright throughout and once again the combat is fantastic. The combat feels a little bit better in this game and it remains fluid and tight at all times which means it has a very addictive side to it. Taking down a Titan never seems to get boring and you always seem to have a rewarding feeling when you finally manage to defeat them which in turn keeps you coming back for more time and time again. If you don’t fancy playing the game in single player then the game offers you a healthy offering of multiplayer modes for you to sink your teeth into. When played in multiplayer the game is even more fun and I didn’t suffer with many problems at all which is always a bonus. The presentation side of the game is not bad in any way I just felt it lacked in terms of the wow factor. Visually the game looks a little bit dated and unfortunately it doesn’t have any improvents over the first game. The sound design is a little bit better than the visuals but it still doesn’t have anything that stands out considerably which is a shame. At the end of the day I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Attack on Titan 2 and in my opinion it’s the perfect sequel because it maintains what was so good about the first game and improves in some areas at the same time. If you were a fan of the first game then you will no doubt love this game and if you’ve never tried these games before then I fully recommend that you give them a go. Full Review »

New additions include: a 'what-if' story that allows you to make your own character and play through season 1, season 2 + a secret chapter, multiplayer (finally), lots of new and interesting weapons, a ton of new unlockable playable characters (over 20 new), vastly improved UI, a few new special titans, an even better and more streamlined ODM system, new flashy attacks like the scoped sneak attack and air jump attack, a suite of new missions, season 1 cutscenes have been redone to match the anime 1:1, a lot new costumes (DLC and in-game), the friend and skill systems, base building and upgrading bases, Another Mode in which you can play as and level up your favorite characters from the series, graphics that recreate the feel of the anime, and an overhauled mission system.

All of this is apparent within the first hour of playing. Really recommended for fans of anime or those who are looking to get into it. AoT2 packs plenty of new stuff whether this is your jumping in point or if you were left wanting more after the first game-- and it all runs beautifully on whatever version you choose be it a PS4, an XB1, or even on PC.
