It's a good game. Not a great game. The graphics are meh, the story is meh, the game play is above meh and the overall presentation is good. Not as good as Andromeda.

Technically there's nothing wrong with Anthem... The core gameplay is smooth, the graphics are nice... and the sound is quality.

That's what's holding Anthem back, it's a collection of very great ideas, some of which are executed fantastically.. but it feels hollow... somehow incomplete.

Anthem is a AAA game, from production to gameplay to writing to acting... But the experience doesn't feel right...

The story has a great deal of depth within it and this depth meant that I very rarely got bored with the story during my time with the game. I found the world in which the game took place in to be very unique and the enemies you have to face during your journey are also unique as well. Flying and traversing was very fluid and satisfying and the controls worked really well remaining tight and responsive at all times. When played with friends the gameplay truly shines and defeating the very balanced AI in a group always gives you a great sense of achievement. Technically the game still suffers with a few hiccups on occasion and these can be a little annoying from time to time. In terms of content I would definitely like to see more because I can see it getting a little repetitive after a short while. At E3 there were a number of game’s that really caught my interest along with many others and Anthem was at the top of most of our lists. So, I was eager to get time with this game, and while it isn’t the perfect experience, and in some ways I did want a little more. Anthem provides gameplay that’s not only thrilling but also fun as well. I’m pleased to say that both the visuals and sound design are fantastic delivering immersive action in all areas, despite reminding me a great deal of Destiny and the grind associated with it. The presentation side of the game also makes the story stand out considerably and this meant that I very rarely lost interest in the story. In terms of the gameplay the flying and combat elements feel very fluid and satisfying and the world in which you can use these different elements in is very unique. You will however have to deal with a few technical issues along the way though and some of these issues were irritating. I was also a little disappointed with the amount of content available but thankfully I was able to overlook that thanks to the glorious and fulfilled action when playing with friends. Even though it has a few imperfections I still think Anthem is going to be a game that continues to grow as we see patches and future content (DLC), because the core idea is very good and with a few improvements it will be a much better game overall. The bad: yes, load times, the funky first person / third person viewing from exploring to the fort, never really felt like I got into the NPC's. A few had neat stories but that was about it. Unlike other bioware games where you like them and want to get to know them. Main story way to short, seriously.

Over all, it's a "good" game though and would recommend it to someone.

This is 9/11/19- Yes the initial release was lacking. Bioware is slowly adding content to this game and making the forge accessible with the hold of a button was a time saver. Load times are considerably shorter as well! I always felt the controls and feel of the weapons and explosions felt great and were always great. Give Anthem another play through if you haven't touched it in awhile.

I will admit, even that gets a bit boring after a while. It does however feel great bursting in the with your suit and soaring over a beautiful landscape. I have read articles that hypothesize that during Anthem's development, part of the game was scrapped and re-worked. I don't know how true that is but it sure does feel like it. Anthem doesn't know whether it want's to give you a compelling narrative or immersive gameplay, and it ends up doing neither particularly well. Maybe if Bioware's name wasn't on it, Anthem would have done a lot better but I gotta be honest I expected WAY better than this from BioWare even after the Andromeda debacle. Though Anthem may be worth picking up in a year or two I cant really recommend it at this point. Right now it's just a reminder that the BioWare I knew and loved is far removed from it's legendary status. I hope I'm wrong. Expand

If you enjoyed Mass Effect's combat style then you will probably like Anthem's combat. The story, yes not compelling but it's not really supposed to be in this style of shared experience game. Don't expect a rich story or deep characters, expect fun content and good visuals. My rating of a six is based largely on the fact that I found this game to be next to unplayable on Xbox One. I upgraded to an Xbox One X and the experience is much better. I full expect there to be some future support for Anthem, the 'games as a service' model has worked very well for Ubi and I think we will see EA on that bandwagon as well with this title. Expand

I've enjoyed the game style. I feel that the story is lacking. Bioware has really declined in their writing. I feel like it's mostly because of EA forcing the rushed release. You can see by Bioware's development roadmap the game is probably only 1/4 of the way finished. Sad that publishers are ruining games. I'm giving it a 6/10 hoping that it gets better.

This game is only worthy of a 6/10 at the moment.

For most games that is okay and acceptable, but for a game that I had high anticipation for since its announcement last year, Anthem was disappointing due to terribly executed elements like lack of informational tooltips that explained some of the mechanics, such as retrieving your challenge rewards or how to perform combos, and a myriad of bugs that include incompletable missions, failed quick plays and very long loading screens. On top of this, EA's influence over this game is very obvious, with the nonchalant placements of purchasable, with real or in-game currency, cosmetic items, purchasable materials for craftables, and the in-game special item known as shards, which are normally obtained through special end-game missions and can be bought using real money.

In addition, sometimes the long-loading screen would not complete and stay on the loading screen.

This leads to a need to quit the game and restart the game. On top of these frustrations, successful quickplay missions since the update that rolled out recently (February 1 or 2), have introduced a new bug where it says that your internet connection has been interrupted or lost, resulting in an infinite "search for new host". This again, means that you have to close the game and start it again.

Moving into the game, the city Tarsis is gorgeous but left much more to be desired. It is free-roam but you are locked to the corridors and spaces that Anthem want you to be in. For example, navigating to your Anthem, you are locked to what could be an immensely immersive and astounding experience especially with the market stalls that are there. It's linear and after the first time going through, you'll quickly get tired of it, as your game will most likely have to restart and you'll load into the default location where you have to walk up a set of stairs and then down the linear path towards your Anthem. Although there are additional areas to explore, they are empty and lack any reason to be there at all.

I couldn't help but be nostalgic about Skyhold from Dragon Age: Inquisition. But through nostalgia, I realised that there is too much familiarity with past games within Anthem. Specifically, the special effects, the linearity and locked-to-a-certain-path environment, and some game play were heavily reminiscent of Inquisition. Especially with the Storm Javelin and its effects. There were times where the shooting felt like Mass Effect.

    They are recycled effects.

The in-game store is an ongoing problem as they will offer unique materials and animations which you can buy with coins. It appears that this changes the dynamic of the game and if you want a more unique Anthem, you are almost manipulated into buying packs or items that allow you to make it a little more unique. The loot is pretty locked and the weaponry is recycled items that just scale with your level and add a different special effect here and there.

    However.

You put all the bugs, all the disappointments, the annoying fact that you are left to figure things on your own, the lack of cosmetic upgrades and the annoying EA styled store, it is hard to absolutely hate the game, and you can't help but enjoy the game when it actually works.

The game play mechanics allow for a solid and exciting grounds for firefights, which happen every time there is an encounter on the hard difficulty. If you are to play this game, make sure you only play on Hard. Having to be wary of your health and shields while carefully strafing or flying away from the devastating burst of shots or hits on you during those firefights, adds an element that you won't get in the normal mode. However, I would recommend Normal mode when you're starting out and gearing up.

Flying around is one of the most fun I've had in a game. I think this mechanic is one of the few that Anthem got spot on. Being able to control the flight into a hover and being able to launch into flight at the top of a button is an amazing experience, one that I was looking for in a lot of the games that I've played that were a sci-fi style genre, such as Mass Effect.

Overall, the game has an abundance of issues, such as the obvious influence from EA over this game with the store, the somewhat poor likability of the NPC's due to dry conversations with little personality, and the lack of likability from the player character as well, and the almost-game-breaking bugs that have made me curse the companies involved with this game and that I can't believe I paid full price for this game. Put the negatives aside (again, a lot), when your game works as intended, you love every little bit of it as it gets almost every aspect right and you keep wanting to play and play...

Until the mission ends and a system message comes up that says your connection has been lost so it's helping you look for and migrate to a new host. And then you have to start everything again. And again.

    And again.

But Anthem suffers from the same recent identity crisis that ME:A and DA2. In fact, the similarities are striking. Much like DA2, the story is on rails and lacks much of the emotional investment and expansive effects of you choices that players have come to expect from BioWare. Much like DA2, there are three major shifts in effect on your world to give the illusion that choice matters. Further, combat seems to be the major focus. But as you rise to Grandmaster leveled tasks, tedium takes over and mechanics dissolve as your enemies sponge your abilities. All this would make a title average and is mere commentary on the shift a once amazing studio. But what really kills Anthem is the lack of playability. Free play is hampered by your random placement in the world far from allies. The stat system is convoluted and adjustments to weapons seems to have minimal effects. Crafting is... why is there crafting? It’s useless as it is. And simply changing your load out to experiment to find the best combination of weapons and skills is an exercise in madness that takes an hour rather than a few minutes due to the need to leave the environment just to look at the drops you recieve. Thankfully, I didn’t see or experience the plethora of glitches day 1 players did. But 22 hours in, I’m honestly bored of doing the same “guard this” and “fetch that” actions over and over. In earnest, Anthem has the bones of a great BioWare game with the concept and design. But the desire to steal players away from games like Destiny and The Division forced BioWare away from where it shines. Gone are the characters we wish to spend more time with in dlc or over to hate for a grind that’s ultimately unfulfilling. Expand

Too much is lost in the process of going from a single-player campaign like Titanfall 2 into something like Anthem. You lose all of the heart of a single-player game, and don't gain much in gameplay. Game companies, get it together or look for other careers. Automatic score of 5 because it's unfinished, unpolished, broken in places, and just plain boring in others.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Now that the game is getting no more updates, I will review the (not) finished Anthem.

To no ones surprise, the release of this game was a mess, it was an empty open world, ridden by bugs.
The Story is boring, and almost non existent, and it honestly is a shame, because in the open world of Anthem, there is potential for a great story, and considering that this is BioWare, the people who made Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the story is a big disappointment. Not to mention, that you will have to sit through countless loading screens while playing Anthem. The Crafting System of the game sucks, because it goes beyond human logic, and requires much more items for a legendary version of a weapon than for the epic one. And since we are talking about loot, the loot in anthem still sucks, because it gives absolutely no reason to grind for better versions of the weapon, since it almost improves nothing.
The Endgame, which is supposed to give better loot and tougher enemies, is non existent, and sometimes you can beat a boss on hard in 2 minutes with a squad, and sometimes it takes 20 minutes.
The Menu also is a goddamn mess, with menus being inside of menus inside of menus, which also makes it difficult to find your friends who are also playing the game. With having no main story, it all feels lifeless and boring and is in total an uninteresting and forgettable story. Some NPCs have good lip synchronization, while others have absolutely awful. And of course, still, bugs galore.
Where Anthem shines is its Flight,Graphics and Gameplay.
Flying over the world is a glorious experience, combined with some amazing Graphics. And, besides the absolute disaster which is the loot, I have no complaints about the gameplay itself, its solid.

Well, in Overall, the game is a 3/10 alone and a 5/10 with friends. Yet the lifeless story and the boredom of it are things which are ruining the experience, whoever you are playing with. This game has potential, it always had, and if Anthem NEXT would improve on the Mistakes of Anthem, it would have been a worthy redesign which would be worth coming back to, yet sadly these are all piping dreams.
While I think BioWare should of course not screw up and focus on ME Legendary Edition and Dragon Age 4, Anthem is still unfinished and a slap to the face to everyone who paid 10$+ for this. It remains a dead game, and BioWares biggest failure to date.

I don't hate Anthem at all, i really enjoyed it right up until end game when there is simply NOTHING to do but endless runs of HOR at gm1 difficulty, the loot scales so poorly with difficulty that nobody bothers doing gm2 or 3 and when your at 700+ power gm1 is soloable! I have around 80 hours playtime and in the last 20 i did not receive a single worthwhile drop,a complete joke! The devs totally ignore repeated cries from the community(when there was one) to fix the loot, infact they went out of their way to not fix the loot by fixing a "bug" that had increased drops to a respectable rate.It appears there is only one table of roll for all items, so you may get a buff for say an assault rifle rolling onto a sniper rifle! So to actually get a set with decent rolls will take a stupid amount of time, probably even still unreasonable with a better drop rate but as it is now its just awful!
Now the roadmap has been totally removed from view, like it never existed! Wonder how many prior reviews will change? Most knew it was just pretend, player base has dwindled to the point that more people are playing xbox360 games than this, its dropped out of the top 50 played games on xbox, considering bf1 is still in there and ony has a few thousand players its safe to assume Anthem has considerably less, probably a mere 1500 on xbox id say, matchmaking has become a real problem for the handful of people still left. They have tried to save it somewhat by rushing this thing through they are trying to pass of as the "cataclysm" that was on the roadmap, thing is that its nothing at all like what they described the cataclysms to be! Instead it appears to be nothing more than a separate stronghold/s that they had in the works already that they simply whacked a filter on and added some wind in a desperate attempt to try and keep the community but it is far too little far too late and the fact that its obviously nothing at all what was shown at e3 is probbably more damaging than releasing nothing.I didn't pay for this game,it was bundled with a console, had i however i would have gotten a refund ages ago, false advertising and broken promises %100.Anyone who paid for this trash should be fighting hard to get a refund, its never going to be even %25 of what they promised. The pretty graphics and decent flying mechanics are not enough by themselves.Even if it didn't have stupidly long loading scenes and crashes galore, it still wouldn't be worth buying. It honestly feels like a f2p game and i wont be at all surprised if that's what ends up happening to it.If it doesn't go f2p,expect the servers to be turned of within 12months, no way EA will keep hosting servers for the maybe 2 or 3 people who will still be playing it at that stage.

Well...it was. My FIRST four player raid or whatever it is called would have server problems after completing the mission, but it would not save my progress. I have done it three times, and it is horrible. The story of the game I have not finished because for some reason no NPC wants to talk to me anymore and give me new content. I'm sure it's been patched by now, but I haven't touched the game in months. Everything on my YouTube channel of this game is all that I've played for the story and other missions. Other than the server problems, I didn't notice glitches. Loading is a huge problem. The "social hub" often loads after entering an area, dropping in NPC's and shops seconds after entering the market. Some might call this loading screen simulator, and you'd be right because I've spent two or more minutes most of the time in loading screens. The time played does not justify the loading screens. It does not matter what you're loading, it loads SLOWLY. Probably the biggest redeeming feature about this game is flying. I'd say that this game is worth the $10 that many pawn shops sell this game for if you want something that makes you feel like Iron Man with a gun. Player controls feel good. Enemies are bullet sponges if they are a miniboss or an actual boss. I personally don't mind the pointless decisions made in the social hub, but I know that others do. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted to like this game. Let’s go over where I like it. The story seems good and I like the cut scenes and characters. But this post apocalyptic style of story telling where something really bad happened and there’s these Freelancers. It’s just been over saturated. Anthem is no different then the traveler and the freelancers are essentially guardians. And I do t know what this legacy and legend talk is but who cares? I want to play a game and bringing those up just seems like marketing used since ME3. And the post apocalyptic stuff is so over played. Destiny, Division, now Anthem. I mean come on. Conversation trees are just a binary option with no substance and we know they can do better. The suites are neat idea and the flight is awesome, It looks great. The customization of colors is on point. I am just not a fan of the chicken legs. Personal preference. Not a biggy. However, if you spent time on warframe or Destiny there seems to be a mix of these styles. I don’t see why a suit needs a cape or why firearms need to be covered in cloth or rags. Now finally the game itself. I am constantly getting disconnected. The suits overheat way too fast and I mean way too fast. The game is constantly crashing and during the load up of missions I have overlays of the animation where I suite up next to another render of my suites crotch. I am so sick and tired of falling for this EA trap of having this unfinished they’ll patch it later nonsense. The game seems barren and the enemies I’ve been facing? I just want to play the crab people song from South Park. It’s really too bad they ruined Mass Effect. Can you imagine if they made an MMO for that? They could have even introduced this flying system. It would have been sweet. But they burned that to the ground. Now we have this new story that copies Destiny, Warframe, and a post apocalyptic setting with some mysterious anthem. The only thing this game has going for it is it actually has a story with cut scenes and substance unlike Destiny. But outside of that, it’s another game that feels like it’s jnfinished or stripped and they’re going to take youbover the coals via DLC. I’m not a fan. Expand

That being said, I also own the game on PC and I will regurgitate this review with a PC review as well. I will also say that having a decent PC gives me a solid benchmark to compare this game on separate platforms. (GTX 1080, AMD Ryzen 7 1700X, 16 GB ram and NVM SSD support with a 144hz 27in monitor)

I will start with the hardware performance. The Xbox version does not give you a very smooth rendered version of the game and the textures and resolution are rough around the edges, this definitely affect the ability to be immersed in the world and also affects the ability to shoot targets without a good zoom factor. It has a "butter over too much toast" feel, like it was made for next-gen. I felt this way about Red Dead Redemption 2, where i saw minor details in the graphics start to fail. The PC version on ultra settings is incredible, graphics wise.

Now onto the game its self. The story is not compelling as you find a lack of a convincing villain. There is no build-up for the backstory when the Dominion are introduced. Remember Saren in Mass Effect? He was the villain we could all understand right off the bat. He was the best of the SPECTRE, he betrayed his cause, he was given a character that felt, spoke, and reasoned, and he was a lead/foreshadow to the Reaper threat, the ultimate bad guys. All we know about Dr. Harkin is that he led the dominion before the Heart of Rage, looked like a creepy clown out of costume, and probably died. Up front, that is my main gripe about Anthem's story line. This is the first way it is like the first Destiny game. The second way is the lore. The Anthem (similar to the Traveler) is a fulcrum of creation technology that factions fight to control. The Freelancers (Guardians) are essentially mercenary loyalists living in what appears to be the last stronghold for the good guys, running around with limited organization or control. They tend to ally with the Sentinels, which aren't explained well off the bat. You quickly realize, like in Destiny, you aren't really a faction but a group of people that have common goals. Furthermore, we don't know who is in charge, but because we accept contracts to get things done, one can only conclude its rich people. This doesn't add up to a good plot because the protagonist has conflicting motivators and the means of saving the world must rely on people paying him to do so. Destiny had a much better foundation with this. Guardians were intrinsically motivated because if the Traveler died, they died, if the Traveler died, humanity died. They existed and fought to protect the people, that was their motivation. Freelancers fight for money with a competing motivator to save people. This is a GREAT concept in an RPG shooter because you can choose your path and write your own story. Unfortunately, those choices are severely limited here and Anthem leaves us feeling like Bioware refused to commit fully to RPG shooter.

Gameplay. The gameplay felt a little off. First, the flight mechanics were suppose to set this game apart. However, they really just become your sparrow from Destiny. Oh, and they overheat, which makes no sense at all. The people can make a high tech robot suit but can't figureout how to cool off a flying object a fraction of the size of airplanes, something we have mastered in real life. This leaves me having to dive to cool while flying and do a kind of up-down path to maintain temperature. Annoying. In the beginning, you can't fly and shoot or attack at the same time, you can only hover and shoot, which is bad because you have no cover. It's essentially useless and after the first few minutes leaves you feeling disappointed. The shooter mechanics have a very Mass Effect feel and there is a problem with that. This game is trying to achieve a "Destiny" like effect. Low story content, addicting loot structure. It fails the same way The Division failed, in my opinion. Without being close up in first person, you cannot see your gun very well. This makes it difficult to feel like one gun is different from the next. Destiny made us feel like every gun was special, like a new puppy. I always felt like Mass Effect shooter mechanics were simplified but i didn't mind because of the RPG factor. Now I mind. Next, there is the way bad guys move. They don't seem to have any real grace or complexity. They feel stiff. Furthermore, its hard to tell if I am fighting bad guys, or wild animals at the beginning.

Ok, the good things. The game's graphics are breathtaking on PC. The gameplay feels fluid with keyboard and mouse. It almost makes up for the rest of the game being mediocre. This makes me wonder how much Bioware spent testing on consoles. The Javelin (mechsuits) are pretty cool and the customization factor makes you feel like a mech warrior without the clunkiness of a Mech Warrior.

I went full speed ahead and purchased the Legion Of Dawn edition of the game in expectations that I would get exclusive in game content; a banner, some armor, shaders and a weapon. I was overly disappointed in the lack of use for the banner, the lack-luster of the LOD shader and how quickly (1 hour) I tossed the Legendary weapon aside for a common one (grey).

Overall the graphics are great, minus the many many cuts, removals and drawbacks from the many game play reveals on the hype-train. The story is more or less, not needed; UNLESS you are a lore hunter and want to delve into the side stories, monologue and "interactive" conversations with NPCs throughout this 1st part of the game.

That's right I said 1st part of the game, I'm looking forward to the rest.

The replay-ability of the game is based on the many numerous fighting styles you can learn and master throughout each mission rewarding randomly generated equipment, sometimes closely related to your Javelin. Javelin's are very different which is appreciated. I often see game comparisons online, in chat and in reviews; however how can you really compare a game based on its structure? The story is drastically different and refreshing, however the bad part is the fever pitch in how you begin and how "to be continued" happens.

I remain skeptical on the "Free content" that is going to tie up loose ends and continually be offered. I've been told this promise before. However because of the reply-ability however monotonous it is, although still fun, I will more than likely drop whatever price they list later in the Xbox Store for the future DLCs and content, purely so I can have a sense of completeness from my experience, versus being left on a cliff hanger as many gamers like me are.

and before you push aside this review like many others as "another no-lifer playing the game too hard" I am clearly not.

Hard truth - Do not buy, rent.

    Cons:
server disconnections, long boring loading screens, careless matchmaking algorithm, clumsy in game interfacing and interactions with objects, RNG lootbased system, lack of economic system (coins are useless), walk speed in fort tarsis, LOD edition items (fail)

Pros: Graphics, Story, Challenges, Teamplay potential.

If possible I will update this review later on.

After 40h it has had some neat moments, but in the end it is simply too janky for the very thin amount of content to be any fun. I was willing to accept that you have to play the same one or two missions over and over to collect enough endgame loot in order to try and survive the highest difficulty; but when I finally got a decent run, defeated the final boss and picked up 5 exciting new pieces, the stupid game crashed loading the victory screen and kicked me to the main menu because there had been some connection error. When I got back in, it acted like I hadn't even played that mission. Poof. No loot for you.

It looks really good, I guess. It's fun to zip around like Iron Man and launch missiles at monsters, sure. Of course, you have to stop flying every 30s or you'll crash when your thrusters overheat. I guess they wanted you to have to stop and look around or something? Sometimes you can fly under a waterfall or into a lake and get another 30s without having to land a wait awhile though. Get ready to live for those moments.

Also, can we agree that there's a difference between challenging gameplay and wildly lopsided numerical contests? Turn the difficulty up to "maybe you'll get one or two nice drops" and watch your previously effective war machine suddenly rendered almost instantly kill-able by virtually every badguy on the map, while even the lightest of enemies can soak up 3 magazines from your favorite assault rifle with a smile. You're supposed to use your suits other abilities to create damage multipliers called "combos", but good luck with that when you've got two or three aggros. Once you've suffered through enough of that for your buddies to hate you for all the time they spent reviving your busted ass, be ready to have your precious winnings utterly forgotten about by the duct-taped hackery holding the whole damn thing together.

Easily the thing I hate the most is that it's simply inexcusable to have ruined what could have been such a great thing with technical problems. It's like taking delivery of your new Porsche only to find the leather is attached with Elmer's glue and they lubed the transmission with peanut butter.

I gave this game a chance because it seemed like a really neat concept and a way to fill the loot-shooter shaped hole in my life left by the Borderlands drought. Do yourself a favor and don't be like me. Wait for the real thing.

The difficulty is solely based on how much health the enemies have, but the actual combat stay exactly the same. Every single mission is exactly the same, with minimal changes in scenery. Load times are absolutely insane. Story is bland, and just ad-libbed sci fi nonsense that does not do a good job of immersing the user in the world at all. The game is a boring mess. You'll waste 4 or 5 hours before you realize the story isn't going anywhere, your loot consists of lame guns that you have to leave missions to use, you'll watch more loading screens than actually playing (no, seriously) and the enemies..... I never felt the desire to customize my character at all after the initial build. The guns are generic as well, I found the LMG to be the only useful one. The character voice acting is good but it's hard to care about any of it and the choices made in the conversations do not seem to greatly impact anything. The only reason why its easy for me to play this game because its basically octopath traveler but with more mobility, realism, and futurism thats it. What Anthem was inspired by decided to basically steal similar grindy missions like other boring games. I knew this generation console was going to be more about graphics than the actual game itself. This is 6 years of trash and inspired by other disaster games even though its graphically better but thats it. I guess ill stay stuck to overwatch. The game is full of bugs, at times making it unplayable, or at the very least extremely frustrating.

    Loading screens for EVERYTHING.

A game that was in development for 6 years should be polished, and well thought out. This game clearly had no player testing. Just to name a few quality of life issues: no waypoints on the map, locating teammates during free play is a joke, there is no stat page, you move like a snail at the fort, you can’t see or equip loot until you get back to the fort, which requires multiple loading screens first, the world feels empty until enemies apparate out of thin air, there is almost no endgame (only 3 strongholds which are recycled content), there is no point to get past grandmaster 1 difficulty because the loot doesn’t increase. I could go on.

And to top it all off this is a loot based game, yet the loot is completely unrewarding. Half of the loot is bugged or doesn’t even work right in the end game.

Looks nothing, absolutely nothing like the E3 demo and there aren't any story moments remotely like what they showed. Also, you can't see your loot when you acquire it (even though that was a thing in the E3 demo). Story is on par with Destiny 2 and from any other dev this would be forgivable but this is Bioware. Honestly, this makes the story of Mass Effect Andromeda more appealing by far.

Why is everything so tiny? The trees are small, the buildings are small, the enemies are small, the mech things look too small to hold people even the environment looks severely scaled down to "miniature" levels. The scope is nowhere near what was shown. Someone at Bioware needs to learn about proper 3D scaling

Core gameplay loop is fun, at least for a while. Enemies are tiny on screen and difficult to distinguish from each other and can range from brainless hordes or one-shot auto cannons with legs. Shooting is good, abilities are great but there's no variation in the weapon design at all. All you get is better versions of what you already have. A lot of the loot is garbage tier, simply there to pad out the illusion that there's "loot" in the game.

Post patch there's still issues (its a modded version of the Andromeda engine, of course its janky). Glitches galore and loading screens everywhere and often. You'll spend most of your time looking at these loading screens. There's only one (somewhat small) zone/map and it all looks the same. No desert area, no snow area, literally nothing different in terms of environmental design. World is empty and lifeless. Fort Tarsis is worse, nothing like the bustling hub from the reveal trailer.

The death of the last boss just cannot be excused. "Anti-climactic" isn't a strong enough word. The demise of the final boss has about as much impact and visual flair as watching a Tonka truck gently glide into an action figure. I had to pull up the scene on YouTube so I could rewind it a few times and make sure I wasn't imagining things. You thought Ghaul was bad? Archon from ME:A? The Monitor is a new low for gaming villains. I cannot believe this game came from Bioware.

I could go on, but why? It's an unfinished game. It was not ready for prime time. It's as wide as an ocean and not even as deep as a puddle. Bioware had 6 years to make this game. 6 years. There is no reality where this game on day one is representative of 6 years of work. This was your last chance Bioware and you failed. Six. Years. What happened? Where's the content? I'll tell you: It's being drip fed as "improvements" and "add ons" or "DLC" ripped straight from Bungies play book.

Bugs ranging from the sound completely going out, to mission objectives that never appear causing an entire mission to have to be quit and redone, to constant crashes to the games title screen, crashes to Xbox home, and times when the game just completely freezes. This game in all honesty is a godforsaken mess. What the hell happened Bioware? Oh yeah, thats right, EA happened.

Lets also talk about the loot system and drop rate. It is for the most part broken and complete garbage. Playing on Grandmaster 1 will still drop some common items laughably and 99% of what you get ranges from Uncommon to Epic. Very rarely and I mean VERY VERY rarely you may get a Masterwork item (Better than Epics). Which comes to the reason I am here reviewing this game and ceasing any more play time with this horrendous piece of trash. Tonight, after pouring hours and hours playing and doing missions and strongholds......Finally, a LEGENDARY dropped. MY FIRST ONE IN ABOUT 60-70 hours. These things never ever drop, I mean never. The planets must have been aligned for me to actually get one. I finished up Freeplay, which is where I got it, quit the expedition. While its loading guess what happens, CRASH TO XBOX HOME. Everything I had just done and received.....GONE. The game doesn't save until the end of a mission. In a buggy disgusting mess like this, you dumb as **** developers put the save at the very end!? I was in complete shock and could not believe it. I also think the game is partly rigged to do that when you get good drops so you have to grind this garbage forever with no reward.

Do yourselves a favor people, avoid this game and stay very far. Don't accept it as a gift and don't even take it for free. We should be getting paid by Bioware and EA for play testing and putting up with this no-where-near-finished shell of a "game". Instead we paid top dollar for pure crap. I haven't bought EA games in a long time and gave this a chance. You screwed me EA, you screwed us all. Done with EA and Bioware, never spending a dime on their half-assed games again. Hope both go bankrupt.

Boring and repetitive. every map looks the same. the loading screens are ridiculous. also the 4 tomb thing to progress is straight terrible that made me quit and then the story is short and expect to do the same content a bunch of times on higher skill levels

Im an older gamer (38) Ive played a lot of stuff in my time.

Lately ive been bored and looking for something to scratch that gaming itch. As Battle Royales arent my thing... Anthem seemed like what I was looking for. I admit... since Friday its been a struggle sometimes. Literally staring at my computer WILLING IT to load faster.. always being the last one in on a mission and flying

So color me skeptical when you said "we will patch this we will fix it"

I just played a legendary contract.

I loaded in in ... a third? a fourth? of the time I used to (HDD not SSD)

My team were there on the platform with me! Loaded in with me!

I proceed to go... and enjoy...

Something feels different immediately, some of the combat wonkyness and jitters are gone. My colossus (because Thiccboy is life) feels... more... Colossal..

I can shield and pick up my downed teamies...

the melee jitters that I felt before are gone, its so much smoother.

THE LOADING... THE LOADING IS BETTER.. SO MUCH BETTER OH GODS THE LOADING! 15-20 seconds from end expedition into the forge. Forge loads almost instantly! Fort Tarsis loads 15 seconds now? maybe?

    I mean.. wow...

If you can do this in 4 days... then people NEED to give you props that you rightfully deserve.

I believe in you, the game isnt perfect, but the issues you fixed this fast shows what youre capable of and I believe youll fix the other stuff straightaway.

Im along for the ride Bioware - Thank you for making something I truly enjoy and for all the sleepless nights you guys at the office put in over the last few days to get it to the point its at now.

It was really boring. Constantly felt like getting up to do something else. Boss fights suck and the story is dull. This game has no reward

There is currently a game breaking bug affecting thousands of users across all three platforms. The bug prevents a user from playing beyond the tutorial.

There is /no/ working workaround for this bug.

Do not purchase this game until it's been patched into a more stable state.

In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting.

As a multiplayer game, the combat here is fun, but heading back to Fort Tarsis to grab the next quest becomes a chore; I found myself fast-forwarding as much dialogue as possible so I could get back into battle. There are likable characters in Anthem if you pay attention, and Bioware’s depth of story does shine if you’re interested. You won’t always be interested, though.

A game with a lot of potential that was released before it was ready.
