  1. In the very least, it's a fun way to get bragging rights over your friends without actually inflicting pain, and hey, it could be worse - we could be playing "Raw 3."
  2. If you want all the moves, entrances, costumes and storylines you know and love perfectly rendered, then this is a consummately crafted experience tailored just for you. Yet for the beat 'em up fanboy or non-wrestling fan - newbies beware! - this is going to be very short-lived entertainment.
  3. Developer Yukes deserves nine Stone Cold Stunners for the game's lack of polish. Yet despite its flaws, SmackDown successfully retains its wrestling championship, thanks to its 67-superstar roster, 20 plus match types, deep General Manager and Season modes, gorgeous visuals, and finally, four person online play that's easy to set up and difficult to put down.
  4. Smackdown vs RAW is the wrestling "FIFA" - drowning in customisable settings, but the gameplay isn't always completely there. However, like "FIFA," SvsR has made some admirable steps this year.

It's flawed in several ways that may annoy and frustrate a newcomer, but seasoned wrestling gamers will find everything they love about SmackDown and a whole lot more. [Issue 18, p.79]
  6. The game engine is certainly in need of a makeover, and this might be the last year THQ can offer what is more or less a slight update, but it's a fun game and something that will get more than a few hours play with some mates.

The first truly decent wrestling game on the Xbox format but it's marred by two rather massive flaws that really effect how the game plays. If they weren't there, it'd score much higher. [Issue 14, p.80]

It's a passable wrestling game that never gives any impression of credibility. Going through the motions of making a game without any unique concept or vision is fine - if it hasn't been done many times before.

The best WWE game there is. A great mix of gameplay and story helped it to that title.

The roster selection is pretty good (wish Jeff Hardy was in it though) and the stage designs are detailed and beautiful. The entrances are pretty spot on for each wrestler with great lighting effects for pyro. The superstars themselves are very detailed on the Xbox 360 and actually look more realistic than WWE 2K19 at times.

The use of the right analog stick for grapples was a great addition for the game because it makes the buttons less cluttered with combinations to remember. "Ultimate Control Moves" are fun to use and the "Environmental Hotspots" are also quite entertaining to use. The stamina meter can be annoying for some, but the option to get rid of it is appreciated for those who want a more arcade style of wrestling games.

The season mode is filled to the brim with storylines that feel like your part of a WWE show. The branching storylines offer you the chance to bring out your face (good guy) or heel (bad guy) persona. It's better than the current mode we have on WWE 2K19.

GM Mode is pretty underrated and serves like a franchise mode for a sports game. It's fun to take over a WWE show and run it like a GM. I'm sad that this mode isn't back in the current WWE games.

The creation suite is a little lacking with the lack of an option to add your own custom music and loading screens to preview animations take a long time, but it's still very fun to use.

The soundtrack is a joy to listen to with a majority of it being rock music being used compared to crappy pop and hip-hop music used now. For a wrestling event I see rock music as more of an appropriate choice of music because it pumps you up which the music does.

Overall, I say this is a great installment in the SVR franchise and the last good one before the terrible game that was SVR 2008. If you want a WWE game with great gameplay and stories; this is the game for you!
