It manages to be both convoluted and shallow all at the same time. Playing this game can literally be related to Lost in Space.
  2. Wing Commander Arena has the right idea, but the gameplay and presentation come together to form an extremely dull experience.

Four modes, 18 different ships, loads of weapons and power-ups, none of it especially enjoyable. [Sept 2007, p.96]

Perhaps EA would have done better to port a previous Wing Commander game in its totality rather than staple the name to a somewhat anaemic effort of an awkwardly inauthentic shape. [Oct 2007, p.99]
  5. Wing Commander Arena is a rudimentary shooter, the sort of thing that might have passed muster as a homebrew PC title ten years ago, but an unimpressive trudge for console gamers today.

    A wasted opportunity. [Sept 2007, p.109]

    Rubbish. [Issue#24, p.101]

It's a great addition to XBLA. Good Co-op.

I don't know what game some of those ^^^ reviews were playing - but scoring 80+ is far too generous. Worth 800 points? Maybe. Single I don't know what game some of those ^^^ reviews were playing - but scoring 80+ is far too generous. Worth 800 points? Maybe. Single player lacks any depth and is no more than training for multiplayer battles. Fortunately mulitplayer options are reasonable entertainment. The controls are a bit limiting and the fact you only fly in 2D seems a bit lame, but you do get upto 4 weapons per ship and 18 ship to choose from, all with their own individual weapons set and handling. Only buy if you like shooting stuff. Full Review »
