Official Xbox MagazineBetween equipment variety, handling differences, respawning pick-ups, and the cunning nooks and crannies of each map, the emergent strategic possibilities deliver surprising depth. [Aug 2007, p.72]
-
All-in-all, Wing Commander Arena is what an Xbox Live Arcade game should be about- fast-paced pick-up-and-play action with a dash of depth. If you can live with being lost in space, and in only one plane of such a vast expanse, then download Wing Commander Arena post-haste.
-
Honestly for 10 dollars/800 MS Points you really can’t go wrong with Wing Commander Arena.
-
Wing Commander Arena attempts to revive the past with a lukewarm effort that many fans might find to be blasphemous. WCA was built around the multiplayer experience, but the inability to keep your group of gamers together in player matches goes against the spirit of Xbox Live.
-
It offers a lot of options for your 800-points and 16-player team battles can be quite enjoyable, but there's just not enough meat on its bones to constitute a satisfying meal.
-
Wing Commander Arena should only be downloaded by spaceship nuts that need to play every sci-fi game. Otherwise, you may want to pass on it.
-
As long as you go into this game realizing that it in no way resembles anything truly Wing Commander, and are prepared for a shareware style 2D space shooter with limited fun and potential, knock yourself out.
-
It manages to be both convoluted and shallow all at the same time. Playing this game can literally be related to Lost in Space.
-
Wing Commander Arena has the right idea, but the gameplay and presentation come together to form an extremely dull experience.
-
Xbox World 360 Magazine UKFour modes, 18 different ships, loads of weapons and power-ups, none of it especially enjoyable. [Sept 2007, p.96]
-
Edge MagazinePerhaps EA would have done better to port a previous Wing Commander game in its totality rather than staple the name to a somewhat anaemic effort of an awkwardly inauthentic shape. [Oct 2007, p.99]
-
Wing Commander Arena is a rudimentary shooter, the sort of thing that might have passed muster as a homebrew PC title ten years ago, but an unimpressive trudge for console gamers today.
-
Official Xbox Magazine UKA wasted opportunity. [Sept 2007, p.109]
-
X-ONE Magazine UKRubbish. [Issue#24, p.101]
