Having been using 'Your Shape' I was hoping UFC Personal Trainer to be somewhat more exciting and providing extra features. Was it? Has it? No.
Straight off the bat, the loading times were huge. While the menu's looked nice, the actual ingame graphics are shocking. We're talking worse then the original Xbox. But graphics aren't everything obviously.

I began the 30 day program and it crashed half way through. Yep, total freeze. And as there's no midway save (that's right, an hour of excising will not be saved unless it's complete), I had to restart again. Which means the damn 10 minutes warm up needs to be repeated. Of course you can skip parts, but this takes just as long as the session anyway to do. Think the horror of Microsofts "Are you Sure?" buttons. Those glory days are back!
Attempting to move to another activity, it will once again runs you through the boring warmup. And it will keep doing this for every activity until you complete that activity. By this stage I was fuming.
So how good was it reading ones movements? For general stuff like punching, it's very good. But the moment I had to lean forward, it couldn't read me at all. In fact, it wasn't possible to complete some activities without skipping them. Retuning the kinect made no change. Strange as only UFC Trainer has this problem. 'Your Shape' works fine.
So what about versatility? Compared the 'Your Shape', it felt very shallow. Your teeth will grind with the continuos looping of voice and the limited amount of different movements made it feel like a $10 game. And moving from one excercise to the next one required more loading time. It's strange but rather then feeling the calories burn, I felt my patience burn. It had the nagging ability to insult ones intelligence.
The final straw came when it failed to read any movement and ended saying "That was terrible!". Yes, it was terrible. The whole game. One cannot understand how it can appear so rushed, no polish, and yet they spent so much time on it. And the no save feature will lead you to stab your own eye for relief.
I'm sure if you absolutely love MMA, you'll overlook pretty much everything and let your imagination take you to where the game is trying to reach. For the normal person looking to get fit or remain fit, carving off your fat with a knife is less painful.
One for the bargain bin.… Expand
