  1. As tepid as gaming gets, put forth with the bare minimum of effort in a quick and cynical attempt to grab some free cash. It's not good in the slightest, and it's not even remarkable enough to be considered bad. It's just there, doing the one thing it's supposed to do -- make a load of money for two weeks, then disappear into obscurity where it firmly belongs.

When you make Michael "Bayhem" look smart, something's gone very wrong. [Oct 2009, p.94]
  3. Better than the previous chapter but under the average level of the genre, without no chance to be fun and involving. There is no doubt that you can't have fun with this, even being a real fan of the brand. Sad.

The components here function and rarely frustrate, but the machine they comprise only manufactures mediocrity. [Sept 2009, p.95]

    Dull and frustrating. [Issue#49, p.88]
  6. The quintessential movie tie-in, a self-fulfilling prophecy of functional banality. On the surface it's brash, busy and superficially attractive, but underneath it's hollow, blatantly padded and more than a little monotonous. It's never much fun, but nor is it wonky enough to be terrible. It's simply there, a forgettable distraction.
  7. A step in the right direction, but still nowhere close to being the ideal Transformers game.
  8. It will probably keep young gamers interested for a while, but for anyone who has experienced the dizzying heights of gaming's pinnacle titles, this is best left avoided unless you're wanting a sour taste and an unjustifiably lighter wallet.

How ironic that Revenge Of The Fallen should be weighed down with options to keep you coming back, yet offer pitifully few reasons to play it in the first place. [Sept 2009, p.120]

The last reviewer talked about SP, and I can't do a whole lot to defend it. Its ok. But he failed to mention anything about what makes this game a sleeper. We've wanted the ability to play with transforming robots online. And this iteration is a pretty damn good attempt. There are plenty of varied robots to choose from, each having a unique special ability. Graphically the robots and transformations are nice, the maps and other textures not so much. Maps are a little tight, but work out fine. The 8 player cap would be a complaint, but its rare that you have to deal with that issue. Game modes, TDM, pretty straight forward. DM, One Shall Stand, basically VIP from Halo, Capture the shards, and Capture the point. Of all of these I enjoy the Capture the point the most. Its a mode we all are familiar with, but the see saw battles are super fun. Hopefully more people will pick it up as DLC is supposed to be steady. Full Review »

About 6 hours worst case should have both campaigns complete for you, so there's not a whole lot packed into this for single player. The campaign missions get pretty repetitive as well - there's a reason for the name of the "Grind On" achievement. Hardcore fans of Transformers should give the game a rent, there's probably enough in there to justify the cost of a rental. But to outright buy the game for anything more than $19.99 would be criminal. It's not the worst movie tie-in game ever, but there's not a whole lot in here, it's not challenging, and will probably bore a lot of people. Full Review »
