Mar 30, 2011Anyone that played the PC version should be right at home here. In fact, the game is basically the same all around, which, disappointingly, means that the XBLA version of the game also lacks co-op. This is the only real downside to Torchlight.
-
Apr 14, 2011Torchlight is a highly enjoyable game, easy to get the hang of and the over all design elements are very pleasing. Torchlight by Runic Games is necessary game to have in the library of games for any true sword and sorcery fan. This game is dungeon crawling, sword and sorcery at its purest and fun form.
-
Mar 18, 2011This is one you will enjoy from start to finish, and it absolutely belongs in your 360 library.
-
Mar 4, 2011Torchlight is what happens when developers with a passion for what they do come together. You can tell the guys and gals that made this game truly love the genre and know what makes it fun.
-
Mar 11, 2011Even without multiplayer, Torchlight makes for a remarkably entertaining 10 to 15 hours, with plenty more custom content to come thanks to the powerful game editor TorchED, which you can download free of charge.
-
Mar 25, 2011When love and passion for dungeon crawlers come together, the results are games like Torchlight. This action/RPG is the best choice for those who just canʼt wait for Diablo III. Great gameplay, long hours, addiction and a low price tag, all in one!
-
Mar 21, 2011With deep character customization and addicting gameplay, Torchlight becomes easily worth the 1200 Microsoft Point price tag.
-
Mar 16, 2011Minor graphical issues and clunky inventory management aside, Torchlight for XBLA does a spectacular job of translating a PC dungeon hack-and-slasher to two analogue sticks and face buttons.
-
Mar 9, 2011It's fun, nice to look at, and will scratch your OCD itch of needing the next level of plate mail to complete your awesome battle attire.
-
Mar 9, 2011Having never played Torchlight on the PC before, I was floored by everything the game had to offer. The looting, the character progression, and the addictive combat -- all wrapped up in an attractive bow with a low price point -- make for one fun game that you shouldn't pass up.
-
Mar 9, 2011Even without multiplayer, however, Torchlight on XBLA is as close as you can get to dungeon crawling nirvana for $15. Like its PC counterpart, it removes the cruft of the genre, allowing players to get right down to the loot-driven core with a minimum of fuss. And now, thanks to the streamlined controls, we get it all without the constant clacking of a mouse.
-
Mar 4, 2011In the end, Torchlight is a home-run for any Action RPG fan! It's an easy "Buy" at 1200 MP and no fan of the genre should be without it.
-
Mar 2, 2011Fortunately, what this exceptional new version of a PC favorite lacks in story, it more than makes up for with deep character customization, ever-more-powerful loot, and a dungeon-generation system that'll devour whole days of your life. [April 2011, p.76]
-
Mar 31, 2011For those looking for something to tide them over until Diablo III finally comes out, Torchlight should be your first port of call. However, if you already played the PC version, there is little here to make you buy it again.
-
Mar 14, 2011If you liked Diablo then Torchlight is your thing! The fingerprints of the former Blizzard developers are all over this and it feels great. This game proofs that this genre is not out-dated. Get yourself back in the mood for a dungeon crawler.
-
Mar 17, 2011For fifteen dollars, you get a lot of gameplay with Torchlight. It's very much made for people who are already fans of the genre, but I could see a new player having fun with it too; on Easy or Normal, it begins slowly enough that just about anybody could get up a good head of steam. It's not the kind of thing you play if you're looking for a strong, unforgettable narrative, but it'll keep you busy for at least a few days.
-
Mar 16, 2011It has charm and polish that elevate it beyond a simple Diablo clone to something special in its own right.
-
Mar 9, 2011Despite the strange inventory, Torchlight is incredibly fun and addicting.
-
Mar 9, 2011Torchlight was originally made on a tiny budget in under a year, with all of around 25 people working at Runic at the height of development. For all that, it's a better dungeon crawler than most everything else that has been released post-Diablo II.
-
Mar 7, 2011Torchlight is probably the closest thing to a Diablo experience on the Xbox 360. The perfectly translated controls and addictive gameplay makes this a must-buy for anyone with an affinity for loot hoarding. If anything, it serves as a great appetizer for the much-anticipated sequel.
-
Mar 4, 2011While Torchlight's original faults still stand, the game lends itself wonderfully to the Xbox 360 controller, and we found ourselves preferring the console edition. If you're looking for a hack 'n' slasher to lose a week's worth of nights to, then sit down - you've found it.
-
Mar 17, 2011Torchlight is a brilliantly crafted RPG that has survived the PC-to-360 porting process incredibly well. The usual awkward console-RPG menu systems are present and correct but the game's charm, depth and sense of fun more than make up for any such issues.
-
Mar 22, 2011Even though this version of Torchlight has its fair share of recurring issues, it's likely to hit the loot hunger spot for Xbox 360 owners. If you're a veteran of the original, though, there's very little here that you haven't seen before.
-
Mar 9, 2011It's not a must-have for those who already own the PC version, but it's absolutely worth a purchase for anyone who missed out the first time around.
-
Mar 24, 2011Rarely will we see an arcade game that can keep you playing for well over double the amount of hours as some retail titles. Rarer still to see an arcade game that can do all of this with such amazing quality and innovation. By offering up one of the best dungeon crawlers since Diablo, you already know that Torchlight is a must have for your arcade library.
-
Mar 17, 2011While multiplayer would've really pushed Torchlight to new heights, the game is no slouch as it stands. Fans of hack-n-slashers and role playing alike will equally come out in droves and make a $15 purchase., and deservedly so.
-
Mar 9, 2011Players get a lot of fun in this Diablo-like game. The only negative thing is that you won't get any multiplayer. But the hack'n'slay action is fun and entertaining.
-
X-ONE Magazine UKApr 25, 2011Not exactly ambitious, but it is expertly made, brilliant fun to play and absolutely fantastic value. [Issue#71, p.100]
-
games(TM)Apr 25, 2011Polished until gleaming. [Issue#108, p.112]
-
Xbox World 360 Magazine UKApr 20, 2011The best fantasy looter on 360 (Sacred II included), but the lack of multiplayer hurts the package. [June 2011, p.118]
-
Apr 5, 2011Runic have created a highly-accessible dungeon crawling game that's highly competitive with the best of the genre.
-
Mar 30, 2011The Xbox-Live Arcade version of Torchlight is definitely a memorable port. Thanks to certain smart adaptations, the game works very well with a controller instead of mouse and keyboard. The only thing that holds back Torchlight is that it can feel a bit limited at times with Torchlight 2 just around the corner, and due to the lack of cooperative modes.
-
Mar 29, 2011The PC-version has already been showered with praise, and most of it applies to the Xbox 360 outing as well. Runic Games have done a fantastic job of adapting the game to the console. The framerate gets choppy when a lot of monsters are on screen, but otherwise Torchlight is a very strong Diablo clone, and definately the best of its kind on Xbox.
-
Mar 29, 2011Torchlight is a long game and a good choice for lovers of role-play action games.
-
Mar 24, 2011Even without a multiplayer option, it is well worth the download… and with Torchlight 2 on the not-too-distant horizon, a good lead-in to what looks to be an excellent sequel.
-
Mar 22, 2011Torchlight got successful on the PC thanks to its action RPG styled gameplay, and the lack of competition in the genre. These strengths remain in the XBLA version. The console controls don't undermine the fun of the formula in any way, but like the PC version, try and play on a higher difficulty level, otherwise it's too easy !
-
Mar 18, 2011Like loot? You'll Like Torchlight. From ex-Blizzard staff, this is kind of a given.
-
Mar 18, 2011Movement feels smoother with the analogue stick, and that inevitably helps when you're crawling your way through hordes of skeletons.
-
Mar 15, 2011Clearly following Diablo's steps, this is a game that makes a virtue of its simplicity. The biggest flaw is the low number of scenarios, something we expect to be fixed on the upcoming Torchlight 2.
-
Mar 14, 2011Torchlight is a relatively cheap game that will keep you entertained for hours to come. Furthermore it's fun to fight against all the enemies and it manages to stay fun, thanks to different surroundings and enemies.
-
Mar 14, 2011Torchlight is a highly recommended game for everyone that enjoys occasional looting and exploring. Even though a co-op mode would've been nice, this is still a lot of game for your hard earned Microsoft points. An insta-buy!
-
Mar 11, 2011Torchlight is a big surprise with a great work in gameplay, graphics and value. Runic triumphs with this port of its debut game because of an addictive proposal and engaging dungeon bash experience.
-
Mar 11, 2011Given Blizzard's determination to make us wait as long as possible for Diablo III, you may as well sink it into a game that eats time for breakfast.
-
Mar 9, 2011Torchlight is a great game created for those players who love to collect items and to slay brainless monsters. The game structure is almost perfect, but the lack of any kind of multiplayer mode and the absence of an interactive camera are quite a problem.
-
Mar 8, 2011Just as the PC version, Torchlight is a fun experience, with a lot of exploring, looting, combating and side-questing. It lacks a multiplayer coop mode, it has some framerate issues and it's rather short by genre's standards, but it's an interesting game overall. Recommended for hardcore action-RPG fans.
-
Mar 4, 2011Enjoyable combat and a great loot system make this hack-and-slash role-playing game hard to put down.
-
Mar 3, 2011At 15 bucks, Torchlight is a steal for lone wolves with a lust for loot.
-
Mar 29, 2011Torchlight is a welcome addition to the XBLA portfolio. It's still a good game with all the good and bad aspects it had a couple of years ago when it came out on Steam.
-
Mar 28, 2011Overall, Torchlight 360 is great if simple fun, especially for folks looking for a bit of Baldur's Gate or Diablo nostalgia on the 360.
-
Mar 25, 2011The console version of Torchlight seems to be a very well made game – as long as you don't expect a deep, nonlinear story and tactical challenges during fights. You get what is best on Xbox: comfortable controls, cool graphics and the opportunity to gain achievements and awards for your avatar. Unfortunately, one element that grants a long life to similar games is missing – lack of multiplayer is Torchlight's biggest flaw.
-
Mar 15, 2011Torchlight is undoubtedly a bold and successful clone of Diablo. Because of graphical glitches and the lack of multiplayer, the game isn't a masterpiece of the genre, but certainly we are looking at a video game fun and addictive at the right point.
-
Mar 9, 2011It's customization, through thousands of equip pieces, the true heart of Torhclight. No coop and basic hack'n'slash combat make the rest just part of the average action RPG. Try before you buy.
-
Apr 17, 2011Well made Diablo clone that does almost everything right except bringing a co-op mode. Gets a little repetitive after a while.
-
Mar 20, 2011Despite originally being a PC game, Torchlight still manages to make the transition to Xbox 360 with pride. The frame rate is a bit rough, but apart from that it shines brightly and is well worth its asking price.
-
Mar 15, 2011Put all the flaws aside though, and you've got a very competent dungeon crawler that has been almost perfectly optimised for a console – and that's something I have to admire the developers for. Just don't expect to be playing this one with your friends.
-
Mar 14, 2011Torchlight is an interesting game that mixes action and RPG elements. It is addictive and entertaining, yet sometimes repetitive, but we expected more from this port, which lacks competitive and cooperative online play.
-
Mar 11, 2011For $15, it's a bit steep for a dungeon crawler, but probably worth demoing on Xbox Live if you are fan of the PC version.
-
Mar 11, 2011Quotation forthcoming.
-
Mar 9, 2011An expertly crafted clone that finally shows consoles owners what Diablo is all about. As long as you don't mind playing alone anyway.
-
Apr 7, 2011Torchlight does very little wrong, and is probably the most streamlined game in the genre. The problem is rather that the genre is getting more and more irrelevant itself. The game lacks DeathSpank's humor and Diablo's mystical universe, and is sadly reduced to a decent single player MMO.
-
Mar 8, 2011Torchlight is an awkward game to assess. On one hand, the gameplay is a major disappointment in that it's worse than Diablo II in every way, but on the other hand it has no major flaws and, even for a hater of easy games like me, gets addicting once the Shadow Vault, an unending postgame dungeon whose enemies are tied to your level, becomes available.
