Procedural generation is obviously the path to true gaming goodness, and these guys bring it.

I think this may be the greatest achievement in western civilization. At least for XBLA games developed by a couple dozen alcoholics. GET IT NOW!

Frankly, this is one the largest content per dollar game you may ever buy on the XBox 360. The story is definitely lacking a bit and there's no characters to attach with but you won't notice because of the highly addicting and simple gameplay formula. Kill loot upgrade kill, and for some people, this isn't their thing. I get that. For me, I played this game for hours straight. Kill loot upgrade kill, and for some people, this isn't their thing. I get that. For me, I played this game for hours straight. The story is anywhere between 8-12 hours (depending on difficulty) and even after the story ends (at around lvl 30) you can keep playing in an infinitely long "shadow vault" dungeon that randomly generates floors AND quests until you reach the perfect lvl 100. After you've done that you play on a different difficulty or another character class altogether. The game just never stops delivering. Graphics are simple but stylish and the art gets the job done. Character progression is complete and satisfying, this game has good content and lots of content. So what are you putting that $15 bucks down on, hours of dungeon crawling epicness or a CoD map pack? That's not even a question! Expand

Very similar feeling to Diablo in regards to hack and slash, loot collecting. User interface very easy to use and understand. Only issues are frame rate once in a while and the ability to move the camera with right thumb stick 360 degrees would have been great with co op added which in itself could be added on a follow up to this or as DLC.

A great game at a great price, you can't go wrong with Torchlight. With lots of gear to pick up, including rare and epic level items, you can really go loot crazy, but at the same time leveling and skills play an integral part in how your character plays the game. Not much replay value, but that really doesn't matter since the game has a lot of levels and takes awhile to complete. A mustA great game at a great price, you can't go wrong with Torchlight. If you love collecting loot and you want more Diablo but with different visuals, then this is the game for you. There is plenty of ways to customize your character's abilities and combat is rewarding; even if repetitive at times.

If you are looking for a well-constructed dungeon-crawler and RPG, the XBLA version of Torchlight is a great bargain (1200 points). It has a few problems but consistently redeems itself -- this is a game made by people who love gaming and it shows!

The game is very fun at first. But a six, because of it having no storyline to follow, no good cutscenes, too few classes and too little variety. Still, a great Diablo-clone. The PC version deserves a seven or an eight, but the Xbox one has too many technical issues...

I've been playing Torchlight on Steam, and it's good, clean, old school gamer fun. Of course it feels like Diablo, it's meant to. Heck, half the Diablo people are in here in one way or another. Love it though and I'll be grabbing it for Xbox as well. I only wish we could do multi-player. Can we?

Well i will copy the text I sent to the customer-support of runic-games. Hello, maybe I am just a single customer but as I read in a lot of forums you did two big mistakes with the xbox version of torchlight. 1.) You totally screwed it up in a technical way. The Xbox can handle games like Gears of War 2 without major framerate issuses, but torchlight cant handle it?

Well i will copy the text I sent to the customer-support of runic-games. Hello,

maybe I am just a single customer but as I read in a lot of forums you did two big mistakes with the xbox version of torchlight.

1.) You totally screwed it up in a technical way. The Xbox can handle games like Gears of War 2 without major framerate issuses, but torchlight cant handle it? FAIL!

2.) Your idea of saving up the multiplayer, especially coop, is strange. In my, and many other games opinion you did that on purpose to ensure that everybody wo thought "man, that is a really good game, but i wish there would have been online coop!" is eager to buy torchlight 2.

Furthermore you kept the console gamers waiting for over 1 year and what did you finally gave them? A sloppy PC conversion with a acceptable UI. Thats all you have to offer for console gamers?

You know what? I'll save the money for Torchlight 2 and spend it on Dungeon Hunter Alliance / Dungeon Siege 3 / Diablo 3. To satisfy my "coop-hunger" I'll play DIABLO 1 on PSX, because this game managed to implement a coop mode!

This game is OK, and good for an arcade game. It has a retro style, which i like, but i just cant see past the issues with the storyline and the gameplay, it just spoils the experience. All in all, i wouldnt spend the money on this, go for an actual game for better experiences.

I feel as if this game plays better on pc. It feels like a generic action game on the console. Just doesn't feel like anything new on the console. I think they should have added some co-op to the game. Torchlight is a decent game, I think 15 bucks for this is a little much, but it is what it is.

This is an excellent dungeon crawler for the XBox 360. Your base of operations is a single town, to keep things easy. The dungeons are randomly generated, so as you create new characters, even through you're working through the same quests, it keeps the game fresh. I play a LOT of WoW, and this game borrows heavily from WoW; that's actually a good thing.

The game has several difficulty levels. I started off with Normal, and while the game was fun, the monsters weren't really challenging. I went seven levels without any real danger of death. Switching it to hard mode was a lot more fun for me.

I do wish this game had co-op multiplayer, both local and online.

Torchlight is available on multiple platforms, including Mac and PC, but I think it works best as a console game. As a serious gamer, frankly, I'd choose some of the more sophisticated dungeon crawlers over this (like Dungeon Siege, where you have a ton of keyboard-controlled options, and can manage a full team of adventurers). On the console, where you are limited to a handheld controller, the simplicity is the beauty of the game.

Lots of fun for 1200 MSP. It can get a little boring if you arent really into the dungeon raiding scene but the amount of loot you get makes you want to keep going. The spells are cool and the amount of items is staggering for an arcade game. Definitely a buy if you were a fan of the Diablo series.

Other than some frame-rate issues, the console version of this PC time-sink is great. I love that I can pick this game up and play for 15 minutes, or all night. The zoom feature on 360 is much smoother than on my laptop. Great port of an excellent game!

Very fun dungeon crawler. Lots of enemies, loot, spells, character customization is all there and very well executed. But no co-op? Really? That blew me away as I thought that was mandatory by now for all dungeon crawling hack and slash types. Good game but if they would have added co-op it would have been great. I guess we will have to wait and see if Torchlight 2 can do it right.

The lack of multiplayer was sorely missed...especially with the wild variety of items to collect. I'm all for replay value, but one could grow bored of the repetition long before he ever completed an item set...even a mediocre one. Still, the same detail stands as a major selling point as well. With so many toys to find and use the game is sometimes hard to put down.

IMHO, far and away the best game in the Hack & Slash genre for non hardcore gamers (those who don't mind the imbalance/xp penalties from death in PoE).
The music creates the same feel the score from Diablo 2. It does a great job of setting the mood.
The game itself is much like D2, 3 skills trees per class and ability to assign points to attributes every level that impacts what gear

The game itself is much like D2, 3 skills trees per class and ability to assign points to attributes every level that impacts what gear you can use and when.

The combat on normal absolutely nails down the fun of mowing through hordes of enemies with your special abilities. Elite difficulty is too much of a kite/grindfest for my tastes but other may enjoy it.

The endgame is well handled imo. You have the choice of starting a NG+ or running maps. Maps have random bonuses/penalties to keep them interesting but they tend to be a little long for my tastes (3-4 different levels in the map).

While I dislike Runic not including respec potions, that's easily fixed by tons of mods.

Speaking of mods, this game has amazing support for them. There are several mods adding new classes and pets. There's stuff to tweak drop rates, skill point gains, add tiered passive skills, and almost anything else you can think of. For people who don't mind a higher mob spawn rate for more champion mobs, I highly recommend the Synergies mod. It changes a lot of the spawn/drop rates of vanilla while adding new gear, classes, focus specific enchanters, and a whole new zone with boss mobs for level 100+ characters.

Guts and mods oh my word.
Word of the wise if you just want to play a game when you get home from work without any tinkering or messing about then do NOT buy Torchlight. I remember trying to connect to a friend at around 09:45pm come 12:30am we had still not connected and gave up playing.

A few people will disagree, however if you want to play multiplayer with one or more friends and you want to try out different mods. It is a joke. Restarting mods and restarting the game are a very common occurrence.
If you want to play single player with mods etc then fine 10/10.

Some funny quests, some boring quests and too much useless loot in my opinion. Sounds strange, but the reason is, that I liked to run around and kill foes, but quickly i ran full of inventory and then it cost me lots of boring time to sort out all the stuff that was equal or worse than my equipped stuff. So in the end I had to sell most of the things, first losing time to compare the loot. And that ist not that easy for the big number of variables that make the value of the gear.

A help is the fact that on mouse over you see an overview of the equivalent you are wearing, and that you can already sort out some part of the loot from highlighting, so you won't even pick it up. But if you do so, you loose the money you could sell it for.
