  1. For those who are jonesing for some classic Ryu-Ken action, I've got to say that overall I think that past ports of similar Street Fighter titles on the Xbox and PS2 were better overall, but few of those have online play, and there probably aren't any players left in those versions' online modes anyway.
  2. It’s an old-school brawler with all the right moves and players despite the awkward 360 controller scheme and the seriously flawed online multiplayer mode. Really, consider this $10 or 800 points well spent.
  3. I had such high hopes for this game but the lag and connection problems makes this a frustrating online experience. On the other hand, I had a great time playing against the computer and people locally.
  4. It's an old game, but it's still fun, and as long as you're not a tournament level player, you'll enjoy the game despite the slight hiccups during online play.
  5. Few games from the early '90s stand up this well today and although there are obviously better fighters out there, an enhanced classic for less than the price of a cinema ticket is a bargain in anyone's book.
  6. Even if you don't like Hyper Fighting, one can justify the purchase just because it will help convince Capcom to bring better stuff, perhaps stuff like Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2, to the Live Arcade service.

The disappointment with Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting, is that despite the delays, despite the additional time they had to get this game out and right, the online mode (quarter match in particular) has some fundamental flaws which stops it from being the quintessential Xbox Live Arcade title.
  8. You will find yourself fighting the controls never really finding a comfort zone. Once you manage to work within the limitations of the controller, you will find the second exception. The online play is a bit laggy and unstable.
  9. Instead of yesterday’s news, it’d be nice to see a high resolution, high definition 2D fighter on XBLA instead of ancient blocky sprites.
  10. Those who mastered the game as a child will be the only people that will get the full experience out of the Xbox Arcade port. Casual players will be instantly turned away by the daunting single-player difficulty and the outrageous lag experienced online.
  11. While this translation of one of the greatest fighting games of all time is mostly intact, its sloppy online mode and bland presentation will leave Street Fighter fans feeling cold.
  12. Fan boys of the original will surely be picking it up, but overall it’s a frustrating experience, and probably not for those new to the Street Fighter series or to retro fighting in general.
  13. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but the online play was very frustrating and the offline play is very difficult even on the lowest levels making it a big challenge for novices to pick up and play.

I was in high school when this came out, so it brought back great memories of mopping up the arcade floor with random punks. Online is probably laggy since it doesn't use GGPO, but since no one plays this anymore I don't know. If you can find at least 1 buddy for couch vs it's a blast. Pure, simple and perfect. Graphics are good for a 1993 fighting game but the gameplay is anything but "hyper". The AI is super-cheap because it input reads, and the combo potential is very limited compared to Street Fighter IV. The sound isn't good either; although Guile's theme does make up for that. I respect this game's simplicity and the limited moves list of characters makes the game less complex; especially given that there are no supers, ultras or EX moves. No meter, pure skill from round one. The screen is too small though, and there isn't an offline versus mode. My main issue with this game isn't the game mechanics, characters or moves. It's the pacing. Very slow, very boring and skill cap is way too low. Throws do too much damage and the animation lasts for way too long. The whole point of simplifying the game by removing meter and giving characters less moves and calling it "Hyper Fighting" is surely to make it fast-paced. But it's painfully slow, and this isn't aided by the overpowered throws and lack of ability to tech them. Avoid this game unless you really need a tried-and-tested 2D fighting game. Full Review »
