the nostalgia is everywhere in this game and i have SO MUCH NOSTALGIA WITH THIS.
if you did not play this game in your childhood, don't buy it unless you want to see how sonic started in 3D or if you're a platformer fan. this game hasn't aged that well but i still love it.

It is still one of the best Sonic games, a pretty good game. This version does not contribute much to previous versions, but it is an option if you have an Xbox.

Beautiful game, in my opinion the best Sonic 3d with Sonic adventure 2. I also love the adventure sections that have a change of pace to the game making it more diverse.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In all the years of Sega trying desperately to pull themselves from the depths of creative hell and back into the hearts of the fans, they made a giant leap to counteract their fall down Mount Fujiama with Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), and Sonic Unleashed; A leap which could have only been made with a game that they had already made both money and a fanbase off of: Sonic Adventure (With DX DLC). A game that got better by including achievements and avatar awards. For those looking to show off their appreciation for a classic, Sega has provided us with a cool shirt and Sonic's shoes. For those of you who bought Sonic 4, the Sonic shoes would complete the outfit. With stunning visuals, a great concept of Sonic, and a soundtrack to die for, Sonic Adventure/ DX is one of the best Arcade games you can buy! And if you don't like the idea of downloading it, or can't fit it on your HDD, Sega released it on a compilation disc: The Dreamcast Collection. This game is a win/win for anybody, gamer or not! However, it is a bit of a deception, as it is the PC version of Sonic Adventure and you have to buy the DX pack separately. Overall though, it is a great deal! Strongly recommended to anyone with the spare cash! Expand

The game is decent and kinda short Sonic The Hedgehog game. Some things can be hard, confusing, and a bit glitchy sometimes but it's alright. For 5 dollars it's a steal.

Sonic Adventure was an amazing game back in 1999 and is still today. Yeah the camera sucks but it sucked back then too but if you can look past that you can get a great game. The graphic look awesome and some people are angry that you can not put it in 16:9 well it not mean't to be in 16:9 its mean't to be 14:6 so it just look stretched if you did that. The controls are great it always goes in the direction you want. The homing attack can get a little weird at times but not to much. Now how does it sound, well it sounds great and all the music and sound effects form Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast are there and they sound great. Now how is this compare to the Dreamcast game. Well I will say right now the Dreamcast version is better less glitches in the Dreamcast version then the Xbox live version in the Xbox live game i have found a lest 6 glitches but its still not as bad as sonic 06. What I would say is it was made for the Dreamcast so it controller better on the Dreamcast so if you have that version and your not the biggest sonic fan then I say stick with the Dreamcast version. Now I want to talk about the story. Its still a great story and if you never play the game before then the story will have you at the edge of your chair well playing this game . Well what I am trying to say is that the story is great like always. I also want to say one more thing about the Xbox live version to the Dreamcast version. Even though I said the Dreamcast version is better that is only for gameplay. In the cutscene in the Dreamcast version there can be things left out like music or animation but there is none of that in the Xbox live version all the music is there and all the animation is there too. So if you want the cutscene the way there mean't to be seen then you should get the Xbox live version or PSN version. Now the most important part the Gameplay, the gameplay is fast and fast well at lest with Sonic and tails and it is great the level are just done so well and I can say the gameplay is more fun then some of the sonic games we get today. With Knuckles you well be collecting parts of the master emerald 3 each level and they are hidden well and it is allot of fun to find. Amy's levels are more of a normal platformer and she plays great and the level are just amazing. Then there is Gama who shots objects in the level and in those levels you are mean't to more get a highscore its almost like an arcade game and it plays really well. Then you have big and he sucks because your fishing in a sonic game what were they thinking when making him oh well at lest he like 3 or 4 levels or something so your done with him quickly but yeah his gameplay sucks. So what I am trying to say is this game is great and if you don't own it you should pick it up for Xbox live or PSN (although I have only play the Xbox live version but I bet they are the same.) Also if you want to play though this game again then here is your chances to play a great game. Awesome game 9/10 :D Expand

Even the last one, where he turns into a wherewolf failed me, just because of that wherewolf part, and those parts took the longest time.

So back to Sonic adventure. Ive got the DX update as well, and i must sai that for me, i allready knew the tough spots of this game, and so it did not take long before i finished the game with Sonic. There where times i thought they should have finetuned the gameplay, but still, to me, they kept true to the dreamcast/gamecube/pc Sonic adventure. For me, it still feels like the same game. So here's some pro, and con's to help out getting this game or not.

    Pro's:

+ Sonic finest adventure is back and hasn't changed for the worce (it could have been terribly emulated, but it's not.)
+ the high(er) resolutions make some sonic levels really shine with less jaggies.
+ If you are like me, and are used to the old voice casting, they did not changed that. Some find this anoying, but i kind of like the humorous voice acting :-D
+ If you don't get the DX extension, it's just 800 MS points. So for a trip down memory lane, it's not even that expensive.

    Con's:

    - Some collours feels altered, i will soon play this game on my dreamcast to see if i'm right about this one.
    - why can't we have a option to make this game widescreen? as if there are not enough widescreen tv's around to make this worth their trouble....
    - DX update should have been given for the 800 MS points you pay for the normal game.
    - If you hated this game on the Dreamcast, there's nothing that makes you change your mind now.

The game is a bargain at 800 ms points. The game is not going to blow you out of your chair but it is full of nostalgic awesomeness. Can't believe these comments about the game not ageing well. It's more than ten years old for gods sake. Quite annoyed that you need to spend another 120 ms points to get the DX version. Bad move SEGA.

Sega also had the nerve to charge 800 MS points for this game, and then release DLC mere hours later to get the 'full' game (DX version) which will set you back another 400 points, totalling 1200 MS points.

Those complaints aside, this is a fun little game with colourful graphics and great sound. Worth a buy. I advise you to give the 'DX' upgrade a miss though - just purchase the main game. The DX upgrade doesn't add enough to warrant another 400 MS points.

Completely disappointing, by all means. Most people would enjoy it for the fact that it carries the nostalgia of both Sonic and the ill-fated remains of the Dreamcast library. The major problem is that the game has aged well by no means. I played the game on the original Dreamcast way back in 2000, and had beaten it in full, and I replayed it again years later in its DX iteration. The gameCompletely disappointing, by all means. The game itself cannot seem to be enjoyable by today's standards. Every character's controls are really bad, especially if you're among the slower ones, and the camera and voice acting are just as repulsive as they were a decade ago. The major, glaring problem though is the price points. The original Dreamcast version may not be available to buy outside of online auction and some shops, but it can also be easily pirated if you're into that. The Gamecube "DX" remake is still available at some Gamestops for 12 dollars, 2 more than the current release. Not only that, but the rereleases now require you to pay ANOTHER 5 dollars for a "DX" upgrade, which only allows you to play as Metal Sonic and unlock a few more emblems to get, yet you still cannot unlock the Game Gear games or link up with GBA, which were both available options in the DX version. Overall, if you really want to play this game, look for older versions, and pass up this pointless waste immediately. Expand

Sonic Adventure was a fantastic game back in 1999, though it really hasn't stood well against the test of time. The camera flies through walls, the clipping is bad, the voice work is terrible- but somehow, it still remains a relatively fun experience.

Sonic's campaign alone is a good four hours long and is an enjoyable, yet shaky ride. The gameplay stands up pretty favourably compared to some more recent Sonic titles, with the original Mega Drive 'pinball-like' Sonic physics feeling right at home here in Adventure. Not to mention, there's plenty of homage to the older games, with references to Angel Island from Sonic & Knuckles and even a flashback of Amy's experiences being hedgehog-napped by Metal Sonic in Sonic CD.

Each character has their own unique style of play, which is both interesting and innovative. Unfortunately though, two characters in-particular let the side down, with both Amy Rose and Big the Cat suddenly throwing everything that made Sonic what he is out of the window, bringing the experience to a complete stand still. Despite this, these characters are completely optional (unless you want to see the 'secret' ending), so you'll be happy to know that you can enjoy playing as the other four characters without having to be punished by being forced to plod around as either of these two.

The level environments are nice, too. You'll go from sunny beaches to dangerous volcanoes and even venture into an ancient, aztec themed world. Adventure Fields eventually become a bit of a chore, and often can leave players feeling lost with no real indication of where to go next. Still, the level that's to follow feels like a suitable reward (through the Sonic campaign, at least) and nearly all are memorable (though we wish to forget the sheer frustration experienced in Sky Deck... we hate Sky Deck.)

So, with all these more positive sided things on board, why a 5? Simply because what you're getting here isn't exactly the Sonic Adventure I, and probably you, remember. The first of SEGA's 'Dreamcast' classics has been slapped onto Xbox Live in the laziest way possible. What we're presented with here is actually 'Sonic Adventure: DX', a remake of the original game released for both Game Cube and Windows PC, without the extra features. SEGA have directly ported the PC version of DX (which is why we're also seeing the very disappointing lack of wide screen support) and have removed the additional 'mission mode.' Why directly port a game and bother to remove the features, you ask? Money.

In typical modern-day SEGA fashion, both the mission mode and unlockable 'Metal Sonic' character have been released alongside the game at an additional 400MS points. It's barely worth half of the full games price, mind you, but there is no other reason for SEGA to remove features that were once present in the original PC version other than to make a quick cash-in. It's typical SEGA, and it's unfortunate (though predictable) to see them celebrating the first release of their 'Dreamcast' classics list by totally ripping people off.

There's still fun to be had here though, with plenty of single player stages to blast through, a hand full mini-games and, of course, the much loved Chao Gardens. If you can get past the glitches, the horrible scripting work and the awful voice acting / script, there's plenty enough content in here to verify a 800MS point purchase. The 400MS point add-on DLC however should have come as part as the original package as it did on the Game Cube and the PC. The only explanation as to why it doesn't here, is money. And in this case, SEGA really does not deserve it.

This game does not age well to say the least. The controls and camera are twitchy, the only characters worth playing are Sonic's, Knuckles's, and Gamma's. The is what you'll expect from a common Sonic game, and that its needless. If you are a veteran sonic fan, then you will still find enjoyment in this game. But with that said though, it's repetitive, it's outdated, it's not worth playing.

The running theme (heh) of the Sonic franchise is going super fast. For a game series about going fast, this game is suuuuuper slow. About 1.5 hours (tops) of gameplay is centered around Sonic, who is the only character who actually moves fast and whose levels are designed around doing so, and even those are super janky. This game is awful.

I also like the voice acting, though Knuckles and Big are pretty lifeless and boring (Seriously, Knuckles always sounds like he's narrating! It's actually kind of funny). As great as these things are, there are a few things that bothered me. The camera is pretty frustrating, it's easy for a character to get caught on walls when running down narrow pathways which breaks your momentum (very annoying). The hub worlds feel like padding and the "unlockables" you get from doing missions are nothing but a bunch of crappy Game Gear games. The real salt to the wound is Big the Cat, quite possibly the most useless waste of animation ever put in a game! His voice sucks, the character sucks, his gameplay (fishing) sucks. He just shouldn't exist at all imo. Amy and Gamma's stages are also pretty dull as well, but their stages don't really last too long. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is really great. I love it a lot. No, I didn't ever have Adventure or even Adventure 2 on a Dreamcast or GameCube (because I never owned those systems), but after learning that they were remastered on XBLA, I had to get them. So no, nostalgia doesn't affect this review.
I loved this game a lot through out my playthroughs. Yes, there's annoying stages and gameplay mechanics (like fishing of all things), but nevertheless, the rest of the game was highly enjoyable.
There are a total of six playable characters, four of them from previous Sonic games, and two created for this game. First off, there's Sonic, of course. His gameplay is what you'd expect, high-speed platforming action. It literally feels like a 2D Sonic game. The level design rewards you for being an explorer, with things like rings and lives. The level design has multiple paths to take just like the old 2D Sonic games. Sonic's stages do feel very fast and exciting. Most of them are great with some annoying ones. Sonic has ten levels. Sonic's story is basically him trying to stop Dr. Eggman from getting the chaos emeralds that he gives to Chaos, a being made of water. If Chaos absorbs an emerald, he evolves. During the events of Sonic's story, you come across the other playable characters. Once you meet them, they're finally unlocked. Tails' story is basically the same as Sonic's because they are together practically the whole time. Tails plays in the same levels as Sonic. In fact, all the characters share the same levels. Tails has five levels. Tails has his same abilities from older games. He flies, but after awhile, he gets tired and will slowly but surely descent. Tails' stages are just as fast as Sonic's, mostly because his levels are him just racing Sonic (in his last stage, you race Eggman). However, Tails can take shortcuts to beat the stages. Knuckles is playable as well. His levels are treasure hunting levels. In his story, Chaos breaks out of the Master Emerald, an object that Knuckles guards that apparently has a water being in it. Now, it's Knuckles' duty to find the many pieces of the Master Emerald that are scattered throughout stages, that's why the stages are treasure hunting stages. Like Tails, Knuckles has five stages. A radar tells Knuckles where the pieces are, and it's way better and helpful than Adventure 2. Next comes Amy in her first playable appearance in a 3D Sonic game. Amy's story is just escaping from one of Eggman's mechs, and that's it. Amy is very slow but has a kinda powerful hammer attack. Amy has only three levels. Amy gets a stage that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles don't get. By the way, forgot to mention that there's eleven stages total, and only Amy, Big, and Gamma get the eleventh one, Hot Shelter. Who's Big and Gamma? The characters created for this game, of course. Big's story is that his frog (Froggy) runs away. Wow, what an epic. However, Eggman wants Froggy because it ate a chaos emerald. Big has four stages. Big's gameplay is... fishing. FISHING!! IN A SONIC GAME!! IT'S GOTTA GO FAST, NOT GO FISHING!!!!!! Anyway, Gamma is last, kinda. Gamma learns that there's more to life than being evil and being bossed around by Eggman, so he wants to kill the other robots Eggman has built so the animals trapped inside may be released and they can live in harmony again. Gamma's levels are shooting levels. There's five of them. And they actually have a time limit.
After all campaigns are beaten, it's time to go super. Chaos has absorbed all the emeralds, and has become Perfect Chaos. All the characters go to the place where Perfect Chaos is and see all the damage he's causing. Tails sees that he used the negative energy of the chaos emeralds (because that's a thing), so Sonic uses their positive energy (okay) and becomes Super Saiyan... I mean Super Sonic. Super Sonic pretty much just dashes into his body and somehow defeats him. A glowing red ball appears and turns into an echidna named Tikal, who thanks Sonic and shows Chaos how happy the Chao race is (I forgot to mention the Chao and Tikal). They're both sealed back inside the Master Emerald. Eggman escapes, with our hero, Sonic, chasing him. The end, I guess.
The styles of gameplay aren't half bad (except fishing). I enjoy Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Gamma. I do not like Amy and especially Big.
The game has emblems you can collect by doing levels and exploring the three hub worlds. There's also mini-games, like flying Tails' plane, the Tornado.
I honestly liked Sonic Adventure. Yes, it hasn't age well (not even in high definition). Yes, I don't like Amy and Big. But it is still fun. The game actually has dlc. The dlc is the DX port from the GameCube. It has other stuff like missions and Metal Sonic as a playable character (from what I heard, he plays just like Sonic). I don't have it, but the main game is still just as fun and entertaining. If you love Sonic, check this out. It wasn't his first 3D game, but the first to get it right.

Amazing levels, an intertwining story with multiple characters, and the introduction of the two best characters in the series, Chaos and Tikal. I forever live in hope that Sega will produce a game even half as good as this one.

As a remake, this is nothing special at all, but as a game, it's great. 4/6 of the gameplay styles are fun, and the ones that aren't are very short. The game controls very well and the soundtrack is excellent.

Tails levels are just basically sonic levels or the final part of Ice cap or the sky chase levels. Amy is cool runaway levels. gamma levels are the mots boring of the all in other words it's too easy. Big levels are cool fishing levels. the story is good. the true final Boss is Bad and too Hard but the other bosses are cool. Sonic adventure is a great game. I hope we get a remake of this game. Sonic Adventure is an utterly amazing game. Some people call it one of the last really good sonic games which we all know is untrue but Sonic Adventure is great but is it the best no let me explain why.

So I'm going to give a basic rundown of the Story basically this game follows the story of 6 characters. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big the Cat, and E-102 (Gamma) and each have their own story. Sonic story is him trying to stop Eggman from taking the Chaos Emeralds to and stop him from causing the Destruction of the City. Tails Story is Similar to Sonic but has a sub story of tails trying to stand up for himself and learn to not be scared. Knuckles is trying to get Angel Island to float back up in the air but the master emeralds the one that lifted up the island, broke. So he has to find the piece of the master emerald. Amy Story is about protecting the bird she found and then also escaping this robot that is following her around for most of her levels. Big the Cat lost his best friend froggy which is literally a frog so Big the Cat has to fish him up for each stage to get his precious froggy back. I will get back to these levels later. E-102 or Gamma
Is Eggman robot he made but I feel if I tell a bit too much about this story it would spoil some of Amy's story.

Now for the gameplay. When talking about Sonic Adventure Gameplay there are a lot of positives and a lot of negatives. Let's stay positive for a bit because I really love this game. Just this game has a lot of flaws. Each character has a very different type of gameplay Sonic you mainly run fast through the stage and try to get to the goal without dying. I really appreciate that they gave the character different play styles and didn't just reskin sonic to look like the character. Also in the sonic levels it feels great to play as Sonic he controls pretty well. For tails gameplay you're always trying to beat sonic to the goal which is pretty easy a lot of the time so you should worry. His is very similar to sonic but with tails he can fly so he can take different routes unlike sonic. For Kunkles it's actually a really fun bit of gameplay basically you got to find the pieces of the master emerald hidden in a lot of the areas in the level it's actually a nice little break from the speed of the Sonic and Tails levels. Unlike something we will be talking about a bit later. Amy levels your escape from one of Eggman's robots. Yet it does feel very slow and not the fun slow like Knuckles but it does have some fun moments. Now the Big the Cat levels….later. The E-102 (Gamma) are actually a nice change of pace instead of the clock slowly building up as you go through the level In the Gamma level time as the game goes down and you have to beat a bunch of enemies in order to keep time up. It is a lot of fun and honestly I have no hate toward his levels but they are over way too soon. Now onto some of the things I hate about this game. You get lost way to easily there where moments where I didn't know where the next mission was because I was searching around for hours just to get it started lucky sonic route didn't do too much of this and gamma didn't have it at all be but every other route has a cause of searching for hours. The bugs are also a small issue when I was playing as tails. I got stuck on the train that led to Station Square and I had to restart from my last save. Amy's level was very boring. Amy was weird to control and the fact a robot was followed everywhere didn't make it easy to solve puzzles in her levels. Although that not the worst part about this game the worst part about this game is the Big the Cat levels aka the FISHING MINI GAME that right a fishing mini game in a sonic game it's sucks I had to look up a guide on how to get froggy on the fish hook and even then it was still hard to do luckily this is one of the route so it's not like it happen twice. Also poor Big gets all the hate from the fans but people didn't realize the true menace is FROGGY. Yeah but I think big the cat is neat! Although I am glad that my nitpicks were fix in SA2

Even with all these nitpicks about this game it is still really good and sometimes the glitches can be really goofy and funny. Not to mention the cutscenes are really bad but like the funny bad. So yeah this game a lot of fun so Open Your Heart and give this game a chance

Sonic Adventure is a game I love, but it definitely has a lot of issues. 2 out of 6 of the gameplay styles are pretty bad (Amy and Big). Tails's stages are too easy and short, and the story has aged as well as milk. But the other half of the game is really good (Sonic, Knuckles, and Gamma), there's a reason these 3 gameplay styles returned for Sonic Adventure 2. Sonic plays beautifully. The game encourages you to manipulate the game's physics in order to go faster. The game's camera can struggle to track the player's movements and can be rather jarring. The level design is great and it's more open than most Sonic games. Tails' story is pretty similar but you get to utilise his flying abilities and race Sonic to end of the stage. While the AI is rather easy to beat and Tails' flight can be overpowered, I still find it enjoyable. His story is quite a bit shorter than Sonic's story though.

Knuckles' stages require you to find shards of the Master Emerald. I think this treasure hunting gameplay is rather enjoyable. The areas are smaller than the latter stages of SA2 and you get to track multiple emeralds at once. Amy offers a survival-horror inspired platformer where you need to reach the end of the stage with a robot called Zero watching your every move. It is alright. And this story is only 3 levels long so if you don't like it, it's easy to overlook.

Gamma offers a platforming shooter game. It's a precursor to Tails' and Eggman's gameplay from SA2. I prefer this game's faster pace in comparison to SA2 as Gamma is faster than the mechs. And onto Big the Cat's story.... I don't know what drunken developer decided to make this segment of the game but it's inoffensive in my opinion as it's like half an hour long with 3 action stages. You have to fish for Big's best friend... a frog.

As for the things specific to this version of the game, I don't like the amount of effort pouring into porting such an iconic game. The game is still in 4:3 and it doesn't look that much sharper than the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions. Also there is a horrible blue border that blocks the edges of the screen. And you have to pay extra money to get the game's upgrades from the GC version.

Overall, Sonic Adventure is worth the low asking price. I just hate the way that it was ported to these HD capable consoles.
