    With fighting games coming back into vogue in such a big way over the past year, anticipation was quite high for a next-gen entry into the Samurai Showdown legacy. Unfortunately, bad design choices, uneven gameplay, and a limited number of gameplay options ruin this title for all but the most hardcore Samurai Showdown fan.

    It is hard not to feel the cheap and dirty motif of the game from top to bottom. There is a severe lack of polish here and it shows. Still if you love fighting games and have been a fan of the series I recommend giving it a rent to see if it grows on you.

    Samurai Showdown Sen isn't the worst game, but since there many other really cool beat 'em ups, it simply can't compete. For example, Super Street Fighter IV has a lot more at stack at nearly the same price.

    This new version of the classic franchise is far from being an interesting experience, appealing to watch, or to a certain extent; fun to play. I could see the die-hard fan having a good time, but for anyone who is looking to get something different (or better) than the most recent fighting game releases such as Tekken 6 and Super Street Fighter IV, I’m not sure it would be a good idea to shed money for this piece of boredom and sourness.

    Despite the improved character roster and so-bad-it's-funny decapitations, Samurai Showdown Sen has very little to offer you except easy Achievement Points.

    Ultimately, Samurai Shodown Sen is a title lacking the polish and depth found in the other brawlers available at this time. Poor controls and odd damage calculations dampen what could have been an entertaining experience, while plain scenery and dated graphics make it a little stale for the eyes.

As a long time veteran of the series, I had hoped to see our heroes make a much better transition into 3D. It is hardly what you would call a button-masher, but neither can you give it credit for being technical, either. The input window is a bit too lenient to feel like you are in precise control of the character, and yet the animation itself lacks any type of fluidity. Perhaps SNK should have abandoned the 3D idea altogether, and given us another 2D fighter, like the rest of their excellent games. I recommend leaving this one alone.… Expand
