Good for being on Xbox 360, but:
If you play this game, don't think that all Quakes are like that. They're all excellent games, so don't take this one as a quake. Slow gameplay (although not as much as games like CoD), there's reload (it's horrible to reload in a fps arena)... and generally, there are some bad points. It's a very good game, for being a Xbox 360 one. I think that, since

It's like it was made for consoles, so, this is good for consoles but (compared to other Quakes) bad for computers.
Honestly, I would give it a 5.8 (good), but I give it, for Xbox, a 6.6, because the gameplay is fits very much it.

I have no problem with a simple mindless shooter on occasion. In fact, I'm re-re-re-playing the crusty old Quake 2 on PC right now with one of the enhanced engines, upgraded textures etc. What I do have a problem with (other than the crap console controls for this sort of game, but what are you gonna do?) is the framerate. First rattle out of the box, this game runs at maybe 20-25 frames per second, and only goes downhill from there. Mind you, this is prior to any combat or much of any action occurs, just getting out of your wrecked dropship and walking around. And that's the other annoying, "non-Quake" thing: the speed at which you travel. It feels like you're just shuffling your feet. I've been a long-time fan of Raven, but this conversion certainly can't be one that they're proud to have their name on. Expand

I thought the game was pretty good. Quake 4 reminded me a little of Halo. The only problem I had was the herky jerky video display when there was a lot of action going on.

A very good game okay its not going to win any awards but it a simple game that you can just throw on and let rip!! Graphically solid, sound is a little crap and A.I is a bit poor and once you finish it you won't want to go through it again!!! So if you like a shooter that is not going to push you but is enjoyable then buy this.

Dispite the next-gen gloss Quake 4 feels like a completely old school experience that would have been more impressive had it been released 5 years ago. Although the graphics shine and the scripted sequences make you feel like your in a sci-fi action movie, the gameplay is inescapably crude and inferior and really doesn't feel like that much of a step up from Quake 2. The game becomes repetitive quickly and even the inclusion of a few straightforward driving sequences can't help the experience from feeling stale. However it is the multiplayer in Quake 4 that really hurts the game the most. This is exactly like Quake 3 and although this would have been acceptable half a decade ago, nowadays we have exquisite multiplayer titles such as Halo 2 and Perfect Dark Zero to play and this just can't compare. Overall Quake 4 is only worth a rent at best, and anyone looking for a decent FPS experience on 360 should opt for Perfect Dark Zero or Call of Duty 2 instead. Expand

Quake 4 is quite a hefty shooter, being fun and entertaining on a different level than with other collosal titles in the genre. The online, currently, is slow. You cannot go too wrong with this decent little shooter. Plus the inclusion of Quake 2, and a few secret goodies is quite a gift. Quake 4 itself is not without its flaws, but if you take the title simply as an enjoyable old school shooter, you will be pleased. the franchise is feeling its age, but you cannot help but be sucked back into that classic first person shooter gameplay style. The game gets a 7 because it's not great, it's still fun and overal, is a good game. It doesn't introduce anything, the graphical hitches were a sad part of it all, the story could've been better, and the ending was heartbreaking, but there is a good game in quake 4, and if you can see it, feel good because this game is underestimated, and is worth being in anyones The game gets a 7 because it's not great, it's still fun and overal, is a good game. Quake 4 is far away from the brilliant times of the first games in series. In fact, it tries a lot to repeat the formula that made Doom 3 a successful game. Anyway, stills a good (generic) shooter that rewards the insistent players with some very good moments. It's a tiring and very repetitive game, a lit big longer than it should be, even if there's a good variation of traditional shooter/horror game, with good storytelling. The graphics in general are ok, the lighting effects are great. The Xbox 360 version got some flaws with FPS drops, anyway, doesn't compromise the gameplay at all. It's not the best shooter in the mid-2000's - it's miles behind Half Life 2, Halo 2, Far Cry and even the own Doom 3, anyway, it's a good effort and a well constructed game, even without the relevance the series had in the past Expand

This game is alright. The multiplayer can be fun and the bonus disc has Quake 2, so that's a...bonus. But overall, it's alright.

  1. While there are certainly flaws in the single player and multiplayer, the game’s fantastic visuals and engaging storyline make it a worthy addition to any Quake fan’s library.
  2. The controls are well done, the sound is very good, the graphics carry the horror and surprise well ... if you have not experienced Quake 4 yet and plan on owning the 360, then this is a game that should be in your library.

There's a lot to like about Quake 4: vivid (and violent) visuals, comfortable controls, and a surprisingly addictive multiplayer mode. And as a cool bonus, Activision even threw in a gorgeously high-definition version of "Quake II." So what more do you want?
