Aside from a few solid challenges where you're bound to spend some extra time, there's nothing to guarantee longevity or indeed any reply value.
-
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands marks Ubisoft’s intended return to an old gameplay formula, mixing platform elements with hack-n-slash fights and a wise sprinkle of puzzles. The idea is good and suggestive too, but some minor shortcomings and – most of all – a very limited longevity have jeopardized the final outcome.
-
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is a fun platform and action game, but nothing more than that. It's a decent HD-reincarnation of The Sands of Time.
-
A step back to the old Prince of Persia trilogy, The Forgotten Sands offers disturbingly few new features for a game in a series that experienced a slight revolution not long ago. Even so, there is something captivating about this latest addition to the franchise. If you are a fan of the older trilogy, it may well be worth the money.
-
Those of you expecting a return to the Prince's former glory may be disappointed, though this is definitely a step in the right direction.
-
Quotation forthcoming.
-
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands feels like a slight step backwards from the ambitious tale told a year and a half ago. While it does return to what made the series so strong to begin with, problems with the game's combat and replay value keep it from being the stuff of legend.
-
Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands is a good game, but it lacks an identity. Ubisoft followed the easiest way to forget the commercial delusion of the last Prince of Persia, going back to the previous trilogy. The result is a huge deja-vu, with some interesting addiction.
-
On one side you've got some brilliantly designed platforming, with Ubisoft able to breathe new life into what could have been quite stale gameplay. Sadly, the combat, of which there is a lot, fails to do anything interesting. It's too basic and as a result dull and repetitive.
-
As a game in the here and now, The Forgotten Sands can feel dated, its hero outshone by glossy new kids on the block like Nathan Drake.
-
Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands has some original play mechanics, a good puzzles, and the best of Sands of Time game: phenomenal platformer levels... but has a combat system too simple and some vague control.
-
Forgotten Sands inherits from the first Ps2 Game of the series a clumsy combat system and a well structured level design. It appears a little bit old, and lacks originality and sense of wonder. Still, it is enjoyable for adventure game lovers.
-
True to its heritage, the combat is the weak point. Upping the enemy numbers to double figures for most battles looks impressive, but the fighting system is still surprisingly ungainly for such an acrobatic warrior.
-
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is in many ways a very unassuming title; it slinked onto the scene with relatively little fanfare and has had few expectations placed on it by gaming fans, many of whom will likely dismiss it as 'just another Prince of Persia' or (at worst) a shoddy movie tie-in.
-
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands has a lot of great puzzle-elements, but when it comes down to the combat, the game fails.
-
As amazing as the free-running portions are (that is, really f...ing amazing), the lackluster combat, the bland story, and the embarrassing length just out-weighs them all.
-
The excellent platforming still remains, but this Prince seems to have lost a little of himself in coming back to his roots.
-
After Prince of Persia got a fresh start in 2008, The Forgotten Sands feels like a giant step backwards for the series.
-
games(TM)The laboured cut-scenes could be replaced by a title card that simply says 'Whatever'. [July 2010, p.116]
-
It's an echo of the past, a reminder of the good and the bad. If you have fond memories of The Sands of Time or The Two Thrones, hold onto them. Go back and play those games. Relish the original's elegance and the third game's improved pacing and combat -- The Forgotten Sands will only remind you that they are better games.
-
It's just disrupted by some tedious combat and shaky presentation that do little to alleviate the familiarity of a Sands of Time "side story".
-
Edge MagazineContinues the series' longstanding struggle with combat mechanics. [July 2010, p.98]
-
What we get here feels like a place-holder, a nostalgic diversion that exists so there's product on the shelves to coincide with the movie, rather than something driven by a flash of inspiration as to where the series could go next.
-
The Forgotten Sands is the very definition of a pretty good Prince of Persia game that doesn't feel like it entirely lives up to the series' vaunted pedigree.
-
Recommended for platform game fans, but it's a shame that Ubi has not improved a bit a dated formula from 2003.
-
The attention spent on level design at least returns to being above average, even though the detail within the environments isn't up to par.
-
Despite good level design and gameplay […], the prince of Persia’s new adventures are just a little rehash.
-
Backwards-looking and unnecessary tie-in/remake which leaves the Prince needing yet another reboot.
