Yet another Lego game where the story takes a back seat to the open world running around doing meaningless stuff so the game isn't over in 2 hours. I remember back when TT actually made Lego games that had stories and focused on them with the extra stuff being just that. I long for those days. Instead we get games like this where the actual movie-specific reference is just for a couple of hours and then you spend the rest of the game on stupid stuff.

Most of side stuff requires several attempts adding to (replay) time. I remember when I could put a 6 yr old in front of a Lego game and they could play for hours. Now a 16 yr would get frustrated in minutes. All the same glitches that have been around in previous games are still here. Wonky cameras, clipping, platforming that is arbitrary, etc.

To make things last longer it is also no longer sufficient to find hidden items and/or talk to the right person. How you have to complete a quest, find an item, talk to a person, collect garbage and then forge so it can be returned. For the love of money why does it have to be this complex. It isn't fun.

Oh how badly TT has fallen with the Lego games. They just spit them out to make money these days. Bring back the original Lego games that actually put emphasis on the movie references and less on the open world stuff. If I want open world I'll play one of the 100s of them floating around. I just want a fun, simple Lego game to distress with.

The game repeats the plot of the original Hobbit (this is clear from the title). When I played this game, I did not even know about the existence of these films. That's why I didn't like the game. Yes, just because of the plot. After a while, I played again. And again, I can say that I did not like this game in terms of plot. I won't say it's great. Why not great? Because you will find beautiful and inspiring gameplay only in the plot. Therefore, it becomes not interesting to "clean" the open world Expand

The LEGO formula may be finally getting a bit stagnant, and the new additions, while cool, may be too little, too late. If the final section had been included at retail, I'm not sure my opinion would have swayed much more in either direction, but it certainly is noticeable in it's omission.

Lego The Hobbit is a handsome game, but it's also proof that the formula Traveller's Tales employs for most of its Lego titles simply doesn't work for everything it adapts.

Yet again TT Games offers a superb title, packed with much content and simply an extremely enjoyable Lego game.
