The interactive game of LEGO The Hobbit allows gamers to play along with their favorite scenes from the films, and follows the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his Company of Dwarves. Bilbo leaves the comforts of the Shire on a journey through Middle-earth to help the Dwarves reclaim their lost Kingdom of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, he is introduced to ravenous Trolls, dangerous Orcs and, of course, Gollum and his precious Ring. Players utilize and combine the Dwarves’ unique abilities to solve a diverse array of Quests.

    LEGO The Hobbit attempts to take what has arguably become one of he most repetitive franchises in modern gaming and make it feel new again, but unfortunately falls short of hitting its mark every step of the way.

    The game is solid compared to the other handheld LEGO games. They made the game from scratch instead of a clunky port.

    The controls are easy to use and the graphics are decent. I played mostly on 2D because the frame rate was dropping in 3D, which is poorly made anyway.

    Like most LEGO games there is a LOT of characters and I think there is 40 levels. I loved the game over of the level when you die; the levels are already short and the puzzle are easy enough, the infinite lives in the other LEGO games made it way too easy, now you have to be more careful on bosses (It is still really easy to read their moves and avoid them). I haven't 100% it right now but I'm pretty sure that just completing story mode is 10h, so getting all characters, bricks, books and mini kits is at least 25h.

    The story is kept short, which is a good thing because there is a lot of content and it avoid getting bored. The cut scenes are nice and the small details are funny when you noticed them. The map is different compared to most LEGO games because you have a trail with dots which are the missions, but it is really entertaining because characters acts and talks while you are moving to another level.

    Overall I think that most Tolkien fan will enjoy this game, but don't buy it thinking it's the same old LEGO games. At 20$ I am glad I made this purchase.    … Expand

A new 'feature' they included is that you restart the entire level when you die, which is especially annoying when I've died 5-6 times from clipping problems near the very end of levels.

    If you like the Hobbit movies, this is a nice replay of both movies, but if you like Lego games, skip this. This is by far the worst Lego game to date. Maybe if they had waited until all 3 movies were out they might have had a chance to give this even the smallest bit of polish.    … Expand
